package Disable pro and EAS messages - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

Anyone know what to re-enable to allow the Samsung Messaging app to receive/display EAS broadcasts with disable bloatware enabled. They use EAS in the Detroit area to notify people of flooded highways like what happened yesterday. My Nexus 6 and other coworkers phone got the message but not my s7 edge.

Faulty Voicemail Notification

Yes I'm a newbie to this forum so be nice.
Has anybody had problems with their new voicemail notification staying on after you've gone over and deleted your new messages? I've done a soft reset like 5 times and deleted every message from my voicemail and my today screen still says I have voicemail and the notification sounds when I start it up. I'm thinking this doesn't have anything to do with the phone itself but rather Sprint (??) I had a PPC6701 previously and the Fusic and I had problems with this as well...
Just wondering if this has happened to anybody else and if you know why or how to fix it..
Thanks.
My Faulty Voicemail is a little different
No matter how many vmail messages I have, my Mogul only indicates that I have 1 message. Over and over again, I'm told I've got one, and only one, voicemail. Very annoying that this expensive little device can't give an accurate tally of the messages. You'd think they'd have solved that by now. I mean, it's 2007. Sheesh.
yeah, i have the same thing, sometimes after deleting a messege it says i still have one, then ill get another voice mail and it will still say 1 (annoying since i neverknow if the 1 messege is real or fake)
ill usually call myself and leave a messege, then delete it and it goes away (until the next time i get a voice mail and its back)

I've read that the issue is a limitation of the Sprint network.
That is due to limitations of CDMA, or so I've heard.
I also have issues with the voicemail indicator not "leaving" after a message is deleted...the only fix I've found is to leave myself a message (normally by calling from another phone) and delete that normally....MOST of the time that works.

I havent had that issue at all, it may just be the signal in your area. As far as having multiple voicemails with notification of one, yes that is a staple of sprint's service. however on the nextel side, this does not occur. One thing i have noticed with my mogul, is that the notification will pop up when i get an additional message i just often ignore it, the best thing to do is just clear the vmail indication so the next new message you get, you know its new. that is all.

I have had a similar and ongoing problem with my Alltel Voice Mail. It started, possibly by coincidence, on August 1st when they took over Midwest Wireless. At that time I had a PPC6700 and my wife had an LG4400. They had us try switching to the new PPC6800's and still, on either phone if you used the automatic playback option - whereby when you call in the messages will play automatically, when you hit 5 to delete - it should delete the message indicator on your phone screen. Ours will not.
In my many discussions with Alltel they would reset our voice mail which meant that you had to go in and re-record your messages, etc.. When that was done it puts all your Voicemail items to the default settings and in that mode you have to dial 1 to play your messages. If you leave it in that mode it will delete the voice mail indicator.
If you switch it back to automatic playback mode, it will not delete the indicator.
I have spent probably hours on the phone with Alltel and their techs to no avail. Even after I tracked the problem down to the Automatic Playback mode.
Not sure if this is a similar problem but it would be nice if the carriers would (could) fix their own network?

That would work if those options were in WM5...so far they're only showing up in WM6 (to my knowledge). I just checked my sampson WM5 phone settings, and that option isn't there....but I do remember it in at least one of the WM6 builds I've run.

I assumed everyone was running WM6 since that's what comes on the Titan and this is in the Titan forum. Nobody had mentioned running WM5 anywhere.
I can confirm that this option is in the stock rom as well as DCD's.
That option is not available on my PPC6800 from Alltel either.

Delayed Push Notifications

I've noticed that my S7E Exynos has a similar problem to my S6E (which I returned) with getting notifications delayed when idle for a while and would only appear when device would be picked up and unlocked. I've been using my Nexus 5 MM for the past couple of months (between the S6E and S7E) and never had this issue so I was wondering what might be causing this?
At first I thought it might be Samsungs 'App Optimization' so I've disabled all my apps that push notifications to see if that fixes it. Hopefully this 'App Optimization' doesn't affect MM Doze.
Thanks

