Any Fix For Samsung Downgrading Smart Select in 6.0.1? - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey everyone,
Is there any way to get smart select features from LL back on MM?
Basically, in 6.0.1, Smart Select was crippled for whatever reason. You can no longer extract text from images, using Optical Text Recognition (OCR). For example, on 5.1.1, if you had a screen shot (an image file) with text in it, you could use smart select, and it would identify and convert the characters from the image into text format.
You can no longer do this on 6.0.1, it has been crippled. You can still "extract" text from some areas, however only those where you would be able to normally copy/paste the text anyway. A great feature, butchered and made useless, it is nothing more than a screenshot taker now. You can't even select multiple things without adding to scrapbook. Absolutely ridiculous.
Is there any way to fix this? I find it ridiculous that I have to choose between a crippled S-Pen or the benefits of MM.

Open Galaxy Apps then go to "more" then "my apps"
Then select "all apps" and find the app called "optical character recognition".Downloasd and install it and you are good to go!

I have no "optical character recognition" into my apps on Galaxy Apps. Is there some other way to download it?

[Q] Camera, SMS and broadcasting

1. Where do I find Cell Broadcasting? I didnt find it on my gingerblur settings. I need to disable it because it getting me problems with SMS.
2. I have the stock camera app and camera360. On stock, it appears to have photos on widescreen, but on camera 360, it not. There is any way to set this?
3. The "Locate My Phone" on Motoblur website doesnt work anymore, there is anyway to make it works on gingerblur? I dont want to restore all motorola bloatware.
2. In Normal mode (at least) you can press the gear icon at the top right and then the icon that has the word SIZE. In either drop down (you want Other Mode) there is a widescreen choice, but as you can see all you're doing is losing pixels by cropping the image to be widescreen. Why do you need that? If you really want you can crop it later on. The stock app crops as well btw.
Sorry for long time. I'm talking about before you take the shot, the image is displayed on a square box on center of your screen, and stock app display the image on all of your screen.
Also, i still with problem of Cell Broadcasting.
for me its under wireless & networks settings

See the little arrow on the right hand side of the screen in stock camera? Pull that across and set it to 5megapixels, its currently set for widescreen.
Thanks... now i see, but i didn't like it >_>
@y2whisper
Yes, Motorola Support says that for me too, but i think because i use GingerBlur or something it doesn't appears... So i'm trying to find any other way to edit it, via SQL or build.prop but i didn't found where this setting is placed.
@EDIT
I found a way to edit cell broadcast.
1. You should have root explorer and SQLite
2. Goto to /data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/
3. Open settings.db
4. goto SECURE
5. edit "cdma_cell_broadcast_sms" to 0.
6. Save
7. Reboot.
I dont know if it will stop my duplicating sms, but i tested here and didn't bricked the phone
Now i need a reply to my question 3.

[q] change the way browser advances to next fill in

Hiya everyone, hopefully this hasn't been asked yet. When I open a website that requires multiple inputs (either text or drop down menus) no matter the browser, i have to tap each field to fill them in. My retired Samsung Galaxy S 4g has a 'next' button feature which would advance the input to the next item, therefore avoiding the need to tap many times on the same site. Is there a way to make the N4 behave like that? Also how do i get the N4 to automaticall resize website to fill for width? thanks in advance
What you're looking for is the TAB key I assume. Unfortunately the stock android keyboard doesn't include one. Try a keyboard from the play store.

Emojis

If any of you have emoji suggestions checked under predictive text like I do, then you know when you type something like smile, this pops up so you can select it. I like this way and it is much quicker to swipe a word and select and emoji than to click the emoji symbol and scroll to find what you want. My problem comes in when you type the word guy, a basketball player emoji shows up spinning a basketball on his finger. He is not in the emoji selections and only comes up this way. People with different android phones can see him on there screen as well but cannot select him as most other android phones do not have emoji suggestions options. I've downloaded many apps and nobody has him. This makes me wonder how many more hidden emojis are there and why can we not see a full list in our emoji keyboard. Go ahead and try this and see what I mean. Things like this really frustrate me and I find myself typing all different kinds of words seeing if I can find any more hidden ones. Why would they only hide one, there's got to be more.

