Hello everyone, I'm beginner in android. I want to know if I rooted my phone and wanted to remove it using SuperSU or KingRoot will it keep a trace or log that I rooted my phone? And if Yes, how to erase this log permanently?
My device is Huawei P8 Lite (ALE-L21) Marshmallow 6.0

Flash your official firmware again. Either via fastboot or through sdcard upgrade. This will unroot your phone only. But as your bootloader is now unlocked. It shows that your phone's software is tampered. Even if you try to lock the bootloader again it will say relocked not locked. Hope you understand this

After flashing update.app you will lose root but you still can't reclaim warranty (even if you delete all logs/traces). Read this page.

What type of root you have. System or systemless.
Traces of systemless root is easy to remove. Just hard reset your phone.

Yes it will erase the records. But to root the phone you need to unlock the phone's bootloader which will void your warranty and there is no going back from it. So choose wisely. Rooting isn't the only thing that will void your warranty. Unlocking the bootloader also can. By unlocking the bootloader even though you don't root phone your warranty is void.

Yes. Absolutely right but Huawei did not send update for this phone. Even though my phone was untouched(not rooted&factory locked). So even then I had to flash update.app manually (which isn't hard at all) . Also Huawei isn't releasing p8 lite update anytime soon. So it is safe to root.

Short answer even if you you erase root traces you still won't receive update (ota) because of unlocked bootloader. I guess your didn't read the unlocking agreement that I mentioned earlier.

.
YOU CAN'T ROOT WITHOUT UNLOCKING YOUR BOOTLOADER.

Should I wait to unlock and root if I want to get Marshmallow or is there a way to get it unlocked and rooted?
I would think as long as you do not stray from the stock software you would still get the OTA update. I do not think unlocking the bootloader and simply rooting the phone would prevent the OTA but I could be wrong.

Would rooting and then updating break something though? I thought I may have read that somewhere on here.
I just looked into it a little bit more and I think as long as you do not flash a non-stock recovery image you should just be able to disable any system modifications such as xposed and unroot and the update would come through. You can probably find more information on this on google or the moto forums.
Im sure the devs will capture the OTA and make a flashable version, that's usually what happens. It usually doesnt take more than a day after the OTA to do it.
My plan is to wait until after Marshmallow is out before unlocking the bootloader if rooting. Since we have a unlock available we don't have to worry about updates breaking exploits so I am in no rush. The phone is pretty amazing even without root. Once Marsh is out I will test drive a bit and go from there. It could take a week before a dev drops the update or it could take hours... you never know.
Hmmmmm well I'm unlocked and rooted with TWRP..
But there is a Back to Stock zip..
So once Marshmallow comes out ,I'll just go back to Stock and take the OTA...

Yeah, if you have already done it I'm sure someone can assist in getting you the files needed. Even if a dev can walk me through I don't mind pulling it for you. Maybe there will be a back to stock using the marshmallow image then just reroot after installing twrp and you are good to go

Root breaks the ability to take an OTA, even using the supersu unroot feature the OTA will fail. The only way to take an OTA is to flash a fully stock system and recovery.

From what I understand it's not so much root that affects the ability to take an OTA it is the bootloader flag and recovery image. Also I think that while a new OTA would completely overwrite the system directory, since we can unlock bootloader, you can just re-flash SuperSU without issue.
I have to say that I'm a bit confused because Motorola have stated that unlocking the bootloader won't affect OTA updates here - https://motorola-global-portal.cust...tail/a_id/91999/p/1449,8620/kw/bootloader OTA
Can anyone clear this up for sure? I'd say a custom recovery would definitely affect them but not just unlocking the bootloader.

That's right...unlocking the bootloader alone won't stop an OTA. The custom recovery will be the issue. Basically if you're rooted and running TWRP all you have to do is follow the instructions in the Return To Stock thread and you're good to go for an OTA. Its a pretty simple process.

Yes you will receive the notification, but in most cases update fail to install due to various reasons, first is that system has been modified.
I was never afraid of bricking my devices and tried to see what happens. After restarting, when I saw the twrp logo, I was a bit sceptical, but after 2 minutes or so, phone restarted in stock recovery and finishing update

I performed update process automatically, just press install after download has finished.
After some checking device rebooted in twrp and after some installation in twrp ( modem.img and things like this. I don't pay attention to device ), device rebooted second time, this time in stock recovery and finished the installing process.
But as far as I know even the dload method is safe. Your data partition is safe. As long as you update.app is from an update.zip , not from a stock full rom.
Update: I checked received package and didn't see any format or erase command on /data partition
It should be safe to flash even with dload method

My bootloader is still unlocked after update.
I really don't know what contain all updates.
And be aware that any rooted device can get bricked by official updates. So if you need your data partition, you have 2 options
1- stay with stock software and receive updates officially
2- experiment what you want with your device, but do a backup first or prepare yourself for data loss
I had a lot of luck with this update. Is first time when this happens to me
Hi,
I have an EU G7 L01, followed this guy's tutorial (http://ministryofsolutions.com/2016...ade-marshmallow-europe-asia.html#comment-2438) to update to marshmallow, replacing the "oeminfo" file with a turkish version, to trick the phone into updating. The new file had no IMEI in it, and after the update I was left with a locked bootloader, no root and no way to replace that file with my backup, to make the phone accept the sim card. From what I see, I'm either left with a small tablet or I have to replace the motherboard to make it work again.
Any other ideas would be appreciated.

To get your device to its original state, you need to downgrade to B340 of the Turkish firmware: http://download-c.huawei.com/download/downloadCenter?downloadId=74865&version=273720&siteCode=tr
Do a forced update with B340, root the device using Kingroot, replace your original oeminfo file, then install the official EU firmware.
If you really want to use marshmallow, then the only way will be to pay for your bootloader to be unlocked. On the source post, it clearly states that there was a problem with unlocking the bootloader, and HCU Client should be used to unlock it. The problem with that guide is that the bootloader unlock code only works a certain amount of tries before it becomes unusable, and the only way to replace your original oeminfo file is to have root, which is only possible on marshmallow with an unlocked bootloader.
I would suggest you let the guy who wrote the article know about your issue. Regardless of whether he stated that it is done at your own risk, he either needs to amend his article to that of the source, or remove it completely, as many people will not be able to pay $5 to get the bootloader unlock code.
Good luck!

Hi there! I've always been a Samsung user and I'm familiar with chainfire rooting method, Odin, the damn knox and all the tools that people need to achieve the beloved full control of our phones.
Let's go straight to the point: I need to buy a new phone for a friend of mine and the P9 Lite seems the most complete and suitable but I've read that if you unlock the bootloader and root it you obviously loose your warranty. The phone is unrootable by flashing a fresh OS image, but the bootloader will stay unlocked, tripping the useful warraty.
Is there any damn way to revert everything to stock in case there should be the need to send the phone to the customer service?
Thanks for the infos!

You can relock the bootloader if you reinstall a stock rom and revert to stock recovery, just fyi... Also there have been reports that the warranty is not void if the issue was not caused by a faulty software. Also if you are new to Huawei, be careful. And READ! A lot of people don't read, and mess up their phone...
Instead of making a new thread about the same issues I'll pitch in here too. What is the safest way to root and unroot in case of warranty? LIke the OP I came from the Samsung ecosystem too but I get the feeling if I don't at least ask about Huawei's one I'll probably **** something up.

Huawei says they "could" apply fee on unlocked phones. Maybe relocking it restores warranty? I tried to ask them but damn Chinese they don't reply.
They could, but the chance of that happening is really low, especially if your device is 100% bricked, and it needs a motherboard swap

If it's hardbricked and bootloader is unlocked and the problem is not related to bootloader or a process you made that requires unlocked bootloader, I think they won't fee you because it has nothing to do with bootloader. But of course a company will always choose cheaper way. If a phone goes download mode or fastboot mode it's already saved anyway.

If you have access to fastboot mode, you can flash anything. You dont have to flash an img permenantly if you want to save your phone. Use
Code:
fastboot boot boot.img
you can boot your recovery without rooting your phone. You can even open your custom recovery and flash your system.img or stock boot.img.

Not even into the bootloader nor recovery. It was completely unresponsive. Now the phone is not in my hands so any suggestion is too late...
My phone keeps bugging me to install OTA update for krack vulnerability. I tried and it sent my phone to boot loop and now I have it restored. My phone has xposed installed. What is the best course of action? I would like to update but if that's not possible can I at least stop having the message show up each time I unlock my phone?
You could try to disable/freeze the Motorola-Updateservices (/system/priv-app/3c_ota/3c_ota.apk) or flash a new full (not OTA) firmware for your device without boot.img, recovery.img and without wiping data.
Beware: After flashing a full firmware, all modifications to the system partition are lost and have to be redone.
I always disable all 3c moto services and never faced problems because of it.

Beware: After flashing a full firmware, all modifications to the system partition are lost and have to be redone.
I always disable all 3c moto services and never faced problems because of it.

Is that even safe not to apply the patch? I find it hard to believe just because you root your device you can't update it.

Is it a good idea to avoid security updates? No, it isn't. Is it clever to avoid updated drivers? No, it isn't (at least in most cases).
You should have informed yourself about the backdraws of rooting your phone before you did it. You need to be completely on stock firmware without any changes
to the system files to be able to use an OTA for updating your phone. This is needed to be safe the OTA update works the way it should.
The best way for updating a rooted phone is to install the full updated rom, which is easy to get for our device.

Some of my apps (like TI backup) need root. Is there a root for this version yet? I've tried searching but I find these forums very difficult to navigate.

Same procedure as on other stock rom versions): you need ElementalX kernel to be flashed and afterwards your desired root method(magisk is recommended).
