Unable to download any file - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello guys,
I have problem, can't download any file from anywhere (chrome, gmail app, etc). Maybe there is some problem with writing the file to internal storage? I have Android 7.0, NRD90T. Only difference compared to stock is TWRP installed and bootloader unlocked.
Is there any way to fix this without formating/wiping and reinstalling ROM? Thanks a lot

Backup your Download folder and then delete it.

Sometimes I have issues with chrome downloading, usually from switching roms or backups. What I do is go into app section from settings and clear data. What that usually does is prompts me to update permissions and that will fix my issue. Might be the same with gmail.

[Q] snapchat won't receive or record videos

Since upgrading to 4.3, snapchat has not been able to load videos. it just keeps refreshing at "tap to load" i also noticed that when attempting to record video, the screen freezes until you lift your finger, then snapchat treats it like a picture.. so i cannot record or send videos either.
anyone else encounter this? fyi, i also installed the moto x camera and am using the banks gapps with photosphere add on. this problem is persistent in two different jss 4.3 aosp roms. i tried clearing app data, uninstalling, reinstall, no change.
titanium backup snapchat
im going to bump this issue because i have some thoughts on what might be the issue..
titanium restore.. there was an incompatibility with 4.3 when 4.3 was released. of course i had flashed 4.3 prior to titanium app update and used it to restore snapchat. this is when the no video problem started.
my hypothesis is this.. snapchat needs to store your videos locally on the phone before viewing, then deletes it after viewing. do you think that when titanium restored the app, it restored it with incorrect internal storage mapping? if snapchat can't access internal storage, that would explain why it cant load or record videos.
now, ive uninstalled and reinstalled snapchat before with no luck.. might that be because snapchat leaves bits and pieces of itself in the phone therefore never really has a fresh install?
if this is the case, how can i go about hunting down every last bit of snapchat?

I'm able to view videos fine, but I'm having the same problem recording videos. One thing I've noticed, if I flash a new rom [complete wipe] I can record videos fine for a few hours, but after that it starts acting up again [recording, but then only saving the first frame and sending only a picture.]
Also, I should note I'm on a Galaxy S3, noticed this issue on Cyanogenmod [4.2+] and ParanoidAndroid [4.2+], haven't tried stock. I'll reply here if I figure it out, let me know if you have any results too!

I did find a solution. I uninstalled Snapchat then went into twrp recovery and deleted the folder associated with it located at data/media/android/data/*snapchat*
Reboot and reinstall Snapchat. That folder will be recreated... Correctly.. With what I believe to be the right permissions.
If you want to try something else first try the app "fix permissions" and run it on Snapchat. Maybe that will fix the permissions of the folder.
Lastly there is a zip you can flash that fixes all permissions on your internal storage to proactively fix this issue for any other app. Search for fix internal storage permissions. The thread should come up.

Thanks. I boot to TWRP 2.6.x, File Manager, use chmod on snapchat folder and subfolders, reboot and the video record works. This was on Supernexus 4.3 on T-Mobile Galaxy S2 T989.

I'm a little slow, what is chmod? I tried finding the snapchat folder to delete after unistall, but could not. I'm flashing a new rom now coincidentally so I'm hoping snapchat will just work after that... otherwise I might try this fix permissions app. I would really like to be able to send video snaps. Seems like it should be an easy enough thing....
Bump
Also having this problem. I installed Cyanogenmod 10.2 on my GS3, used titanium backup. Ended up reverting to my nandroid backup a few hours later, and now my snapchat cannot record videos, look at videos, OR see "My Story" posts (if i click on them, it does a quick load, but doesn't open)
I read through this thread, but cannot figure out how to delete the SnapChat folder in recovery mode. I tried deleting it in the TWRP file manager, and it SAYS it deleted it, but it is still there. Any help please?

[Q] insufficient storage available CM11

hello,
I am having this problem since a week now on my Galaxy S4 I9505 with CM11 rom. When I try to install a new app from the playstore or when I try to update an app, I get this insufficient storage available error. but when I go and look how much space there is available. I see there is more then 5GB+ available in the internal storage. I read a lot about it in several topics and forums and I tried all solutions and nothing worked. I tried emptying my cache, updated the rom to the latest nightly build, emptying dalvik-cache. can somebody help with this problem. its driving me crazy
any help would be appreciated

Hi mate
Is a playstore error
1 Delete the app that is giving you problems at /data/app-lib
2 If the problem continues delete the app at /data/data
3 If problem continues delete also the app at /data/app
You may lose the settings of the app , backup app before you do anything
hello,
thank you for your very fast reply. but the problem does not only persist on apps that need updates but also on new apps I never installed before. so the app doenst have any folder in one of the locations you mentioned. and let me give you another example. I downloaded xbmc apk manually en tried to install it manually and it gave me a similar error like in the play store.

