Note 7 survives 1000ft drop!!! - T-Mobile Note 7 Guides, News, & Discussion

good to know I have a phone capable of this!!!

Impressive, I would've expected more damage and it to be non functioning, of course I would've thought that of any phone. I wonder if the iphone 7 would survive even a lil.

don't get to excited,my first note 7 fell out of my pocket while getting out of a car, between 1 foot to 6 inches off the ground, cracked the front screen from the edge out to the center of the screen and killed the phone. It had an edge to edge screen protector and case with the thick bumper edges. Good thing the recall happened when it did. 2 days later my brother dropped his on the driveway and completely shattered the back of the phone.
Not knocking my note 7,but this is the first device I ever owned that is this fragile,I don't even think wrapping my phone in bubble wrap will keep it safe.

My note 7 fell out of my hands about 8 inches from the ground while at the pool one day right after the recall was announced. I picked it up and entire front screen was cracked. I haven't gone back to the Note 7 because of how fragile it is! Sticking with my S7edge, seems much stronger!

i did a drop test and posted it on youtube, 50 + drops to the note 7 still working little roughed up however it works, iPhone 6s 5 drops it stopped working....

I would assume the IPhone can survive a 1k ft drop because of the aluminum case!

Not many glass made products can survive an 8ft drop unscathed! I assumed this before purchasing a glass phone!

A: the s7/edge casing built pretty much the same
B: I used s7 edge as a loaner before I got my note replacement, besides being about the same physically, the features suck in comparison. Couldnt get rid of the s7 fast enough...

No need to wonder how the iPhone does.

Yeah that screen was hosed! I wish they didn't place it inside a cup of liquid, for a fair comparison between the N7 and iPhone drops.

Nexus S Build Quality

I love my Nexus s. While it isn't covered with glass or aluminum this phone can stand a beating. For a year and a half I've had my nexus while my friends around me have dropped and cracked iPhone screens left and right.
People might not like it because of the plastic-y feel, but if my phone can shake off a direct face fall off of the top bunk onto hardwood flooring I am a very happy guy. Congrats Samsung! Thanks for making an amazing phone still going strong today! Any stories of endurance you guys care to share?
Can't count the number of times I forgot the phone was on my lap, stood up and heard that THUD that stops your heart, only to see that it's perfectly fine
Mines fell more than once. Most damage is on the battery cover(scratches), with a new back cover my phone might be close to mint. Using a case mostly now with no screen cover.

I also dropped my phone quite a few times, yet no dents were found.
Only small scratches on the back cover, which were probably caused by me getting my phone in & out of my pocket.
Yes, it's plastic, but it's quite durable in my opinion.
After having my Nexus S for over an year, it's still as good as new. It only has a few almost invisible scratches on the back cover.
I haven't dropped the phone yet, but the PO dropped it a few times, as there are dents on the body, but nothing out of the ordinary. EVERY person I know with an iPhone has a cracked screen. Hahaha. I like my NS, but I still say HTCs builds are a bit more rugged. It was just weird coming from a G2, which is much heavier, to a thinner and much lighter phone.
i'd say samsung makes phones with the highest build quality but design/premium feel goes to htc.
How about broken power button?
Sent from my Nexus S using Tapatalk 2
My Nexus took a REALLY bad beating the other day... I let my friend use it to make a quick call, as they handed it back to me it dropped on rough, concrete floor from a good metre and a half up. Although my screen is perfect, the bezzle has missing chips in a few areas... It hurts to look at it. I'm stuck using a case to hide them now...
Nexus S (GSM i9020a)
GummyNex (1.2.0 - 4.0.4)
Matrix Kernel (BFS - 19.5)
Ondemmand (1000/100)

I had to get my Nexus replaced after the power button quit working.
Other than that, I'm happy with the build quality if this phone. I have dropped it a couple of times which resulted in some dings on the surrounding plastic but that's it.

I was running across the street with my NS in my front pocket and I jumped onto the sidewalk and my nexus flew outta my pocket like a slingshot.... I almost cried. But when I picked it up it was spotless
My screen is totally cracked. I dropped it once and then sat down on something. It was in my back pocket. Im almost to the point of buying the Galaxy Nexus.

I see people with their smartphone in their back pocket all the time... WHY???
You use your ass to sit, what do you think is going to happen to your phone?
^ yep I never understood that lol. When you sit on your phone your phone is basically under the pressure of half of your body weight, something's bound to crack >.<

Times you dropped your phone (possibly in water) and it was totally ok

So,
I've dropped my NS4G countless times, and twice into water fully submerged. I freaked out every time, and when it was in water I wiped it dry and checked the battery water-indicator. Nothing, no change, no damage. This phone is a beast when it comes to physical trauma at least for me.
Anyone wanna share their stories? Or maybe horror stories of how easily it broke.
I'd say that was pure luck. My Sony Xperia Play digitizer stopped working after I applied wet screen protector (never going to use those again).
But the Galaxy S and its variants are one of the most durable phones by Samsung, it has gone downhill since. I would not recommending dropping an S3.