Disable S-Pen "Screenshot tool"

Hi everyone. I have 4.4.4 (kitkat) on my old Note 3. I like using the application "Squid" to take notes and sign PDF forms. Since downgrading to kitkat, (I call it an upgrade) I can no longer use the side button of the S-Pen as an eraser tool, like I did in marshmallow.
Instead, I get this screenshot type thing that comes up, after a crop type swipe thing, I really don't even know what it's called, I can't seem to find it on the list in Titanium Backup either. I really would like to totally uninstall this feature. It interferes with use of my S-Pen.
I tried all the settings in the world and, yes, looked it up on Google with no glimpse of hope. I think it may be called Smart Select, or Image Clip? I'm really not even sure.
Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

I imagine the ROM you had previously (marshmallow) was not Touchwiz based, correct? (Resurrection Remix, Lineage, etc...)
To disable the pop up you get upon pushing the button, I'd search in the options menu and look for "Air Command" in Advanced Features somewhere, may be even listed under "S Pen"

That's not it. I don't mind Air Command, as it does not interfere with any other app. This selection screenshot tool, the one you get when you hold the side button and move it around, is the one I want to get rid of. I never had it on MM, so it must only be a KK thing.

Custom Text Tones After Oreo Update

Hi All,
Ever since I got the Oreo update on my S8 a couple of days back, I am not able to set custom text tones for individual contacts.
This was available, and extremely useful, on Android 7. Does anyone know how to enable this? I'm on Stock ROM. No Root, nothing customised.
Thanks.
I was on the beta and rely on this a lot as I have dual sim for work and home so it's a must for me to have different tones per contact, however, during the beta Samsung removed it and I raised it as an issue. Every beta update that came out I kept raising it as an issue, at one point I got a bit irate and they actually replied saying the beta wasn't over yet and new features are always being added. Anyway, final Beta came out and still no custom tones per contact, so I have ended up installing the google messenger app that does allow you to do this (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.messaging). However, the settings are configured within the messenger app and not stored against the contact like they were previously.
I upgraded from the Note 8 to GS9+ and lost ability to assign contact specific text notification sounds. This is a downgrade since many people found this feature useful prior to Oreo. I too installed Android Messages just to restore this feature. This needs to be fixed to work with the phone's default messaging app instead of forcing people to download additional apps to get this feature. Big mistake on Oreo developers part.
Samsung (or Google...or whomever), I just want you to know how unhappy I am with this so called Oreo update! Really?? You take away the text tone notifications?? That really sucks! Now I am being forced to download a 3rd party app (which you guys won't support) in order to get that feature back?!?!?! This is a BIG disappointment. I feel that I have been let down! You guys could have kept all the features like GIF and all of the other things you added. They are not half as important to me as the individual text tones were! SMH! I may have to switch over to iPhone. Yes! That's how upset I am about this!
I switched from iPhone to android for all the bonuses. This feature is one I have always used and now it's been taken away??? Back to iPhone I go.
GARBAGE!!
This is absolute CRAP!!! I got the update late last night on my GS8+ and realized immediately this morning with my 1st text that something had changed. Started digging and discovered the feature was gone...IRATE doesn't even begin to describe how I feel about this!! The feature NEEDS to be readded!!!!
So glad I found these posts! I have digged through my phone for a week now after the update trying to find how to change the tones for my important contacts! So annoyed I cant change this! Why would they do that!!! I don't care about updated emojis, I have had the same text tone for my finance for 2 years and now it's a default tone! So now I have to look at my phone every time, instead of knowing exactly who is messaging me !! Annoyed
I fail to understand the horror you are all expressing. Now is the perfect time for you to check out Textra. Forget the stock messaging app, you can not only customize your tones, but also color of notification icons, colors in chats, background images, type of notifications {heads up, floating, normal, etc.}. The advantages are numerous. Besides, isn't this the exact reason most of us use Android? If you don't like a stock app, there are enough options to replace it, you find something better.

I downloaded Textra and do not see an option that fixes the problem. I find this a big step back as I used the feature to make it easy to identify if my wife or kids were texting me.

Thanks got it. Liking the ability to customize a lot wth this. It is a shame it won't let you pick a custom background but it is making it easy to tell at a glance who I am chatting with.

You can set custom bubble colors, if that helps. I never even used the stock messaging app. I like using custom notification colors with custom led colors and sounds, so I know even when my phone is muted and the screen off.
Another option is to download a soundboard, I have an samsung s8 and I updated to oreo and downloaded a metal gear soundboard and it works great!
Fix
Download Android Messages and do the following;
Tap the Conversation you wish to set a custom notification for.
Tap the three-dot menu icon in the top right corner of the screen.
Tap People & options.
Tap Notifications.
Tap Sound.
Tap your desired tone.
Tap Save.
