[Q] Why is there no AOSP/CM love for this phone? - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

I don't have one but would love to own the S7 Edge.
The only reason I don't is because there are no AOSP ROM's available for it and I can't hack TouchWiz with enough xposed mods to deal with it.
I thought the S7 Edge International was rootable and has TWRP?
So why are no dev's giving it any AOSP or even CM love?
I'd rather have AOSP but would even deal with CM if the S7 Edge at least had that.

Why have buggy AOSP CM Roms on a practically flawless screaming fast device??
Stick with Nexus or OP3

AOSP does not equal CM.
And I've run 100% AOSP ROM's on my MotoX Pure for the last year.
Flashing BrokenOS on average once every six weeks (which is a typical release cycle) without ever having any "bugs" or crashes.
CM is another matter and I stay away from it when AOSP is available.
MotoXP > Nexus or OPO, IMO.

Ugh, okay this clears things up for me:

Freakin Samsung.

never
To elaborate, we haven't even gotten CM-based ROMs on the S6 yet, and no one has bothered trying to build MIUI on TouchWiz. So basically, yeah. Slim chances at best. Still waiting on CM12.1 for S6 Flat here lol.

What roms are AOSP and what are CM ?

What roms are really AOSP ? i want those really smooth experience with no random reboots and non stable modifications. Those who are not cm based.
In my experience, the most stables roms are stock Samsung followed by custom ROMs based off stock ROMs.
With AOSP and CM, it really depends on the apps. in that some ROMs are stable with some apps but not others. Kernel versions also play a role in stability.
AOSP is the base, the backbone and Cyanogen is based on AOSP. However this doesn't necessarily mean that both of them are in line for their stability, I mean AOSP is stable as hell obviously, AOSP is how Google wanted Android to be, which you can find on Nexus phones, or Motorola ones, which are almost AOSP (except Motorola's own apps), and Sony phones too, but Samsung, HTC and LG decided to put their own skins.
Now I personally don't like TouchWiz, it's definitely significantly heavier than AOSP, and thus lags time to time, but at the same time its significantly more stable than the Cyanogen ports for Note 3. So if you want real AOSP experience then you will have to opt for Nexus or Motorola or Sony.
Well ... my depends on the hardware, too. Seen my note randomly crashing running stock rom. Got the motherboard exchanged twice which reduces the reboots. The
stagefright update disaster made me switch to cm 12.1 and this is the most stable rom (nightly!) for me so far. So I think there is no such thing as an answer to your question. It really comes down to the hardware in many cases, too. I know loads of 9005 owners who experience crashes on stock rom, me one of them. To me it seems the note 3 is a crashy phone by design. Good luck!

I have the sm-n900w8 and it's been very stable. No random crashes or reboots using stock KK and LP.

Exactly same here. With the OF3 ROM I hit my maximum up time ever, for over 21-22 days, if this is not stability, nothing is.

Which Rom is good for s4 I9505 and without problems!?

Plz guys help to find good Rom for my S4 and without problems
Every rom is great, just try them and read a little in the threads to find the one that fits you
I prefer that you should stick to stock-based Roms because they are more stable than AOSP, MIUI, etc. Every Rom has their sets of issues just as us humans, we are not perfect. We have to overlook acceptable problems such as occasional and minimal lags or delays, but not the significant problems such as wifi connectivity, bluetooth problems, cellular data/signal problem, FCs, quick battery drain, extreme overheating, and etc.
So there is this stock-based rom that I use, called Imperium Rom v.12 by Slim80 http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4/i9505-develop/rom-imperium-ll-v1-0-t3046889 It is the most stable Rom I have ever used as of now and I like to make my S4 committed to it, not commiting adultery with other roms anymore. Don't limit yourself by flashing an AOSP-based rom. The reason is the bugs that come with these AOSP roms and limited features compared to what I have been using now. Perhaps S4 is really meant to stick with its roots, not in the roots of others. So I suggest that you stick with a Touchwiz-based rom because of the premium features that AOSP doesn't have such as the amazing camera features, multi-window, great keyboard, and many more. Let the S4 grow in its roots.
I hope I could have helped you decide.
Note: This will be time-consuming, all of the flashing, organizing, and many other things. This can make us forget and ignore the existing human relationship we have now with families, friend, and the people around us and most importantly , the relationship we have with our Creator. Time is short. So I hope this android development thing will not interfere with the real priorities we have now for it had scrambled mine. So best wishes in Jesus' name.
Dirty Unicorn 9.8 or CM 12.1 SnapShot
For me i prefer Imperium Rom V12... Im also using albe95 note5 rom but still nothing compares with the original modified stockrom.. no lags, no bugs, smooth.. and the coolness whenever i play games.. especially when i play nba2k16, the temperature of my fone never changes..
PhoeniX Rom v11.6
I use PheoniX Rom (v11.6). And I think this is the best rom you can found at this moment for the galaxy s4. I am a flashaholic, so I tried every (TouchWiz) rom I could found here. But always come back to PhoeniX Rom. It is full of features, so that xposed is no more necessary (for me). The Battery life is also very good for our old device and everything is running smooth and fast. I use imperium Kernel and never had any issue with this awesome rom.

its based on Older Build :crying: OF2 thats the only issue.
Touchwiz Based Roms :
[ROM] Albe95 S6 FULL PORT 4.7 [S6/Edge FEATURE PORT]
CM Based ROMS: Dirty Unicorn 9.8 or CM 12.1 SnapShot
But this isn'^t the correct section.
Request Move please.
Albe95 Note 5 port and Imperium 12 are best that i have come upon.

