Did I just hard brick my phone? - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

I was on efficient rom 3.3 and wanted to update to 3.4 but I was on some older versions of bootloader and modem so I wanted to update them first before moving to efficient rom 3.4. So I downloaded the BPHJ BL and CP for 935F, opened Odin and successfully flashed the files from download mode, it said the flash was successful and the phone attempted to reboot (as it normally does after an Odin flash), and now it's stuck at the Samsung logo with a red "recovery is not seandroid enforcing" in upper left corner. I try to boot into download mode by volume up+power+home button, the phone tries to do it but it gets stuck again at the same screen. If I plug my phone to the PC now, Odin doesn't even recognize it, it doesn't say added or anything, it's like the phone is not even connected.
I know I flashed the correct files because they are for the 935F (exynos international - my phone).
How the hell did this happen? Is the phone dead? Can I try anything else?

You have to get into download mode, otherwise it's normal that ODIN doesn't see anything.
Keep trying to get into DL mode. I've read several times here that people had the same problems with getting into DL mode while being stuck in a bootloop, but eventually succeeded after a lot of tries.

I try to but it's just not working. I press vol up + power + home, the screen goes black for a second and then the Samsung logo appears again with the same error.

also i think u have to reflash through twrp the no-verity-opt-encript 2.1 zip. when flash different bootloader.

Download mode is vol DOWN + power + home.
New bootloader also required newest version of TWRP.
So after going into download mode flash the newest TWRP and that's it!.

Yes the vol up was a mistake, I know up is for recovery and down for download mode. I tried booting into download mode and I still can't do it. I opened this up in the efficient rom thread and yes, I ran into this problem because I wasn't aware I needed the latest twrp version.
Anyway, I try booting into download mode by vol down+power+home and it doesn't work. I try vol dow+power and as soon as the screen goes black I keep holding on the home button as well, without releasing vol down and power. Still not working. The screen goes but instead of booting into download mode it goes back to the Samsung logo with the seandroid enforcing error. This is the first time I can't boot into download mode.

Have you try holding vol down+home+power without release them until the download mode come up?
What I mean is that you don't need to wait for screen to go black. Just holding the button combo and phone will automatically reboot and go into download mode.

Yes, that's how I usually do it. It doesn't work. I'm thinking of going with the phone for a warranty repair but I'm worried that red seandroid enforcing error will raise questions about root. I booted into download mode a lot of times before, I know how to do it, it just doesn't work.

You're not hard bricked or you wouldn't have any thing showing on your screen.
First hold the power and volume down buttons only til it black screens then as soon as it does hold buttons for download Mode. It sometimes takes many times.
I've also read quite a few people let the phone die then plug it in to charge and then hold the buttons for download Mode.
That's how a friend of mine got his in download Mode.

Yeah I was thinking of that as well. Thanks.

Out of curiosity, if I go at Samsung now in this state, they will know for sure that the phone was rooted? Can I imply something like I tried updating with Samsung kies and now it's stuck?

seandroid enforcing error means the device can't load the security policy cuz u voided warranty
you could always say something like your kid was playing with it and it went into a bootloop or that there was an OTA update and it stoped midway and now your phone wont boot up hope for the best if they decline u goto another store to have it replaced/fixed some ppl arent knowledgeable about voiding warranty and issue a replacement

Thanks for the reply. The battery finally discharged completely and turned off the device. So from the powered off state I managed to boot into download mode from the first try. Flashed the latest twrp and everything is working fine. Topic can be closed

[Q] Strange: Boot logo stuck, no recovery mode.

Hi guys,
Been a samsung user since S2, unfortunately ive made people bring me their devices so i can polish them, if not fix.
I got an i9505 at the moment with a very strange issues:
It boots up, hangs on the boot logo.
It boots in Download Mode, but volume up button wont work, i've opened the device and yet the button was fine.
Sometimes just connecting it to the PC using USB, the device vibrates as if it's turning on, though it vibrates every 2-3 seconds. Device is Off btw.
Recovery Mode wont boot, Home Button + Volume Up + Power Button until the thing vibrates, i release the power button, and it just hangs there. Makes me doubt it is not even reaching the point where it knows where the recovery is. However, i got it in to the blueish "booting recovery..." once, but it hanged there as well.
Am clueless here, (re)searching usually brings me near the answer, but it hasnt, i hope the answers here will do it for somebody else.
Edit: since i am doing this out of pure compassion, i have no idea what is loaded inside .

