So anybody want to enable adoptable storage on a usb drive just like the shield TV? Its really simple
All thats needed is ROOT and terminal, adbshell works too. Just run this command as root
sm set-force-adoptable true
And your good to go
Here are some screens below
Tested on stock systemless root shield tablet k1 on 1.4 firmware
PS: Tablet will soft reboot after running command but after that everything should be fine and you can format your usb drives as adoptable storage

Hi folks.
I've connected an external hard disk seagate 1TB (stdr1000101) using an OTG cable and I can read it just fine running Paragon NTFS/HFS+.
1. How can I share that hard disk over wi-fi?
I want to use note 3 as a streaming device while it is being charged wirelessly.
I intend to serve media to my shield tablet and a smart tv using note 3 instead a pc or router with usb port.
2. How can I write files on that hard disk in NTFS from android 4.2.2 FAT?
I just can't write anything on it from android. root explorer and es explorer plots 'permission denied' no matter how I set the permissions.
Paragon is running on android's enforced mode. I could not set to permissive mode using it or using wanam. I really don't know if that matters to the write permissions.
I'll appreciate any directions to it.
Thanks.
Hi
Somehow when i connect a 16GB USB stick to my note 3 via an OTG cable it shows
1. USB connector connected
2. USB mass storage connected
then immediately
3. USB mass storage removed safely
so i cannot see anything from my USB device connected via an OTG cable
for instance my 16GB sandisk USB stick is not mounted anymore
it used to work with 4.3.xxx but not with the latest update of 4.4.xxx
also Air Droid can't write anymore so it's useless
my USB stick is ntfs formatted, would that be an issue?
i have Paragon exFAT, NTFS & HFS+ installed but it says it has no root access, i have the stock rom and not rooted. it used to work with 4.3 but now with 4.4 it does not work any more
thank you

NTFS will not work on android. Format your usb to exFat or fat32, or read this
http://blogs.bu.edu/mhirsch/2013/12...r-sharing-usb-flash-thumb-drives-and-usb-hdd/
actually i cannot format my flash, it's full and i don't want to loose the data
thanks anyway
Erhm copy files to PC,format stick and copy back The files?
Respect!
thanks, that would work if i'd had a computer with me. i'm away from home and was hoping i can mount my usb stick. is there a solution that does not require root access?

Not that i know of.
You can try to install the USB Host Diagnostics and check what is happening, on this app the root is optional.
i have no doubt that the USB works but the ntfs file system cannot be mounted directly by the OS so it unmounts it immediately after connection.
so my question still remains, is there a way to mount an ntfs file system without having root access?
thanks
So i have a Nexus Player with Marshmallow 6.0 intalled (rooted). I have 2 usb sticks (16Gb & 32Gb) both are SanDisk USB 3.0 Sticks. Both are formatted using the Nexus Player "Storage & Reset" option.
With the latest ES File Manager and SuperSU i try to create certain folder within the USB sticks, but every time it says: "Please choose the root directory XXXXXX of ext-SDCard to grant ES permission to operate". I have StickMount installed and gave it grant permissions with SuperSU. Did not do any good..
From research on the internet i understand that marshmallow no longer allows external sd card nor USB sticks as external storage?
Is there a way to fix (bypass) this?
Did a search on this, but unfortunately without any success..
Both USB's are recognized when i start up ES File Manager, but as soon I want to create/copy a folder to one of the USB stick, is says sorry action failed.
ALso tried to start Root explorer from within ES File Manager but again it says: "Sorry, test failed. This feature cannot run on your device".
Anybody?
I would like to know this as well. I currently use two 1TB hard drives on my NP on 5.1.1. It would be really nice to be able to update to 6.0, but the last time I tried that I could not get my drives to work.
Not sure if this is a solution you are looking for, but I am my Nexus Player on Marshmallow 6.0. I have a 5 TB usb drive attached to my Netgear R7000 router. I have successfully network mounted (over wifi) my drive and all apps see it natively. No need to use the Nexus Player USB port. I wrote these instructions a little over a year ago and they still work for Android 6.0
Just received a nvidia shield , updated to marshmallow I cant seem to access my external USB from within kodi or any emulator app I can see the USB within es file explorer does the shield allow access to the USB from within apps im trying to run things movies, music from the external USB stick but I can locate it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Ok so the marshmellow update killed the ability to use external storage from kodi .
In order to use external storage from within an app 'besides a file explorer like ES" you need to root the console and install stick mount.
Ive rooted my device.I installed adoptable storage with Root Essentials.I get the screenshot below under "Storage".
Ive migrated data but its such a small amount only 250mb or so of data.
Whenever i install an app it goes onto "Internal Storage".Once close to the 8Gb i get all warnings that there isnt enough space available.
What is the point of Adoptable Storage?
I believe Samsung has disabled most of Adoptable Storage functionality... Of you are on an S7 or S6 you can try these comands trough ADB from a computer.
1. Unmount the SD but don't pull it outbof the phone
2. In ADB write and hit Enter after each command:
adb devices
Next>>
sm list-disks
Next>>
sm partition disk:[ put here exactly what list-disks shows] mixed [percentage you want to keep as normal SD card. The rest is adoptable. Example: mixed 75 (will let 25% of SD storage adoptable, never choose 0!)]
3. Unplug device
4. Reboot the phone
5. Now your SD card is both Adoptable and Portable!

If this does not work, you might need a custom ROM that is on 6.0 and is based on AOSP. Try Ressurection Remix 6.0 or Cyanogen13.1 by NickVerse. I recomment CM as it has really few bugs (camera doesn't work, you have to use Snapchat, Messenger or Retrica) and is reallt stable.
Have fun! : )
