Any way to unlock bootloader on B27, or go back to B20 from B27? I've scoured the forums and Google and can't find any info. Thanks.
Use tenfar's tool to reboot into edl mode (the instructions are in the thread) and then flash twrp. Then download DrakenFX's BootloaderUnlock.zip and flash in TWRP. You should then be able unlock with 'fastboot OEM unlock'
Bootloader Unlock zip http://forum.xda-developers.com/axon-7/how-to/guide-how-to-unlock-bootloader-stay-t3461165/page17
But it says in all caps on the first page of the linked thread that this method is not recommended for B27.

I did it on rooted B27. Before I flashed the bootloader unlock file I used TWRP to make a system image backup. Then I flashed his file, went to bootloader, unlocked, went back to TWRP and restored the system image I made. My bootloader screen shows it is unlocked and my B27 works perfectly. I could be the lone person who made it work but it did work for me.
Seems as though DrakenFX took his file down for the bootloader unlock - gotta wait this one out

Oh well. Thanks for the info though.
I'll be updating My Thread in a few with new files....took it down for the sole reason of been base on B20 and this time will be individual files instead of a whole.

Thanks everyone.
There are quite a few tutorials on this, i think there is one here also (sorry cant post links), otherwise there is on the official forum on Oneplus website. IF you need video tutorial search for TheUnlockr on YT they posted a tutorial yesterday. Best of luck.

Of course, after you have flashed stock OxygenOS in TWRP, you wipe data/cache and click reboot system. TWRP ask you to swipe to keep TWRP or you click on Not Disable. Just click on it and the stock recovery is back.
For the bootloader, start the phone on fastboot mode (VOL UP+POWER) and type "fastboot oem lock" in a terminal window.

Hi. Are you able to successfully relock your bootloader? Because I've read some people who relocked the bootloader just bricked the device.
Same situation, though in my case, Im returning the device. Does anybody know if I even have to relock the bootloader before I return it? Its unlocked and rooted with official twrp recovery.
From what I have read so far, relocking the bootloader will brick the device if one does not restore the stock recovery first. But am not 100% sure this is right. Also, I saw a few people posting the stock recovery, but its unclear what version of the device the recovery is for. If Im not mistaken, there are three versions of the hardware, Chinese, Europe (and India) and US. Is it okay to flash a stock recovery from a different region? If not, is there any other way to go back to stock recovery before bootloader relock?
UPDATE: Scratch that, I just had a chat with OnePlus Support and was told that when returning a device to seller, there is no need to unroot and relock the bootloader. If anything, trying to do so might brick the device and kill the warranty, but unlocked and rooted, warranty still applies, and its perfectly fine to return as is.
Hi all,
I'd been using my rooted Nexus 6P on stock ROM+kernel. Unfortunately, I locked the bootloader after installing TWRP and installing SuperSU. I know, it was a huge mistake but it happened.
Yesterday I wanted to unroot and factory reset the phone. I forgot that my bootloader was locked so I didn't flick that "enable oem unlocking" button. I tried "flash-all" directly on bootloader. Obviously it didn't work and after reboot it got stuck on Google screen. I waited for a while but nothing happened. I wiped system, vendor, cache... etc on TWRP upon a tutorial in this forum with the intention to flash stock ROM but again : my bootloader was locked.
Now, I can still use TWRP and push files through adb but cannot use any fastboot commands. I get this error:
Code:
FAILED (remote: device is locked. Cannot flash images)
I tried installing the whole "image-angler-mdb08l" on TWRP but I get this error:
Code:

Full SELinux support is present.
MTP Enabled

Is there any way to flash stock ROM with TWRP or should I try flashing a custom ROM and hoping to boot so I can enable that troublesome OEM unlock switch?
Compared to similar situations in 6P forum, I have the advantage of working adb and TWRP but I don't know if they even make a difference. Thanks for sparing time to read and your help.
You cannot flash factory image with TWRP. Download any custom ROM, flash it with TWRP. Let it boot and enable unlock in Developer Options.

You restored my faith in saving this phone. Is there any custom ROM in particular that won't mess with the recovery partition? It seems that if I loose TWRP, I have nothing to hold on to.

Your guide is amazing and helped a lot.
I had been using N5 with locked bootloader and never encountered any problem but when I switched to 6P I read some articles explaining how dangerous leaving the bootloader unlocked is, so I locked it. Obviously, it was a mistake. I'm glad I didn't have to RMA.

There is risk in involved in having an unlocked bootloader, but as long as you take care of your phone and don't let it fall into the wrong hands you'll be perfectly fine. To say it's dangerous would be a pretty big overstatement.

Hi,
I've just got a new ZE551KL (z00td) with a locked bootloader and no root. Since the phone have the latest android 6.0.1 build I have difficulty to root it and unlock the bootloader. I did many research and I think it's really confusing. It seem to root my phone I need an unlocked bootloader but to unlock it I have to root my phone. The last interesting thing I've found for my phone is to flash a pre-rooted system.img & boot.img ( http://www.asus.com/zentalk/thread-80274-1-1.html ) but I also get stuck here since the guide tell me to flash both and I can only find the system.img.
I would like to know if there's any guide to root & unlock my bootloader on my ZE551KL. Thanks a lot!
It's a pain, but you may have to roll back to an earlier version of the firmware...back to lollipop. There are instructions in one of the threads on how to do that. I was able to unlock before the marshmallow update with the official unlock utility from Asus. Once you are unlocked, the easiest way to root is just to either boot twrp.img (previously downloaded and extracted to the adb folderon your computer) using fastboot (lots of threads here with instructions, too) and install supersu.zip. Or if you want to install twrp as your recovery, you can flash it from fastboot, then flash the zip of supersu. If you need more help, I am no expert by any means, but I have done this with my own ze551kl and might be able to give you some more hints.
Personally I would avoid the prerooted images as I had a lot of trouble with them and nearly bricked my phone by trying them out.
Thanks a lot for your reply! That's what I'm trying right now. I'm rolling back to lollipop from an official rom file from asus website. So far, I tried to flash it with stock recovery but it said that I cannot install a older version on top of a newer one. I did an downgrade of the recovery and now I'm waiting for the flash.

Well it seem that I cannot downgrade, the latest recovery don't want to install a lower version and when I try to get a older stock recovery I still cannot downgrade since it get stuck at verifying image update package.
Also I've noticed that my version is 21.40.1220.1698 and so far I can't find anything related to this version for rooting or unlocking bootloader. Even the official firmware on asus website for the ZE551KL is older than this version and I couldn't flash it. I had to get it from https://asus.kremowka.xyz/categories/show/2 because I've soft bricked my device. I'm still trying to find a solution...

I would NOT use this stock image for ze551kl. There is one for the 601 and the 550 but not 551kl. I will find the thread with the first stock recovery posted that I used and post the link in a while. Give me a chance to find it. I would roll back to it, then upgrade to the stock firmware listed in the unlocker notes. Once it's unlocked, you can go to the last lollipop before marshmallow and flash it. I would then factory reset, then flash marshmallow. After you have it working, then flash twrp (or just boot it in adb) as I said above and flash supersu.
I will warn you that a lot of people have had trouble unlocking and this might not work to unlock.

Me too the first time I tried to unlock my bootloader in CM13 it didn't worked. I followed the guide and I did this :
Phone connected to the computer with USB debug and using ADB :
Code:
adb shell
su
Then I followed the backup procedure and I did the magic command to unlock it :
Code:
echo -ne "\x01" | dd obs=1 count=1 seek=16 of=/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/devinfo
After I rebooted in fastboot so see if my device was unlocked but no it was still lock. I did two adb reboot with these command :
Code:
fastboot oem adb_enable
fastboot oem adb_enable
You have to do these twice.
After this my bootloader was still locked but I did a normal reboot and tried the magic command and voila! Bootloader unlocked.

The video is for the 550 but the process is the same for the 551kl (zootd). I downloaded the stock firmware at the bottom of the page on the Asus support page https://www.asus.com/support/Download/39/1/0/23/SZCx58yhB5Jst0yI/32/ , extracted it, grabbed the boot.IMG from there and put it on my memory card along with the stock recovery from the link above (renamed it recovery.img) and the full firmware (drag the original, leave it zipped). Then I did as the video says and wiped in twrp, flashed the boot and recovery, wiped cache, then flashed the firmware. It took awhile for the process to complete. Hope this helps.

So, to recap. If you are at the latest update, and have never previously unlocked bootloader or rooted your phone. The ASUS provided unlock tool won't work on the latest update. With it locked you can't install custom recovery or downgrade the firmware to an older version so that you can unlock it. Catch 22. Screwed until ASUS releases an update to their unlock tool or someone figures something else out. Or am I missing something? Cause I've been trying to do something with my kids phone for two days now and no luck here doing anything. Bout 8 million guides and files around the net and none of em seem to do squat in my situation. Any comments? Let's hear em.

Hello everyone. I have some questions. First, to install an ota do we have to lock our bootloaders fully to install the update or do we need to restore a completely stock backup with the stock boot/recovery and does anyone know if the bl lock img we backed up in the unofficial unlock method is device specific because my computer crashed and I lost the file before I could back it up to my Google Drive.

There is no "utility", not one that anyone recommends, but you can flash the factory image with fastboot. There are a dozen tutorials, once is in my signature.
As far as relocking the bootloader, almost impossible unless the last time you where stock was prior to the middle of the year last year, you can't lock the bootloader if you downgrade and we do not have the latest images (they are a version or 2 behind)... Not much point in relocking the bootloader anyway, you gain virtually nothing.
