Update, Dec 2, 2016 :
The procedure is updated to V7.4.2 and tested. Works!
Prerequisites :
1) You need to have stock V6.1 PRIME (unmodified /system & /boot partitions)
2) You need to have TWRP installed
If you have rooted your BLU R1, or removed ads from the Prime version, you need to restore your phone back to the stock condition first (unfortunately, the updates are incremental ...). Please follow this awesome post to downgrade your phone to stock Prime V6.1 version:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/r1-hd/how-to/guide-convert-to-prime-rollback-ota-t3432499
After the downgrade, install TWRP via SPFT, and come back here.
Procedure to apply V7.4.2 update (please save all the files below to the device upfront, in order to do the steps in a single TWRP session):
0) If necessary, restore your /system & /boot to stock V6.1 (see the above section on how to restore back to stock V6.1 Prime)
1) Download the modified update zip file from here for the current version you have (6.1):
BLU_R0010UU_prime_V6.1_to_7.4.2_mod.zip
MD5 sum f806b3aabdf2e048ca0b32251d2c6a4f
link
2) Flash the above *zip in TWRP, and without leaving TWRP, go straight to 3)
3) Re-root by installing SuperSu.zip
http://forum.xda-developers.com/r1-hd/how-to/twrp-how-to-root-t3425677
4) Remove ads again by applying the scripts :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/r1-hd/how-to/guide-ad-removal-debloat-block-ota-easy-t3429555
Here is how BLU_R0010UU_prime_V6.1_to_7.4.2_mod.zip was created. I took BLU_R0010UU_V6.1_GENERIC_6.0_20160617-1456-BLU_R0010UU_V7.4.2_GENERIC_6.0_20161109-13431478711915353.zip, edited updater-script to remove any references to the partition updates (meaning the old bootloaders will not be touched), and removed the new bootloader images just to be sure . The bootloader will still work as before with SPFT.
@ColtonDRG, @emc2cube, @kal250
Great job @bibikalka
A 6.1 to 6.6 update package may be interesting as current phones are delivered with 6.1 and there is no easy way to update them to 6.5 via regular OTAs.
It will also be easy to upgrade after restoring 6.1 with @ColtonDRG SPFT files.

Are you sure you had 100% stock 6.5 system ? I have not really touched anything but the image files, so the script is working identically to what BLU programmed ...

So your system was modified via those ad blocking scripts, and the update failed ... One option for you is to go back to stock V6.1, and then update it directly.

Yes there is. You can upgrade to 6.4 and then to 6.5 using the OTA zips I have mirrored. Just drop them on the phone and choose them in FOTA (there is an option to choose an update from local storage)

Your system is no longer stock, so the update will fail. Note that I've added a section in post #1 to explain how to go back to stock - you just re-install stock V6.1 Prime from @ColtonDRG , boot to TWRP, and upgrade to V6.6. Then re-apply scripts to remove ads.
What good is this update? Anybody noticed anything relevant?
and that is done on SPFT so there is no loss of data? Just revert back to PRIME 6.1, flash 6.6 via TWRP, then unprime again?

An even better question: why bother upgrading their Prime phone to the latest firmware and then hack it to remove the ads when it can be converted to OEM? Yeah, there's the security fix in 6.6 that's missing in the latest OEM, but unless you like sideloading lots of questionable apps, who cares?

Just for the sake of accuracy, that's potentially (maybe OEM V12 do not contain the vulnerability patched, they are after all different versions) 3 security patches which are missing on the OEM: we got 6.1 patched to 6.4, 6.5 and 6.6.
Unfortunately as with many (all?) of their devices, BLU usually don't bother about updating the system. That's also why phones are cheap, there is no support provided and as often you get what you pay for.
I'm fine with that as for me it's a backup phone when traveling (dual sim!) or to mess up with.
I may be wrong on this one, and will be more than happy to admit so, but I do not think we will EVER get the band 12 update nor Nougat on the OEM, but as Amazon have a strong android division I would not be surprised that behind the scene they will be providing support and updates for the PRIME version. At least to be sure the ads are working and not bypassed too easily by the majority of the users, it's fair game after all.
You can also be sure that both amazon and BLU guys are reading this forum, I just wish some of them gave us a hand on how to improve the phone and were not just trying to revert all of our changes

Yes, indeed. But just in case, do boot TWRP and do a backup beforehand.

That's my thinking too. Without ads the PRIME ROM may be the most up to date one. This calls for your scripts to be able to carefully rename all the stuff you want to disable, and then right before the ROM upgrade have another script which could rename all the files back and restore system to stock condition. You can actually have just 1 restore script to rename every possible file back that your original TWRP scrips could rename. This will be relatively straightforward, and clean.