Hi
But what about the ones that need update , did you delete the folders of those to see if it helps?
Also clear data and cache from google play framework
Do you use ROM Manager to create Nandroid backups? Or ClockworkMod Recovery in general?
If so you may very well have your nandroid backup tacking up all that space.
ROM Manager defaults to save your backups in the internal storage and then hides the files so they can't be accidentally deleted.
This results in the file manager showing available space that really isn't available.
Delete the old nandroids or move them to the external SD card to make room.

SD Card, Gallery, Whatsapp Media Access Problems on CM14.1/ Related ROMS

Hello everyone, I'm a new user here.
I'm experimenting with my Moto G4 Plus (XT1643), and have tried the latest versions of CM14.1, Resurrection Remix 5.8.0, yet.
I was facing many such problems as :
1. Unable to set Contact pics.
2. Access denials when trying to access media from different applications such as Whatsapp, Messenger, Instagram.
3. Music/ Video access problems.
All of which I pegged to permission related problems ( a mere hunch) and found that few others have encountered such problems, who have reported them on the main thread.
However, I cannot post on them, being a newbie.
I found a workaround to the problem. If this helps, I'd be happy to help you.
1. Go to TWRP Recovery.
2. Advanced > Terminal (a live Emulator doesn't do the work even with root access, I don't know why)
3. Change permissions for required folders.
Eg. For WhatsApp, go to the sdcard and
Execute "chmod 775 WhatsApp"
Which basically changes permissions to Read/Execute for the folder and subfolders.
This can be done for the entire sdcard as well, that's your choice.
It works for me, I don't face the problems anymore.
Tell me if it does for you

Well, yeah, but that might be an option many won't take before flashing a custom ROM. Most just wipe cache and data.

Invalid download on Nubia Z17 Lite

I have problems downloading files in some apps (Tapatalk, 4PDA...) and installing apps from Google Play on Nubia Z17 Lite - the download stops working at one time. Sometimes it helps to change the WiFi network, but sometimes I have to clear Google Play and Google Play Services cache and memory and reboot the phone. Does anyone know of any lasting solution to this problem? Thank you in advance

I have the same problam. Help
I had same problem.I go to apps and force stop Google play stroe and Clear data. Also i do same to Google Services and fix my problem every time.I hope Nubia fix this with update
I am also having problems with Play Store and Google account synchronization - it worked fine for a few days, but then Play Store stopped downloading/updating any apps (it is stuck on Downloading, but doesn't start to download anything) and synchronization to my Google Account doesn't work.
I tried various methods, like rebooting, removing data&cache of Play Store+Google Play Services+Download manager, uninstalling/reinstalling Play Store & Google Play services, removing/re-adding my Google account, wiping cache+dalvik from TWRP, but nothing helped. Then I realized that when I kill SwiftKey process, it started to work instantly. It seems that SwiftKey is blocking Google services mainly when I have synchronization to Google Account enabled. Then I noticed the same problem with Google Contacts app.
I suspect that it may be one of Nubia system apps what is causing these problems.
What I found is some text in a Russian forum, translated using google translator, it can be worth of trying to disable that app cloning service:
For what it's needed: firstly , for those who do not use cloning, this is an unnecessary functionality; secondly , this chip conflicts with Google's synchronization (for example, with the G-board keyboard) and in general with all Google services. Who does not care about all this, you can not read further.
What you need: TWRP or root-access, PC and ADB
1. Delete CMVirtualbox.apk (located on the system / priv-app / CMVirtualBox path ) or just rename / delete the .apk extension to ease the rollback.
2. Connect the phone to the PC, run the command line (all the necessary drivers must be installed, debugging by USB is enabled, the start is made from the ADB folder), we write the command:
adb shell pm remove-user 10
and press enter. After success, reboot for persuasiveness.
As a result, cloning will be disabled, G-board keyboard messages "Synchronization on devices with G-Suite account or Android for work profile is not supported" will not appear any more and Google services will work more adequately. Successful to you of samples!
PS For rollback just return CMVirtualbox.apk , reboot, and everything returns to normal.

