I want to take a Backup of Stock Recovery , But failed in all attempts.
So please can someone give me the required Stock Recovery Image(.img) file.
Details of my Mobile Phone:
Make:Lava
Modelixel V1
Android Version: 6.0(Marshmallow) {as per setting>about phone}
Android security patch level:1 August 2016 {as per setting>about phone}
Build number:Lava_PixelV1_S040_20160801 {as per setting>about phone}
[If more Details required, Please do ask]
Why I need Backup of Stock Recovery?
So that I can Install TWRP , and use Stock Recovery to install OTA Updates.
Which methods I tried?
I tried almost all methods except those which replaces Stock Recovery.
Since my aim is to take Backup of Stock Recovery I did not tried those.
Which methods I tried without replacing Stock Recovery?
1. Rooting the Phone without replacing Stock Recovery.
a. Using android version (.apk)
Example: iRoot , Kingo Root , King Root.
All of the above Failed , even after trying for several attempts for each APK.
b. Using PC version [Did not use the one's which replace Stock Recovery]
Example : iRoot , [can not remember other PC version right now, i'll update when i can]
The above Failed , even after trying for several attempts.
After Rooting there is a method to Extract Stock Recovery from Recovery partition , But did not bothered since my phone was not getting Rooted.
2. Soft Booting a Custom Recovery.
Example Commands:
1. fastboot boot recovery recovery.img
2. fastboot boot recovery.img
3. fastboot -c "your_default_command_line lge.kcal=0|0|0|x" boot customrecovery.img [I have misplaced that command line, cannot find, may update later]
But as always Failed. :crying:
I was getting some similar error:
downloading 'boot.img'...
OKAY [ 0.715s]
booting...
FAILED (remote: not allowed)
finished. total time: 0.596s
Note : I am new to This stuff and to Android OS. Please Understand.
I also know that there is a method to extract Stock Recovery from Stock ROM , But I do not Know how to do that.
Note to Moderator : I am new to this Forum, so if I made any mistakes or broke rule's please do correct me.
Please do not delete the post or ban me , I am ready to correct myself.
So please Kindly Help me.
Thanking You.

You can get your stock recovery from stock ROM extract and you will see a recovery.IMG that it is
https://docs.google.com/uc?id=0BynLDiCMvBUCQUdFVXBMQzhaaW8
But that will be useless
OTA cannot be installed unless you have a pure stock ROM
What I suggest is install TWRP and let it replace the stock recovery. Reason:- You can install OTA using TWRP

Sir,
Thanks for the Link, I already had that ZIP file as a backup if I messed any thing, and I have successfully extracted recovery.img.
BUT as you said "that will be useless" as "OTA cannot be installed unless you have a pure stock ROM", I am deducing that for that recovery it needs same stock ROM.(Just tell me if I m right or wrong of this assumption).
Now, "You can install OTA using TWRP" , I read on this forum that OTA cannot be installed using TWRP due to some checks in OTA unless those checks R removed.(Reff).
If this is not the case Please tell me the procedure to install OTA using TWRP.
Thanking You.
EDIT 1: I am going to root my phone after my Internal Test which will end next week.
Edit 2: If the latest TWRP(Reff1&Reff2) has the ability to install OTA, then I guess my problem is solved.

Yeah u r right- recovery gets updated with an OTA update.(That's why your assumption is right)
For installing OTA through TWRP you will have to remove the checks..i.e get prop lines from updater script in the OTA package..(Don't worry.. there is a TWRP-ready package available - to install through TWRP)
But these packages will only work if u don't change system files--mainly build.prop and system apps(DON'T UNINSTALL THEM )
THAT'S IT
BUT SPECIFY ME THE REASON FOR TWRP INSTALLATION- ROM or ROOT

