Google now problems on head unit - Android Head-Units

Maybe I am missing something very simple. And am hoping someone can help.... I have a joying 5.1.1 headunit. I have installed google now app on it. I want it so that when I use the call contact command in google now that it will eather dial it thru the build in Bluetooth phone app.. or would dial the contact on my phone.. even if I have to install another app... I have read a lot of posts but they are all about using Google Now on my phone and using the Bluetooth to activate it... I don't want this as I want google now on the headunit for other functions too... thanks in advance

From what I gather, the problem is that the bluetooth app doesn't actually work like a Dialer app.
Normally Google will use the Dialer to push through the number. Unfortunately "Bluetooth" doesn't appear to declare as a Dialer to receive the intent.

Thanks for the reply.. is there an Bluetooth app that does decade it's self as a dialer

Want a dialer app

I'm looking for a dialer app for my urbane that I can call my voicemail and enter the password from my watch while using my Bluetooth headset so I don't have to pull my phone out. Everyone one that I've found will only initiate the call but then I have to emter the password on the phone.
Thanks for your suggestions
I am not sure but I think you are looking for this app

Try Dialer for Android Wear by DGApps. It is a launcher for an app which lets you dial a number, call a contact form your contacts or recent list on your phone. It's free on Google play.

[Q] Is there anyway to enable google search using ford mytouch/sync?

Sync is somewhat limited and the "phone" button is useless... I have never ever used it to redial a number.... Don't think I have ever redialed a number.
So is there anyway to reconfigure that button to launch google voice search and use the car mics to search?
If not, is there a way I can redial a number and launch the voice search function? Maybe somehow launch it with sync? Idk.
Tried using automation apps but none of them have a "call end" function

Thanks!
No, you can do that with mirroring or sync 3 (2016+)

Google voice is not compatible with this phone

If you configure to always use Google voice when making calls you will get an error that says call not made. If you configure Google Voice to ask you every time you make a call you will get the same error. This error also shows up in the Mate 8. Here is another thread that discusses it.

Kind of disappointing. If you want to use Google voicemail need to use Hangouts.

I agree that works, its just a little weird in work flow when compared to otehr phones where you can use the stock dialer
I cannot send MMS via Hangouts on this phone. Very frustrating some things don't quite work

Had same issue on my Nexus6 P after flashing Nougut! Flashed a custom N ROM and it worked! Some have said it's a Hangouts/N issue...
Found another issue but this is with using hangouts to make call. If you have a bluetooth device that can be used for phone calls hangouts will try to first use that device to make the call before defaulting to the ear piece. Also if you go into speaker mode you can't go back to just headset as it will yet again try to connect to that Bluetooth device and fail causing it to go back to speaker mode.
I have a Asus ZenWatch 3 and hangouts keeps trying to use this device for phone calls. Also it will try to connect if I place the call in speaker mode through hangouts and keep failing and reverting back to speaker mode.
This pretty much makes the phone useless to me. So the phone will be going back to best buy. Once Huawei fixing the stock dialer to use voice then I will come back to it

i just tested bluetooth and hangouts with my Plantronic headset and i was able to (1) initiate a call via bluetooth, (2) switch to handset, then (3) switch to speakerphone and then (4) go back to bluetooth without any problem. does your Asus ZenWatch 3 allow you to initiate/answer/conduct calls via the watch, and that's where the connection issues occurred? thanks for clarifying.
new version of Google Voice @ apkmirror site; i installed it and - so far - i can make calls via the dialer using the "Ask each time you make a call" option. using the "Use your Google Voice Number" (for all calls) option is still failing. interested to know if others using the newest GV version are having a similar experiences to me. will update if i begin having issues again.
Anyone try this new Google Voice App on the mate 9? Does it change calling with the stock dialer at all? Heres the link to download.

doi! lol sorry my bad lol. Thats great news! still pretty frustrating though. For us to rely on GV and have it not work like its supposed to is kind of worrying. Makes me concerned and update might break it.
I've been using it only for the last two days. Where it is very buggy for me is with Android Auto; I have to ask it to call on average of 3 times from the car. If I tap the button on the phone it calls, but that defeats the whole purpose of Android Auto. I'm still trying to get the phone to divert ALL of my messages, etc over to Voice. The stock messaging app duplicates the text messages. People I've communicated with on Hangouts still come through on Hangouts if they have more than one account... A bunch of reduncy that I didn't have prior to using it. I may delete it and wait for the prime time app. I'm still trying to learn the phone; I don't want to add unnecessary quirks to it and blame the phone.
I have Chinese AL00 version and using "OK Google" works with default phone. e.g. "Ok Google, call Joe". It also will start from the locked screen but you have to unlock for the phone call to be placed.

Xtrons PQ89UNVIP Google Assistant fails to call

Hello All,
I have recently bought a Xtrons PQ89UNVIP head unit. All in all I love it. However the functionality I like the most is Google Assistant but it is doing my nuts at the moment. Say "OK Google" it promps up and politely asks what it can do for me. It plays my music in Deezer, takes me places, suggests me locations, etc. Lovely. BUT,when I tell google to make a phonecall it says "making a phonecall to XXX" as it does with every other task that I ask it to do but in this case it stops there. Not sending the command to the phone. Which is strange because using the bluetooth app is no problem. I have already checked the permissions but everything is activated for google... Hope you can help me on this!
Thanks!
Most here have the same issue with Joying units. I only found this week that if I say "OK google, show me my contacts and dial xxxxx" this has so far worked every time ?

Dammit. I tried it yesterday on my way home from work and the same happened. It does bring my contacts up but again, fails to send the call command as previously.
I did contact Xtrons via their FB page and their reply was epic to say the least: "Hi, our xtrons units can't work with Google Assistant". The end.
Anybody that can throw me a bone here?

I have a different unit but this is what kind of got it working. I doubt this will work for you but worth a shot. Posted on a FB group for my unit so i can't link the video unfortunately. Its mostly unstable and still only works if the moon is in a waxing phase and I've sacrificed a flamingo.
1. Install google contacts sync service (missing on my unit)
2. Install google contacts and make sure your contacts are syncing.
3. Install google assistant if you haven't already, obviously
4. Install shortcut master
5.launch shortcut master, search for accessibility and click on Settings from the list (i had two, used the first one)
6. Set display to larger. Exit, maybe restart, i dunno
7. Attempt a voice call and in the top right corner of the google popup tap on bluetooth dialer icon (not phone). Similar to how the mtcdialer fix worked.
I found that it would open the bt dialer but not dial the number if my contact did not have country code in the number. +1-xxx-xxx-xxxx or 1-xxx-xxx-xxxx. Bone thrown...

I went and tried mine again and guess what, it didn't work. Not exactly anyway. The reason it didn't work was because the head unit had somehow lost my contacts despite it previously syncing fine with Gmail.
It did work after a fashion because my phone picked up my "OK google" dialled the number and it then went through the head unit and out through the speakers. But why my contacts are not synced is a mystery

Try installing the Google Contact Sync service. If your contacts are not showing up in the Google Contacts apps then you know its not syncing. Or make sure contact is checked under your account sync options in the setting menu.

How to use google contacts app or any other app to call directly from head unit

Hello. I recently installed an android head unit in my car. It has an application that downloads contacts through bluetooth and you can make calls from the app. But i dont like app interface and contacts are not in alphabeticall order. When i tried to use google contacts app it tries to make the call from the head unit and of course there is no network for the call. Is there a way to use another app for contacts that can actually make the call through bluetooth from my phone??

Hi,
You can use MTC Dialer for autovoice..
or you can use a different launcher like FCC Car Launcher. (you can even setup a direct call widget)
