Huge news now that US Govt is involved
Who knows what could happen now. Whole new ball game
We can all thank biased Consumer Reports for this. Now it says they will replace the Note 7 with a brands new Note 7 pending CPSC approval. Consumer Reports is very biased against several companies yet the ignore companies that put out flawed devices and blindly ignore major issues, ( cough, cough, Apple, cough, cough).

Yeah, I need my "Gallery" Note 7 replacement! Hopefully Samsung can explain the issue and how they corrected it and that government moves at the unlikely speed of "Quickly"!
I'm keeping my Note 7 until replacements are available. According to Samsung less than .1% of phones are affected. That's pretty good odds. I'm good.

I am in no way trying to spread fear mongering but I believe the correct number is 70% of devices made have the potential to malfunction. Of that 70% 35 (and climbing) devices have malfunctioned. I am also keeping both of my note 7s until I can get a replacement.
Incorrect. 70% of all Note 7 batteries were made by SDI, but it was a small batch of that 70% that have the issue.
Sent from my SM-N930T using Tapatalk
Also, this just means that the Consumer Product Safety Commission will make it mandatory that Samsung replace them. So far it's been voluntary. The only way they could possible be assured that all are replaced is if once all of us who have them or who are owed one via the temp phone program the carriers have been doing is to remotely brick them with a message to return them. There will be a certain percentage of morons who insist on keeping theirs because "nothing has gone wrong so far". It really shouldn't delay the replacement as there are too many in the wild.

Actually is said "Samsung SDI supplied 70 percent of the batteries fitted into the 2.5 million estimated Galaxy Note 7 units that have so far landed in consumer hands and stores. The other 30 percent of batteries have been provided by Chinese battery maker ATL.". I have not seen anything say that NO Chinese manufactured phone did NOT have an SDI battery in it. I think there is an assumption that they probably had the Chinese ATL battery but has Samsung specifically put it in writing anywhere that no Chinese manufactured phone potentially has this issue?

I think samsung WILL brick all the bad ones at least in the US by blacklisting the IMEI.
You can actually check your battery here in ES file explorer, someone posted here on XDA somewhere:
device/sys/class/power_supply/battery and then open the file batt_type with a text editor and it will most likely say "sdi sdi"

Samsung officially stated it's only .1% devices out of 2.5 million that have the bad battery. Therefore, a small batch (likely a single lot) out if the 70%.

We're hearing from people familiar with the matter that Samsung — which had originally planned to announce its 2012 flagship Galaxy S III phone at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona late next month — has now decided to delay the news. It's unclear when or where the new announcement will be, but we're told that it'll still be out there "before summer." Though MWC seems like a logical choice for the GSIII's unveiling (the GSII was announced there last year), the speculation is that Samsung was uncomfortable with another long lag between the global launch and US availability. The US is a key market for Samsung's mobile business, of course — particularly when the company is successful in getting most or all national carriers to pick it up.
While we don't know what exactly Samsung will be announcing at MWC in the GSIII's place, we understand they'll have "interesting stuff" — perhaps a Galaxy Tab refresh, especially since the 10.1 is getting long in the tooth and we're due for a round of quad-core updates in 2012. A new Windows Phone portfolio is another possibility; there have been rumors that Microsoft will make an announcement at the show, and Samsung is about as strong a Windows Phone partner as Microsoft has outside of Nokia. We'll be following this story closely as it develops.
I posted this here only because a lot of people are/were expecting the SIII to be the runner up to the Note II but if Mods don'e believe it relevant, please remove.

I'm pretty disgruntled with AT&T's tardy release of devices, too. I hope Samsung's going to do something about it. This 4 month delay crap has gotta go.
Important s US is as a consumer market, it is no longer the most important nor the one that generate the highest sales figures.
lol Samsung Gimmicks ...
If they launched SGS III at MWC no one would buy the Galaxy Note as everyone will tend more towards the Quad Core ( I know tech sucks sometimes ) phones. Whether or not Samsung you are doing right, atleast I can have some more quality time with my note

Yes, China is becoming more important then the US I guess. There are models coming out in China that you do not even know about in the US.
Like the Samsung SCH-W999.
But I do not understand why a later announcement would decrease the delay in US availability. I do not see the logical link.

Do not forget the stuff that is already announced.
For example the Galaxy SII LTE HD that is 1280x720 and just a bit smaller then the Note.
It makes sense that the SIII does not get announced before the Note LTE , the SII LTE and the SII LTE HD get globally distributed.
But after that, bang... S III, 5 times faster then everything before.
You are making me depressed. Just stop it I want to have the most powerful phone on the market a little longer. Samsung is such a party pooper! I think i'll have to sabotage.. some stuff..

it's not really a fast release if the phone it's replacing was announced during the last mwc and released in april shortly after.

Exactly... Quadcore even with ICS wouldn't be reason enough for me to switch. Might make me think a bit before buying, but I'm pretty sure I'd still go with the Note...
i just want a note 2 for my next phone, something with a bit more ram so that apps arent shut down and tw doesnt get shut down as often as it does on my note which makes me wait till the homescreens get populated.
guess same reason for OTG being flaky with official and other OTG adapters. but a restart of the phone sorts it out and OTG works fine again.
hope the bugginess decreases with icrecream sandwich as sometimes the bugginess and lag on occassions makes me want to take a refund after returning the phone.
USB host capability is flaky compared to my 5y old archos 605 media player which ALWAYS recognises flash drives and able to copy or paste files easily. the note OTG facility for connecting flash drives and copy pasting files is a distinct and lousy second place compared to my 5y old archos 605 which is faultless for the flash drives connecting functions and connecting cameras etc. plus hub can record tv etc or anything that passes through the hub, even has an EPG so can do timed recordings. wish all those features come for the note 2 or even for this note with a media hub device. but hub should fit phone with all standard accessories like flip case probably will need a connection features like present on phillins fidelio range for android which connects to many android devices and samsung official accessories like hubs dont even fit the note when official flip case is put on. bloody jokers must be hired in their design dept.
There is a market for phones like the note and consumers like me who think bigger is better as the case for every note buyer, the SIII is different from note and when the note II comes out its gonna blow the SIII out of the water

Then they haven't been working there long enough to remember the LG Rumor debacle, or the Palm Pre. When I was fixing rumors due to shredding flex cables and faulty charging ports, our manager authorized free replacements with brand new Rumor 2s, which broke... Just as much, really. Seriously, the original Rumor's port would snap off if a baby sneezed in the same zip code. I have nightmares about that phone and the 65 billion screws it had.
The Palm Pre had the Oreo effect, where the two halves would just start twisting freely, like you were taking apart an oreo. And of course, Palm wouldn't let us repair them, so we had to just swap them with refurbs. We had people that were on their 7th, 8th, 9th devices, but didn't want a different model because of Palm loyalty, and the fact that the Pre had a REALLY nice OS, as compared to early Android.

The forum does not seem to be exploding with this issue, most we find is this thread on it here and see my post lower down that links to sprint users. All of two pages
Things are quiet because LG is replacing the screens under warranty. In my market they offer a 6 month after purchase screen replacement offer. Samsung does the same as well. This means if this problem does not occur within 6 months then it ain't going to happen.
Knowing that this issue may happen and if it does all it takes is a simple screen replacement that too under warranty means i would be less excited if this occurred. An inconvenience to head off to the service center but at least i know i will get it back very likely on the same day because this thing is easy to repair.
Not knowing this can happen otoh would be frightening.
Will be interesting what Sprint will say when I take mine in tomorrow......I will show them this for sure if I get any hassle......I just want my phone!! Grrrr!!

It's a recall that only effected the Sprint, not necessarily CDMA as Verizon is not impacted, but something Sprint added software wise that created a hardware issue. The major symptom is the screen half snow or static, but other issues such as overheating, freezes, bootloops, stuck on LG logo during boot, touch response issues and network connectivity issues. This effects all models manufactured prior to 10/5/15, in which LG modified the hardware to not have an issue with what ever Sprint does with their software. Knock on wood, the only issue I have had is the network connectivity (average 30% without signal) and constant dropping signal and jumping between 3G and LTE. Kinda a pain in the butt, but I do have to say its improved with ZV6, even though not completely gone. Mine was manufactured May 2015.

It sucks
They don't care. It's all about the money.
Over the past couple of years their update policy has gotten much worse than it use to be.
Samsung seem to focus more on hardware than software & it's getting that way if you want the latest version of Android you got to buy their latest Smartphones.
Once the S7 is released in just over 3 weeks time, the S6 while still being one of the best smartphones out there even in 2016, will be all but forgotten & put on Samsung's back burner, you get 6.0.1 but don't expect anything else for a very long time after.
Marshmallow 6.1 is due out in the Summer the S7 will see this at some point, the S6 will have to wait until around early 2017.
Android N
The Note 6 will be the first to see this, the S7 will get it in 2017 probably after the S8 is launched, the S6 will probably still be waiting for Android 6.1.
Update suck big time. But i still enjoy holding the premium smartphone, vibrant 2k display, 35ms touch response, good cpu.
I wish to have cm 13 as daily driver, probably not gonna happen.

Good luck brother, glad to have you while it lasted. I feel your frustration with the battery. Definitely should of added better battery management but oh well I guess. Enjoy the new phone! I'm actually going to keep mine for literally as long as it lasts. Going to replace the battery soon and see if I can squeeze another year out of it or so. I really want the Moto z droid force though. But none of the arrangements except the extra battery.
Rather ironic that you complain about the battery going bad, and you purchased an S7! Certainly hoping it is a fixed one.

The S7, S7 Edge, and Note 7 are the small, medium, large of the "7" series. People lumped them together that way anyway, but this year Samsung skipped the Note 6, so their Note numbering could catch up to their S series. They are numbered the same and have the same design language to all be one group, even though they are released at two different times in the year.

Look it up yourself if it's such a pressing matter
I think it is better. It is lasting all day for me. But if you dont need to upgrade right now. I highly recommend the new lg v20 when it comes out. the thing looks like a beast. I am overall happy with my s7 edge
I really hope this comes out before the end of September. That would be really dumb to miss the opportunity to snatch up the upset Samsung customers (we have until 9/30 to exchange Note 7 for new one or change phones).
Why would they not announce the release date at the big conference??

If they don't release the V20 before the end of the month, and snatch up all of those unhappy Note 7 owners, then someone over at LG should be fired for poor marketing strategy! LoL

+1
Returned my loaner/bridge phone today, making room for the V20.
Not ruling out picking up the Note 7 again, especially if they beat LG to the punch & have it available again before the V20 hits the street.
JMHO,ya can't go wrong w/either,but,since I've already tried out the Note 7, I'd rather have the V20 at this point.
They really need to get this badboy out and about NOW! The timing couldn't be better!!
I was a bit shocked they didn't do a pre-order for the V20. But still, when they announce a phone and do a press conference, they need to at least give a date on availability even if it is up to the carrier to set price.
i read somewhere the V20 will be available at t-mobile i think the 20th or 23rd of this month
There were rumors of a 9/14 preorder

I don't plan on picking up another Note 7 until I get a chance to do some hands on with the V20. I'm perfectly happy with my Note 3 at the moment. It's not as fast as the 7 is, but it does everything I need it to.
One thing that really bugged me about the N7 was the WiFi throughput. My N3 is 3-5 times faster copying files from a local samba share on two different wireless lans.
I absolutely love the N7's camera though. Best camera I've ever seen on a phone.
And if LG doesn't get the V20 out by the 30th, I'll just return the N7.

+1... Can't stand the curved edge on the N7. I thought i could grow to love it but nope. Also my battery didn't last more than 5 hours. I'm a power user and i need at least 6 or 7. Hope the V20 can do the trick.

i can't stand the curved edge either. one of the many reasons i am getting rid of my note 7. well at least with the v20 the battery is removable so i am sure they will come out with longer lasting batteries

This is one of the big reasons I won't buy a Note 7.
Getting a tempered glass screen protector to work on a curved screen? Nope.
The two phones I'm looking at to upgrade from my G4 are the LG V20 and 128GB Nexus Marlin / Pixel XL
That's mostly a choice between having a removable battery and microsd card reader vs having stock Android and more frequent updates.
I can't understand why the Nexus phones don't have MicroSD card readers, and I would never buy a 32GB phone with no microsd card reader in it. But at least it is possible to charge them with a portable battery.
Also, I won't buy a V20 if it doesn't have the ability to unlock the bootloader.

In time as we only have until the 29th to replace the note 7 right?
I'm hoping for a release and price announcement this week. If the T-Mobile rep was correct with his/her information then pre-orders should begin on Wednesday.
And like most of you have already posted in this thread, I can't wait to trade in my S7 Edge for the V20 and go back to a flat screen. The S7E was the first phone I used with the curved edge and after 6 months of using it I can't stand it. This will be the last time.
As of 9/14/16 @0400 EDT, T-Mobile's site has the LG V10 marked down from $599 to $499,the 1st price reduction since a temporary price break about 10 months ago.

My guess is pre-orders for the LG V20 are imminent, look for it later today if you're going by a reddit post stating 9/14 as the preorder launch date & a retail availability of 9/23/16 (T-Mobile US).
