Just bought used, what problems should I look for? - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
Just received a used silver 128gb us model, and have a few days to return it, if I don't like it. Are there any common hardware problems I should look for to make sure I didn't get a lemon?
Thanks!
Steve

Nope, stellar device. Most problems people have experienced have come from some TWRP versions with bugs and the usual XDA 'I can't bother reading, don't understand what I'm doing but went ahead and flashed something and now ...'

Great phone. No issues. I have 128GB Graphite.

Congrats! U should change the title to "what cool things should I look for"?

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Working great so far!

The biggest issue has always been the screen discoloration.

Never buy used. You won't have warranty and imagine all the germs from the previous owners and how they may have treated the device

To late!! They already bought them.. The risk is usually worth it if you cover your a**

I got a 128gb model from Amazon warehouse deals for just under $300 dollars, that based on hauwei's website is under warranty until 09/2017. It appears to be nearly completely unused. Probably someone bought it, decided it was too big and returned it.
It's my first used phone, pretty happy so far. That said, I understand your concerns, but "never" is a bit too strong I think. The Amazon warehouse deals has normal Amazon return policy, so I thought the risk of getting a dirty beat up phone was worth it.

should i trade?

I currently have the HTC One m7 on tmobile with a completely blown speaker on the top so both external sound and call sounds are ruined. I unlocked the boot loader and actually dropped it one time so there is a tiny bit of damage on the bezel, so i assume neither t mobile or htc will honor any kind of warranty. I put it up on craigslist and a guy is offering to trade me for a mint condition nexus 4 with a few cases. Should i do it?

Well, buying a speaker replacement is not that expensive. I will try to fix it myself first. If you sell it after fixing it you can ask for more than 450$+ for it. The nexus 4 in mint conditions would be valued for around 280$ in mint conditions for the 16gb version.
Edit: forgot your HTC isn't unlocked. Then selling prices go down considerably. After owning nexus phones for some time I completely forgot about sim locked devices.

Newegg - $279

Try the latest build of CM, trust me. It's better than a GPE ROM.
It's really smooth and battery life are great.

Personally, I have been ordering items from Newegg for years now. I have never had a problem with them. Plus usually get quick shipping as a number of items come out of NJ, so I usually get items within a day or two. So far, I have never had to return an item so I can speak to how easy or not they are to deal with in that department. But again, they are my first go to company when ordering tech items.
Forgot to mention, this is where I picked up mine as well. Note, you may receive an unsealed box, however that appears to be how majority of the units have been shipped. I personally observed the same thing with the units at Best Buy. All the units they had in the cage were unsealed as well.

When will there be a stable CM ROM version for this tablet?
Yesterday CM11 M2 (Milestone2) was released - it should be stable enough to use it as your daily ROM
Well considering that LG manufactures the phone and ships it with software installed already... LG gets access to the code. They have to have the software ahead of time to make sure it runs on the hardware.

How much can I get for my N4?

I upgraded to the OPO near the end of October and my Nexus 4 16GB is just sitting around and not in use.
This is aimed more at UK users.
It is in excellent pristine condition (no scratches front or back as they have screen protectors) and I have included loads of accessories including cases and spare screen protectors.
I have advertised it on a local selling page for £115 and gather some interest. I am wondering if you guys think this is an acceptable price?
I have taken a peek on eBay and seen one going for £150 and the bid hasn't ended. But that is the only exception I can't find others.
Should I expect more for the phone? Or should I sell it at this price?
Cheers.

Thanks mate.
I've had a look again myself and that's what I'm seeing too. I have a buyer lined up for tomorrow for £115.
Should I just go ahead and pull the trigger? I will miss the phone had some fond memories with it, but it doesn't have much use now.

Personally, I think you'll get nostalgic and regret selling it. Use it as a test mule for ROMs for your OnePlus One, since most ROMs available for for both. And it never hurts to have a back-up phone. Or something smaller when you don't want so large a phone (is that a OnePlus One in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?).
Sell it if you need the cash, I guess, but unless you're short on January's rent, my advice is to hang on to your Nexus 4.
I've kept so many handsets, just in case, then regretted it later when they never got touched, but it's your call mate. If you have a buyer lined up, I'd got go for it.

Just got the Nexus 6p, anyone choose this over the Moto X Pure?

So I had a s7 edge which was lagging bad (came from the Moto G 3rd generation) and I just bought the Nexus 6p from bestbuy and was wondering if anyone took back the 6p for the Moto x pure or took back the pure to get the 6p. Please help me understand my purchase.

