[ROM] Opteron Android 6.0 B574? - P8lite Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
has anybody tried this rom? It's called Opteron, as far as I can understand it is supposed to be optimized in some way, I can see there are some added apps
http://www.htcmania.com/showthread.php?t=1218158
I am not entirely sure what the benefits of this one are, if it's stable, etc.
It says it has Gyroscope enabled?

It's a deodex rom. Same as sokoban's rom.

[Q] Confused - rom, kernel....

Hi,
I'm new to Android and an Acer A500 (obviously with this noob question!) and am confused with a lot of the terminology compared to the iPad (can I use that word on here ? ) I had for years.
Anyway, I flashed Taboonay 2.2 last night and re-installed all my apps again and was browsing when I read about kernels that can be flashed etc.
I've seen posts saying Harkon, Thor 3.9r3 and alsorts of other names / acronyms. Is there a 'one shot' idiot guide I can read through that explains it all in laymans terms and what rom/kernel chanegs what etc so I don't have to keep bugging you guys with stupid questions !
I'm quite happy so far, just I cant seem to find the latest .apk for snappz market as I want to search for a tweak that lets me put folders on the home screen.
As always - thatnks in advance for any help/guidance.
Cheers
posted somewhere on xda by rschenck:
"The kernel in android is essentially just a customized Linux kernel. The ROM is basically the application layer and the framework. Usually ROMs include kernels, but you can flash a different compatible kernel.
Firmware usually refers to either all the basic software on your phone (minus the apps) or the ROM, csc and modem.
You can definetly flash a custom kernel onto a stock ROM, which will improve performance a great deal even without a custom ROM. Find instructions aplenty here on XDA."
Actually for tablets: some kernels are developed for stock ROMs, some for custom ROMs.

I like your answer, a kernel is a kernel!! That is a good one. The OP asked for layman's terms so here is my attempt.
A kernel tells your device how to operate your hardware much like the CMOS instructions on a PC. So installing a custom kernel may overclock your cpu, tweak your wifi, adjust your memory usage, screen brightness, or many other options.
A ROM is the operating system with different versions currently our A500 is running Honeycomb 3.2.1 or what ever version the developer decided to tweak. Android comes in several flavors from Froyo 2.2, Gingerbread 2.3 & 2.4 to Honeycomb 3.0 to 3.2.1. Froyo and Gingerbread roms are mostly for phones and early less expensive tablets. Honeycomb was specifically written for tablets.
Custom Roms have been tweaked by a developer to remove bloatware, apps that no one uses, speed tweaks, added apps and functions, themes, and whatever else the developer can do.

hi what do you mean by "put folders on home screen ?
found an app you are happy with ?
ive not found an app that will do it yet unfortunately.
I just want to have a 'folders' on the home page which when i click it opens up with the apps inside. Similar to a PC really. So all the games are in one folder, media in another etc.

Actually the cmos talks to the kernel just like it does in any other OS. Other than that, good response
Try ADW Launcher. You can do folders, a dock bar, resizable widgets and all sorts of stuff.

There is an app in the market called FolderOrganizer and will do what you want. I don't know if it is compatible with Honeycomb or tablets so it may not show up but I had it on my phone for a while and it was a very easy way to group your apps in folders.

Not specific to slim bean, but there are a few things you have to check:
1. Is your ROM odex or deodex. The camera here is the odex version.
2. I think you will have a lot of FC trying some of the features unless you also grab seccamera.jar from the framework.
3. Many times the camera is also tied to the gallery, so you may also need that apk (and all associated files)
If you still want to try to install this and see what happens, you need to open the zip and use a root explorer app to put the two files in the system/app folder. You may also need to fix the permissions after copying. After that, restart the phone and see if it works.
EDIT:
Even with all the extra files I can't get it to work, there are probably other modifications that need to happen before it would work on a different system.
There are quite a few libraries needed (18 libarc*.so and at least 10 others), so it's not an easy port.

Thanks for the link!
Can't get it to work though, maybe it has to be a Sammy based rom?
Was kinda hoping I could port it to aosp.

The camera (as well as a number of other features such as IR Blaster, temp/humid sensors, etc.) require the touchwiz framework in order to work. This means that they will not work on ANY AOSP roms. This includes, AOKP, CM, Slimbean, etc. They will only work on roms that run a touchwiz framework.
As far as porting goes, it would require a ton of modifications require access to drivers and libraries which samsung has not made available in order to complete a port. Nothing is impossible so I won't go as far as saying it won't be done, but it will be extremely difficult and time consuming so many developers have been discouraged from even attempting this. Only time will tell if we'll ever get these things ported.
Thanks for sharing the your info on this, I won't be sitting around waiting for a port sometime soon then!

I wonder if anyone tried the camera yet on a Google Edition rom? I might give it an attempt later and see what happens.

It is ok, but the Samsung Camera app is way better.
A massive pity really... I may dump Google Edition, or perhaps find a 3rd party camera that can do the Picture-In-Picture feature.... which I love.

Need help in making Stock based ROM

Hello everyone! First of all Thank you for being here to help me. Secondly I need your help in making a new ROM based on stock ASUS ROM. As you know there are already 2-3 stock based ROMs out there, what's different here. So here's the different I want to make. Let me first tell you that I'm a newbie here and never tried my hands on making a new ROM but I know the flashing, etc. methods. Here are the features:
Would be stock 3.24.40.87 based.
No ASUS app except Launcher, Camera SystemUI and Framework, just Google's default apps (like Google calendar, Gmail, Gallery/Photos, etc. Means users can just download GAPPS and flash).
No extra bloatware. (I want it like CM13, just stock apps and user's choice GAPPS)
Network Speed Indicator (like in other stock based roms).
Xposed flashable (I'd include the like for users.
Kernel with Double Tap To Wake support (you tell me which is best and don't have that reboot bug on log calls).
No Mods or anything.
I'd like to name it "Blank" ROM.
So, I'm completely newbie here, no coding knowledge except web dev. I don't know anything about ROM building, as I said before. Now you've to tell me:
Where and how to start?
Any Development Environment required or not, if yes then what is it?
How to get going?
Links or threads where I can find relevant info or Mods.
If you think this is too much and a newbie won't be able to handle such work, and you can do this yourself, you're welcome to use this idea make make the ROM!

I am considering this smartphone. It seems there is no CM port for it and am wondering how bloated the stock Rom is.

The stock ROM is mostly original google stuff. Even RRO layers are working with this ROM if you root your device.
Only a few apps needed for the rear display are installed.
What about latest Rom?

The latest ROM is installed on my phone. Four games, 2048, sudoku, dame and chess. The yota apps for configuration, news, sports, travel, store etc. Abbyy lingo (a translator), aeroflot, cabinet (a file manager) That's it. Nothing new i think. And well if've you root the phone you could kick out any app you do not want.
Edit: The phone / ROM runs very smooth.

Are there any custom ROMs with NFC support (XT1604)? Or how would you add it in?

Hey,
So I own a XT1604 and it has NFC support. I'm bootloader unlocked and running on crDroid, but I've tried AEX and RR and none have NFC support. I'm not sure about Lineage but tbh I don't want to switch unless it's confirmed. Do you guys know any, or can I add NFC support manually?
Well nfc is hardware based....soooo...
I came here just to tell you: please, don't boast your NFC here :'(.
I don't know but I think finding the right libs in the /system/vendor folder of the stock ROM and moving them into your ROM should work, but I haven't tried it since I am on stock.