Sir, Thanks for your kind help and answering my queries.
let me put my Question in point form.
[1]Yesterday I have Successfully Flashed TWRP and then Installed SuperSU v2.78 (systemless).
but , Installing SuperSU v2.78 (systemless), does it replace any /system files? such that OTA can not be installed?
(ie. supersu is not Installed on /system, as u may know)
[2]I have not modified build.prop and UNINSTALL any system apps.
but i have renamed two files in /system/media/ui/ (so that to remove camera trigger sound).
but my guess is ,if i restored the names of the files then mount /system as read-only and then install OTA , will it not cause any Problem?
[3]How can I ,"For installing OTA through TWRP you will have to remove the checks..i.e get prop lines from updater script in the OTA package.", do this?(Teach me or point me to the right direction)
[4]Where can I get those? :"Don't worry.. there is a TWRP-ready package available - to install through TWRP"?
Since @MSF Jarvis discontinued this thread.
And @MSF Jarvis , It was very Helpful, I wish u could continue it.
[5]Can I get latest recovery OR recovery.img from OTA?
Answer to your Question "BUT SPECIFY ME THE REASON FOR TWRP INSTALLATION- ROM or ROOT" is ROOT , which is already answered in (1), but my 1st objective was to take backup of stock ROM and then ROOT,but my guess is that can not be done.
Sorry for the long post and simple silly Question (since I m new to this stuff).
Thank You.

1. SuperSU by default is systemless, so just installing SuperSU won't break OTAs.
2. Renaming and remounting as RO won't fix OTAs. You'll need to use a customized OTA zip for this.
3. You can use my packages for this.
4. I have all the packages still saved on my system, I'll reupload all of them to Google Drive and have the thread reopened.
5. If you mean latest TWRP, then there will soon be an official app for that, but for now there's no option for a recovery OTA. If there are enough users needing it I may consider coming up with a solution.

Thanks @Suraj Pandey & @MSF Jarvis ,
[1]My query is resolved.
[2]my guess i was not clear , what i meant was i renamed "xyz.ogg" to "xyz.ogg.BACKUP" in "/system/media/ui/", now assume i received October OTA update , since i want to install this OTA , i rename that .ogg file to "xyz.ogg" from "xyz.ogg.BACKUP".
Then mount the /system as read-only.
Assuming i edited the OTA with checks removed or got the edited OTA from you.
Reboot to TWRP and install edited OTA.
Now the Question is : Will the OTA install or Not or will it cause any problem?
[3]I meant was "I want to learn how to edit the OTA with checks removed" or point me in right direction.
[4] Thanks @MSF Jarvis for reopening the thread.
[5]I was not clear on this one, my fault. :fingers-crossed:
I meant update for stock recovery which come in OTA update.
And hence my corrected Question is : Can I get latest stock recovery OR recovery.img from latest OTA?
Thank you @MSF Jarvis & @Suraj Pandey
Edit 1: Please Do answer my [2]&[5] Question.
Edit 2:I just realized that I used "OTP" instead of "OTA" in some places. This is really embarrassing!!
So I edited "OTP" to "OTA".

2. Yeah it should work out, audio files don't get frequent updates anyway
5. You automatically get updated if there's an update to the stock recovery, almost always there's no update tho.

No Proficiency is required for that.
It's very easy
Just erase the getprop lines from Updater script
That's it

Remove all get prop lines and apply_patch_check lines. Basically, there's a comment at the end of the checks, that says "start making changes here", you need to wipe all lines till there, excluding the line that mounts /system . You can remove OEM partition mounting since we aren't using it anymore. These modded updates will ONLY flash on TWRP, since ZIPs are signed with a signature that gets invalidated by any edits.

