Root Nexus 6p with Android 7 & File-based Encryption? - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all!
Just a quick question ( I did search the forum, sorry if I missed it), can you encrypt a Android 7.0 with file-based encryption? If so, how?
I have tried to use Nexus Root Toolkit, but each time it fails when transferring the SU zip over. I cannot copy the file over manually through MTP, I see folders with jumbled names (So I'm guessing the write-ability is encrypted too?)
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Gordon

I am encrypted and rooted. Works fine
When u have an unlocked bootloader, u need to flash TWRP, boot to it, then Flash SU 2.77+

[Q] rooting and unlocking nexus 7

guys...I am not really a noob, I have experience with many devices, and now I bought a nexus.
yesterday I started my journey with a g-experience device trying to do some stuff with the nexus 7....
I unlocked the bootloader with the nexus toolkit...pretty easy!..but I'm stuck at this point...
I tried to root the device, but the toolkit says that there is no permission for that, then it installs busybox and the operation finishes....
so, the other way is to root from recovery...installed both cwm and twrp but the device boots on the stock recovery, and I can't rename the recovery files because I don't have permissions for that, I can't mount system on r/w...
then I tried to flash via adb comands, but nothing...I can't boot from a temporary recovery, I can't do nothing...
can someone help me please? :good:
EDIT: I solved flahing the old bootloader and rooting with nexus root toolkit.
close this please

ADB Sideload SuperSU on encrpyted phone

According to the following post, I should be able to gain root on my encrypted phone.

Yes, decryption is broken right now. On all versions of TWRP available, that support Oxygen OS 3.x.x, decryption is non-functional.
I have a workaround for flashing zips with an encrypted phone:
Boot into recovery, flash SuperSU over ADB Sideload, reboot phone.
You now have working root. Any zips you want to flash, place them in /system/media folder.
I use Root Explorer for this. When you boot back into recovery, mount /system and navigate to /system/media folder.
This way you can still flash all zips you want without decryption.

But I am having issues. Most notably, ADB does not recognize my phone unless I connect while in the OS or in stock recovery. If I connect while using any custom recovery (I've tried Hybrid and a few versions of TWRP), ADB does not list my phone when I run ADB devices. It's also very wonky trying to get stock recovery back on my phone afterwards, but that's a different issue.
While attempting to flash SuperSU when using stock recovery, the command sends the file and the phone begins the "update". It runs for about a second and then I get a "Installation Failed" message on my phone's screen. I've tried many different versions of SuperSU.
My current setup is the latest OOS (3.0.2) and stock recovery. The device is encrypted. My bootloader is unlocked, but I do not have root.
Could someone please help me out here? I have to have encryption on the phone for my work, but I really want to have root as well. Being able to customize my phone is why I went with OnePlus, but it's not proving to be any better than my Samsung Galaxy S4!!! Please help!

[GUIDE][Android N]How to flash ZIPs on encrypted partition with Android N Preview

Hello guys,
As you probably know, TWRP can't (yet?) write on encrypted partitions, so if you use a passcode or Nexus Imprint, while on Android N Preview, TWRP won't start at all and will leave you unable to flash ZIP files.
I found a workaround - maybe it was well known, but I couldn't find anything about that, and I'm excited it works!
Install Android N Preview (you can use the included .sh file or whatever, but you can flash anything!).
Don't boot yet - and if you do, don't set any passcode. Go to the boot loader.
Flash TWRP as usual.
Run Recovery. TWRP will execute and will load successfully.
Install SuperSU Beta from TWRP. TWRP supports MTP mode so you can load the SuperSU ZIP file directly from recovery!
Once it's done, reboot! You can now encrypt your device as you wish.
Install FlashFire.
FlashFire will be able to install ZIP files without running the "standard" recovery mode. It does not reboot the device so the partition doesn't get unmounted.
Give it a try! It seems to work for me, I installed the AdAway fix and the new Google Nexus launcher and it worked flawlessly!

TWRP Asking for Encryption Password After Unlock/Root/LineageOS install

Hi all,
So its been a long time since i've been in the rooting game, Last dine i did it was on my Sprint Evo 4G :x
I got ahold of a Le Pro3 LEX727. I was able to unlock the bootloader, flash TWRP (3.1.1-0), Install LineageOS 14.1 (20170707 Nightly) and SuperSU (2.82 Flashed from Zip) and everything is working. The issue is that whenever i boot into Recovery, its asking for an encryption password. This prevents me from mounting my storage (aside form a Flash drive attached via USB OTG) Making Backups, and flashing updates. Does anyone have experience with this? I've searched the forums and cant seem to find a clear answer on how to remove the encryption.
If you can boot into the system normally, then set a PIN and set it to require on boot. Then when you go into recovery that PIN should work to unencrypt. I haven't been able to remove encryption but that's how I got around it.

I'm looking to root, but am not looking to flash any new roms.

I am looking to gain root on my new G5 Plus that I just purchased today. I was able to unlock the bootloader. I am looking to try to avoid modifying anything in /system (something that TWRP does by default if I'm not mistaken) and would like to gain root access.
I am unable to do this in TWRP because it is not able to read the internal storage.
I am not able to do this through Magisk because I am not able to find the default boot.img file for patching.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
download the stock rom, and get boot.img file from it.
I got this to work by booting into TWRP, leaving the system read-only, and then flashing Magisk followed by Elemental X 2.02.
Also I used ADB sideload since the internal storage will not mount without formatting the data in TWRP.
Taking OTAs should be super easy by just reflashing the stock boot image.