For me i prefer Echoe ROM v5.0 wiht kernel echoe v5.7 ..stable for me
Indeed Imperium is one of the best tw ll based custom roms. But the only thing I don't understand is why Samsung themed lollipop so bright, although we all know that amoled screens have a better battery life with dark pixels. This question really bugs me.

Can Imperium (and Albe for that matter) be made to be dark all the way, ie how 4.4 was?

It's simple: they don't care
Sammy lollipop firmware is way below kk in terms of battery life. Also has more bugs, lag, etc
Edit: I think this thread should be moved into right section...
I found stock to be great but front camera works horrible on all of them. Aosp and cm roms give you better quality images and most likely better battery life too
its either Stock 5.0.1 (which is what i am on) or Imperium rom

You must be high or something.. everyone knows that AOSP based roms have terrible camera apps and horrible image quality.. Samsung camera app is way better.. and this is the only reason I can't stick to AOSP.. besides it gets boring after a while!

Nexus 6 Rom/Kernel poll

Please list -
- which rom and kernel you are using? (could be stock too)
- how often do you update? do you update every month?
I'll get started - I'm using PureNexus from May with ElementalX kernel. I don't plan to update till the next N preview which hopefully should be more stable.
Lite stock rom prerooted. Dev. Danvdh. July 2016.
Kernel 3.40.10
Battery: blacked out apps TBO team; dark layers.
Update: every month; download latest zip of Danvdh.
Flash with Twrp-recovery 3.0.2.0.
Stock rooted now, but between the monthly security updates I'm trying almost every ROM, N included.
The same regarding the kernels.
Minimum SOT 4 hours, maximum 8 hours.
Pure Nexus with its kernel. Layers as dark as night. I upgrade with each rom update. Runs so smooth and stable it's almost boring!
for the past few weeks ive been back to stock. flashed july ota and now currently stock still
Pure nexus rom with elementalX kernel
sent from my nexus 6 in Portland Oregon
BLISSROM, whenever an update comes out.
Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
Pure Nexus and ElementalX. Usually update monthly.
cyosp, my own, which is very close to stock, just a few usability changes. And stock kernel.
I update it monthly to the security updates.
Najoor's preview 4. Elementalx. DaveyAnniliation blackout layers. Boring it's so smooth and stable! Android has never been better.
Sent from my Nexus 6 using XDA-Developers mobile app
I have tried a lot as I post on nearly every thread but Chroma with elemental X is my daily driver that's I've really settled on. The dev for chroma updates the ROM pretty often and is active in the thread. I'm sure pure Nexus dev is very busy with other things but I don't see him as frequently in his thread.
I used to use pure Nexus quite a bit but I prefer chroma's layout vs pure Nexus.
Krexus rom with monthly update
At the moment with it's own stock kernel.
But from time to time I switch to hellscore or blackbird kernel :good:
Chroma with elemental x is the best combination you can have for n6 and sometimes i try also cm13 nightly is very stable for me or AICP with the same kernel

its YOUR best combo.. what i look for it isnt the best combo. remember, what you want/need isnt what i want/need. best is all relative to you, as your best is going to be someone elses worst.

agree a million %, thats why these types of threads get shut down all the time, as they usually turn into a flaming mess of what is a better rom..
for me, i dislike any stockish rom, so I jump around at least once a week; currently using Broken OS and its built in kernel..

these kinds of threads used to really bother me, especially since most didnt realize that "best" is all relative to you, by what you want or need. the thing is, we are all different people, and want or need different things. nowadays, i see that most people do realize that now. so, it makes me that much happier
well, its not so bad in the nexus threads, where people like a little more "diversity" on their phone.
but, ask this in a Samsung thread, or some HTC threads, and its "flame on"!
Official Resurrection Remix 5.7.0 with the stock kernel
Update whenever there is one, usually within a day or two of the update launching.
Stock AOSP MM on my N6 here, rooted and Xposed of course, but I think Elite kernel is but far the best for N6. Insane battery life without a noticeable performance hit.
SkyDragon Graveyard Rom and SkyDragon Kernel is a great combo for me :good::good:

i have a J700T. how hard is it to learn how to port and develop cm.
The main issues that we'll have will most likely be camera and Bluetooth. The exynos processor doesn't seem to jive well with CM.
Believe me, I would like CM as well but unfortunately it will be somewhat buggy and this particular device isn't "bringing tha boys to the yard" as far as development goes. Don't get me wrong, I think this device is pretty awesome and had some high hopes for development but alas, we are stuck with tweaked touchwhiz roms. Cm 14 was even ported but lots of bugs like bluetooth, display, audio, etc.
Not trying to crush any dreams here, just being realistic.
However, once a Nougat touchwhiz rom leaks (should be in a few weeks) a port is possible. A good note 7 port (no bugs) would be awesome.

The Bluetooth is a problem to me I rarely use it. And the camera cant we just find a camera app from the play store that will be capable with the cm based Rom. But I'm not complaining at all I'm just putting my w sense in.
for some, no bluetooth is a big issue. the camera issue is (maybe) easy to workaround because of other camera apps, unless it's the system (not the camera app) that's causing the camera not to work.