Hi
Here are flashable zip file wich installs latest Sony stock 6.0.1 Marshmallow ROM 23.5.A.1.291_R3D (VMo AU-NZ), SuperSu v2.76 and latest TWRP 3.0.20 with read and write acces to system. Because device is Wi-Fi only region doesn´t matter. Only difference is bloatware. Since Sony hasn´t push update to SGP511 I use SGP512 firmware which is working fine on my device. If you want you can edit build.prop file in /system -folder to correct model number as shown in screenshot.
Here is the link for new 6.0.1 firmware:

MD5 is: D3B78445485765AB7BD3A163F2A6C4BD
Make nandroid backup before flashing.
Install it by flashing whole zip file via custom recovery. TWRP recommend. If coming from .570 or .575 firmware dirty flash with art/dalvik cache wipe is okay.
If coming from older firmware factory reset is most likely necessary with cache and dalvik/art cache wipes but anyhow recommend. If you want you can restore your data with TWRP after installation and reboot. This install compatible busybox. If you install incompatible busybox you may loose acces to TWRP.
After flashing .zip file if you are getting bootloop you have atleast two choises.
- With pc and Flashtool use your firmware original ftf -file and flash it by excluding "FOTAKernel", "Partition" and "System". In other words in "exclude section" tick these and don´t wipe anything. (Credits @AlanDS)
- Or download "bootloop fix" from here: https://mega.nz/#!BUxFxSAR!bPVEEDnsPz962JQ1uA2PKJv9tYLKA47N0fhA80ltEvw
(Credits @niaboc79 and @machao44) and flash it with TWRP
Here is the old 23.1.A.1.28 (Customized NCB) FTF -file link:

Nope. Only difference between devices is memory size and your device regognize correct size even if you use this. Only thing is your device shows as SGP511 but you can chance that in build.prop file if you like.
Er... on my Z2 Tablet with .726 firmware there is no "Ultra Stamina" mode... or am I missing something?
Or is "Ultra Stamina" introduced only with this new firmware version??
Thanks, I just noticed this version was offered as a 21 MB system update on my current ROM (23.1.A.0.690 NCB). But this is much better :good:

You are right. Chancelog is copy/pasted from universal source so there is device specific differencies and because this device is wifi only there is no ultra stamina mode.

For to be safe I recommend to make nandroid backup including kernel, system and data. However if something go wrong system backup with kernel might be enough to bring your device back.
This ain't wipe your internal sd on it's own so it is your choice.
Thanks man, you're always so fast! We should be getting 5.1 next month I read somewhere

Nope. Double tap to wake work fine here.
Factory reset coming from KK, everything working perfectly, including root/SU and double tap to wake.
In case anyone has similar issues, I couldn't download from Mega directly to device (it kept disconnecting at around 10%), had to download using PC and transfer using SD card.
Thanks Kulvertti for all the work you do for our device, it is much appreciated! :good:

hey man,
I just spent like 2 hours trying to get CWM installed for castor windy. finally ended up using a combo of ADB "fastboot reboot-bootloader" reboot-boot <lightning-bolt-symbol/fastboot mode/select kernal to flash> and put in an extracted boot.img for CWM (nightly build). i then did "fastboot reboot" and rapidly pressed the volume up button. it worked and im now in CWM. I put your zip on my sd card before, and I navigated to that <apply update/choose from sdcard1/flashablesomeupdatedetailsidontwanttocopy.zip> (strangly I noticed that there were 2 identical "choose from sdcard1" options)