I'll keep that in mind my dad just picked up the S3, he's lookin at Otter cases though .
My phone fall from around 1 meter into concrete, the top left corner was the first to hit the ground.. I got some marks on the plastic but that's it. Fortunately nothing major happened, although my heart stopped for a second when I saw it falling xD

Deep into the water a d on the floor many times. Some traces around the plastic but alive.... no way I cannot find an excuse to buy a gnex lol

I've only dropped my NS4G once. Standing up in the restroom it fell out of my pocket onto the tile floor. No damage, but probably due to the TPU case I was using that day.
However, being in the consumer electronics retail workforce, I can honestly say that I've installed over 200 invisible shields on phones and tablets. Out of those, only one damaged the product. Wouldn't you know it, it was a friend's phone, but it was also about 2 years old at the time and had been dropped, therefore the edges of the screen were no longer sealed. Since she paid for the service the store replaced her phone.

I went swimming with my Nexus S back in July. I was is the water 10-15 minutes before I realized it was in my pocket.
Once I realized my stupidity, I went in and laid my Nexus S on a towel with the cover off and the battery out. I let it bake in the sun for about 4 hours then put it back together. It has worked great ever since.
I was actually a little disappointed. I thought this would be my excuse to get a Galaxy Nexus. Nope, can't find any excuses to get rid of my Nexus S Great phone!

I dropped mine in the toilet XD I was doing number one and was playing music. I was really into the song and didn't wanna pause it and put it in my pocket so I just held it between my shoulder and my cheek but then I dropped it lol. I quickly put my hand in the toilet to get it out, washed it THOROUGHLY and put it in a cup with rice. Everything was fine except for the speaker. 24 hrs later it fixed itself though
Survived a torrential downpour.
Day 1: it charged but didn't indicate it was charging with charger, no USB functionality.
Day 2 indicated it was charging with charger - no USB functionality After 3 days it was fully functional.

had my nexus s 4g drop from... oh Id say 35 feet onto a metal nob. no- it did not survive. But I gotta say the glass is super thick, so thought the screen might have made it, but nope. $190 ebay bucks later and Im back with my NS4G
I dropped my Nexus S a couple of times from jeans pocket height unto rough garage floors. Aside from minor nicks and scratches in the bezel, phone still functions normally.
Oh yeah and I'm disappointed as well for not getting my excuse to get a GNex.

Dropped twice into water
Dropped once and then took it out of water, very scared, and then pulled off the battery. Use a cold hair dryer for 30 minutes to dry it. Turned it on. Some weird functionality. No Speaker phone, no phone speaker phone.
Left the phone hopeless but tomorrow it was ok!

So much for Gorilla Glass 3! Any help?

I am sick to my stomach. My new phone (3 days old) just dropped about a foot or so and shattered the screen unbelievably.
My Atrix took half a dozen drops like that (and from higher) and never cracked. What a frickin' joke this so-called Gorilla Glass is!
Is there a reasonably priced way to replace the screen? The phone still works but it looks like total crap.

Found a screen replacement kit with everything needed for $20 delivered on Amazon.
http://www.amazon.com/Screen-Replacement-Samsung-ECO-FUSED%C2%AE-Microfiber/dp/B00DUR2GZM/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top
Paid $3 extra for overnight air (Prime membership, ftw!) and I will have it Tuesday.
I understand it is VERY painstaking job to replace it, but plan on watching some Youtube videos first.
Already had a case coming that should be here the same day so this will NOT happen again.

I had this happen a few months ago, but mine smashed the digitizer as well. Cost me $250 to fix and replace. I can give you a contact if you're interested.. I'm in Melbourne.
Let's not blame the manufacturer for your clumsiness. There are millions of people who use this phone and probably have dropped it too without breaking the display.

3 times in a week or so....
Might wanna try holding on a little tighter
Dont think i've ever dropped the s4 and not even a scratch on the screen although the S-view cover helps to grip it i think. The olephobic coating has worn away now and it gets grimey which is annoying.
The s2 got dropped on concrete and on a gravel path when throwing a stick for the dog. Survived OK
The thing I am wondering about, having watched several videos, is that they are all almost completely dismantling the phone before replacing the glass.
Check me on this, but the glass screen is NOT connected to any of that stuff.
If I was replacing the AMOLED/digitizer I could see all that being necessary.
However, once the battery, sim and sd cards are out, why not just go ahead with the removal of the glass?
Anybody done it that way?

