Can't swipe left using Nexus Launcher - Moto G4 Plus Questions & Answers

Ok guys so I just bought this phone. Came from a MOTOG3.
One of the first things I've managed to do was installing the leaked Nexus Launcher. It works fine, except from the fact that I can't swipe left from my home screen to access the Google seach app directly. I can't understand why, as it worked fine in my old device. Could someone help me please?
PS.: Yes, I've already disabled and enabled the option again as you can see in the screenshot.

SS

Because The Nexus Launcher isn't installed as a system app on your phone .

Delete a Program Shortcut

Just a heads up if no one knew... Instead of going through the system setting to delete a program, just highlight the icon of THAT game/APP/program and drag to the garbage at the bottom and hold there. You will get a "drop to uninstall" option and vua-la... hope that helps...
The thing is that that only works with apps that we downloaded ourselves. Most of wanna get rid of the apps that came preinstalled. (Which can only be done with root)

Forgot to mention that... Thanks. Only works with apps we download,
not pre installed...

Wow, what great timing. I don't mean to hijack your thread haha.
If you don't want to uninstall apps but you don't want to see them in the drawer, then the the newest version of LauncherPro can help (if you already use it)! I literally just updated like 10 minutes ago and it has a feature to hide shortcuts from the app drawer! Best feature evaaaaaar.

[Q] missing/lost home pages...

i posted this in ppc geeks thread as well (i'm stating this because i got fussed at for 'double posting' lol!) but couldnt find a solution to my problem, anywho...my son was trying to help me work the self camera, in the process, a pop-up came up asking if we wanted to use either of 2 programs that were listed in the pop-up (for the life of me i cant remember the name of the 1st one, i think it was something "messaging'' and the 2nd one was something with the letters "tw" in it. he clicked on the 1st offering and then clicked on the bottom that stated something to the effect of 'use this program from now on...' the problem is that by his clicking on whatever he clicked on, i now have all my apps on one page and i have to 'drag' that one page up to access them, they are located on a grey tab thingy....I DONT WANT THAT! i want my apps to be spread over the like 3-4 pages like i had it in the beginning but dont know how to undo the damage my son did...i also had a page of bookmarks and they are now gone ;-( can anybody tell me what we did wrong and how to fix it? i really want my apps back and all my bookmarks and homepages!!!
I think u accidentally changed the default launcher, to fix this u can go to settings-applications-manage applications-scroll to touchwiz launcher and then click on it and then click clear defaults. Click the home button and that popup will show again, this time choose tw as ur deafault. Another way is to download the free app home switcher .

Hmm thats weird, r u rooted? If u are can u send me a screenshot using shootme? Ur homescreen sounds like stock android so I figured that was the prob, but maybe im wrong. If u can, do a factory reset, but if u dont want to do that then try using a home replacement such as launcher pro which can be downloaded from the market and see if u like how that looks.

Also if you download another launcher like launcher pro... and then run that app, the next time you press the home button you'll et the prompt asking which homescreen, and you'll be able to go bck to the twlauncher again... but this time, make that ur default, or don't check the default mark and have none.

GenieWidget.apk (News and Weather app)

Over the years I've grown quite fond of the News and Weather app. Unfortunately, it seems that it does not come pre-installed on the Nexus 7 so I figured I would just move it from my Galaxy Nexus to my Nexus 7. Sadly, I cannot seem to get it to work...
What I did:
Copied GenieWidget.apk from my Galaxy Nexus
Moved GenieWidget.apk to my Nexus 7's /system/app directory
Modified the permissions of the .apk to 644
Rebooted
Any ideas?
grab a new apk online
it's working on my nexus 7
and i remember simply opening the apk, not having to put it in system and edit, etc
The new apk? I assumed the apk on my JB Galaxy nexus was the newest. You see, I would really prefer to install the .apk from my phone if at all possible as it hasn't been out of my sight.
Though, if could give me a link to the apk you're referring to I would appreciate it.
On a similar note, I seem to be having the same problem with both BrowserGoogle.apk and CameraGoogle.apk.
Any other ideas...?
Its part of gapps... flash a gapps package.

Seems like the easy way out. I was really hoping to get the method in the op working properly as it may be useful for other applications (see my previous post).

Have you tried installing the apk. Thats how I got it on mine. My only issue is that I can't seem to enter the settings menu for it to add my own topics.

That was the first thing I tried. One would have to be crazy to go through all this for no reason...

This one just worked fine for me, though like mentioned, cannot access settings to adjust anything on it owing to the N7 not placing a menu button anywhere. Still, quite nice. Wish I could scale it a bit and customize it.
hi guys, any have the apk but with ICS transparency? Many thanks for that!!!
genie widget... not able to install by any method
I tried about 10 apks
direct install
pushed to system/app
and two zip flashed from cmw

Thank you

Hi, I've attached an ICS version that has the settings/menu button in the bottom right corner that allows you to adjust the options.
It works fine on the Nexus 7.
Hope it helps!

I didn't think I'd ever get this news app to work on my Nex 7, but it does! Feeling like Doc Brown right now-- except I didn't put in any work! Thanks, man! :highfive:
BTW, didn't need to put it in the system folder; it opened right up from the root folder (such that it is) with settings and widget available.

[Q] Weird button problem...

I just started having a problem with my Nexus 4... the onscreen buttons won't work. I can't use the home, recent apps, or back button when I hold the phone in portrait mode. I have to use apps in landscape mode to get the buttons to work. I thought maybe that side of the screen had gone bad, but touches register in the same space in other apps. Anyone have a clue as to why this might be?
Nope, but you may wish to include further information (e.g. ROM, kernel, settings, recently installed apps or launchers)

Oh, sorry forgot about all of that information.
Stock! It's definitely stock rom, not sure if it was rooted and messed with beforehand (brother gave it to me after he bought the gnii). He gave me the phone back in Christmas and it has been fine. Stock launcher. The day the buttons stopped working I didn't install anything. Just took a few photos and next time I tried to use the phone the buttons didn't work.
I've done a factory reset. Still the same.

[Launcher] GEL Launcher

Guys i tried Google Experience Launcher on Kindle Fire HDX 7 (Cpasjuste's rom installed - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2607185 - )
Works smooth, widgets and wallpaper works.
I just wanted to share

I was hoping it'd remove FireOS's stupid buttons and give the stock android buttons, back, home and app switcher.

Yes I also tried this, I did it from a diffent link but the launcher actually runs off the Google search app so it should be the same experience and its great, only thing I don't like is the fact that when I hold down apps to move them on the home screen when in landscape the tablet flips orientation and it is annoying. Everything works in portrait though.

I have a solution for that ,
When you open app in landscape mode , touch the navigation buttons button then pull down the notification bar and lock the auto rotation, it should be stop rotating.

Thanks, I've already paid for that app and while nice, I still prefer the stock app switcher button. The aosp rom would've been best, I'd even take CM if we ever get either of those working well.
New to all of this custom rom and rooting stuff so please excuse me if some of my questions aren't good.
Do I need to root and use a rom slot to run this or can I just use it as a launcher and still get widgets/wallpapers to work?

Yes you have to have root permissions ,rom slot -custom rom installed- , otherwise dont use any other mods you have possibility of bricking your device.

Nope, those buttons are part of the OS, not the launcher.

This is because HDX has a "reverse orientation" compared to most tablets. So what happened is the app rotate to what was "normal" landscape, then autorotate 180 to proper landscape.
There's a patched launcher that implements the reverse orientation that's a part of the HDX Gapps V2 (forgot which topic) but I have a feeling that this may need to be an Xposed module that "patch" the launcher itself.
