Should I upgrade to CM12 or stay at CM11? (I'm using the CM ROM on my GS5)
i would not use CM if there was a choice but we stuck with cm and tw unfortunately.
cm 12 has lots of issues right now.
Stay with cm11 but when exit cm12.1 based in android 5.1 upgrade.

I'm on BlissPop that's CM12 based and the only issue I'm having is with proximity sensor during calls which (I hope) should not be to hard to fix. I had 0 reboot's, FC's and any noticeable bug's. From my experience CM12 is more stable as it is now than CM11 was on S3 at the end of it's development cycle(awful battery life, call audio cut offs, static from the speaker, constant camera problems etc - non of those are present on CM12 on S5). It's faster and more battery frendly then even ultra debloated TW roms souch as XtreStoLite.
Why don't you make a nandroid of your CM11 setup, try CM12 for a few days and try it out for yourself?
Tell something about a camera in CM MewCore? Or what about fingerprint sensor?

The stock camera app as well as the google camera has nothing to brag about in terms of IQ or options, but replace them with A Better Camera or Camera Snap HDR and you will have the same, maybe even better results than on TW. Never used the fingerprint sensor, it's hit and miss even on TW so I never tried it on CM.
BTW the proximity sensor is now fixed on BlissPop and I simply can't find an argument to stay on CM11/TW

I am asking because I was on CM12 and BlissPop about month ago and the camera was the worst issuee for me.
Stock / google camera - only 8Mpix and very grainy pix.
How about battery life and WiFi? Is it ok now? I have used fingerprint for some time but preffer pattern.

Judge for yourself, here is an unprocessed shot (I baked it ) with A Better Camera on BlissPop, in not so great lightning conditions.
I was having WiFi disconnects while using custom system profiles, turned them off and don't have an issue since. Tasker ot AutomateIt is better at it so no complaints there. I was on stock TW for a month before trying Bliss and battery seems as good or even better, especially with KT kernel. I get 2 days with medium usage easy.

I feel as if the camera on CM11 is better than on CM12 and idk how the camera is on BlissPop but I might try it in a bit. (Yes, I made a back up :good: )
I tested a lot Roms but I always get an annoying lag when using LiveDisplay.
RR, BP, CM, Optimized CM.
Now on some other Phones Developers implemented an LiveDisplay fix but I don't have the knowledge (by far ) to do it myself.
It doesn't exists (yet).

What was the working feature? There is non. It's a CM feature.

I was so used to the Color Calibration of Custom Kernels that I thought it was CM based.
Anyway still lagging

Personal I use Maverick (I am very happy with this rom)
Sent from my S6 Edge Mav4
Opensource Open Camera works with any ROM. Might be better than changing entire ROM.
opencamera.sourceforge.net
opencamera sucked for me, confusing interface, crashed on cm-12.1-20151226-NIGHTLY-klte (havent tried it again after moving to CM13), doesnt do anything for 60 or 120fps so i'll just use AOSP/stock CM until snapcamera is enabled... which appears to be so soon omg such excite, very anticipation http://review.cyanogenmod.org/#/c/127285/
Non-TW based camera apps will suffer from low voice recording. There is a workaround for AOSP ROMs but it is not as good as TW.
http://review.cyanogenmod.org/#/c/127285/ next time nightly compiles, snapcamera is enabled!!!!!

qualcomm made a reference 'snapdragon camera' app for their processors, CM team has been working on porting that code for devices & material design
sultan's rom for oneplusone has used this app for a few months now, he has also submitted code updates to the CM version, i think lg g3 users have also had a port of the app to play with
all 3 of these devices (s5, o+o, g3) use the same 'Qualcomm MSM8974AC Snapdragon 801' chip, hence snapcamera, CM is enabling it on various devices over time
i am unclear on how many features there are, but possible ones are picture modes, shutter control, histogram, sharpness, anti banding (artifacts from 50 or 60hz light bulbs), denoise, timelapse, & i am expecting... hoping... for 60fps & 120fps

Image quality wise, compared to TW and CM's camera, it basically just have very low noise reduction which causes less blurry pics on low light and which results in more detail

The OPX is my daily driver (for now) and photography is a HUGE part of my life. Most stable custom ROMs do have more features than the stock, but the camera app functionality and interface will never compare to the stock software. The 2 main features I use are slo-mo and manual mode. So why don't I use OOS 2.x.x? Simple, the community build based on marshmallow has massive performance fixes (especially concerning the GPU and gaming). If the camera isn't a big deal for you than go ahead and flash a custom ROM, this will add more features to your device and the cost of a great camera app. But I definitely suggest upgrading to a marshmallow or nougat based ROM (my personal favourites are CM and PA, they have many features and are pretty stable) due to the poor performance of the GPU on OOS 2.X.X.
let me know you opinions on software concerning the OPX below?
whats the point?
Anyway i find sultans HAL combined with snapdragon interface better.

Ok.. So why not do both. Use a custom ROM and flash oos 3 camera zip. So now you have best ROM and best camera app. That is what I do.

Thanks for your thoughts and feedback? (camera seems a little buggy tho?)
The problem with the camera isn't the app it's self. It's the photo quality. Sultan hal uses higher iso settings to eliminate low fps during photo capturing, thus creating to much noise in the picture. That's why you can't get best of both. Furthermore that in latest OOS cam the video recording fps is normal now on, there is no need for me to change in any custom rom. ( by the time these lines are written of course, because no one knows what are talented and really hard working custom roms developers will bring us in the future)
Ps: of course I have test for long periods purity, sultan cm13, caf RR, and official cm13 in order to have a reference point.

Yes, I agree. But the interface on OOS is much more user friendly in my opinion than any STABLE custom rom out there. Sultan hal is much more complicated for the “simple everyday OnePlus user". The most noticeable downside between the two is trying to record slo mo on any custom ROM. There would be too much zoom, too much noise and it was hard to make it play in slo mo. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.?

Hi,
Just bought a K20. I can't stand MIUI. But going through this forum I realised that are are a few things which will break. (like no 48MP mode in Custom Rom)
So I wanted to know all the cons of Custom Rom vs MIUI.
-------
List:
No 48MP mode.
No MiUI camera
No Widewine L1 status.
Fingerprint is slow (not sure)
Less SOT (MIUI has various optimisations)
Any others?

If you can't stand MIUI then the cons are none.
I think by now GCam has 48mp fixed, FP is almost as good and so is SOT.
Ofcourse, But still I'd like to know what features I would lose.
Where did you get the 48MP Gcam?
Also. does MIUI camera works on Aosp/caf based roms?

You seem to be a experience user, probably you can clarify that for the OP and me. Some time ago I decided it's better to stay in the stock (stock based ROMs) side, talking about OS. In other way I love the stock experience (coming from OOS) but what about bsp thing. How does the Rom developers fix the layer of software containing hardware-specific drivers, to have fully working Rom. So we can have everything working as it should. THANKS in advance.

I'm not that experienced.
As xiaomi now release the Kernel source (even if some times a little out dated), custom ROMs actually build on top of it to keep maximum compatibility.
In the end, both are great (i'm on a moded MIUI my self) so it's all about the OS that feelt best for the user.
Granted, dev is still in it infancy on the Mi9t so many ROMS (even stock MIUI) are still with problems.