Note 3 Screen is basically indestructible from Phonearena

Check out these drop test done from PhoneArena...Post is old.. But new to if you haven't seen this yet.
What baffles me about this new glass as it seems to scratch very easily though in my opinion, already have some little scuff up marks from being in my pocket.

It's a good thing, too. Mine took a nasty spill and I just got some nicks on the front bezel. :good:
Though the iPhone 5S is not that bad still it'snote 3 we trust! Strong, beautiful, durable, functional, feature-packed, fun, more than a companion, affordable and above all, the hope to smart phone evolution especially the note series.

You know what..your exactly right.....So strange you say that..I Actually have a small section on my screen where it looks like a scuff mark..I took a magnifying glass and looked more closely and it looks like the coating is gone?? Wth lol...Called at&t and getting a replacement and ordered a tempered glass .3 thick one iff ebay..ordered 2 incase I mess it up..they were 15 a piece putting them my replacement phone soon as it arrives..
I'm glad that the phone is holding up pretty well in tests, but I'm still definitely not taking the risk of not having a case on it. My note 2 dropped from below pocket height onto asphalt for me, not even face first, and spiderwebbed completely, even taking away lots of touch sensitivity. Not risking that again!
Reminds me of the old yellow and black Nextel we used to dent the walls with to show how tough it was, One of the techs actually heaved it through 2 thickness of 5/8" sheet rock. The battery cover popped off and the battery fell out. But as John Cameron Swayze used to say, it kept on ticking.
Dropped mine one foot. Hairline crack. I am now a gorilla glass non-believer.

They could say the freakin screen is made of highly reflective aircraft aluminum. Don't make a difference to me! I'm still putting a case and screen protector on it! I'm using the moshi visor xt. It was what the att store had the morning it came out. It's a nice screen protector but it itself scratches and scuffs. However when the screen is on you can't see any of them. I love my big HD display! Until the time comes that the screens are indestructible I will be protecting mine!

I agree....Like I said above for some reason these screens scuff so easy it's almost like a coating comes off (happened to me) I ended up sending it back for another one and soon as it came I instantly threw on a Tempered Glass off ebay for 16 bucks....and put it on in a steamed room like they say...And sure enough its dust free..and the glass protector feels so smooth and no loss in touch responsiness even with spen, Good idea to grab a Tempered Glass protector...helps alot
I've broken both the Note 2 and Note 3! Guess I'm just unlucky.

Dropped it yet?

Like a lot of people I'm suddenly debating an edge but I'm worried about losing a rim of aluminum or plastic around the screen. I don't do cases and do drop my phone on concrete around twice a year but have never broken anything, am I right in guessing that edge screens lose a lot of durability without a case?
Dropped mine twice, both times onto my Kitchen floor (stone). Not even a scratch, much to my surprise.
Haven't found a case I like yet, and I'm insured, but will eventually get a flip cover I think.
drop it in the toliet 2 times on wooden floor, looks the same as before when i buy it.
That's sweet to hear, thanks!
Dropped my on kitchen floor yesterday thankfully not a mark on it !!
I've had mine for over 2 months, and it's in mint condition. You learn early on that the thing is a bit of a tank, but still manages to be well-manufactured with a premium feel. I've had a few drops thag were hard to look at, but a spray-adhesive screen protector and a flimsy TPU case bought online have protected the phone from any cracks or scratches.
i watched a drop test on youtube of this phone a while back vs an iphone, and although ymmv compared to the video, it did seem like the S6 was pretty tough, it took dropping the phone from around 10feet high before the glass smashed on back or front! I was very impressed.
I want to also highlight how I've gone without a case for the few months I've had this phone, and there isn't one scratch to be seen! Yes it is a fingerprint magnet, but I seriously thought that the back of the phone would look awful pretty quickly, but it's just pristine!
Dropped mine again in the kitchen again no damage thankfully.

Without a good case; this thing is so painful to hands, i mean sharp rear lines. After a long surfing on the hand, it is giving cramp. [emoji51]
And sending an another post. Why?
Because I can..
Yes I dropped mine onto a beer can on the floor which still had some beer in it, this made sure the can did not move. The result of the 3ft fall? the pixels at the impact point are completely knackered, so will need to claim on the insurance when it comes to selling it for the Note 6, as I imagine the phone is probably a write off as it is the screen as well as the glass. Not sure I think much of this Gorilla Glass!
I owned the xperia z and z3 and never managed to crack these once. On the three occasions I dropped my s6e+ it resulted in damage. Why buy an expensive beautiful glass phone to put it in a plastic case?
yep yesterday camera len broken. looks like a right pain to do and looks like camera its self looks damaged too.