First: Thanks to Kulvertti for all his work.
I am still confused. Do I need to root my device on forehand?
What I have understood so far:
You don't have to have root to flash NUT's [TABZ2][TWRP][PhilZ Touch][CWM] XZDualRecovery (It won't bring you root either).
So you can flash this recovery as long as you are on unrooted but rootable stock firmware (e.g. 17.1.2.A.0.314).
Then can flash this pre-rooted stock Lollipop ROM 23.1.A.1.28 and you will have root.
So only 3 steps to go from unrooted stock Lollipop to to this pre-rooted Lollipop?
1) flash rootable firmware (from PC, using flashtool).
2) flash "NUT's" recovery (from PC, using NUT's installer).
3) flash this pre-rooted stock Lollipop ROM (from sdcard1, using TWRP recovery)
Is this correct??
Since lollipop there is no manual update option in huawei updater and even the huawei stock recovery has no or less interface which has no adb sideload option. This became a crunch to flash the update which your friend got and which u dont.
This Method is Universal for all huawei devices
In order to apply ota update using this method , root access is a major requirement so be sure your device is rooted.
If u had twrp recovery , at first flash SuperSu package to root your device (Try systemless root only) .
After successfull root ,flash stock recovery from twrp and reboot system.
Step 1:
In my case b370 is the last ota i found for kiw-l22 which vsriram92 posted here . Thanks to him for posting the update before 99% users got their update :good:
Download the relevant update package (ota) which you need a relevant base package to install it on . Ex: b360 as base for b370 update
step 2:
just remember the path where u downloaded the package . Install Flashify from playstore or From Here
Select Zip file which is the third option in flashify .
step 3 :
Navigate to the path where u downloaded ota package select the update.zip (ota package).
flashify starts downloading the package to its path asks you for root access .
Grand Su permissions , Select Cwm recovery if flashify asks as the next option.
Now the phone reboots to recovery and starts flashing.
After the ota update , your device will be unrooted . so take a backup of your stock recovery by following below guide.
Enable Usb debugging and connect ur phone to pc.
navigate to adb folder and place twrp.img or recovery.img in adb folder ,open command window from the same folder and type
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
Now type
Code:
fastboot boot recovery.img
or what_ever_its_name.img
now it temporarily boots twrp , take a backup of your stock recovery and then flash twrp for permanent install and then reroot ur device.
Happy flashing :laugh::good:
it gets zip signature verification failed....the method is similar to installing the zip file directly from the recovery but that doesn't work unless zip signature is verified

Nope. It was there in EMUI 3 previously. Now, we can't unless it has only update.app.
so b370 is only for the ones who gave root access to their phones?

Hello together, I tried flashing the B360 update for my L21 with this method but unfortunately I did not succeed. I followed every step but when flashify reboots to the stock recovery nothing happens. Just nothing.
I used the file for the L21 that I linked to in this post.
Any suggestions how to get it to work?

Are you on B350D0003 or some earlier firmware? I'm on stock B350, just rooted with Magisk+phh's superuser, and it doesn't want to flash that big file at all; tried flashing OTA update (200MB file) and it failed at 80%, causing a damn bootloop. Gah, I thought my old phone was pain in the ass...

I'm on B350D003. After I tried the OTA instead of the full package I came across the same problem with the stock recovery, but when flashing it from TWRP it did flash it, but exited with an error.
No bootloop but as a file was missing for the full update process wifi (and probably bluetooth) are not working.
If you are interrested to solve it, have a look here. It looks like there is a way to fix the problem and we are currently investigating.

TBH, I'm on a verge to start building LOS or PAC/Slim/whatever is properly maintained and fast for my own needs and ditch EMUI completely....
I'm searching for other firmwares now via FirmwareFinder, there is a probability that one is a leaked test or something like that, because it simply doesn't want to flash. If I find out something, I'll continue on thread you've linked, to avoid flooding this one.
Hi. Thanks for your guide.
I need to update my phone with several ota updates. I just need to repeat this guide's procedure until updated to the last ota or there is a better way to do that?