For me, the problem was resolved by uninstalling SwiftKey. For some reason, it blocks Google services and just stoping it's process or hibernating it using Greenify solves the problem immediately. Maybe it would help also to use sync with Microsoft account instead of Google in SwiftKey settings. I saw a similar issue also with Google Contacts app (Nubia Contacts works fine).
Since switching to Gboard, problem didn't appear again and Google Play and sync works without any issues.

You are welcome Although not rooting it would be pity...With root it is easier to get the phone into more useable state, like background apps not getting killed to get notifications on new messages properly etc. It helps to turn a few apps into system apps and/or add them in ProcessManager database as protected apps.
How to root?

I think there is no detailed step-by-step guide, but you can gather information from threads about this phone. You mainly need to have ADB drivers, unlock bootloader, flash TWRP and from it flash Magisk.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=76842677&postcount=26 (you can just skip flashing boot.img and files init.qcom.post_boot.sh and .thermal-mode-01-01.conf, just flash magisk ZIP instead)

LATEST UPDATE: Now I'm stuck in the "Nubia...Powered by Android" start screen. This happened after I tried to install v1.05. This opened the TWRP screen in Chinese. I selected the bottom-right button and then again the bottom-right and chose English and then rebooted.
I can still get into twrp mode by long pressing the volume down + power keys.
What steps do I need to take to make the phone boot properly again?
-----
-- I posted this section below earlier before I had this boot problem
--
I finally found the time (and the courage) to try this out.
SuperSu was installed so hopefully I didn't miss anything. Does it mean that the device is rooted?
I can successfully get into su mode with a terminal app.
Also, I have two root checker apps. One is showing that the device is rooted, and the other shows that it's not.
All my apps and settings remained as they were.
IS THIS OK? I expected that the process will wipe all the data.
I didn't flash majisk. IS IT NEEDED IF THE DEVICE IS ALREADY ROOTED?
And lastly, I still can't download from the play store
Any suggestions on that issue?
Thank you so much

How did you install v1.05? You need to do it from emergency recovery using OTG cable/adapter, not from TWRP.
If you went from LineageOS to stock, you need to wipe data from emergency recovery, because the storage is encrypted.

1. You can try wiping data & cache partitions.
2. Use that emergency recovery and flash zip over OTG from there again.

Thank you,
I already tried that.
The problem is that in emergency recovery mode the thumb drive that is connected with OTG cable is not recognized.
In TWRP I can mount that drive, but in emergency recovery mode its not mounted.
UPDATE: I tried different USB drives. One of them mounted. I found that this one was formatted in FAT. Since this is a small 2Gb drive that cannot hold the ROM, I found another drive that was formatted in ExFAT that also loaded correctly.
I loaded the ROM as suggested and now the phone is working again.
My guess is that the phone can't read NTFS file format in emergency recovery mode.
Thank you!!!

Yes, NTFS is not supported very well on Android. Use just FAT32, that should work fine. ExFAT also works only somewhere....

In that case you probably don't have SwiftKey installed - it is not installed by default But if Play Store doesn't download and Google account sync doesn't work for you, it may be some different app causing the deadlock. You should go thru all apps and force closing them one by one...when you kill the problematic process, Play Store will start downloading immediately. You can do it from Settings - Apps, or use some app for that.
I really appreciate your help.
I forcefully disabled all apps but the problem remained.

Root Storage Completely Full

Hi all,
I have a OnePlus 6T, rooted with Magisk and have TWRP installed.
After the latest Oxygen OS update (currently 9.0.15), I rerooted as normal and got everything going again. When I launched AdAway and tried to sync its list, it failed saying there was insufficient root storage. Lo and behold, when I checked with Solid Explorer, my root folder has 0 bytes remaining of its 2.71GB capacity.
Since I figured it would be inadvisable to start deleting things from the root storage, I wanted to check and see if anyone else has run into this, or if anyone has a solution.
I also have Titanium Backup if it's possible that that is part of the problem.
Thanks!

Is there anyway we can increase that space or have it redirect to SD card once it's full?
