This is probably a simple to answer question, but I have been trying to prevent certain apps from starting and just cannot find a way . . Anyone help . . ?
If you'd have used the search function, you'd have seen my previous reply a few days ago to the last person who started an exact same thread.
SEARCH the market.
S.U.R.F.A.C.E 2.something
you can use autostarts for that. but it's a paid app.

I did a quick search, but I was looking for a way of doing it without going thro the market . .
I also found "Autostarts" - "Startup Manager" and "Autorun killer" . . thanks again anyway . . so I guess there is no way to do it than through another App huh . ?
Do you have problems downloading apps, or do you just prefer not to use one?
S.U.R.F.A.C.E 2.something
I have no issues on downloading apps, I was (am) trying not to have even more apps than I need . . I am trying to extend battery life as much as possible. I am fully rooted with TIB as the most useful addition where I am always experimenting in freezing system apps that are mostly useless to my needs - so far over 25 with no issues. Hence the search for (within) a way to stop at startup . .
Yeah, been looking for the same solution , Autostarts doesn't have all listed. For example, Gun Bros starts some kind of service at startup , but it's not listed. I really wonder why do devs put those kind of services on startup that aren't needed.
I am a total newbie, so please bear with me. I had never heard of rooting a phone until I got the Galaxy S4 i337. I saw that the Golden Eye was good for starters, so that is what I put on my phone. I followed directions to the letter and it worked perfectly!!! So thanks for that. Anyway, now that I have it rooted, I noticed a couple things that don't work. The screen mirroring is one of them. I have a friend with an unrooted S4 Active that can see me on the network (I was sitting right next to him) but when he tried to connect, it failed. He also could mirror his phone to the TV. When I pull up screen mirroring, it says that there are no devices to connect to. I didn't know if that was right with this rom, or maybe a setting I haven't found yet. I also have the active apps widget and Greenify to let me know what apps are running, but when I go into the ram manager and hit clear memory, it tells me anywhere from 20-35 apps were killed, and this is when I am not even using the phone. I can do it again 10 minutes later and it says it still killed a bunch of apps. I thought rooting my phone was supposed to help with that, no? And if not, what would you recommend for an app to help. Maybe a different rom would be better? My concern has been with the battery not lasting very long. Thanks!!!

Goldeneye is a very good rom for beginners & vets alike. I would recommend it to anyone as far as that goes. But to answer your question you would need to install the addons called Samsung crap pack in the addon section in op. He took out those apk's because a lot of people prefer not to have all those features for whatever reasons so he just added a flashable zip in the addons for those that do.
Now as far as apps running in the background you would need apps like greenify or titanium backup to freeze those apps that u don't want running in background. Or if there are apps that you simply don't even want you can just delete them with tb or app called Nobloat in play store. Just an FYI, I would freeze them first for a little while to make sure they don't interfere or cause issues with rom. Also can do the same with the CP zip after install use nobloat to delete extra Samsung apks you don't want or use.
Hope this helps you out man & Great choice for a rom btw, you will be pleased with it

Thanks!!! I didn't know the screen mirroring was a Samsung app since it was still on my phone.
I have Greenify, but it only allows me to hibernate a few apps. I have done that to all of the ones allowed and still get 20-30 apps killed when I hit the clear memory on the other app. I will try the other one you mentioned and see if that works better. Again, thanks!!!! I have been enjoying the Golden Eye so far!