Flash a stock rom base in your country mate via odin and you can download it from here http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/2/ , then once your done downloading the file, Boot into Download mode (Power+VolumeDown) , Open Odin select PDA /AP , Connect both cables (Wait until you get a blue sign in Odin)and flash away.If you encounter any issues with the firmware (Any FC, Bootloop etc)Boot into recovery mode (power+vol up),Choose to wipe/factory reset. (THIS WILL ERASE ALL OF YOUR DATA INCLUDING YOUR INTERNAL SD CARD! Then choose reboot and you should be good to go! Have a nice day
Mate, is there a way to flash through Odin without pressing the Vol Up button, cause i am not aware of that?
I cant get past the first point of download mode, to actually enter you need to press Vol up.

Hence the thread. There was no other option left.
I usually do this to gain the knowledge for future use, is this a common death for the S4. the user that had it is definitely not a flasher, what couldve gone wrong?

[Q] SM-N900W8 stuck in bootloop after flashing with odin!!!

This has probably been mentioned before...but I will try anyways. I tried galaxynote3root*dot*com/galaxy-note-3-root/how-to-root-galaxy-note-3/ but it didn't work. Then I tried CF-Auto-Root-hltecan-hlteub-smn900w8 and it put my phone in a permanent boot loop and says recovery is not seandroid enforced!!! This is my work phone so I really hope someone can help.:crying:
So it says that about recovery and then what? You must give more info.
But I'll save you the trouble.
Go into download mode and flash stock firmware and start over. Do not use cf auto root this time. Lets get your device working. I can easily help you but you must follow my direction

I don't think download mode can be messed up unless in a very serious instances.
Just to make sure, here's how to access download mode;
- remove battery and put back in but don't press power
- press Vol Down + Power + Home Button all at the same time until the warning message appears on the screen, then let go of all the buttons
- press Vol Up to enter download mode

Actually I tried DL mode right after hey_joe mentioned it just to see if I missed anything but it didn't work. I had tried it before as well but figured why not try it again. Both recovery and download modes are inaccessible. The only things I have done are the 2 processes I mentioned above, then I tried to get into DL (power, home, volume down) but no warning message came up...it just rebooted. and recovery mode (power home and up) a few times but got frustrated after it kept simply rebooting. I finally called a Telus tech support and they told me to try kies but it won't even detect the phone at all.
If I send this in will they be able see that I messed with the phone and void the warranty?

Like I said, you can easily get into download mode by using a jig so they would see knox tripped ( if yours was ) and also the custom system not to mention that when you power it on, it will show " Seandroid enforcing, etc... ). So yes I'm guessing they might charge you for an easy fix.

replace *dot* with . and it become a hyperlink. I used that tutorial and then when I restarted my phone after I saw that it didn't do anything i then did CF Autoroot. Then after everything was done I got the error and am unable to boot into download or recovery.
Try to remove battery & wait about 30 minutes.
Then put it back & press power. It works for me one week ago with the same issue.
Sorry my english
Disconnect the usb cable and then battery pull. I had the same problem. If u battery pull while thr usb cable is plugged in it is still getting power.

I had the same problem. Pull the battery out and in again and press vol down, home and powerbutton till you get in download mode. Then volume down to restart phone. It will restart as normal.
The solution of this warning for me was to try different Odin (where the box is yellow instead of blue) and install CWM recovery.

Recovery Is Not Seandroid Enforcing

I tried to root my phone S7 Edge 6.1.1 just a moment ago using ODIN and CF Auto Root. I got the PASSES! sign in ODIN but upon phone rebooting I am stuck on the Samsung S7 Edge logo screen with text in red 'Recovery Is Not Seandroid Enforcing" up the top.
At this time I am unable to turn my phone off, when I do it just turns back on and goes to the same screen. I can't get into download or recovery mode either.
Any help on how to fix would by greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Also thought I should add, my phone doesn't get registered when I connect it to my PC either, it wont show up in ODIN so I am unable to flash a stock recovery at this time.
It's trying to boot into recovery.
When you say you rooted with CF Auto Root, what did you do precisely? And did you follow Chainfire's specific instructions regarding the lack of screen output during the process?

