I'll start with the most obvious. When you connect your G4 to your PC via USB, it doesn't automatically go to file transfer mode. You have to pull down the indicator in the notification bar to do that. Select "USB file for charging", then select the option "File transfers" as shown in the attached screen shots. Apologies in advance if you've already done this.

Hi,
I am pretty new at this. I have rooted my Fire and installed TWRP. Now I would like to install CM7. I copied the folders 'Update-wipeall' and 'gaps-gb-20110828-signed' to my Kindle as in the video but when I get to 'install' in TWRP I don't seem to be able to select either file. When I touch the folder, it opens displaying the files inside, and nothing is displayed in the selection area like in the video. What am I doing wrong? Everything else including backup seems to work fine so I know it's me at fault.
Any help appreciated.

Tap on the zip you want to install and TWRP will display the selected filename in the lower left corner of the screen.
I have tried this but it doesn't work for me. Nothing is displayed.

you copied the extracted folders ?
you have to copy the zip files !
I downloaded them on my Mac, maybe it unzips as it does it. Then I have been copying the folder to my windows machine. I will try downloading directly to my XP laptop.
Thanks,
bbc0
Ok, I downloaded the file zip file to my windows machine, copied it to my KF and installed CM7 which works very well however, now when I connect the KF to my computer, it does not go into the 'connection mode' but stays in CM7. Have I done something wrong?

Same happens to me - CM7 doesn't switch to USB mode automatically (and I haven't found any settings where you can change this behaviour).
You need to expand the status bar, click on the "USB/select to copy files to computer" entry and turn on usb storage.
Thanks, I thought it was just me messing up as usual.......
Dont forget about ADB folks... those three letters can pull and push pretty hefty images to and fro your device.
adb push name_of_rom.zip /sdcard/*
What is the benefit of using ADB rather than just moving files around using windows? I know there must be one but I don't know enough about it yet to judge.
I use adb when I don't have time to troubleshoot other things, or as androidcues said, very large images. Also, your problem with the original zips is that you needed to disable "Open Safe Files After Downloading" in Safari
good that it's working now !
with adb you can do a lot more as copy to sdcard
you can copy to system, install apps, edit permissons, change bootmode ...
use the search function if you want to know more
please mark the subject of the topic (edit first post) to [Solved]
Thanks to everyone. I feel like I am beginning to start to understand this stuff........kinda!
Hi,
I just noticed very strange behavior of my Nexus 4 and my Windows 8.1 Laptop, when I'm looking at my 'sdcard' directory on phone using Root Explorer or ES File Explorer. For example I have some files in my Download folder, when I' deleted them, they appear to be gone forever. Folder properties says there are only for example 4 files - 14Mb, but then, when I connect my phone to my Laptop with USB cable, and check the same folder I see those deleted files, and folder properties says there are more files taking more space... I don't know what's causing that, and i think it's really strange... I'll attach some screens to show you what i mean.
I'm sorry that screens are not in English but you should be able to figure out what i mean:
This is what I see on my Laptop:

This is what i see on my Phone:
View attachment 2356455 View attachment 2356456
After you delete the file on the phone, you need to let "media scan" run so it can update the files index, only then connect it to your computer, so the changes will be reflected. This is done automatically if you just wait a while or reboot the phone and give it a few minutes to scan.
If you delete files from the phone while you have the phone plugged in, it won't get update soon enough. If you delete the files from the computer then more than likely it will get updated on the phone aswell.

Thanks, now it all makes sense
What the title says. It was working with no fuss on M but since upgrading to N I'm having issues. The android transfer app opens when I pull down on status bar and switch to file transfer option but then it stalls out immediately after dragging the folder to my desktop.
Ive tried rebooting, and disabling/enabling debugging.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Edit-actually I now realize it copies files fine. It only gets stuck transferring my twrp backup...throws error unable to transfer boot.emmc.win
If this makes sense to anyone please let me know. That's literally the only file I need to transfer.
This is a totally n00b question. I have been able to do this with all of my other phones . With this one, I plug it in and get two drives that show up on my laptop (Debian), one with a lot of numbers and the following files inside:
adb_config_Linux_OSX.sh
AndroidFileTransfer(OSX).dmg
autorun.inf
OnePlus_setup.exe
OnePlus_USB_Drivers_Setup.exe
The other is called OnePlus with nothing inside.
I can't copy SuperSu's zip file to either of them or rename the files I listed above. I don't get any errors. There's just no option to paste as if they're read-only.
Haha, I feel so stupid. I guess on my previous phones the default when I plugged my phone into my laptop's usb was MTP, but on 1+ it's charging. I just had to open up "developer options" and scroll down to "Select USB Configuration" and choose "MTP (Media Transfer Protocol)." Now everything shows up, and I can paste the SuperSU zip file. This video helped me: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yKeVp2XN-1c
I'm still wondering about those two drives though. If anyone has any insight or can link to another resource, I'd appreciate it.

Don't think anyone is going to want to help you when you start your messages with things like "did you not read"
Anyway, I'm no expert and you probably already tried these things but:
- try reflashing twrp
- try a different usb port and cable
- try restarting both your phone and computer
- try using a different computer
What kind of files are you trying to transfer and how large are they? I believe there is a 4GB size limit on files you can transfer via USB with Android's file transfer protocol. If that's not your problem you might want to try a different USB port and if that doesn't work a different cable.
Either the file is to large or your cable is jacked. Change the cable and use ADB push instead of MTP