GoldenEye is a GREAT ROM, and yes you need the Samsung Crappack addons for some features to work. I also recommend Titanium Backup Pro; its worth the dough. Below is a full list of services you can safely freeze (originally from UCUAMDL AT&T firmware, but many services are still in Goldeneye), anything Samsung is in the Crappack. Just freeze whatever you dont use.
Great choice again.

ive recently got an S7 edge and im in the process of setting it up as i like it... ive had a galaxy alpha for 2 years and ive got the samsung weather app widget installed. the new samsung weather app doesnt appear to have the animated background like the old one. its just transparant and frankly boring lol.
i tried to install the old app on the s7 (its called AccuweatherPhone2014_s_lmr_HD its the same as the S5 weather app too) but of course that would be too easy. it fails and says "the package conflicts with an existing package by the same name".. i cant uninstall the new version and i cant seem to disable it either.
is there a way to install the old app? i figured that changing the packageID might do it. i tried APKeditor pro and also apk cloner. neither seemed to work. but im no expert with APKs.
any suggestions as to what i can do?
You can try to install the package disabler or the package disabler pro version for samsung devices, and then try to unable the package of the new version of accuwither app and then try to install the old one.
If that's not working you can root your phone and then you will be able to do with it almost anything u want.
Or u can flash a custom ROM and download the app you want
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge using XDA Labs
didnt want to root the phone as i use the sky app at lot and that doesnt work with rooted phones as far as i know.
in the end i tried a few other weather apps.. one was called weather live and that was really good. i liked it enough that i ended up upgrading quite soon after (for a whole 50p lol) and its just as good, maybe slightly better than the other one.. it even displays information in the AOD which the other app didnt do.
I'm sure most, if not all, of you are aware that Verizon and their greed refuses to let us use Samsung Cloud to back up our data because they want us to pay their ridiculous monthly fee for their even more ridiculous app.
But thanks to the Samsung Cloud app from the Beta's, we can access Samsung Cloud in it's entirety.
1. Download and install this Samsung Cloud apk.
2. Install QuickShortcutMaker from the Google Play Store.
3. Open QuickShortcutMaker and under the first tab (Activities), find Samsung Backup And Restore. Click it to open the dropdown menu, click the very first activity, then hit "Try". It will launch Samsung Cloud.
4. To add an icon to the App Drawer to directly access the app, click the 3 dot menu in the upper right corner and simply hit "Add shortcut". After you create the shortcut you can uninstall QuickShortcutMaker.
5. Done!
I already tested and backed up my phone to the cloud but I haven't tried backing up the Gallery or using the Samsung Cloud Drive feature.
Let me know if you guys have any problems or try Gallery backup/Samsung Cloud Drive so I can edit this post.
Also, if the app refuses to install, you may have to do this goofy workaround where you have to toggle Secure Startup on if you have it off or off if you have it on and then reboot your phone. I'm not sure why that works but for installing updated versions of system apps, it gets around whatever blocks it.
I just did it and it worked for me, refused to install, toggle secure startup and after restarting the phone was able to install it, thanks.

There's a bit that still doesn't work, but it's still better than Verizon's garbage.
Just wanted to add that the latest version of Samsung Cloud available on APKMirror (v3.0.00.1) now has working "Sync Settings" as well.
I can confirm its working by just using nova launcher and making a custom gesture to open the an activities then follow your instructions and look for the dashboard.main activity service, then go to settings and check the add shortcut to apps. Then remove gesture go to apps and enjoy samsung cloud backup =D no tricks =D
Confirmed working.. stock S8+ Verizon. Thanks for the info!
when I try to run the 3.0 version it just says it has stopped responding, it doesn't launch.
edit: also tried the 2.9 version and the same issue, it says app keeps stopping to close app when clicking on try - any thoughts on this?
I was able to install the 3.0 version but the Gallery backup doesn't work at all. Crashes instantly and asks to restart the app.
Kinda neat, 15gb storage.. not sure what the need for this is though, with other cloud based stuff around. It will back up Folder/Photos, but yeah the Gallery Backup function is broken.