Thanks for the reply.
I used CF-Auto-Root-zerolte-zeroltexx-smg925f.tar to root.
The steps I used was to simply put my phone into download mode and use ODIN to flash the file mentioned above. That is as far as I got unfortunately. I did this once before, a few month back when I first got the phone with no issues. I remember having to install TWRP but I couldn't remember if I did that pre-root or post-root. But I think that is where I went wrong.
Now I am unable to do anything with my phone. I can't turn it off, get into download or recovery mode. When I hold down VOL UP+POWER+HOME it just resets the phone back to the samsung logo screen.
Any ideas on what I could do?
You used the CF Auto Root file for an S6 Edge.

OH GOD. You're right. I just realized that. I was supposed to have them saved into their own folders but I guess I saved that one too the wrong folder.
So what does that mean for the life of my phone then? Is it toast or is it recoverable somehow?
What is your model? Is it the SM-G935F? If so, first things first, download the correct CF Auto Root file for your device (here) and try again. Press VOL DOWN+POWER+HOME and it should reboot into Download Mode. Then try to flash the correct file in Odin again.
These phones are very difficult to hard brick, especially with something like CF Auto Root so you should be ok.

Yes, it is a SM-G935F. Unfortunately I am unable to reboot the phone into Download Mode. When pressing VOL DOWN+POWER+HOME it just takes me straight back to the Samsung logo where it says "Recovery Is Not Seandroid Enforcing". I'm hoping that once the battery drains completely I will be able to boot into Download Mode again.
Try simply resetting it instead. Press volume down and the power key (don't press home) for around 7-10 seconds. Once it starts to reset, remove your fingers from the buttons very briefly then press volume down, home and power to enter download mode.

That hasn't worked either unfortunately.
I just found this thread from a guy having a similar problem. He just had to wait for his phone's battery to drain completely and then he was able to enter download mode again.
You shouldn't have to though. If you can get the phone to reset at all (even if it's to make another attempt to go into recovery) then providing you time it right, you should be able to get into download mode. Did keeping your fingers on just the volume down and power buttons do anything? Keep them on continuously for up to 20 seconds and see what happens. Did you say pressing vol up & home & power made it reset and try to again get into recovery? What happens if, as soon as the screen indicated it's resetting, you remove your fingers and quickly press vol down & home & power instead?
Anyway, even if you have to wait until the phone dies, getting into download will be possible eventually. Then worst case scenario would be you having to reflash stock back. Or, as would be my preference, flash TWRP then flash a custom rom zip like Superman.
Just to confirm, I take it you selected OEM Unlock in dev options?

I have never had any trouble getting into recovery or download before so I know the method. But just the properly clarify for you I will explain some of the combination I have tried without success. Bare in mind the phone is constantly turned on and idles on the Samsung logo.
I have tried:
Hold VOL DOWN+POWER+HOME, the phone resets and goes back to the logo.
Hold VOL DOWN+POWER, same as above.
Hold VOL UP+POWER+HOME, nothing happens at all.
Hold VOL UP+POWER, same as above.
Hold VOL DOWN+POWER+HOME, release and repress all on black screen, just goes back to logo.
Hold VOL DOWN+POWER, release and hold VOL DOWN+POWER+HOME on black screen, just goes back to logo.
and numerous other things like random combination to try and enter Download or Recovery mode, which have all failed.
Right now it's just stuck on the Samsung logo and staying there, taking forever to drain battery. I work in the morning so hopefully it is dead by then and I can get into Download mode.
Have already started download stock firmware in hopes that I will be able to flash it after.
Thanks a bunch for your help. If you think of anything else I might be able to try let me know!
Oh wow. 100+ attempts and I followed your last post about holding for up to 20 seconds. I was waiting ~5 seconds and releasing thinking that it hadn't worked.
Finally go into Download mode and will flash stock firmware and let you know how I go.
Thanks again! I owe you a cold one.
EDIT: Was no need to flash stock firmware. Just flashed the proper version of CF Auto Root and it worked. Again, thank you so much!
Fantastic. Hope you get it sorted.
On a side note, you have probably already tripped knox and you will have lost you OS data and possibly even what you have stored on internal storage. If so, I suggest you install TWRP, format data (you will lose everything with this but it removed encryption) and install a custom rom like Superman 1.9 from your external SD. It's better than plain stock and comes pre-rooted with plenty of other mods.