Just follow the procedure and you will be done
This guide is for update within versions if you are rooted, if not, simply download and install de ota or with FF.
If you update to B394 from any version, downloading the last complete packet in update system, it locks the bootloader !!! be advised
If you update to B399 or B401, B402 from B394, downloading the last complete packet in update system, DO NOT LOCK the bootloader !!! good news
My first problem was when I was in B380 and rooted , the b389 ota arrived...then I unroot, put stock recovery and unistalled busybox, but ota failed at 8%
The solution to this :
1 - flash stock recovery from version you have
2 - download the last complete packet in update system , for me 2.41 Gb, not the ota
3 - (optional but useful for future) connect to pc and copy the 3 files downloaded the update in HWOUC to pc
4 - make the normal update in update system
7 - copy supersu 2.82.zip original file or Magisk to SD
8 - Flash last twrp recovery twrp-3.1.1-1-frd , enter in twrp recovery and:
9 - Tick the option "Keep vendor partition mounted" inside OpenKirin in Settings (last option in settings) for me is ticked as default
10 - Make a backup of boot (for future) if you want
11- flash supersu 2.82 original or Magisk
12 - reboot and it's done!!!!!!!!
Update to B394
if you have done all the process and you want now to update to b394, you can uninstall first supersu within options menu saying yes to all questions when uninstalling and without errors or bad uninstallation; then, delete binaries of busybox, flash stock recovery and try to install ota...for me the ota not installed and done with errors.
Then I installed b394 full and locked my bootloader, forcing me to format all because i unlocked the bootloader (remember to activate oem bootloader unlock on and usb depuration on).
After installing the same twrp recovery, I tested the magisk v14 and works perfect, but with an inconvenient, you have to disable the option of magisk manager "magisk hide" to work with fingerprint ,At version 15.3 I didn't see this error.
B394 to B399
Tried the uninstaller of magisk flashed with twrp to unroot and then put the stock recovery and failed, then I flashed stock boot and failed ....finally it worked downloading the last complete packet in update system. Then the habitual, flash twrp recovery, magisk v15.3 from twrp and magisk manager v5.5 in android...and worked perfect
B399 to B401
This time I only unistalled binaries from busybox and flashed stock recovery; then launched Full update (2.41 Gb) without problems. Then flashed twrp, magisk 15.3 from twrp as usual and nothing more...magisk manager detected all ok and I have a rooted device again.
B401 to B402
Simplified the process, now only flash the stock recovery 401 and make the full update packet (2.41Gb). Then flash twrp, enter in twrp, flash magisk 16.0, reboot and that's all. Install busybox script, adaway hosts and done.
Notes:
1 - If the system downloaded automatically the small ota update. you must to try to update with an obvious error, then you can download the full update packet.
1 - the installation of magisk is simple, in twrp flash the magisk.zip , reboot and install magisk manager to control all. This is another app to root and don't need supersu. The advantages to make this is magisk hide, it permits to work with apps that can't work if your phone is rooted.

I had B381, TWRP & Root and I just used points from guide - 2.2,3,6,7,8,9,11,12. I had to remove SuperSU in the app - complete unroot option. Flashed stock recovery.img (and recovery2.img) in fastboot mode, which I extracted from my firmware version update.app. Restarted the device and did a full OTA update to B389, hard reset, flashed latest TWRP 3.1.1-1 in fastboot mode, than installed modified SuperSU for EMUI 5.0 from XDA and all is done.

Hello eveybody.
I have a question. Actually I have more .. a lot, but for now:
Up to what buildnumber is it possible to root the P8 Lite?
(Because I had B605 and tried to root it but failed. Got stuck in logo, and now I have stock rom B609.
Still trying to root but get all kind of errors and weird things I dont understand ... I am a newbie at this though.)
Oh, also what else do i need to do before trying to root for the tenth time ? (Log out of Huawei account? reset facory settings? ... or anything?)
Kind regards,
TommyWhite

Your can error every versions... I'm on B610 and have rooted it with Magisk... I guess you already have rooted it before so you're not new to this... Well anyway, to root you must have TWRP recovery, and the root file... Boot into recovery mode and simply flash the root file...
What error did you get while rooting on B605?
You probably got stuck in boot animation because you flashed superSU in system mode. It should be installed in system-less mode. Magisk will install only in system-less mode and I think it's better at passing the safetynet.

Thanks for replying :good:
What do you mean with "Your can error every versions..."? .. Do you mean you can root every version?
I am very new to this. Half of the time I dont know what the H im doing, and all of the time I only have a slight idea of what is going on in the Phone. For example I dont even know what a root file is, could you tell me?
How did you root with Magisk if I may ask? And whats the difference with SuperSu?
I had all kinda errors and issues along the way from B605 to B170 and B123 Android 5 back to 6 and B609. (I could make a thread of it ... maybe it helps others???)
Because today I finaly rooted my Phone.
Weirdly enough root checker basic sais it isnt but other root checkers say it is (and my device itself said after reboot that it was) ... so what to make of that?
Can I update the Phone now its rooted without unrooting it?

