Q&A for [KERNEL] [SM-G900F] [CM12/CM11] Boeffla-Kernel 1.0-beta1 (23-03-2015)
Some developers prefer that questions remain separate from their main development thread to help keep things organized. Placing your question within this thread will increase its chances of being answered by a member of the community or by the developer.
Before posting, please use the forum search and read through the discussion thread for [KERNEL] [SM-G900F] [CM12/CM11] Boeffla-Kernel 1.0-beta1 (23-03-2015). If you can't find an answer, post it here, being sure to give as much information as possible (firmware version, steps to reproduce, logcat if available) so that you can get help.
Thanks for understanding and for helping to keep XDA neat and tidy!
Many thanks to our Lord for his hard work in last weeks.
Now it is a "real" S5 ))
Sound control?
The Boeffla control app v. 2.1.73 only offers volume adjustments in the Boeffla-Sound section. I tried running the Boeffla Sound Control App v. 1.7.1 from the market as well as a presumably modified version I found on XDA, but both force close immediately. Is there a way to take more advantage of the Boeffla-Sound options on this kernel (2.0-beta3-CM 12.1)?
Issue with CPU and GPU frequencies
Hello...
I have a Samsung Galaxy S5 and i have installed CM12 with the latest kernel 1.0 beta3 and i experience freezes and hot reboots...
I have not overclocked anything as you can see from the pictures and i have left all frequency clock settings at default values, but when i go to CPU-Z i see the values of CPU and GPU overclocked...
In the attached images i have the default settings in Boeffla for CPU on 2457MHz and in GPU at 578MHz and in CPU-Z i see that max CPU frequency is 2.84GHz and GPU is 657MHz...
Why is this happening?
Thank you in advance for your help...

Issue with CPU and GPU frequencies
It is being answered by Lord Boeffla...
All is normal. Tools like cpu-z and others always display the maximum possible frequency, regardless of what you cap the frequency to.
So, it just shows something not correct.
You can verify that very easily by using tools like CPU Spy etc and you will see, these high frequencies are indeed not used unless you allow it.
The reasons is: These tools always assume, when overclocking frequencies are available, they are used. Which is not the case by default in my kernel.
nameless rom KLTE 4.4.4
does it work on namelessrom nightly with stock kernel?
edit- will overclocking freeze my phone? i tried ktoonsez's kernel and it froze my phone. i had to reflash /system and rom, thankfully i kept all my data.

Flashed the latest beta kernel, reboots after booting and doesn't stop.
Thanks for your work...
Hello Boeffla,
i use your kernels since S3 and i was so happy when i read, that you also support the S5....
I'm very happy with the kernel and i never had problems with the kernel at all (using smoove, interacitve, conservative)!
I really appreciate when you further support the S5 development!

I tried this kernel (2.1-beta8) on BlissPop v3.6 (BlissPop-v3.6-klte-OFFICIAL-20150701-2254), but some features didn't work (ex: couldn't use tethering).
IMPORTANT: BlissPop is "customized" rom, so you must read and understand when want to use:

I would like to test this kernel with Exodus ROM 5.1.1 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/orig-development/rom-team-exodus-klte-t3135876). Is it compatible? If yes, how do I know what version of the kernel to take (CM11, CM12, CM12.1, Stock Lollipop 5.0)?
Thanks.
Problems with bluetooth on g900t
I have a g900t with cyanogenmod 12.1 installed. Whenever I try to pair my sony speakers to my phone the speakers do not work properly. So my question is, can I installed this kernel on my g900t? would this fix the bluetooth problem?
Thanks in advance.
Hi, I am new to this. Just got my S5 today.
The phone still got Android 5.0 with TouchWiz on it (original Samsung firmware) and is not rooted yet. I want to install CM 12.1 later. What kind of kernel do I need now? If I install the kernel via Odin is my phone then rooted and ready to install CM 12.1?
Thanks for any help.

You have to enable root, or to flash SuperSU (a third party, actually the most popular root solution for Android.).
I would actually like to recommend you the stock CyanogenMod root, but I myself am using SuperSU for a while, and I would have to search how to use the stock CM root with 12.1.
So either install SuperSU app from the play store, and download this zip: download.chainfire.eu/supersu, boot to recovery and flash it, to enable Chainfire's closed source root, or Google 'How to enable root on CyanogenMod 12.1' to find out how to use CyanogenMod's own root solution.
Edit:
So I dont have to type everything (instructions how to enable CyanogenMod's own root implementation, IIRC, and if nothing has changed in the meantime, it is Koush's implementation, which is open source:

