Spinrite on SM-N910V - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have an unrooted, stock Samsung Note 4 running Android 6.0.1 from Verizon. I would like to run spinrite on the internal storage like I do my laptop. I am having trouble getting it to show up as a mass storage device during PC boot.
I have enabled Developer options in Settings.
I have enabled USB debugging.
I have switched USB Configuration to MTP and PTP in Developer Options.
No matter what I do, it switches back to Charge mode during PC boot. I quickly try to switch it to MTP and PTP but spinrite still doesn't see it. I think that I need a real Mass Storage mode option that I don't have in the USB Connection menu.
I have also tried to dial *#0808#, however Verizon says, "The call cannot be competed as dialed".
Has anyone successfully their note 4 be recognized as just a USB disk like the old days? Or is that just not possible with this one?

[Fixed] USB mounting problem since installing Kies

My Vibrant doesn't connect as a data storage device around the time I started using Kies. My phone is 100% stock beyond some attempts to fix the GPS (which didn't work and returned to stock). I installed Kies to do USB tethering and changed the setting on the phone to ask in which mode I want to connect.
Last week I was having trouble with connecting in Kies mode and tethering. I then noticed that I could only connect to the PC when I selected the phone option for Kies and not as a media player or storage device. I proceeded to uninstall Kies from my PC to see if that fixed the drivers. No go. I tried another PC which has never had Kies on it and also no go.
Here are the symptoms:
1) Plug USB cable to Phone
2) Menu on phone shows: Select Kies, Media Player or Storage
3) Select Storage
4) USB symbol appears and goes through connecting to connected state
Normally at this point the Win7 PC will pop-up with an auto start window asking if you want to open the storage device or transfer photos. In my case nothing appears. I also check My Computer and the phone is not mounted it doesn't appear later. I suspect a phone issue. Is there a way to fix this without doing a factory reset? Reboot doesn't change anything.
Anyone know a fix for this problem?
Make sure to use these drivers

Stupid question, but are you pressing "mount" on your phone when your in USB storage mode?
note to self: read OP *before* replying
If it's still set on Ask on Selection try changing it to Mass Storage. I recall reading something that said Ask on Selection doesn't work right. I just toggle it between Mass Storage and Kies manually.

[Q] mtp vs ptp

Please help if you can
My first 32gb Nexus 7 had no problems showing up as an mtp device on windows 7.
Am running a rooted 4.1.2 and all is well with mtp as well as adb, toolkits, etc.
I purchased one more as a gift, and that one can only be set to ptp in the internal storage settings.
If I try to set it to mtp, it takes, but does not show up in windows or in adb.
The only way to see it or use adb or a toolkit on it, is to set it to ptp which shows up as a camera with read only permissions.
Both tablets are using the same rom etc.
Have tried this on 2 PC's (win 7 as well as xp)
Any Ideas?
Thanks
On my (rooted) Stock 4.2.1 tablet, MTP mode only seems to show up if ADB Debugging is enabled.
Sort of odd; PTP will work whether or not ADB Debugging is turned on, but MTP only shows up when ADB debugging is also enabled.
If you have not enabled "Developer Options" on the tablet, go to
Settings->About tablet
and tap on the last entry ("Build number") 6 or 7 times in succession. This will allow the following menu item to appear under settings:
Settings-> {} Developer options
You can enable ADB debugging from there.
The PTP/MTP toggle control is at
Settings -> Storage -> Menu (top RH corner) -> USB Computer connection
good luck

Thanks, but I guess I was not very clear.
ADB Debugging is turned on but only works in PTP mode.
MTP does not work at all, even though it's checked.

Even after reading this and your 1st post, I am still a little uncertain.
I *think* you are saying that you want to get MTP working on the second unit. And I *think* you are also saying that (additionally) ADB only seems to work when you have PTP mode selected.
Reading between the lines - are you testing things with the same computer for both tablets? (Or, another way to put that, if the answer to this previous question is no, do you see any "Unknown Device" messages in the Device Manager when you toggle things around?)
I fooled around with mine not more than 30 minutes ago. Leaving it plugged into the PC the entire time (Win 7 Pro x64), I could toggle USB Debugging on/off and back and forth between PTP/MTP. Although I didn't actually try a live ADB session in both MTP/PTP modes, the file browser thing would pop up for PTP mode no matter what I had ADB debugging set to, and for MTP mode that would only happen if I had ADB debugging enabled. At no time did I see any unrecognized devices in the Device Manager.
And I think that what I just said above doesn't help you.... arghh.

First of all thanks for the interest.
Bottom line is as follows.
MTP mode does not work period.
However....
when I boot into recovery, (TWRP) the pc sees the usb connection, and I can use adb commands.
So it leads me to conclude that there is something off in the System files. But (and it's driving me nuts)
they are a clone of the first (MTP functioning) Nexus 7.
Thanks again
@OP
You can uninstall the drivers(all of the n7 drivers), then unplug, then replug it in, then let it install its drivers again. This solved the mtp issues other users had.

Yu Yureka: Not Recognizing In PC Though Enabling The As MTP- Windows 8.1-32 bit- MTP

YU YUREKA- NOT RECOGNISING IN PC THOUGH ENABLING THE AS MTP- WINDOWS 8.1-32 BIT- MTP not recognising. I have downloaded and updated all drivers but still not working. pc is not recognising my phone. i have done all the things adb interface kindly help friends
which rom?
try enabling developer options and untick usb debugging , this might help
Since many guys are not able to connect their yureka phone to PC so for them this thread might be helpful. I was also facing the same problem, even USB computer connection setting was not popping up. So following are the steps to resolve that problem.
1. Go to Settings -> About Phone -> Tap several times on Build Number to enable developer Options if you haven't enabled it yet.
2. Now You can see one setting titled "{ } Developer options" under Settings Menu. Tap on developer options and enable "Android Debugging".
3. Now connect your phone to PC via USB cable. Now You will see that your phone is successfully connected for debugging. Now without disconnection your phone from PC, go to settings->Storage->Menu (Three vertical Dots at top right corner of the screen). Now click on "USB computer connection", now the usb setting pop up will come. Now enable Media Device (MTP) checkbox.
4. Now you are ready to access your internal and external sd cards of your phone. Enjoy

Internal storage does not show when I connect phone to computer

I have the Motorola drivers already installed and USB debugging ON. But when I connect the phone to the computer the internal storage does not show on the computer. I have to go back to the Developer Options switch the USB config from MTP to PTP and back to MTP to see the internal storage. Just an annoying extra step.
Is there a permanent fix to this? The phone is rooted.
ROM?
Your settings in Developer Options are not relevant. When you connect it to the PC, pull down the notification shade and find the entry that says USB Charging and tap it, then select MTP mode, it should appear in My Computer after that if it doesn't open automatically.
