Casting Issue - Constantly Stops, Goes to Home Screen - Nexus Player Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Literally, every single time I am casting to my Nexus Player from Google Chrome, the casting will randomly just stop and my Nexus Player will go to the home screen. The easiest way to get it back going is to go into apps and disable / re-enable the "Chromecast Android Shell". It is getting really old really fast.
I just watched Jason Bourne. I would guess I literally had to go through this close to 20 times.
Does anyone have any recommendations for how to "cast" from my Desktop (Ethernet) to my Nexus Player (WiFi)? I am currently using "Videostream", a Google Chrome App. Maybe this app is the problem, but if I don't disable / enable the casting app in the Nexus Player, the Nexus Player will not be detectible by Chrome, Videostream, etc. Well, unless I restart the Nexus Player. Which is even more of a pain in the ass obviously. (Time wise)
I have a 25ft HDMI cable which was my old way of "casting". I'd rather not go back to this, but at least I NEVER once had an issue doing it this way.

Listen to audio stream with screen off

OK so yesterday I hooked up my tablet to my stereo and pulled up the siriusxm website and was streaming from there. So everytime the screen shutoff so did the stream. I tried the app but I cant get it to work it keeps saying checking for updates. So my question is, is there someway to make the browser continue to stream with the screen off I had to set it to never turn off and it worked great but it does do a number on your battery. Any help would be appreciated.
try with dualweb, maybe.
mine streams from ghosttown with the screen off and docked and closed.
Online streams do this to me, though oddly with upnplay from my own servers, never a problem. Perhaps its a power/bandwidth setting devs put in for smaller devices need to save battery, by default.

No such problems using TuneIn Radio for Android. Continues to play, regardless of whether I tap the power button to sleep, let the sleep timeout elapse, or close the screen when docked. Also happily wakes up from sleep to play an online stream as an alarm clock.

Do you have your WiFi sleep policy set to never?
If you have it set to shutoff with screen off that might be it, not sure.
EDIT: OK I missed that you are accessing XM through the browser, yeah I think when screen goes off or when you're out of the browser
everything shut down.

Yes everytime that I have to minimize the browser for some reason the stream stops is there some kinda of work around for this. I just want to start the stream and then shut off the screen and have it still run. Yes my wifi policy is set to never

I beleive the issue is with SIRIUS. Their app is not made for honeycomb and does not work.
If you do the webpage honeycomb is set to turn off the inactive page. I noticed that I even lose audio if I switch to a different tabed browser or application. To me it appears to be a honeycomb featured mixed with a sirius application bug.
Thank God I can listen NP on my EVO 3d
Brandon
The application itself must tell the device not to sleep.
Have you ever noticed how when you install certain apps one of the permissions required is "Keep your Device Awake"?
This is why some apps keep playing when you turn the screen off. The browser however, cannot keep your Asus awake and when you turn the stream off it will stop.

I had this issue with Music, and now have it with Music Beta.
When listening to a song, when the screen timeout engages, the player will never go to the next song (but it will at least finish the current song). Probably a feature, but would be extremely nice to override that.
Changing the Wifi settings didn't seem to fix it; only removing the screen timeout did.
On the same topic, I guess, but is there a way to keep the Youtube app running in the background while using another app?
I guess another thing would be if theres a way to keep flash videos running while browsing another tab in a browser, but Opera and the stock browser don't allow that.

ok so now its getting worst decreasing my nexus 7 battery life. i need help. i switched roms and everything and it still is running whenever the screen is on. it doesnt run when screen is off or when charging which is odd..
If what you are looking for is something to play stuff from your nexus to tv bubble upnp is flawless. The only thing you have to watch is your nexus going into deep sleep. You can set it up not to do that though. I use a wdtv with it its perfect plays anything I throw at it.