Hi all,
I have UK SG312 on Andorid 4.3 rooted with SuperSU already installed .....
I have Phab7 installed via Xposed Installer and also a few other UI customisations via gravity box such as custom battery status .. but the main reason was to get the tablet mode UI option enabled so that the Back & Home .. etc buttons/icons are positioned in the more tablet friendly bottom left of the screen.
Is it possible to update to the official latest Android release (lollipop 5.1 - ROM 10.6.A.0.454) and keep my root, so that Phab7 / Xposed will still work .. or is it impossible to have legacy tablet mode ui on Lollipop ... is there an alternative to Xposed & Pahb7 that works for lollipop ?
I seem to remember that it was possible to update from 4.0 to 4.X and keep root using the OTA updates as long as SuperSU was installed and its binaries updated prior to running the update...
Does this method still work and will Phab7 still work ? ... do i need to do something with Phab7 or Xposed first ?
I tried to find the answers on the forum but couldn't find anything that matched my situation ....
Sorry all but i am about two years out of date with current Android unlock/root methods .... I've been happy with 4.3 so far ....
is it actually worth updating to 5.1 ?, is there a performance hit ?
So many questions ... any suggestion or advice greatly appreciated ...
Cheers
Jay
I'm on a SGP321 (LTE/4G) running 10.7.A.0.222 (LP 5.1.1).
10.7.A.0.228 has just been released, but is still vulnerable to stagefright.
Installing the Xposed framework on LP+ requires you to flash a zip file in recovery. You cannot install it through Android like before.
I'm running v78 sdk22 with Xposed Installer 3.0 alpha 4.
Is your device out of warranty?
If so, I'd recommend you unlock your bootloader to gain access to recovery.
You won't have to deal with losing root, and you can make system backups.
No need to unlock as there are working root exploits. See RootKit's post.
I too was reluctant to upgrade when Sony decided to remove the tablet mode.
I liked the nav bar on the left and notifications on the bottom right.
There was an Xposed module for KK4.4 which enabled the Tablet UI layout for the system called TabletKat. I used that while on KK. (repo.xposed.info/module/org.exalm.tabletkat)
But in Android 5+, they seemed to have totally removed the Tablet UI layout from SystemUI (as described here: ykkfive.blogspot.com.au/2013/11/real-original-xperia-tablet-ui-mode-for.html).
However, there is another module called "Xperia/AOSP NavBar Buttons" (repo.xposed.info/module/com.gzplanet.xposed.xperianavbarbuttons)
which allows you to add margin to the right to reposition the buttons. See attached screenshots.
It does not move the notifications to the bottom right.
Yes, there are ways to keep root but I've never needed to as I have unlocked my bootloader and have recovery.
The methods usually rely on software bugs, which usually get patched. So this may not be doable for LP.
Subjectively, Lollipop feels snappier, but that could just be because I started with a fresh copy of android.
All the root apps I use and most of my Xposed modules work, so I'm happy on 5.1.1.
Regardless, I would recommend you upgrade as there are many security vulnerabilities patched between 4.3 and 5.1.
If and when Sony finally decides to patch Stagefright, you should definitely upgrade.

You can update to 5.1.1 (not .454 as it is Android 5.0.2, but 10.7.A.0.222 or 10.7.A.0.228 firmware versions) via flashing PreRooted firmware via XZDR recovery. (TWRP preferrable) and maintain Root&Recovery&Xposed, but Tablet Kat won't work. Though it's creator promised to adapt it to LP.

Actually yes, the rom is one of the smoothest on device. Also there is a slight performance boost (see Antutu or Quadrant), because of the good optimization.
Xposed and many modules like Gravity Box are working good. So i see no reason to stay on older ROMs like 4.3 or .4.4.x.

By unlocking he will wipe TA partition with DRM keys which is unrecoverable. Furthermore, unlocking bootloader doesn't give you access to recovery cause Sony devices don't have stock recovery like Nexus or Samsung, so he will need to flash recovery to FOTA partition or use kernel with built-in one.
So instead, it's easier and safer to install XZDR recovery on bootloader locked Sony stock rooted ROM.
Also from it you can install Stock PreRooted ROM (like .454 or .222 or whatever you like ROMs), so you will keep root and bootloader locked at the same time.
So, your advice is a bit obsolete.

Nope there is no Marshmallow Kernel for the Z2 which supports QC2.0. The developer of this Kernel told me he's working on it but ain't shure if it really works. But this kernel is in my opinion the best for Android Marshmallow! It enables FastCharge (not as fast as QC2.0 but faster than normal) and has a new hotplug driver called "fast_hotplug". The new driver makes your phone even on low cpu frequences smooth and fast! I am using my z2 at 300-1200MHz with fasthotplug enabled and it seems to be as smooth as on max. Cpu performance! If you want a custom kernel you should really try this one. Another advantage is the twrp 3.0.2.0 recovery on UB, slightly overclocked GPU and CPU for performance like the Z3 and the option to undervolt the cpu to make your battery last longer and let the phone stay cool even WHILE playing games like GTA SA or Modern Combat 5! The breathing notification led bar is another nice feature! Really good and stable kernel. The developer is working on newer versions with new features!

But you can flash Jacko's v5 zip which was made for locked lollipop devices! It boosts the charging process a bit and may be useful. Don't forget to backup before flashing these kind of things, because if the flashing process fails because of some reason(for me it worked like charm) your phone might get VERY VERY HOT while charging! So backup your system+boot+cache and everything will be fine!

Could you describe what you do to z2 was cold while playing games
I'm on LB.
I've successfully flashed everything and it worked.
Than I've realized I forgot to flash TWRP image. So I went through downgrade and flashing everything again and flashed newest TWRP.img. I got only choice - "Kernel partition".
After that the phone died and flashed only red upon connecting the cable. I've managed to get the red-blinking device to fastboot and flash 5.1.1 again.
What are the correct steps to get working recovery on this locked 6.0.1?
thanks for help!
I had several samsung phones overall past years . After short time I always root them or flash custom software. Recently I switched from my last modded S5 to S8 plus and.. this phone is working great ! One of the best samsung so far. And here is the problem. I dont want to loose current stability/performance of the phone because its working fine, however I would need few addons that may impact on the software:
This changes are:
- Add Viper4Audio (eventualy beatAudio) - its a must
- Add google HDR camera
- Add modded S8 camera with higher bitrates for recording
- Optional: remove some of the bloatware. Currently I can only disable them, but there are not necessary for me.
+ I dont want to lose finger scanner.
Thats really all I need.
Based on the list above it seems I should at least root the phone, flash twrp to install cameras, custom kernel for permissive mode (V4A)? and maybe just a custom firmware to remove bloatware.
I have a question , if you could help me: What should be my steps to archive above points with minimal possible impact on software (like flash twrp install apps and then get back to samsung bl) ? Or is there a known custom software that has miminal changes but allows me to perform above tasks ?
Im using Samsung S8+ exynos European version.