recovery is not seandroid enforcing
hello,
my S7 Edge was rooted with cf-auto-root and worked fine but after 2 monthe I've installed LBE_Security_Rel_6.1.1928_A1_DE_v5_signed and reconized the message device is not tooted.
I was not very clever and cofirmed the question "fix the root problem" I don't remember exactly the words. After that root was gone.
I've flashed the stock Fw G935FXXU1APD1_G935FDRE1APC3_DRE but I still have the message "recovery is not seandroid enforcing" after trying to root with CF auto root.
AP:G935FXXU1APD1
CP:G935FXXU1APD1

Is there any way to get root again
Any help on how to fix would by greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Simply hold down Home + Power + Volume Down for 10-15 seconds - don't release when the phone initially reboots and gives the same error, keep them held down and download mode will appear. I have to hold for 11 seconds, a strangely unrounded number.
Hello Guys I have this Same issue Yesterday....... This happens when you flash outdated CF Autoroot. CF Autoroot Updated on 25/08/2016... Download it...
Fix for Stuck in Logo Screen
Just Click and Hold ...... Vol Down + Menu + Power Keys ...... DO NOT RELEASE. IT Will Restart. DONT release. It will restart again and you will be download mode.
i found this during the rooting process. its a bit different to older samsungs on the s7 / s7edge. YOU HAVE TO KEEP HOLD OF VOL DOWN + HOME + POWER until it enters download mode, which can be 20-25 seconds

Hello, i'm trying to boot into odin mode or even to recovery mode to flash the firmware as i keep getting an error "Android Keyboard AOSW has stopped working" , but when i try to go into recovery mode with volume up + home + power button, it does not give any options and restarts automatically.
i tried to put phone into download mode to flash it with stock firmware, but it isn't booting into download mode (volume down + home + power button), when i try to boot into download mode, phone turn on automatically, not going into download mode to flash firmware..
any idea or solution to put phone into download mode??

Hold power and volume down and when it blackscreens immediately hold power and home and volume down that'll get you to download

It WILL go into download mode sometimes it takes multiple tries. When I say multiple I mean more than 3 you must keep working the buttons.
Your phone isn't bricked

When I said multiple I'm not talking about 3 or 7 times I've had to keep working the buttons for a half hour a friend of mine two hours or more.
Hold Power button and volume down and immediately at black screen hold Power and home and Volume down
Keep working the buttons
Its very stubborn and frustrating

Is Android Keyboard Aosw(?) preinstall stock keyboard?
If yes then I'm afraid your device might be not a genuine S7 but a clone.
And that will answer why you can't enter recovery or download mode with this method.
Since stock keyboard on S7 is called "Samsung keyboard".

Be sure oem unlock and usb debugging is enabled, obviously no, you know that. Power on pc, run odin and connect the phone to the cable and try. already you tried?
your installed cyanogen on the phone?
never happened to me and it is very rare

I agree. Booting into odin is ridiculously easy.
At any time You can hold:
Home+vol down+ power
And from any kind of screen it will boot into ODIN mode.
So if that doesn't work then Your device is most probably just a clone.
Okay, this has happened to me as well. Pissed me off, best thing to tell you is. You have you phone, turn it off for a couple of seconds. Position your fingers in the Vol Down + Power and hold the middle down, try holding on the right side of the middle button. It should work, I would say if it doesn't. Once it has restarted, turn it off and give it a second and try again.
Is the phone connected to a charger or computer? I've had problems with multiple phones refusing to boot into recovery while charging.

Hi, I think your right, I bought this online saying its a version from South Korea. Do you know how we can fix it?or if you have other options that would fix it?
All android phones even clones have Android Recovery.
Try this:
Turn off Your phone and press and hold VOLUME UP and then Power, when Your phone turns on (boot logo) keep holding volume up but let go of power button.
If that doesn't work then hold volume down and do the same thing as above.
Now when You hopefully booted up recovery mode, use volume buttons to go down to factory reset, press power button to confirm and then wait until You'll see something like "Factory reset complete" .
Most clones have fastboot/mtk based bootloaders so holding volume button and power button without home button should work.

I just did that and what showed is the android robot icon lying down with a red exclamation point on it and stays there and does nothing...
That's good. Now You should press either one of volume buttons or power button (just a single short press) and recovery menu should show up. And there You should choose factory reset.