From the Doze docs:
GCM is optimized to work with Doze and App Standby idle modes by means of high-priority GCM messages. GCM high-priority messages let you reliably wake your app to access the network, even if the user’s device is in Doze or the app is in App Standby mode. In Doze or App Standby mode, the system delivers the message and gives the app temporary access to network services and partial wakelocks, then returns the device or app to idle state
It means unless push-notifications are of high-priority, they will not be delivered until the device wakes up (by user interaction) or during a Doze maintenance window. This applies only when the device is in Doze mode, if it's yet to enter Doze, then that doesn't apply. Also,
An app that is whitelisted can use the network and hold partial wake locks during Doze and App Standby. However, other restrictions still apply to the whitelisted app, just as they do to other apps. For example, the whitelisted app’s jobs and syncs are deferred, and its regular AlarmManager alarms do not fire. An app can check whether it is currently on the exemption whitelist by calling isIgnoringBatteryOptimizations()
Exclude the desired applications from battery optimization. Please note, there are two optimization things, choose the one from Settings->Battery->click Battery Usage button -> More (right top) -> Optimize Battery Usage.
I've disabled stuff from App Optimization, but the problem still persists..

So, if your phone is in Doze, you won't receive push unless they are 'high priority' ? How does one set what is high priority or not? Kind of defeats the purpose of push notifications if you ask me. If I receive a WhatsApp for example, ideally i'd like to know I have one ASAP, and not wait for user interaction to receive it.

Nothing you can do about it, the developer has to switch to using GCM high-priority notifications. As the docs says,
If your server and client already uses GCM, make sure that your service uses high-priority messages for critical messages, since this will reliably wake apps even when the device is in Doze
If your users must see a notification right away, make sure to use a GCM high priority message
So developers are meant to use high-priority push notifications for such purposes. It's the developer's fault if they don't use GCM high-priority messages, which are optimized for Doze.

High-priority GCM messages do not otherwise affect Doze mode, and they don’t affect the state of any other app. This means that your app can use them to communicate efficiently while minimizing battery impacts across the system and device. (meaning only high-priority notifications can wake up the device, other notifications are ignored)

What doesn't make sense though is why did I never have this issue with my Nexus 5 (running MM) and I have this using my S6E and S7E (again, with MM)

Its all about timings. Your device enters Doze after 30 mins of being stationary, if your device moves then the time will be reset and it'll wait another 30 mins. Push notifications will be only delivered if it's high priority, otherwise it'll be delivered during a maintainence window or when you turn on your device. It could be that your Nexus 5 didn't enter Doze mode as often as your S7/S6 does, maybe you move your S6/S7 too much or you let it stay in Doze mode for longer (maintainence windows become less frequent as time passes by)
Try putting both your Nexus 5 and S7 on idle for an hour and then send a test email to your GMail account (should be added to the GMail app on both) and see which one gets it first.
There's a small possibility that Samsung modified certain values regarding Doze.

Nearly all. Ive noticed WhatsApp and Inbox, but it seems even Sync for reddit is having this issue (evem worse for the latter as I need to open the app to get the notification which defeats the purpose of having notifications completely).

Just tried an experiment. Put my phone down next to my gf's HTC A9 for 45 mins (so they both enter Doze), sent an e-mail to both; HTC received and showed notification fine, S7E nothing.. Had to open the Inbox app to even get the e-mail. Both on the same WiFi network.
edit: Tried my Nexus 5 as well, and also on/off WiFi and 4G, only one that has the issue is the S7E, all devices on MM.

Same here. Have you installed the latest OTA? Few people on Reddit have same issue and all seem to have it after the update. And me. I have to open WhatsApp to receive messages.

It is the latest APF2 update from Samsung. My phone was running great before that update. Now, all the messages are delayed and i have to open the apps to receive them. It has nothing to do with Doze or Battery optimization .
I decided to factory reset the phone and now it is working as normal (but i have to admit that I factory reset the S7 edge more than any other phones in my life!!!)
Same issue I'm having as well with my Galaxy S7 (AT&T).
Push notifications are severely delayed after the phone has been idle for awhile.
If I turn on my screen, notifications all come rushing in at once.
same issue as above. when left for awhile no notifications are coming through until the device is picked up and turned on. even text messages are not being notified.
any fixes for this? or anything..

As far as I know, there aren't any fixes yet. I guess we all have to wait till an update is released that fixes the problem.
It seems obvious my wife had the same problem over 1 week and it was because she had enabled power saving mode

Hi,
I think I was having a similar issue, and I believe it's related to the Power Save feature, are you with that feature turned on?