You can't update phone which is rooted(as far as I know).
Do you have TWRP recovery installed?
If you had TWRP installed and you rooted by flashing SuperSu(this is what other guy meant with "root file"). By default SuperSu installs in system mode(meaning it does it thing into system partition). You need to install other zip file first to make it install system-less mode(meaning it does it thing into boot partition).
Magisk is also flashable zip and similiar to SuperSU. If you use apps that need to pass safetynet(like netflix) you want to root with magisk.
Don't know did that helped at all. It's hard to explain when I only know how to use it but don't know why/how it works : D
And if you don't mind doing factory reset before updating, you can also install official updates in TWRP.
Uhhhmmm ok. Well I had to copy eu.chainfire.supersu-1 folder from boot folder to system folder so I dont know what to call that than.
I have TWRP now yes thank you.
But I dont understand about safetynet, coz I just tried Netflix and it works just fine ... and I got SuperSu not Magisk.
By the way when I press on SuperSu nothing happens ... how come?
Also your telling me that I can install official update with TWPR without unrooting it?
And, if you dont mind telling me, whats better to make backup with TWPR or Titanium backup?
While im at it ... if I make a backup of rooted Phone and accidently unroot it by update or something cant i just restore the backup to unroot it again?
Thanks in advance, sorry for the many questions. (Ill learn a lot; )
1. I don't think you can just copy superSu stuff(though not 100% sure, I rarely do things manually if I don't have to. Mostly because lack of knowledge : D )
2. Maybe stock rom passes safety net and it's nothing to really think about as an user. Because if everything works like you want -> no reason to care. If doesn't work -> now you care and you can find answer since you have something to look for
3. Root isn't actually thing you can loose. It's thing that you just install in the rom. As user you can think it like an app.(which just has to be installed a bit differently).
4. When you press SuperSu, Supersu app should open (maybe your copying broke it)
5. TWRP is to back up whole rom(or some partitions). Like if you "soft brick" your device or format system/boot/data partition you can restore it back exactly like it was with TWRP backup. You should do this every time you install new rom or some stuff that modifies system like xposed. It saves time and nerves if things don't work.
5.1 Titanium back up is to back up app and/or app data(like progress in games). This is good if you are changing rom or wanting to re-install your current rom.
6. You'll soon understand the actual concept of the root. Like with p8lite only thing you need to worry is that you have unlocked bootloader. Which you should have since you were able to install TWRP.
7. About installing firmware in TWRP is kind of easier, because stock method will need non-rooted firmware and only few exactly correct firmwares can be installed on top of your current firmware. With TWRP you can even install roms from other kirin 620 devices. (My phone is honor 4x, but I used to use p8lites firmwares because it had more updates) TWRP updating will wipe data.
Happy to help. I think I answered most of your questions in that, ask if you need better details. It would be hard to write guide that has all basics explained the way it would be easy to understand, you'll learn faster when you keep trying and ask question as they come(like you have) at some point you will do something wrong and be like **** this **** and start over again. Then it will became easier and you will also learn that it's difficult to actually brick this phone(some people are too scared about it and few have succeeded in it, but no idea how : D) )
Thanks for using actual english in your questions. :good:

By default, SuperSu installs root in system mode. It will fail the SafetyNet test (which checks if the android system is modified or not if it fails, you can't run SnapChat and Android Pay will not work too). If you root by Magisk, the SafetyNet test will pass..
To make it clear, since you have TWRP, download the Root file (SuperSu or Magisk) and then flash the root file from TWRP... Copying and pasting won't work.
These are the files: SuperSu v 2.78 and Magisk v 13.3.. Download either of these files and flash through TWRP..
And yes, I meant you can root...