I chose the Nexus over the Moto. Reasons:
1. Development.
2. Updates.
3. Ease in unlocking/rooting/modifying.
This is getting weird. Like the weather, it seems.
Now we must justify the choices of others.
As soon as the Moto Z Force comes to Britain, I will be swapping my beloved 6p for it

Is it possible that it's just weird to you? As I've been browsing the forum it seems like you jump in as soon as someone talks bad about this phone. Weird indeed.
Well guys I had the pure and it just seemed....washed out. But that was back when it was still on lollipop. I went from a G5 that ended up bricking itself after 1 day, to trading it for a v10 (I paid $300 cash for the g5 brand new at&t) and got $50 cash on top with v10 trade. The v10 had this weird white spot and a burn in type effect and I asked to return it to my guy for a s7 edge with cash on my end. So I gave him $100 and the v10 and got the s7 edge brand new. Typing on it was a b**** and it lagged to open the app drawer and I just hated how delayed everything was. So I sold the s7 edge for $500 and was torn between the Nexus 6p (never had one) or the Moto x. The local bestbuy had both phones but only the Moto x was on display. It seemed dim but it looked OK. The Nexus 6p was Google blocked so I was unable to test it. I read everywhere people pick the Moto x pure and I just got the Nexus 6p and it looks great.

It's nothing personal, I'm just fed up with the constant whining about irrelevant stuff. Just move on! Buy another phone!
i been using iphone 6s plus for about 4 months coming from an s6 and i love the iphone its a nice phone just boring lol anyway i ordered a 6p and its coming today! so im just excited to be here!
I switched from the Moto x pure. The nexus is so much faster, less awkward to hold, and flat back is great! Tempered screen protectors actually fit,the 6p feels much lighter weight, and that gold is gorgeous. I do miss the Moto speakers and expandable storage, but I wouldn't go back.
Has anyone ordered or is considering ordering a OnePlus 3? I just did, I figured what the hell. 15 day no questions asked return policy and they pay shipping back. I also didn't get charged any tax. $399 out the door.
Other than a 1080p screen, it has monster specs. I guess the phone junkie part of me isn't gone yet lol.
I figure I will simply return it if I'm not feeling it. Anyone else?

That would be the exception to the rule, especially concerning the One. But if you're not worried I guess it's full steam ahead!

I've gone back three pages and didn't see another thread on this...I'm sure they exist but who wants to dig?
Anyway, I've owned two of these devices and had issues with both. The first one at launch was the plain aluminum, which I sent back because I wasn't happy with the feel. It felt "hollow" for lack of a better word. I don't know how to explain it; coming from the Nexus 6, I expected this solid aluminum beast like the HTC M7 when it came out.
The second one, a couple of months later, was the black, which had the weird pinkish screen hue going on. On top of that, when I bought a couple of different cases, the removal of said cases caused the phone to tweak and bend. But not bend as in bend test videos, rather if you took one hand and grabbed the top, other hand grabbed the bottom, and twisted it (top twist left and bottom twist right). My phone didn't sit flat on a table after that, so I returned it.
I've read around that some of the most recently manufactured units have a fixed screen, so I'm thinking about giving this a third try. I've since moved on to an iPhone 6s+, but still have my Nexus 5, 6 and Galaxy S6 Edge+.

I have a thread created here that is similar, OP.
I want this device as well, but instead of posing a question "Do I ..." I posed the question "Would YOU buy this phone again tomorrow"
The question really isn't whether there are good deals out there for this device, it's whether or not a year into this device people are still happy with it, and on XDA that's a hard thing to get a yes on..
There were some things that have come up with the best buy deal... For instance it's my understanding that if you buy from Best Buy you will only have Huawei's warranty and not Google's... Might make you look elsewhere?
Anyways... Good luck. Ill be picking mine up this week somewhere

I bought a refurb for $316 from BB. Arrived in like new condition. I would think twice about paying $399 for this. The only reason I purchased the 6p because I will be travelling overseas and need a new phone. My 2013 Moto X is aging and very frustrating to use. If you are in no hurry, wait.

Yeah... True...
I have a V10 that is not going away. I really am picking this phone up to satisfy my flashing needs, plus it's a nexus phone!!!
It will probably be something I use as a daily driver at some point... Maybe... I have 2 batteries for my V10, an external charger for the spare, and a 200gb SD card.. I can't see me choosing the 6P over the V10 to keep with me on the go, or with my sim in it ... That may change...
You like the refurb? I thought about buying the refurb... Don't want to get screwed out of the Google warranty...

I bought mine @ Amazon/PrimeDay for $370/64gb plus tax with Prime free same day shipping, so keep checking Amazon website.
I sold mine S7 Edge, then bought HTC 10 which was a disaster (battery life literally was going down 4-5% when idle) and decided to use vanilla android. i see no difference in day to day use/look & feel compared to my previous phones

For me, the most important difference that I like is that Google's phones are updating more frequently (monthly now) than others. Official Nougat is just around the corner for Nexus phones but others have to wait!!!
Just picked up a Gold 64G for $350 privately. Good deal I thought.
BUY....no WAIT....no BUY.....no WAIT.....I'm not sure....what was the question again?
I just picked mine up from Best Buy today. Love it, I'm going for a marriage license.
