How to prevent my new N930A from auto updating to 2APHE - AT&T Note 7 Questions & Answers

I just received my new unlocked N930A from Best Buy this afternoon. I haven't decided if I want to "root"
my phone yet. I'd like to keep my options open for the next few days to see someone is able to achieve root
on phones running updated to 2APHE. I haven't installed a sim card and I haven't registered the phone with
my home's wifi network either. There should be no way for Sammy/AT&T to auto update my phone to 2APHE
if I continue to leave the sim card out, not log in to my wifi and leave the phone at home (I'm using my Note 5
for the time being) right?
I've read about an app called Package Disabler that can be used to disable the phone's auto update feature.
I have a few questions about the Package Disabler app:
1) Does it work?
2) How can I install it from the play store without risking an auto update to 2APHE (inserting the sim card or
logging onto my wifi network)?
3) How do you use Package Disabler to prevent 2APHE from being auto installed?
Thanks in advance.

Okay so I went through this with my replacement. I had auto update disabled on my first device and never even seen a notification try to come up on it, ever. I anticipated this for the new one so I knew I had to get into the phone and disable update before it tried to download it. I could not get past the setup wizard without connecting to the internet. Really pissed me off that they forced this on me. As soon as I connected to my home wifi I rebooted my routed (which is in the attic, I did it through a web browser) to try and stop it from downloading the update. I could not get passed a single friggen step without being connected to the net. The MOMENT it gets connected it will try to grab that update. There is nothing you can do to stop it from downloading, but you can stop it from installing.
As soon as you get past the setup screen, get into the home screen and quickly log in and download package disable pro. Quickly scroll down and check the following 3 items to disable them: software update (there are 2) and UrgentFWUpdateTSP This will stop the phone from installing the update, but unfortunately it is already downloaded and you will see a pending update in the settings menu from now on.

As soon as best buy handed me my phone I used package disabler pro right away.

when i got mine the green battery update was on its second day, so i was ready for it. to get through setup i skipped all the things, then added my google account when opening the play store to download Package Disabler Pro. Opened the app and disabled everything update related. i never saw, or got prompted to install the update at all.

You should be fine to connect and set up without the update. I installed my sim card and set everything without the update.. After a while i did disable any update related items mainly because the green battery update may have some flaws. I dont care about root

Package disabler is an AWESOME APP and well worth the money. Yes you can freeze all useless apps with it.

Don't use an AT&T sim. That's how I haven't been able to update it

Wifi Keeps Turning Itself On

Ok about a couple hours ago I noticed my wifi would turn itself on multiple times, and I turn it off and it keeps coming on, I think it does it when I put my phone to sleep, im not sure. I think it started happening since I installed the Blue Star 5 theme. Any ideas?
Stupid question... but you don't have Locale installed do you?
Figured I would ask. I have mine set up so that it would automatically fire up my wifi because although I get 3G outside I can't get it through my mighty wooden walls where I live. Go figure. Every so often I guess Locale looses my position and it puts me on and off the network. Pretty annoying. So I disabled that and installed some apps to keep my wifi on even while my phone sleeps. There's a few out there, Wifi Insomnia, Wi-Fi Lock, KeepWiFi are a few that I have experiment with. Although since I have all three installed now... I'm honestly not sure which one I'm using.