Thank you very much for helping and letting me feel at ease with that last bit! Buttuhm if I used Dutch I dont think I would get very much help here, but thanks for thanking me (My English is not so good though)
Sorry for the late responce. Ive been busy ... also with reading and searching ... but seems like the more I read the more questions I get.
Anyways:
1. In the tutorial I finally tried it said in the end "7. Now open /device/data/app and locate folder eu.chainfire.supersu-1 cut and paste in folder /device/system/app with following rights rwx r-x r-x" and it worked. (Im not sure weither I may post the link of that tutorial here. Its some blogspot.)
2. Mobile banking doesnt work anymore. It sais it doesnt recognize my device ... so If its not to hard to switch to Magisk, I would like that.
3. But I cannot just uninstall SuperSu and install Magisk now can I? (Im trying to figure that out, among all the other stuff new to me.)
4. Lol ye I have been a bit of an idiot there or drunk or something, cause it works just fine.
5. Ok so it makes an images of your whole device so to speak, right? But I guess TWRP will be gone after a official update or a stock ROM is installed? When I make a back up with TWPR it names it date Balong500311 or something. I had the Balong bug several days ago but its gone now ... I hope. In aida64 it sais Board: Balongv8r1sft and in project menu it sais CP version: some number (balong) ... its very strange.
5.1 So TWRP is better it backs up everything.
6. Ok, but I wanna know .. Everything!!!! :victory:
7. I dont understand your first sentence here at all. (Remember im realy realy new to this. For to new to be going installing ROMs from other devices )

Yes thank you. But I finally rooted it after a bunch of trouble. Softbricks, balong bug, all kinds of errors and issues. And I was finally able to root it in a very strange way ... and almost accidentally. And not with the newest TWRP (does that matter?) nor the newest SuperSu. When I flashed the newest SuperSu in not the newest TWRP it got softbricked.
So Im a bit ... uhm more cautious now hoping it will all go more smoothly from now on.
I will search Banakafallata's thread.
Oh by the way. You have B610 right? Do you still have the local update function in the menu of updater?

Yes thank you. But I finally rooted it after a bunch of trouble. Softbricks, balong bug, all kinds of errors and issues. And I was finally able to root it in a very strange way ... and almost accidentally. And not with the newest TWRP (does that matter?) nor the newest SuperSu. When I flashed the newest SuperSu in not the newest TWRP it got softbricked.
So Im a bit ... uhm more cautious now hoping it will all go more smoothly from now on.
I will search Banakafallata's thread.

Great to know that you've rooted, though by some weird way... It doesn't matter much, the difference between older and newer SuperSU is very less... But for TWRP, newer lets you flash stock update.zip whereas older doesn't...

No, the local update option is not there from Marshmallow onwards. But you can flash a zip for it too... Yes, updating your device to newer build (updates) will unroot your device... But you can root it again

1. Oh, I just realized that that copy was to make superSU a system app instead of user app. (This only affects superSU app, not other stuff it installs) If you install SuperSU in system mode it will cause bootloop.
2. I guess you can try use superSu uninstaller or try to uninstall from superSU app. Then just go magisk thread and download latest stable magisk and install it in TWRP. You can take backup of boot partition if you want so it will be easy to fix if you get bootloop.
5(I guess). Yes, you're right.
You can always get to bootloader mode and just flash TWRP again. I'm not sure is there any reason to care about balong "bug". I guess it might prevent updating with stock method and maybe some cust partition related stuff but I know almost nothing about that.
5.1 If you want to change rom and it's sometimes good to do facotry reset before installing new rom. In this case you need titanium backup to have app progress saved.
6. All I know about rooting is that you install magisk or superSU and then use it(so can't help with anything deeper) : D
7.I'll try again, but shorter
Normal update method only allows you to update on an unmodified firmware(Non-rooted) and it does kind of strict version checking.
If you are ok with doing factory reset before installing you can download update with/from "firmware finder"(can be found somewhere from this devices forum and probably also from honor 4x and 4c forums) to install update in TWRP(zip files from firmware finder have update-script in them. Official site updates doesn't have it.) This way there is no version checking. If you are doing this remember to reboot recovery when installation is done(it will go to stock recovery) and to factory reset. Then you can flash TWRP and do rooting stuff.
I wrote this a bit tired, so I hope the words are in order which they might make some sense.