That was it, just go into settings on Super SU, click unroot and then reboot. I haven't checked on the flag set, but under settings it still says "custom", so I am assuming the flag is set.

Well, I have an answer as to whether root will work on this new FW, and the answer is yes! One odd thing though, when it was done rooting and it rebooted, I got a message about the FW update failing, which is obviously wrong since I successfully updated the FW, it must trip something that makes the device think an update failed.

make sure you unfreeze any apps. if you uninstalled the apps via titanium then you may have to odin back to stock. some of these updates look to see if the files it needs to update exist.
also, if the update fails to go through the first time (after actually downloading it) and you the the error gotta use kies warning. just boot into recovery and wipe cache and try again.
as a confirmation, bean's root still works. i didn't get the update failed though. i rebooted fully after accepting the update before running the root.
i don't see much improvement in speed yet, but chrome is all i've tested as the old reader's site runs crappily slow in landscape still (but it doesn't seem as crappily bad). vertical runs smoother though. if the old reader is taxing on chrome then overall chrome should be better. i haven't run any benchmarks and never will. a 100% increase from .01 seconds to.005 seconds only makes bars on comparison charts bigger without actually affecting the performance in real life.

Agreed, it feels smoother, I haven't played with multiuser much but do you have to reinstall all apps on the new accounts? Would it take up a lot of space?

That's probably it, all I froze before unrooting and applying the update were the Knox apps (which I also happened to forget to unfreeze), I didn't touch FOTA or Software Update.
I've done a bit of searching and can't seem to find the answer. This is my first smart phone tbh so rooting is fairly new to me. BEFORE I rooted my phone (using CF-Auto-Root), the phone had updated to Android 4.4.3. After rooting it had returned to 4.4.2, I'm assuming this is because the device got flashed by CF-Auto-Root to firmware version 4.4.2 but modified to include SuperSU. I don't really care that it got flashed to a lower version, however I do want to know how to update it. Do I simply have to wait until ChainFire releases a rom (it is a rom right?) that's 4.4.3? Or is there some other method to update the firmware. If I do have to wait, how do I know when there is a new version to flash with?
You had 4.4.3? There is no samsung 4.4.3 available yet as far as i know...from samsung or leaked. Unless I missed it which I pretty sure I havent

I think you might have just accidentally misread it. 4.4.3 was never pushed out yet. And chain fire's root tool wouldn't have downgraded anything. All it does is temporarily flash a modified recovery, root the phone, delete the recovery, then reboot into the OS again. Nowhere in that process does it upgrade/downgrade the software or firmware. Oh, and it's not a ROM, it's just a ODIN file that contains a recovery and root zip) :good:

I did not misread it, it said it was downloading a software update, my phone restarted (I think), then under the About Device section the "Android version" said 4.4.3. I have absolutely 0 doubt about it, I remember checking (for whatever reason) after rooting and noticed it had returned to 4.4.2. I don't know what happened or what it was, but it said I had 4.4.3.
EDIT: Thanks for explaining what CF does, that's quite clever. Also does make it "downgrading" less likely. But I'm positive it did, or my device lied to me about updating.

It's weird that your baseband and your software versions don't match. A lot of things don't add up here, but I'm not doubting you got 4.4.3. It happens sometimes when manufacturers try to test an update, and you must have checked for updates at the exact same time.
If you go to a random samsung app, like the Phone app, and go to "App Info", what does it say as the version? It would be "4.4.2-G900TUVU1ANE6" for me.
These are the version numbers for 4.4.3: Look at the G900H since it's the same as your phone.

See this is the weird part. There was no way the root file would have downgraded you to this. How long did it take to flash cf auto root? Probably 15 seconds. For the phone to downgrade every app and the whole system partition would take a minimum of 5-10 minutes. Meh, who knows. :silly:

Yeah I dunno, it was pretty quick. Regardless of how it downgraded it. How do I upgrade it later? I get it's not readily available at the moment, but since the software update button no longer works how will I do it later? Is it as simple as unrooting, then updating, then rerooting? If so...would it just downgrade it again "some how".

Once you root, you can't get OTA's anymore. You would have to use ODIN to flash the newest software which would wipe all your data. The other option is to just flash a stock rom in a custom recovery since you're rooted anyway.

....Right. So, I assume there will be some kind of instructions for this when 4.4.3 is officially released? I'd look into how to do what you say now except there would be no point.

1. Follow this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2697762
2. Find a rom in the "development" section that says it's a stock rom. It should say wether or not it's an ODIN or zip file. (example, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2770616)
3. Just flash that without wiping and if there is a corresponding firmware file (usually also posted in the same thread), flash that with ODIN.

