I bought the P9 Lite a few days ago and I want to unlock bootloader, root, and install the TWRP. Can you tell me a good guide/tutorial to root without the risk to brick my phone?
There are tons of methods to root the phone

I couldn't find a solid answer to this question anywhere. I have a stock axon 7 A2017UV1.0.0B29 build and wanted to root the phone, but also wanted to upgrade to Nougat b15. Would I have better luck rooting first on b29 and then upgrading or should I attempt to root after the upgrade is complete? I'm not really looking to install any custom Rom at the moment and would just like to have a rooted device. Many of the tutorials bundle root in with a custom ROM which is part of the reason why I'm having so much trouble searching for a solution.

Just find a guide and follow it until you have unlocked the bootloader and installed TWRP. That's all you need to have root.
After that you just flash Magisk or supersu
Good afternoon everyone!
I've put myself in quite the pickle here and would love some help. I have a P9 lite that i was trying to flash with the new EMUI and i was a total noob and did not unlock the bootloader before trying to flash (i know it was dumb but its too late now) when trying to flash the stock rom it goes to 95% then gives an error. can anyone plz plz plz help me to rescue this phone
Hi,
What is your model phone (VNS...)
Relax, just follow my guide HERE and you able to install a clean emui rom (or custom)
Just received my V20 US996 from Amazon coming from a Nexus 6p running PureNexus. Been checking out some of the roms but I'm at a loss. I've read so much I think I've confused myself even more. I've read sites outside of XDA that give detailed instructions on how to install twrp / root with no mention at all about the need to unlock the bootloader on us996 but then I read some posts here and it says unlock bootloader and others that just say to install rom you need twrp / root. So...... which is it? Do I really need to unlock the bootloader and if so can it be relocked in case phone has to be sent back to amazon under square-trade warranty?
Thank you in advance for any help in this,