Hmmm. Well... maybe try seeing if it does it in safe mode if that doesn't work. If it does it in safe mode too then I dunno. If it doesn't then it's probably an app messing with it.
I heard it could be ShopSavvy that is causing that.
If you have an app like keepwifi that basically keeps your wifi signal on, that might be whats causing it. If not, you might want to try other apps that require things such as internet access or access to settings.
We need an list of apps you have installed. Power Manager will do this also.
I too am having this problem!
Sometime the wifi doesn't stay on and I only knew it was turning on thanks to wifi toggle's symbol at the top.
I am running JF's 1.43 RC9 with root etc etc.
The apps I have installed are:
ASTRO
Download crutch lite
DroidFtp
Droidsans tweak tools
fBook
GPS status
JF updater
Meebo
PapiJump
Picasa
Pkt auctions ebay
Ringdroid
Scrambled net
Shazam
Shopsavvy (my suspisions are on this one!)
Skype
Sms awake
Toggle wifi
Thanks
Phil
Okay, figured out what it is. Its the theme u downloaded. Couple hours ago my g1 started turning on the wifi whenever it felt like it.I figured it was something I downloaded recently but I downloaded apps to check them out& then uninstalled them.apps have no effect after u uninstall them.then u mentioned the theme u just downloaded. Well go figure,I just downloaded the same theme wit a few others today.then my wifi started acting up.concidence? I think not.
Lol let me know how u do.
Hmmm, im not sure if its the theme, someone mentioned the setting on ShopSavvy, after I took it off it hasnt been turning on. I still have the theme on btw, but I modified it, so it may have been ShopSavvy
wifi not turning on
My problem is different my wifi wont turn on? if i start my wifi it will show a message that wifi failed to turn on... Can anyone help me on this
Weird, i had shopsavvy from day one, never encountered such a problem. still have it, and deleted the theme. Now the wifi is back to normal. problem with the G1 is, everyone can have the same problems or issues but different solutions with each device lol. the beauty of the G1.
Btw, does anyone know if the "shake awake" app really kills the battery?

ShopSavvy is a definite cause of this problem. I've been in touch with the developers over it, and they have admitted that there's a problem with the WiFi coming on randomly
they've assured me that the next update will fix it. i hope so, because ShopSavvy was useful until it started doing this
here you go guys............i posted this in the Tethering thread as well. this will fix the issue. it is indeed Shop Savvy, but heres the fix, just copy and pasted from my other post:

1. On your G1, open the Shop Savvy APP
2. once Shop savvy's screen shows up, SELECT settings
3. select PRIVACY
****you will see a phase that says "find my location" with a button to the right that will say "ON"****
4. press the button, now it should say "OFF"
5. Exit out of Shop Savvy
Voila.........no more disconnects. I have been tethering for 2 hours non-stop. happy tethering.
my wifi keeps today also itself on
I never installed Shopsavvy. So that cant be the problem.
I didnt changed anything today on my phone

yes, this fixes the issue of ShopSavvy randomly switching on the WiFi and disconnecting ongoing sessions, but it completely renders the most useful thing about ShopSavvy useless.
I've been beta testing the latest version of ShopSavvy, and it doesn't seem to be doing this random WiFi anymore. It is also a version of ShopSavvy that is compatible with Cupcake 1.5.

Wifi on Windows Phone 8

Wifi used to turn off under standby on Windows Phone 7, which was the most stupidest feature in the whole OS I don't care what anyone says. Can anyone confirm if this is still present in WP8?
Since nobody got their hands on a device that's not even out yet, we can't answer that.
How can anyone confirm such a statement when the os isn't even out yet? (and some features may be still on the work, since the sdk isn't the final version yet?)

There is/are an app(s) for that!
Even if it is still present in WP8, you can always have an app to help you add this feature (like other OS always does!)
Hi,
It would be really great if you could let me know the name of any of the apps which helps in keeping the wifi on all the time.
I am not having a rooted handset so I cannot change the registry entries and would only be able to get an app which is already in the marketplace

Its called keep alive
it has a logo of a heart
look it up in the market place
FWIW, even though the Wifi is switched off when the screen is off, I believe the OS does switch on & off the wifi as and when it needs to (checking emails, receiving push notifications etc) without fully waking the phone (ie the display stays off)
I run an app that polls a local server every few hours to check for new items. The local IP 192.168.1.65, as it appears on the local network, is the IP it checks. Every morning when I check my phone, the live tile has been updated overnight. It can't have made contact with the server unless it was connecting via Wifi, so therefore the Wifi is indeed being used even when the screen is off.
Therefore, I have no use for Keepalive or any of these apps. I'm not sure why people need it?
There were some recent news which mentioned that Live apps (Don't ask) will most likely remain active, even with the screen locked.
Also, seems that enabling your app as a GPS app will most likely let your app. However, these are discussions and rumors.
Wifi does not get completely shut down when you lock the screen. It simply enters a power-saving mode, cause you won't actively need your connection while phone is locked.
You can check this in easy steps. Get an app that updates itself over internet everytime you run it (say a whether app) and lock the screen at the exact moment when the app goes past the loading screen. You if you press the power button, you will see wifi is active in the status bar.
If you lock it the usual way, while nobody needs wifi, you will see wifi gets turned off almost instantly.
What if you are downloading bunch of podcasts ? Will the podcast app keep the wi-fi on until it finishes ? Also.. skype (or any other chat program) needs to check for updates as well.
I am sure they've made it seamless..