One would then assume that the dirty-cow method will no longer work. It was supposed to have been patched as early as Nov security patch, so I guess new updates to V8 will have no root yet.
Maybe Chainfire's FlashFire could help? Search for eu.chainfire.flash in the Google Play Store.

Official OTA. Phone's all stock.
Is there way to do install this new firmware 8.3 unmodified as sent from manufacturer thru OTA if my phone is already modified? Is Wireless Update app safe to do upgrade to 8.3?
Few month ago I used Dirty Cow on 6.6 to root and unlock bootloader, I then installed TWRP and from TWRP I installed modified 7.4.2 from vampireinfo thread, the one without preloader_p6601.bin, lk.bin, logo.bin, secro.img, trustzone.bin, uboot.img and without Amazon apps and adds.
Seeing this device is no longer supported I would like to revert to factory ROM to have up to date and working phone. I don care about SuperSu or rooted phone, this is useless.

The only way to go back unmodified is to go back to locked bootloader, stock recovery, and stock rom first. It's an unchangeable path. Because going that way will change the preloader(take away sp flash tool as a means of unbricking)
And then if the update goes "side ways" could be a problem.
But possible if you want to.
Outline of what's needed- not realy a step by step tutorial.
1. Make sure sp flash tool is working.
If not working because of previous update, need to go forward in order to go back.
What I mean is, more modification ,by rolling back preloader.
2. Flash an oob (out of box) backup
3. Take official updates, and hope things do not brick.
OR
Wait a day or two, and the update will be made available to be flashed in twrp.
I have already made the system update work in v17, flashed in twrp, next will be test out the boot.img update, then change it from a patch update into a rom.
Your choice.
**UPDATE**
Full rom install complete

I don't think we lost root , it you have it already. But it you don't Already have root the security update pass the November date you loose the dirty-cow exploit. And without that the way we unlock bootloader is lost. And you need to be able to do that , to install recovery, etc, etc.

What ever version people are on is the only patch that will work for that device you can't mix and match patches cause they simply won't apply.
The patches check the hashes and only applies to apps, and binaries that match.
While you could apply 7.4.2 to V17 only a small part would apply, basically not worth the effort.
Hopefully people using different versions captured their update and uploads it, would be nice to have version from every version that got an update.

Right.
I had to install v7.4.2 to apply patches. I tried to just apply patches to the boot.img on the ext-sd card (tried following an old apply-patch guide) but had trouble because the sha1 of the boot.img when it was not on the boot partition did not match. (Over my head this morning)
So I have the patch working and booting for 7.4.2 without the preloader change.
I would like to make it a rom.zip instead if a patch. As soon as I know how to do that will upload.
The new update has added this interesting privacy policy to the setup. And by default it is set to allow sharing data with Blu.
Hello all - the Oreo beta is now officially over for all devices and unofficial beta devices may need to be manually migrated to the release branch:
Note: Your device will receive OTAs after this update.
Note: Please use Updato or SamMobile to acquire the latest firmware for your device if you use AT&T or Verizon, or use XAA for a clean, unlocked experience.
1. Use SamFirm to acquire the latest Oreo build for your device (if not AT&T or Verizon).
Enter SM-G950U/SM-G955U/SM-G955U1 depending on your model.
Enter your desired carrier code, or XAA for unlocked (common are TMO, SPR)
Select Auto, Check CRC32, and Decrypt Automatically.
Click Download
2. Once the download is done, extract the archive.
3. Use the patched Odin 3.13.1 from @realbbb. This is necessary for carrier-switching, including to unlocked/debranded/XAA.
4. It is safe to use HOME_CSC to preserve your data, but if you're switching to an unlocked build or switching carriers, you MUST use CSC (data will wipe).
5. You can also use CSC to wipe your data and get a fresh factory start.
Previous post:
Howdy - here's how to get Oreo!
OLD PROCESS FOR BETA 1-2 IS BELOW - Move on to Beta 4 below!
Credit to @norbarb for the leaked update!
Try at your own risk - this is for the brave
First, read this:
Code:
Since we don't have a flashable CSC for the unlocked firmware, your phone will be branded with whichever SIM you have inserted.
This means your unlocked S8+ will become a TMO S8+, for example. It all depends on the inserted SIM.
This is compatible with G955U/U1 and G950U/U1.
Warning: Back up your data! Your phone will be reset.
Step 1: Be on the AQGL baseband. Skip the below steps if you're already there.
You can do this by downloading your AQGL package and ODIN below. Extract the ZIP, open ODIN, and connect your phone in download mode.
Then, select (from the ZIP you just extracted) BL, AP, CP, and CSC (NOT home csc) in their respective slots. Don't change any other options. Select Start.
After this is done, your device will boot into recovery.
Tip: If you're getting verification errors in ADB, you likely don't have the latest version installed.
NEXT!
Step 2: Flash the Oreo update package:
Download the Oreo update package below.
Connect your phone to your computer while it is in recovery.
You must have ADB installed. Open command prompt or terminal.
Sideload the package by typing "adb sideload XXXXXX".
You may see multiple errors/warnings. Ignore them.
DO NOT touch or unplug the device until it reboots on its OWN!
Last step
Open your device, and perform a factory data reset. This is mandatory.
New! - Update your Google Play Services to v940. Thanks @Dudash
Code:
As always, anything you from XDA is done at your own risk! There's a chance that someone got something wrong, and you could mess up your device! Please - if you want to be safer, wait until a bunch of people have tried a given ROM/procedure/tool before you try yourself!
There's a bit too much instability for the moment in the update schedule. Once the correct build is confirmed as Beta 4, I'll update the OP to the new method.
Thanks for sticking around, guys!