Ok. But I tried local update by pressing vol up + vol down and powerbutton and it tried to update but failed.
Now I'm glad it failed coz it would have unrooted my phone as I understand.
Did it fail coz the phone is rooted? Or is that pherhaps because of what keikari said: "only few exactly correct firmwares can be installed on top of your current firmware"? That I cant update from B09 to B10.

Thanks again, I copied some bits to remember. I hope you were not tired of me not understanding things. You said I should just ask so here I go again
I understand most of what you wrote but:
TWPR can make a back up/an image of the device, right? But that image doesnt include apps and app data (or data at all?)? And Titanium doesnt back up firmware I guess.
So how do I make a backup of everything (except of the hardware) then?
Also Im in a dilemma about updating TWPR, because you said it will whipe data (what data actually?) and amageek said I need new TWPR for stock updates. So I need the "backup of everything first" I guess ... what to do? I have TWPR 3.0.2 now by the way.
Also cant I just download Magisk from Google Play now that my phone is rooted ... or is that being stupid?
7: Its strange, coz I remember I had my phone rooted (with the help of some old tutorial they should remove imo) but accidentally downgraded my phone with it to lollipop (one of the many failures I encountered ). But just with local updates B052 to B132 to B170 back to some 2KB B132 to marshmallow B609 ... something like that ... it was unrooted again.
Anyway, by update script you mean a script only TWPR can read?
And therefor TWPR does not check the version allready installed?
Is that correct?
But after this you say: "If you are doing this remember to reboot recovery when installation is done (it will go to stock recovery) and to factory reset.
Then you can flash TWRP and do rooting stuff."
I dont get that, coz that means you have to start all over again ... or do I miss something?
Im sorry, im doing the best I can.

Do you have have stock recovery or TWRP recovery? If you have TWRP recovery then fish stock recovery and then try updating again...
This will restore your Indian variant Honor 7x back to stock, in case you have rooted or flashed TWRP before. After this you can get OTA updates and they will flash fine. If you want to manually flash OTA updates, you can continue to next video after watching this
I suggest you to watch it carefully and do same as I did to prevent any damages.

Thanks for the helpfull information.
I have the files for BND-L24 uploaded and want to share same method of restore , for US version. As the method is the same.
Would it be ok to link to your thread from a new thread with L24 files attached , or add the backup here and just change the title?

All the post I see about manually flashing Oreo say you CAN NOT return to emui 5. So I would believe no
**EDIT**
I see now on firmware finder there are roll-back to emui 5.1 full-ota packages.
right now only for
BND-AL00
BND-AL10
BND-TL10
but perhaps after flashing that full ota to get partition table back , then follow this method from here to get correct regional specific parts back.
All still untested at this point
Suppose if I install Other rom first like AOSP or RR?

I have no first hand information. Just that for RR you need to first update to Oreo, so same as before, the information at this point is, NO , roll-back is not able.
need help please

Your other post show you are on Oreo. This method, files linked are Android nougat.
You need to replace twrp with stock recovery, then wipe cache from there. This should fix your bootloop ,caused by wipeimg cache in twrp. Unless there is more to the story than you tell.

Well it twrp is not staying on, then fastboot will have to be the method to recover
Hope this will work
fastboot format cache
fastboot format userdata
If those not work, or not allowed try
fastboot -w

the downgrade is tricky , if not done with full downgrade files. It is pretty much a half full update, then restore a backup. There are many things that could cause trouble with this.
Did you try to factory reset after failed OTA?