I recommend trying Elixir widgets 2 to create a widget which includes auto sync and sync all. With auto sync s off let it run for an hour or so and see if this resolves it. If it does you can use sync all as a manual sync.
I´m having the same issue since yesterday, the only changes i made was, install moonreader +, virtua tennis and asphalt 7.
For me it´s the same, the Media Server is active whenever my screen is on, in fact, the CPU + Activation time of the media server is exactly the screen on time.
But i think that this only happens now...

Nexus 7 music stutter

When I play music on my nexus 7 while multi-tasking, the music stutters. Spurts
Thid problem is unbearable when I use the neutron music app.
It happens not as much on the play music app, but still happens.
The system as a whole also lags considerably when running music with the neutron music app.
I'm running 4.2
Anyone had this problem?

Same problem with power amp (pa. 4.2).
Got a nexus 7 that shipped with 4.2 and had the same issue (music suddenly stuttering even without doing anything).
For now I seem to have gooten rid of the issue by doing a "wipe cache partition" in the recovery console (google for it).
The only thing which is left: if some heavy fullscreen animation is playing (i.e. returning to home screen or opening an app) the music _sometimes_ gets a little distorted (< 1 sec) but at least isn't interrupted.

Thanks a lot, that actually works (wipe cache and dalvik in recovery)
Btw it works with bluetooth headphones
It happened to me once or twice so I installed AVG Antivirus and GO Taskmanager then kept cleaning RAM regularly then the glitch got fixed somehow.
Here we go again...
This is driving me nuts...
Using my Nexus 7 the past few days, the music lags/distortions slowly reappeared.
I tried to pay attention when they happen. So far I noticed most of them while:
Opening a new tab in Chrome, switching between apps (fullscreen animation), having heavy disk I/O (i.e. installing/uninstalling apps). But sometimes they just appear out of nowhere, even when not doing anything at all, though.
Here's a collection of things I tried so far to eliminate the issue:
- Cache partition wipe: like mentioned helped at first but soon the issue reappeared.
I also wiped the cache partition again yesterday and the issue actually got worse afterwards this time...
- Keeping RAM clean: tried numerous apps to close unnecessary background apps and free RAM. Seems to reduce the issue a bit.
- Turning off 'click' sounds: in the sound menu there's a toggle for sounds when touching the screen (i.e. clicking on an element within an app). Turning it off actually helped a bit, because the music lags at least won't happen at times when the click sound would be played, anymore. (Which happened often to me before)
- Using Poweramp: this music player app allows you to increase the audio engine's buffer size and process priority. I tried tweaking these settings to no avail. It seemed fine at first but the lags reappeared quickly despite having increased process priority and buffer size. Other third-party players I tried have the same lag issue as well.
I looked around the net and also through the Android bug tracker. Despite of this thread I rarely found any related report so I begin to wonder if other Nexus 7 owners aren't noticing or simply ignoring this issue or if my device is faulty.
I somehow doubt the latter though, because everything else is mostly completely smooth including video playback, Android GUI, scrolling in Chrome etc.
To me it seems more like a multithreading issue (which would be ridiculous having a quad-core processor) or a memory/disk access bottleneck.
I have this issue too, though it's like a 100ms stutter or something quick. I'm using headphones with no issues on desktop or Galaxy Nexus. I've noticed it the most in Netflix and YouTube, but also get it in Google Music and Pandora.
I get it also, even just listening when everything else is idle. It makes me afraid that a device has *more* processing power than my Gnex plays music worse than it. The Gnex is just about flawless with music and multitasking.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk HD
A friend of mine is also having this issue on d2vzw (Verizon Galaxy S III) on cm 10.1 and not 10. I will check back here now and then and see if anyone has come up with anything and any updates on his side.

[Solved] Chromecast Disconnects

Wife and I both have Note 3's. My Note 3 makes it through about 1 or 2 songs and then disconnects from the Chromecast. This causes all music to stop playing and the Google Play Music app on the tv to return to the headphone start screen. I've compared all types of phone settings, wifi, etc between wife's phone and mine. I even did a factory reset on my phone, no change. My son's S3 has no issues, our Note 2's had no issues, only my N3.
Anyone else having these issues? More importantly know how to fix the Chromecast disconnect. Thx.