Schedule SMS?

It's there a way to schedule SMS in the stock app?
Yes. Its in the menu (the 3 dots) in the upper right. Start by making a message or opening a conversation.

Why? Mine works.
It's seems you have to have at least 1 received and 1 sent text in the string in order for scheduled sms to appear. I get the option on all my messages except for one I only received one message. T mobile.

It doesn't matter whether a conversation has been started or not, and it does work with advanced messaging on. I'm on ATT and can't even disable the advanced messaging for some reason (it's on, but the option to disable the checkbox is grayed out).

The 1st picture is with advanced messages off, the 2nd is with it on.
I'm also on AT&T and I can toggle my advanced messages on or off..
You all already saw the previous screenshots which showed the scheduled messages options, so its obvious that I am able to do them. But my advance messaging is locked on for some reason, so even with it on, I'm able to use scheduled sending.
Edit: It turns out that it's grayed out because I disabled Enhance LTE Services. If I enable that option, I can then toggle Advanced Messaging, but with Advanced Messaging off, I can still schedule messages if and only if I'm starting a new conversation. If in an existing conversation, the option disappears.

Hi,
I just got the new LG V20 for Sprint after my Note 4 totally died on Friday 12/23/2016 as I was about to make an 8 hour drive.
I was trying to hold out until new Galaxy 8 came out in their new super large screen.
Never made it.
So I had already looked into LG V 20. It's nice but missing some things that I need and loved. It also offers so really cool features that Samsung never offered.
But I discovered it cannot schedule and text message.
After reading online it seems that Sprint has switched over to the new advanced messaging system. And Android first release of the new messaging app for this system does not include the scheduling of text messages.
So now that everyone understands the real reason for it missing.
Is there a way to schedule text messages.
I haven't tested it through Google Now or Google Home.
But we may need a developer to come out with an app that can provide the until Sprint or Google add it to their message app.
Thank you.

I have an irritating problem with my v20 and i guess it's the case with every v20, because of the nature of my work, i schedulea message to be sent out at a different time everyday, most of the time the message fails to be delivered and the phone never notifies that the message has failed, any solution to make the phone leave a permanent report that the message has failed until i can dismiss the report manually?
Pay a secretary?
Anyways I can do all the stuff you guys can do with the stock LG Messaging and I'm not even clever.
Also you all have fkd up screens, send em back :silly:
I have Verizon and I don't see "Advanced Messaging" or "Schedule sending". I came from the s7 edge which had this feature, really sucks I don't have it...

Emergency Alerts

We had an amber alert yesterday but it didn't go off on my phone. Is this because I am using Textra and not the stock messaging app? I checked and all the settings are set on in the messaging app. It doesn't make sense that the settings for emergency alerts are even in the messaging app and not in general settings. I am on Nougat 7.0 if that matters.
I have this exact same question on my T-Mobile GS7 Edge. Curious to know the answer.
I use to get alerts on occasion also, now multiple phones later and all have them on. Yet I havent gotten one in a year or two. Thought it was maybe just my area.

Android Messenger Issues

Anyone have any thoughts on how to troubleshoot this issue -
Have Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge on Verizon. Was using Android Messenger by Google as my SMS app. About three weeks ago, my wife's texts from her Samsung Galaxy S7 on Verizon (also generated by Android Messenger) started coming in under the name "Anonymous" instead of her contact info and I could not text her (either as a reply or a new message). After some troubleshooting, we both switched to the default Samsung texting app and I can, usually, text her. However, sometimes, I get "Error 5: Other Network Error" when texting her. By waiting a while the message will go through. Android Messenger (which I keep trying to switch to) refuses to send messages to her - via the phone or Android Messenger for Web.
I can't find any discussion that this is a known issue for Android Messenger. I can't find any settings on either phone or Verizon online that says that there's some issue. Does anyone have any thoughts?
hey i had the same problem.
what i had to do was disable the samsung messaging app before setting the Android messenger app to default.

Weird. Well, it won't let me do that for some reason, but I did learn that I was behind on OTA updates by about 2 months. After doing both Aug. and Sept., it works. Not sure why. Guess we can mark this as solved.
