Hey guys, i did a test with two omnia 7s and this is what i got
I got an omnia last december (left) and another a month after (right).
There is a blue tint on the left omnia's screen. the screen actually looks duller than the other. It's less bright and has slight colour differences.
I'd like to note that omnia on the left had a blue tint with the screen protector on, and it appears to be the same even after i removed the screen protector (which is what you see in the pictures)
Maybe you guys with omnia want to tell us how your omnia's display looks from an angle then we can see if this blue tint issue is truly normal or not
Hello there!
My girlfriend recently purchased a "Garnet Red" Galaxy S III (int) and while she loves it, she really doesn't like the red buttons. Does anyone know if these buttons are red because the LEDs are red or because of the voltage?
Here's hoping it's just the voltage, thus making them moddable. Or at least reasonably moddable.
Thanks!
I think the Led's are white and the screen has colored at the bottom.
Look at this youtube video around 12:55 - 13:20 min.

I see, might have to look into doing that then. Had it been my phone, I would have done it no question but it might be good for her to have her warranty and so on. Anyway, thank you so much for the answer and have a great day/night!
Hi,
Samsung S4 owners please help. Just received mine and everything looks good, however the screen has a red/burgundy tint on blacks in total darkness.
For testing I closed the camera lens and took picture so it's totally black, when you look at the picture in the dark it's not black and has red colos in it comparing to my Note ii and LG Optimus G.
If you have the same problem please post, so I can return it in two week period or switch for HTC ONE.
Thanks,
My screen is 100% black on darks. It looks like its completely off.

I have this too, it's not the OS as the screen was very very dark red when I was soft-bricked.
Yep, same here.

Confirming
Just back from 2 AT&T stores to check if demo S4 has the same problem, and confirming YES the blacks in total darkness is more like super dark dark red not 100% black.
The AT&T rep confirmed and said "If you don't like it, return it".
Also I found topic that covers this problem regarding red subpixels being active when displaying black , but the international version is fixed after firmware update.
So I think only US AT&T models affected with no fix for now.
Another thing I found is that if I scroll really fast on a black background there's a reddish haze on the screen.
Turn your brightness all the way down, go into a dark room, open settings, and scroll really fast up and down.
Does this happen to everyone else?

Just checked and I don't have any haze when scrolling fast, but do have red subpixels being active when displaying black.

I Have the Sprint model and also experience this problem. There are several issues I have with this phone. Lag, software glitches, keyboard issues etc. And these occur on every S4 I have used which is several, none Exynos versions though. They rushed the release is what I think. They should have fixed the issues being compained about before release.

There is a long thread in the international S4 forum discussing this. There are two different screen problems, either red pixels are on when displaying blacks, or you get smearing on greys/purples over blacks. Samsung just released a firmware updste for the intrnational version that gets rid of the red pixels for those who had that issue, but it makes their screen smear. So no everyone has the smearing problem with tbe international version. Hopefully they can address the smearing problem with firmware soon. I can imagine some games being affected pretty badly by this issue.
Samsung S4 AT&T Version Red subpixels on black stay on.
See attached sample image. Easy to see in total darkness when brightness all the way down, red pixels visible on any black, picture, menu, web etc.. except boot logo.
The image made in total darkness, for black sample opened 100% black background.

AT&T Update did not resolved the red subpixels on problem.
Received update this morning from AT&T. There was a hope for a fix of the red subpixels glow, but the problem still the same after update.
Returning mine.

Thats a shame. I was really hoping Samsung would address this sooner than later.

I also have the red subpixels on my sprint sgs4
I had this on my first S4. My GF didn't on hers. I took it back to the store and they looked at me like I was crazy (didn't argue that fact).
Rep took it to the back to show manager and pull another phone and he told me that this was common enough that they got an email about it from HQ.
New unit didn't have the problem.
Not only are blacks with a redish tint, but another way to tell if the screen has this problem is press the menu button. Then, it is easier to tell a good screen vs a messed up screen because they are clearly a different color. Easier to show them that instead of minimum brightness, in a dark room, you can see it I swear kind of argument.
I wish I would have taken a pic to post the differences.

Thanks for reply,
So you just went to store and replaced bad one for good one? So maybe it's a first ones with this problem? I visited 2 different stores and demo units red as well, they said that all devices they have in stock is the same shipment 60 or so units. Will try next week.
Thanks again.

Yea, just head over to AT&T and swap it out. A display issue such as this is very rarely addressed in firmware and has to be replaced.
I replaced my unit yesterday no questions asked(kinda) as they're very aware of the myriad of issues some early devices have. Just don't use too much tech jargon like "pixels" "true black" "contrast ratio" etc. or you might get blank stares as I did lol. Good luck.
I have the T-Mobile version and have this also. I noticed it when I first turned it on. I had an S3 before so I know how black the AMOLED screens can get. I don't mind much since it's just when it's displaying blacks and I haven't seen it much except for boots. I think I have the smearing too but I just look at it as motion blur :silly:
Try turning off the auto brightness. My S4 does the same thing only when auto brightness is on.
does this happen on all models, random models, or only white/black models?
I'm curious to see if this is a potential side-effect of that semi-transparent digitizer (like the notification screen-glow thing that was mention in other threads).
Well, I actually noticed it with my Samsung Galaxy Note 3 16Gb N 9005 version.
When I go into settings and open "Accounts" or when I hold the home button to see apps running, I can see the back light on the lower half of the screen. Well, I can see the back lights because the background is black. Whether I'm using it the screen with 100% brightness or less possible, it's the same.
However, when I'm viewing dark pictures or gallery or many other parts that has a black or dark background I can't see the back light. Unfortunately I don't have a picture of it cause I don't own any other camera than my phone to show it to you.
Well, I just wanted to know if it's actually normal to see the back light on the screen as I explained above or is it that my device is a defect one or is there some sort of setting that can change it.
My friend has the N9000 but I can't see the back light on his screen. I'm a little worried.
Thank you in advance for your replies and help!
I've got the 16GB N9005 as well. The screen doesn't have perfectly dark blacks.

Correct. I was under the impression this was unavoidable as it is the lcd reflecting the backlight.
Maybe I didn't understand your question.

Thank god, I thought my device was a defect one!
I hope it can just be fixed with an update!
Does the 16gb version have an lcd panel ?
Sent from my SM-N9005 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
You have a defective screen.
AMOLED displays don't even have a backlight, individual pixels themselves lightup when needed and go off when it's black.
Unless the 16GB version has an LCD display - which I am not aware of.
16GB? Really?

Well, I don't know if it's the back light actually. However when I go into settings and then account on the lower half of the screen, I can see the white lights behind the screen. It also apply when I hold the home button to see active apps I can see the same white light like on the lower half of the screen. Normally, since the default background is in black or dark grey it is noticeable. However, the weird part is when I go into gallery which also has the black background, it doesn't appear there! It's full black and I don't see the white like stuff.
Normally it is more visible when I'm in a dark room, mostly at night!
It's not LCD, it's Super Amoled just like the other!
Today i noticed that my home button has got a tiny scratch. It looks like a small dust particle which is stuck to it. I can only see it under artificial light but it still bugs me. *OCD*
So, is there something i can do? Or should i just live with it? Thanksss.

Thanks for your response. Just got one of those stickers. The black one looks good with the white S4