Did anyone have success using this guide on Verizon Note 8? My attempt to install apk fails. Toggle Secure Startup isn't helping.
My god what a complete fail on Samsung & VZ fighting with each others apps and releasing it to users. Not only do both cloud products suck, the average user ends up paying for it. Terrible practice on Big Red & horrible support by Samsung for allowing no way for a user to access your own cloud data. I ended up hard resetting my phone, installed nova launcher, installed latest beta of Samsung Cloud which did replace no problem after the hard reset (had issues before). I was able to at least check and (even know you can't access) what is on there. I cleared out an old backup but still had gallery photos left. I tried downgrading the gallery up but that didn't work it just put VZ cloud in settings menu, worthless. So for me once you get the beta installed, sign in, use quick shortcut maker, most things don't work the goal here is to clear everything off of it. I had to download the Samsung gallery app which is also terrible from the Windows 10 app store. Manually delete the photos, empty trash, re-checked my phone and it's finally nuked.
Seriously big red & Samsung, get bent. Both your cloud products are awful and let people choose who they want to use. Use google drive or dropbox and disable this garbage. It's all nuked now. Thanks op for the post!
No Joy here either

It did not work for me with my stock Verizon Note 8 and the latest (January 29, 2018) update.
It would be a great asset to be able to use Samsung Cloud so I am hoping someone will dig out an APK that will work with the note 8.
I've tried to no avail as well to install on my note8
Samsung Cloud removed app data backup.
Notes Sync on Verizon
Anyone know how to get Samsung Notes to sync automatically or on a schedule? I have a Verizon Note 8 and Tab S3 and want them in sync. I have to remember to go into the menus and do it manually now.
Thanks,
David
Can't get this to install. Says "The package conflicts with an existing package by the same name"
Yeah it seems like for backup you pretty much need to use Smart Switch. I'm wondering now if we could access our Samsung cloud and upload our backups from PC to give a nice huge Eff Yooo to Verizon for trying to force us to use their absolutely terrible, expensive cloud service

Sign into your Samsung account in the Notes app on both devices. Hit the 3 dot button in the top right corner in the app and the first option is Sync.
I got this to work using the OP's instructions on my Verizon Note 8 with Android 8.0.0 installed. It works perfectly. I've went through every option in the app and have had 0 crashes. I've got the latest app version (3.0.01.15) from Apk Mirror.
Great job OP. I've been trying to get this figured out.
Works on Verizon note 8

Send the screenshot of all the "installed app" you have installed from settings> app & notification > all app
I know it will be small pain but.
It's upto you.

While you were pirating some apps a neighbour also came with it.
Most commonly this issues came on mediatek or spreadtrum chipset, but rarely happen on snapdragon, unless u root ur device. If u r not rooted ur phone then maybe this caused by some apps u r installed, as example on shareit app they add some ads inside to keep their app got benefit from it. U can see on app setting they adding 'draw over other app' option that make ads popping up anywhere. U just uncheck that option so ads wont come out. Also check every apps who have this feature and turn off it all, except for some apps u trust
yes.. i just browse around on app info & app option.. i did just that.. i turn off the 'draw over other app' option.. i think it solve it.. i already reboot the phone and open tried reopen the apps, and no poping ads.. tank @Sevich for sharing.. and it work on rooted phone too
Stop using pirated apps / apps downloaded from dubious sites.

Yup but the OP said 'and it also happen on non rooted zenfone max pro m1.. they have pop out ads when open/run apps', so thats the only way to get rid of that issues for non rooted phone, if it's rooted, just go to system/app or system/priv-app, there u can see the bloatware apps and malware apps exist there, usually they doesn't have app inside folder. Just delete from there then clear dalvik cache. Mine is non rooted one coz doesn't have any bloatware apps. Peace .
If you have a malware app that you can't find, you can consider a factory reset
If the ads still don't go after a factory reset then it's a strong indication that the malware rooted your phone(very rare on modern devices) and installed itself as system app(one way to check is you won't pass safteynet in such a case)
@dipidabelyah are you using any app locker or any cleaner app?

You can troubleshoot (find out the source of ads on your device) with the help of adguard (check attachment) and even block Ads on your device without root.
In addition It will also help you prevent threats on your mobile, and block malicious sites while browsing.