A20e stuck in download mode

Hi,
I have a new a20e (a202f) out of the box.
I followed another guide to root and install twrp which turns out was wrong. I unlocked the bootloader just fine.
I have no backup, no personal boot.img or anything.
Essentially I am stuck in download mode and restarting takes me straight back to download mode.
Recovery: Error validating footer.
SW REV. CHECK FAIL (BOOTLOADER) DEVICE"
Cheers guys
What guide did you follow? You have to download your stock fw from sites like sammobile then from there you can have the boot.img and etc. Have you tried flashing stock fw using odin?
Note: Usually you flash vbmeta for footer error when you flash twrp.

It was a guide on 'unofficialtwrp.com' - I can't link things here yet.
I have since tar'ed an unpatched twrp (TWRP-3.3.1.0_A20_by_Agrim720.img) + vbmeta.img + boot.img (from https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-a20/help/boo-img-a205fxxu2asfb-t4008739), then I flashed through AP on Odin and now I think it boots past the download mode but instead it now has fuzzy dark red screen with nothing legible.
Oh bugger, I've been a class A plum.
Can I get out of this horrible mess?

Well you have to use your own boot.img from your fw, not all of use the same fw that's why, some are still on u2, u3 and u4. Maybe the boot.img you got isnt the same as your fw.
Well you can start from scratch and reflash your stock fw in odin.

Try holding volume - and power and your phone will turn off, as soon as it turns off press volume + & - and plug your usb cable that is connected to a computer.
No luck with that. It displays the message about running custom os etc and to press power to continue. So I press it and it boots to the messed up red/pink/black display.

Do you mean like the one attached? If yes you havent booted to download mode.
Try booting to recovery by holding volume + and power while you turn on the phone.
There is a option there to boot to download mode.

Yes that screen. I've tried your suggestion with volume + but that also ends up with messed up screen
Yes so currently I'm unable to get to recovery (not sure it even flashed properly), unable to get to download mode, or to get the device recognised in odin.
I'm unable to power off. The screen is blank and when I press power it flickers shortly with some black/white/red pink colours around the edges, but the screen quickly turns blank.
From this position I can only restart by holding volume - and power.
This boots to the samsung logo and then the 'bootloader unlocked' warning. No amount of button configs have proved successful so far, and then I end up back at the blank screen.
I'm happy to start from scratch. I have downloaded the stock firmware but I'm simply unable to proceed.
Aslo the device is not recognised in windows at any point.
Thanks guys

Are you sure you pressed and hold volume +&- and plugging cable before the samsung logo pops up? You have to do it quickly right after the device turns off. You shoudn't see the bootloader warning if you done this quickly and correctly.

Hello -
Please trust me when I tell you that it can be fixed. I had the EXACT same problem and drove me crazy for 24 hours. You can deffinetly fix your phone once you get to download mode.
I had the same issue where I could not turn the phone OFF it just looped back and I pushed buttons for hours to no avail... Then some one told me it WILL WORK, it is just the timing of
the button pushing, AND the USB cable plug in. Sure enough he was right. It took me alot of tries and I even took my phone apart and un plugged the battery so I could controll the power
ON / OFF better and time the button's easier. Here is what I did ...
unplug battery so phone was 100% OFF.
Plug in battery ( phone is still OFF )
Hold Vol - then Hold Power and Vol -
As soon as the power started IMEDITALY PLUG IN USB ( have USB READY to be plugged in FAST )
DONT let go of buttons ... screen will flash quickly and then Imediatly let go of power keep holding Vol -
IF you timed this right, IT WILL proced to download mode. If not, then start over again from power OFF ( step 01 )
It took me 3 tries to get it ( after 50+ tries before ) lol
Now I am not sure about the battery unplugging ... maybe you dont need to, but it mad it work for me as I could control the power ON part of this now.
Getting to your battery is not very hard and there is a you tube video on how to do it... if you need help just PM ME.
Good luck friend.
When this happened to me all I did was hold volume up and volume down. Kept cord connected to computer. Connected to device during the bootloop and boom within seconds I was in download mode. It catches it once screen goes off in between the bootloop.

Thanks you guys. In the end the battery died and then I could power up whilst holding vol+, straight to recovery and then I could flash stock rom.
Much appreciation for your help guys, it got me out of a pinch - it is my mother-in-law's new phone!