This may or may not work but in an old phone I had a similar issue with pandora. Hopefully this works but if you have an option for streaming for high quality, turn that on, then reset your phone right after and start the program and see if it works. Ib know it sounds completely illogical but it worked on that phone with pandora, maybe it will work with this

Using the program REGPON wifi keep alive, located in the Play Store, I'm now having disconnect free Chromecast playback. Appears it was an issue with the wifi going to sleep even though it was check marked to Always stay on in the advanced wifi settings.
Hope this helps someone else.

This helped my problem on the Nexus 7. It's such an odd thing that I need to use this though.
This problem is happening when I cast Netflix from Chrome on my laptop (Toshiba Satellite). Its incredibly annoying.

I've got a oneplus one running CM os 12. With Google play music this was the only solution that worked and I also had the wifi set to not sleep. Interesting, never saw any other signs of wifi going to sleep. It will be interesting to see if the battery usage is affected. I'm guessing it wont be.
Thanks a ton for saving the day. Really enjoying play music now.

[Q] Netflix video problem with 8.0 help

Do you guys get video stuttering on Netflix? It's pretty bad on my tab 4 8.0 to the point of getting a headache. I've tried 2.4 & 5ghz but no change. Battery saver is off. This doesn't happen on any other android devices I own. Even my old tab 2 runs Netflix smoother. Any tips or is this how it is on all tab 4s?
Could someone try Netflix and let me know how it is on your tablet please.
Tested Netflix on my Tab4 8", no problems at all.
Do you experience this stuttering on any other video app?

Tab 7 here. I get a bit of stuttering but rebooted and plays smooth again.

I've tried out some other players like mxplayer and also stuff like YouTube and video playback is smooth. It seems to be just Netflix that is having this issue for me. I've restarted and all that but no luck. Netflix is the only one getting this stuttering every few seconds. Real annoying. Not sure why. I've never seen Netflix act like this on any of my devices and other tablets that I currently own.
Try clearing the cache, try reinstalling?
i have the same problem
what i have tried so far:
1. re install firmware using Kies.
2. format cache, factory reset from recovery
3. clear cache, restart app
4. disabled screen mirror, smart stay, palm motion , switched to nova launcher...
5. limit background process, check do not keep activities.
6. disabled power saving.
7. disabled multiwindow.
edit: also tried
8. clear all other apps cache.
9. Turned off all the bloatware.
10. installed task killers, show no process running since they are Turned off.
11 disabled rotation
12. enabled airplane mode
I also noticed movies in SD does not shutter. only the ones in super HD.
don't know what else to try, and i don't want to root and lose warranty.
playing 1080p 60Hz videos shutter a little bit, I'm starting to think that is just that the CPU cant cope with doing many things at the same time like using wireless an decoding video. since day 1, i noticed that while the updates were downloading and installing it became very laggy over all, and I was like, what are 4 cores there for then? its just that its a crappy tablet and that's all.
I've tried a lot of the things above to and Netflix is still having this micro stuttering. I noticed that if I lower the Netflix quality in my settings it will still stutter so it has nothing to do with the tablet not being able to handle high quality. It almost seems like there's a bug on the Netflix side with this tablet that is causing this or something. It's kinda sad that my old tab 2 7.0 Netflix stream is better than this new tab 4. I also have a shield tablet that just blows both these away but that's expected. My wife and daughter use this tab 4 and they watch allot of Netflix on it so I would really like to figure this out. Anyone else have any ideas on what to do or know if there's a bug that needs to be ironed out with Netflix and this tablet. Maybe there's a update from Netflix or Samsung to fix this problem in the future...if they know about it.

you can find it here if you want:
