I would love to understand why so many people have problem with GPS. My always locks in 2 to 5 seconds within 10 meters since my first Froyo ROM which was DK17. I don't even need to do any trick to get GPS working. Mater of fact I am still using DK17 modem for DK28 ROM.
So if you have GPS Problem what is your Hardware Version? My is D700.0.5

Edit: My bad. Moderator, can you move this thread to general section? Thanks.
I've been having GPS issues since upgrading to Froyo. I have the same hardware version as u, D700.0.5

Same hardware version for me, Quantum 2.0.0 DK28 ROM, GPS not working.
I'd assume that those of us who have/had GPS issues have them because of the roms / tweaks we've monkeyed around with. My GPS worked OK stock, and broke at some point with screwing around with ROMS, and probably got worse with some 'tweaks/fixes' that I tried after that.
I ODIN'd the stock rom on there, got a lock in Maps, updated to the DK28 modem, and then flashed a DK28 rom, and my GPS works great again.
Please post questions in General section.

It could be very true since many of us are not very technical. We put our total trust on these devs (which I believe most of them are very good) and who knows what exact recipes for their appetizers are. Well that the fact that we all have to accept when we come to use these so called "hacked ROM" right?
Thanks.

Just because urs worked stock doesnt mean it worked for everyone sameway.. theres a uproar about this thing not for no reason.. mine is stock and ,5 version hw also and didnt work at all until i went to dk28-->di18-->gps lock-->dk28.
Now it locks within 5 secs with a 5-10m accuracy which is unbelievable for me.. i just keep looking at the awesomeness every 5-10 mins..
i never enjoyed watching gps lock like this anytime before in my life D
My GPS broke when I updated to dk17, so I read the forums and learned. GPS works on DK28, if you dont trust the devs then blame yourself for your problems, nobody made you flash.

The most serious of the longstanding GPS problems on the Epic -- the periodic failure to achieve satellite lock over time -- has been isolated to a software issue that theoretically can affect all units. The cause is that time-sensitive GPS almanac and ephemeris data stored in a cache is not refreshed properly.
The reason the symptoms do not alway appear for all users is that there are a variety of usage patterns that can cause the cache to get refreshed or cleared serendipitiously as a side-effect of user actions.
The common but temporary workaround for those afflicted is to change the GPS settings to Cold Start, and always use 3G data connections when initializing the GPS. This forces a refresh of the cache.
There is a also different but less serious issue affecting all Epics uniformly: The estimated accuracy reported by the GPS is a fixed, bogus figure of 30.0 meters (98.4 feet) instead of being calculated as a dynamic variable. This is not the same thing as actual accuracy, which is really pretty decent once a multiple-satellite lock is achieved, but some apps treat the 30-meter estimate as significant.
The latter problem is reportedly fixed in the various Froyo firmwares that have been tested. But there is no reliable evidence that the more serious cache bug has been fixed. Testing for that requires more controlled QA discipline than the chaotic xda community typically excercises, and few folks really understand the problem or know how to test the GPS properly, so the anecdotal reports are unreliable. (This has become more confusing because an unrelated problem in the act of flashing the updates appears to break the GPS completely for many testers. If they work around that installation problem, they think their GPS is "fixed." Maybe it is, maybe it isn't.) I have chosen not to install the leaked Froyo versions on my one-and-only phone, so I have not tested the GPS firsthand.
As I don't have the device yet, I need some testers to test early builds of PAC-rom for honami.
Please let me know if you want to help....
Requirements:
- Unlocked bootloader
- A little experience on how to install ROMS via Recovery (CWM/TWRP)
- Preferably know how to get logs (logcat) from the device
Download it here:

Sorry for the slow progress.
I got as far as the "insert coin" animation and then it just looped there. (Not a true bootloop, just stuck at that point with the animation still looping). However, I then tried to flash back to my previously working rom and saw roughly the same behavior, so I'm not completely convinced that the wipe/factory-reset option in the current recovery images is working entirely right.
So, I'm back on pure stock firmware and planning on doing a full sony/google style wipe everything including the internal "sdcard", and trying again from a known clean slate. If I can reproduce the same behavior, I'll call it a bug and send logs. If not, then hopefully I'll have better news.

Ok, thanks man.. Did you flash GAPPS after the ROM though?
If factory reset is not working, you can just wipe the /data partition. That should be enough...
There is an issie with C6902 Models. Somehow they have issues booting AOSP based roms like CM etc.
I'll flash it today. Sorry for the delay Jeroen.. I'm making a web shop for my uncle so don't have a lot of time at the moment. But today I'll flash for sure

OK, I did another install and it seems to be working this time.
Camera is non-functional, I'm sure that's no surprise.
The logs show "LLC length mis-match" repeatedly, although other roms I've run on the Z1 do the same.
So far, everything else seem to be working, but there are quite a few options to run through. I'll try and test out as many features and see if anything else pops up.
For the record, this is on a c6903
I've been living with this rom for a couple of days now, and haven't found any serious issues.
Pie menu works great. Hybrid engine seems fine with various combinations of dpi and layout. The various navigation bar and status bar tweaks seem to do what you'd expect. Same with the power toggles. Haven't delved into halo or gesture settings yet.
I've found that the camera issue is a bit more annoying than I expected, even though I wasn't planning on taking any photos. I know we're all still waiting for a real camera fix, but the "partially working but still buggy" state of the camera in a few of the other roms has been good enough for things like face unlock, qr code scans, etc. I guess you don't realize how much you use that stuff until it's gone.
The hardware info section of the settings seems to be missing a few values, although that appears to be purely cosmetic as all the hardware seems to work fine apart from the cameras. Phone, bluetooth, wifi, gps, etc. all seem fine. I haven't yet tried out some of the more esoteric hardware features (mhl, miracast, etc.)
Fwiw, Antutu is showing lower scores than the last couple of roms I've tried, but that should of course be taken with a grain of salt. (Lies, damn lies and benchmarks.)
I'll report back if anything else pops up.

The ROM has been released officially and an update has been released yesterday!
Thanks for testing!!!
Thinking of moving to ASOP based ( cm or paranoid, etc ) rom.
However the s health app with pedometer is a big miss for these roms.
What are the alternative apps that people are using. I tried a bunch of them but nothing seems to be working well like S health
Thanks
Did you ever find something suitable? I'm looking for the same thing.
Found few but nothing is as good as s health. The biggest issue had been having the app killed. S health runs 24 x 7 with no user input.

Thank you!
Am back to Stock rom :crying:

This one doesn't work for me (CM11 M12). Counts the first step, then shows about 214 million steps... :crying::crying:
Do you guys know of health app that google released a few weeks ago?
Its called google fit
It 's fairly accuuratr in counting steps, determining whether you are running or biking etc etc
It does not have a start button and runs in the background .give it a day or two to sum up all the information
Its available on the playstore(syncs all the data to the cloud also hence you don't lose your progress)
Hi All
for the first time in my Android life, i've kept my phone 100% stock
However, im curious to know if the compass issues have been fixed by custom rom devs?
By issues, i mean Maps constantly telling me to calibrate the compass, and GPS intensive applications (such as Pokemon GO, or others) appear have some minor tracking issues.
I've done some quick searching through the top ROM threads but was unable to find anything
Any thoughts?
Forgot to also add the sensitivity with the screen rotation. I guess that's the gyroscope?
Bump

Hello, Recently I have this issue with the AOSP,GPE and TW ROMS. I test the game Oddworld Stranger Wrath ( have function with Gyro), and it go around (ghost) without I touch or hand my device, this problem occur on all roms, But I just can fix it on TW Roms with the code *#0... "device test" > Sensor and Gyro test, it calibrate and gyro works normal on Oddworld. Now on AOSP Roms and GPE, don' t have this function, and I try many apps from GP to try to fix it, but no results.... The only difference between Touchwiz rom and aosp is "device test" :/, any dev or person can help me please ? I would appreciate and give my thanks.
anyone here ?
Not as many as there were last year. The S4 is rapidly approaching three years old now, and many people have upgraded. In any event, you didn't search the forum, as this is a common question, though it actually has an uncommon answer.
Install Bubble Level from the Play Store and calibrate the gyroscope using it.

well, I used it, but don't solve the problem with gyroscope, you can try by your self and test the game oddworld on CM12.1 and see....
Yeah, well I'm not about to replace my copy of AOSP 7.1.1 with CyanogenMod to do this. I do however see more than one app titled "Bubble Level". Did you install this one?

Yes Sir, Bubble,GPS & Toolbox and others.... but don't give any results. I was think if have the possibility to adapt "device test" from touchwiz for AOSP ROMS, maybe it can fix this problem
To the best of my knowledge, that isn't possible due to the test suite requiring the Touchwiz framework. Honestly, if it's that much of a concern, I'd be installing a stock-based ROM and calling it a day.

Well, So I never will fix the gyroscope drift way on AOSP and CM Roms ? :/
Sure. Install an app that allows you to calibrate the gyroscope. If that doesn't work and a stock ROM does, install the stock ROM.
In case you're having difficulty reading between the lines here, I don't have an issue with my gyroscope and have had AOSP on my S4 for a year and a half now. GPS Status & Toolbox was sufficient to get the job done, and the fact it didn't work for you is a sign of a different problem. A problem with your gyroscope.

When Lollipop become to old OS, I will update my device and try aosp Rom again. Another question Sir, on game vainglory with High settings graphics on (you can set it on config on the game) you can run it without any lags ?
I try to run this game on Aosp 6.0.1, but I get many slow downs.... I think is the driver update on adreno 320 cause this problem. When I back for aosp 5.1.1 or TW 5.0.1, runs without problem on high settings.
You're asking the wrong person. I only have four games on my device, and two of them are chess and yacht. The S4 hasn't been my daily driver since the beginning of 2016.
I will say this however: any AOSP ROM is better than LineageOS or Touchwiz, because AOSP consumes far fewer resources than both.

I flash again AOSP 5.1.1 from JDC Team, on Aida 64 the gyroscope appear (uncalibrated sensor), I try bubble level and Gps tool box, none results.... The drift way is very slow, but I noticed for calibrate it, some experience dev, need build init.d script to fix it or give me patch to apply on it. AOSP 5.1.1 is better than Touchwiz, the games in general fly here.... And battery life is very good.
I seriously doubt an experienced dev is going to create an init.d script just for you, especially when you demand they make a patch for a problem that you seem to be the only one having.
For the record, I just downloaded GPS Status & Toolbox from the Play Store specifically so I could calibrate the sensors. No problems with calibration, and the calibration persists, as my tricorder app now shows the correct orientation for the compass when it didn't before. I don't know what else to tell you. It's working here without a problem, so if it's not working for you there's another issue.