Hi all, here's the new process for beta build installation:
1. Install BQK5 (Nougat)
2. Install Oreo
That's all, and here's how:
[1.] Odin to BQK5. This will wipe your data. You must do this no matter what software you're currently on.
Select CSC_OYN, not HOME_CSC.
Important: This update contains bootloader 2, which means that you can no longer install any updates based on bootloader 1 (i.e., AQJC).
All new updates are based on B2, so you'll need to eventually do this anyway.

Question one, I checked for updates and it still says it can check for them. So I believe that is a yes.
2. Depends on your baseband you have and carrier. Aqgl is the lastest baseband for Sprint phones I know for sure. So the new one is the Oreo one being a completely different version.
3. Only way to revert is data reset. Wipe the whole phone and take it back to the way you got it.
4. Knox and all the stuff still works. Samsung pay and all that. So Knox doesn't get tripped.
I have found so far everything I use works fine or better than before. Substratum is working flawlessly along side samsung themes. I can't stand their keyboard so I ditched that. Camera is way better. Setting are more open with way more options. I don't see a downside. I turned off my other s8 that is rooted to use this as my daily driver.

1) While it appears to "check for updates", you will not get updates. We all will have to wait for a developer to load the next version files for us, again.
3) A factory reset WILL NOT REVERT YOU TO NOUGAT. You will need to download and flash via Odin the appropriate .zip file.

@dmezh,
Thanks for bringing this over from the AT&T thread. I've been on this for a couple of days now, an it has been flawless for me. Zero issues. It's my daily driver now.
And I want to emphasize to all users, the importance of your instructions regarding factory reset: on a major system update like this you have a big risk of system conflicts resulting in issues if you choose not to. It's a lot less work in the long run to just bite the bullet and do it now.

I'm ok with delayed updates but more than a week is honestly unacceptable. Especially since T-Mobile and OnePlus are trying to push this as being almost the same as buying unlocked. (I know they have listed differences and mentioned delayed updates) but if you ask a regular sales person they will brush most of that off. The only reason i'm keeping my T-Mobile OP is because i want to experiment with trying to flash the global OOS when it's available.
I think everyone is overreacting about delayed updates...I think most of us are just gonna unlock the bootloader after the first month..which means Roms which means that ur updates will no longer come from TMO.. Everyone needs to relax lol.

I think everyone is overreacting about delayed updates...I think most of us are just gonna unlock the bootloader after the first month..which means Roms which means that ur updates will no longer come from TMO.. Everyone needs to relax lol.

My question is why would a random custom ROM work but not the global OOS? If the modem can't be modified then why would a random ROM work. Also if the modem can't be modified because it's specific to T-Mobile how would the phone work on other carriers once unlocked? What they are telling us isn't making a whole lot of sense.

If your talking about SIM unlock it's through T-Mobile. Bootloader unlock is here https://support.oneplus.com/app/ans...-bootloader-for-oneplus-6t-(t-mobile-version)

I'm ok with future delayed updates, I'm NOT ok with the phone missing features that were advertised at launch. That's the only thing bugging me.

It's a possibility that the efs partition is locked and can only be modified by a signed ROM. The global OOS could be expecting this partition to be open as on the unlocked version.
The global OOS could be modified to simply not update this partition. Just like a custom ROM would only update the system partition. But out of the box, the global OOS might not work.
This is just speculation, or it could be corporate speak just to deter this kind of process. We'll find out once we start getting our unlock bin files.

Wouldn't the EFS partition need to be modified if another carriers SIM card is used?

No, but it's possible to be updated during an official update. You'd be able to use any sim as the radio info is already written to the partition. I'm literally just spitballing. In all honesty, I'm expecting it to just be corporate speak to make their new partner happy. I don't think we're going to have too many issues converting one phone into the other.

Hopefully that's the case