Get rid of update screen

Whenever a switch data locations, so when I connect to wifi or disconnect then connect to mobile data my phone comes up with an update screen and asks me to update my phone and boy is it getting annoying, is there anyway to stop this from happening? I need to replace my recovery to stock but just havent had time to do so. :good:

so the steps people have been saying to do is to locate the Moto OTA app (in settings - app - all), FC it and then Disable Notifications. But this doesn't work for me.. I usually just end up deleting the .zip file. Eventually it comes back, but it buys me time in between notifications.
Use Titanium Backup and disable MotoOTA.apk or whatever.

verizon s7 rooted - won't connect to youtube or play store

hello. The title pretty much speaks for itself. I used Odin to root. non - 'google-fied' apps seem to have no problem connecting. Google apps give message not connected, try again. Everything else 'seems' to be working fine.
Also, do you think if i do the unroot thing, apply the verizon update that i just got today, then root again MIGHT fix this?
Ah, after talking to my son - he put this app on my phone - freedom. He says you can do in-app purchases for free in some apps. I uninstalled the program in case it might have some kind of interference running in the background. Still nada. I have rebooted and run a cleaner several times.
Can I get some advice please?
thank you
Mike
I have a hunch.
Check if your Date and Time and correct.
In Date and Time, uncheck automatic, and then recheck it.
Make sure the time on your upper notification bar is the same as the time when you pulldown the quick tiles.
Reboot
Profit

An error has occurred while updating the device software (2018)

Hello,
As i attempted to root my Galaxy Tab A (SM-T580), it came up with the following message..."custom binary frp lock". In an attempting to repair that error, this error come up..."An error has occurred while updating the device software".
Can anyone please give me a fix for this. My tablet is on 6 months old & i'd like to savage it if i can. any help is deeply & truly appreciated.
Ravendark
I found this on xda from someone else with the SM-T580:

It's very frustrating because I need this tablet working in order to take notes in my college classes. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated, thanks.
I was having the same problem, but i figured it out last night. Without OTG cable, Odin, SideSync, Realtek, or a PC. I'd been messing with it for 3 days, so Im not 100% sure of what everything said and i'm definitely not going to relock it to try an duplicate it, but if you've been all over youtube then you've seen methods that require a wifi connection, (I found it easiest to use my phone's wifi hotspot) you disconnect your hotspot or unplug your router immediately when it says checking for software update, which appears after clicking accept on the privacy policy. (Again it's easier to just turn off the hotspot than to unplug your router" When done correctly it souls say "couldn't sign in" and then the next screen will either ask you to set up time and date or it asks you to add a name to the tablet (can't remember which is first) then asks to set up a screen lock passcode or pattern (set up either one), after doing all this 100 times I noticed it asked me if i wanted to set up a IMAP/POP3 account to use within the Gmail app (which I'd been skipping) but for some reason it didn't give me this option every time. You have to be connected to the internet for the next part so if you haven't already go ahead and turn your hotspot back on or router and add any email address other than a Gmail (I used my yahoo account) then follow through with the setup into it takes you back to the very first screen you see when you turned on the tablet. Now just turn the tablet screen off and back on (just the screen, do not power down the tablet) put in your lockscreen password and now In the top right corner there should be a little yellow icon which lets you switch users (if you see this, you've got it beat) now create a new user signing into your Gmail and Samsung accounts (if you don't have one, create a new account) once you're done with that it will take you to the home screen, pull down the notification bar and go into settings (notice since you're on an added user you can't factory reset the device) find "Users", and then switch back to the owner profile, it then tells you that you still need to set up the tablet to continue. Once i clicked okay it now let me pull down the notification bar to access settings, but this time you're on the owners account so you can factory reset it, go to "Back up and Reset" and then go ahead and factory reset it again. If done correctly the FRP will no longer be on the tablet. I know this probably sounds extremely complex so if you have any questions feel free to message me and Ill give you my email and phone number and ill help walk you through it
