In EMUI with Smart headset control option, you can control the music player through the headset button. Smart headset control feature is useful especially when we kept the phone in the pocket while listening to music. This feature gives full power to the headset to control the music player. This allows you to perform basic functions like
1. Adding a song to favorite list
2. Next Song
3. Previous Song
4. Pause / Play
5. Shuffle Playlist
Activating Smart Headset Control:
1. Goto settings
2. Select More under Smart assistance and touch Smart headset control.
How to achieve above mentioned functions?
· Single press on volume up button to increase volume
· Double press on volume up button to add the song to favourite
· Single press on play/pause button to perform play or pause
· Double press on play/pause button to perform forward option
· Triple press on play/pause button to perform backward option
· Single touch on volume down button to reduce volume
· Double touch on volume down button to shuffle the songs

@vsriram92 I'm trying to figure out if your spamming the board with your 20 plus posts or is this some kind of new service from XDA.
Do you actually work for Honor or what?

It's not really spamming, it's uncommon is all.
I enjoyed reading them and I'm sure many new users will enjoy them as well.

Hi Guys,
Anyone ran into an app that let you control the (running) music player from the locked screen like the I-Phone does it? (back / pause / fwd)
I tried the app Lock2.0 but don't like it because its just a work around the actual problem, with way to much other BS. I think you will need root access in order to implement it properly (might be wrong)
Thanks for the help.
If I could write a app that would be the first thing I would try
The new CyanogenMod ROM have option where you can long press volume keys to control the music player. Pretty nifty.

What version? I updated yesterday to the latest version of CyanogenMod ROM and I tried your suggestion but can not get it working from the locked screen.
Do you have to activate it some where?
Thanks

No settings have to be changed. Just have to long press. You can't pause (that I know of), but next and previous track work.
Hi there! Sorry if this was asked before, I couldn't find anything for X8.
As we all know, having 3.5mm audio jack on our X8 allows to connect almost every headset, but we lose the functionality of skipping tracks with the headset control that many other phones have.
I'd like to remap the camera button, when locked, to skip current track.. Is it possible?
-Cheers!

Thanks! I didn't know that. I have Froyobread which I think it includes CM6.
I also though about upgrading to Gingerbread (GingerDX). Now I really think this will be worth it
i can skip tracks while using poweramp with my handsfree
Well, but your handsfree has some kind of button, right?. The included with my phone hasn't any buttons at all.. Anyway, I'm downloading GingerDX

Ya it has only one button, but to tell the truth the original handsfree which came along with my x8 also has not button at all, so I bought HKT chinese handsfree music is 4 times louder than the original one
Cool! So, theoretically, any 3.5mm plug headset with button may work? Or yours has that strange connector that Sony implemented?

this is what I have (maybe not exact pic, taken from internet) so I think any handsfree with a button will work with poweramp and winamp... hold button to skip.
and it's so cheap here, you can buy it in 1$ = 90 Rs. almost
As someone who listens to music very often on my phone, I have always been jealous that iPhone users have so many choices of 3 button headsets that not only control media, but volume as well. There are some 3 button headsets that work for some android devices, but as far as I know, none of them work with the moto x. Personally I am looking for my headset to have 5 functions:
-play/pause
-next track
-previous track
-volume down
-volume up
I have recently figured out how to find a setup that achieves this with minimum inconvenience. There are many apps in the playstore that add more functionality to 1 button headsets, but they have 2 issues that I have have seen.
1) they allow the user at most 4 functions
2) they break the lock screen music controls that were introduced in ICS.
Problem #1 can be fixed by an app I recently discovered that allows you to program up to 5 clicks on your headset and therefore allows me the 5 functions I'm looking for. The app can be found here https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.shengande.degausslabs
There is unfortunately no way to fix the 2nd problem. There are 3rd party music widgets that can be placed on the lock screen, but they are inconsistent at best with google play music. The work around I have found is to use The app Nils lockscreen notification: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.roymam.android.notificationswidget
This app can display the notifications you allow it to over the lock screen as a widget. I am only allowing it access to music right now, but you can allow it access to any notification. Now when I listen to music, my lock screen looks like:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
I know there are other solutions if you're rooted or on a custom rom , but this will work stock. Hopefully this information is useful to those who want 3 button functionality on a 1 button headset.
The actual media player can have a great effect on that functionality as well. I use GoneMAD which has options that allow me to create whatever I want using just a 1-button remote with a variety of button presses/sequences, no extra app required.

True. I was going on the assumption that most people use Google play music, but I'm sure many are still using others.
Screen Record on the Honor 8

I didn't even know this was a feature until I tried to take a screenshot. When you hold the Vol Up + Power buttons, you can activate the built-in screen recorder. This is an awesome feature to me and it's one of my favorite things about the Xperia devices which have a similar feature. I'm aware of all of the third party screen recording apps out there because I do a lot of screen recording for videos. The way it's built into the Honor 8 and uses the buttons as a recording toggle is really nice.
One you start the recorder, you have the option to make an HD recording (720 x 1280) or a mini recording (432 x 768)
The does not auto-rotate for landscape mode, so you'll have to rotate your video afterwards. This can easily be done in the Google Photos app.
Anyways, just thought I'd share that feature because it wasn't made very obvious unless you stumble upon it.
Oh nice, I was not aware of this! Lot of hidden features I came stumbling upon everyday
you can also start this feature by "knocking" on the screen twice with two knuckles...
Thanx for the tip, you're da man
Well after a day with this phone, seems like never regret leaving my z3 compact..
pretty sure its in the shortcuts on the notification menu. its been there for ages for me never used it
Ok, but how does one make a good old screenshot??

EMUI On Honor 8
For those of you getting an Honor 8, this will probably be your first experience with EMUI. EMUI is the UX that will ship on your phone, similar to Touchwiz on Samsung. There are a bunch of features in EMUI that I'm going to be going over in this thread.
Schedule Power On and Off
Scheduling a power on and off for your phone is an interesting idea that I've never thought too much about. I've seen quiet times and night modes but turning it on and off makes more sense to me. This will also save some battery power because your phone isn't syncing your data at night.

Motion Control
The motion gestures is something I've never found useful but more and more phones are implementing it, so someone must be using it. You'll have all of your basic motion gestures like flip to mute and all that. What's really interesting is the knuckles gestures. Somehow the scientists in China have figured out how to differentiate knocks from touches. This lets you use knocks for stuff like screenshots or screen records.
Floating Dock
The floating dock will put your navigation bar in a it a little circle menu off to the side. You've seen stuff like this before so there's not much to say about it. Features like this are usually found in custom ROMs. You might find that with all of the cool features in EMUI, you could be satisfied staying with stock.
Smart Key
Smart Key turns your fingerprint sensor into a physical button. Assign custom actions or apps to press, double press or long press. This is by far my favorite feature of EMUI.
As I'm finishing up this post, my Honor 8 has been scheduled to shut down lol. That means it's my bed time, but there are plenty of other cool things in EMUI. If you own an Honor 8, please share your favorites in the comments.

It does not (not that I have found)
Another Feature to mention is the ability to have your alarms come on, even though the phone is off.
While playing with the bootloader yesterday I saw you have the option to enable the device to sound if alarms are schedule.
