Help rooting! - Verizon Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Heya, In a previous forum thread I said that I had soft-bricked my phone due to a failed rooting attempt. I had help fixing the soft brick, but now I want to try at rooting again. I'm using a Samsung Galaxy S5 Verizon Android Marshmallow 6.0.1 (g900vvru2dpf4) and I am having trouble figuring out to root. Please help!

First of all make a backup with Samsung smart switch or whatever way you prefer and backup all other important data to your computer
Downgrade to pb1 or ok3 firmware flash in Odin in pda /as slot in odin
download firmware from sammobile. Com
then got to JrKruse ok3 root method here

To get bootloader unlock you first have to be rooted then head here
Download emmc brick bug check app this will tell you your Cid if it is 11........ Then it is Toshiba emmc and can't be bootloader unlocked
if it is 15............ It can be bootloader unlocked it is a Samsung emmc

Heya, so I tried to download the firmware from SamMobile but, it just gives me a 404 not found error. Do you have a fix for this or another website to get the firmware?

I have a problem, when I try to use Samsung Smart Switch, my phone reboots in a weird way. I mean, I use the fingerprint locker, so when I start to back up my data, the phone reboots in a second and I have to use my password to unlock it, thus stopping the process of back up. What is going on ?

Try Samsung kies 3

In about phone there is:
Model number
Android version
Baseband version
Kernel version
Build number
SELinux status
Which one of these items do you consider the "firmware"?
Why bother with learning any of the details at all? Just guess at an answer!

When you first connect with ADB, the phone has a prompt on it to continue. So pay attention to what's on your phone screen when you try to root, it will be asking for confirmation.

Any improvements in this one? Is it worth flashing?
wait i'm confuse between this ,kies method, 138 MB tmobile OTA (i'm rooted so no go ) update and the 1.6GB firmware on sammobile . I'm running rooted ANJ7 baseband version so which path should i take to upgrade ? which of these do i get to keep my data and phone setting ?
If you flash the smaller file OP posted you will not lose your files. If you flash the full 1.6 GB version, it will essentially put your phone back to stock, wiping all your data in the process. Which is good if you want a clean start, but not so much if you only want to update your baseband and modem (and firmware). Personally, I flash the full 1.6 version for a clean start when an update is released, then restore my apps with Titanium backup. But it's up to you, honestly.
Flashed using Mobile Odin.

I was able to flash my baseband/modem from my extracted firmware, modem.bin using Odin v3.09,
and
ur bootloader also using Odin v3.09,
just wanted to let u know it worked just fine,
thanks for the bootloader file... saved me some time instead of doing the firmware... :good:
Very cool.
I may go ahead and flash the bootloader.
Hadn't yet cause on the tmobile s4 it was important to never update the bootloader.
Mine still doesn't have knox.
Running latest cm nightlies.
And using the nh7 modem.

I always update my modem/baseband.
Samsung/tmobile are trying to make reception better with each release, and all.
I've also heard people say if it ain't broke don't fix it.
Knowing how to update your modem/baseband without updating your bootloader is a good skill either way.

HELP! Soft Bricked my Note 3 Verizon Rooted, (unlocked bootloader I think?)

I just got my OF1 stock Verizon note 3 today. The CID did start with 15, so I went ahead and rooted, rooting went fine and worked. I then tried jrkruse bootloader unlock method, I think it worked because the picture of an unlocked lock with the word custom appeared when booting. Also in Download mode it said status was custom.
So I went ahead and used flashify to flash the twrp 4.4 for my phone, the latest one, and now I cannot boot at all. It says take the phone to a verizon store for help. I think it was just a bad twrp flash but not sure.
Can someone help?

I thought Huawei sell their phones off contract. By the way you can contact your operator so that they can install Vodafone EMUI. Even if you install firmware you still will be able to use your network. For apps download them from play store.

No, you will have be more carefull after rooting, for prevent mistakes, now you will have to reinstall yor rom again to unroot your device.

I bricked my S7 Edge, might need some help please

Hi guys,
So yesterday i was trying to install the One UI rom to my S7 Edge, but i messed up in the process. I think the problem started when i installed the latest version of TWRP (twrp-3.3.0-0 i think), and then i reinstalled a previous version of TWRP over this one (twrp-3.2.3-0).
Anyway, after doing this my phone went into full bootloop with the logo "SAMSUNG S7 EDGE ...." on the screen. No big deal i thought, i'll just flash a stock rom with odin, but everytime that i try, i keep getting the same error "sboot.bin -> FAIL!".
I already tried :
- Using differents versions of odin, especially the latest (3.13.1)
- Downloading differents roms (marshmallow, nougat, lollipop)
- Using a different usb port
- Restarting my pc multiple times
This is the SM-G935F btw.
Thanks
Just flash the latest firmware via odin. Tell me you model number and I'll send you the link to what firmware you have to flash. Also tell me what firmware are you currently flashing which is giving error

Yup that is why you are getting the sboot.bin error. It means the bootloader on your phone is newer than the one you are trying to flash. That's why it fails. On you phone screen you would have a error binary 4 device 5. Something like this.
