Team,
***First off I am not responsible for damaged that occurs to any phones. Make sure you know what you are doing before making changes!!!***
I was having an issue with the mic gain recording distorted live concert audio so I was wondering how to access extended features on the Galaxy S.
The following is the code to dial in to access the hidden Service Mode menus.
Example how to access menus:
Dial *#*#197328640#*#*
This allowed me to adjust the mic gain to get better audio recordings at loud live concerts.
There seems to be several hidden menus on the Galaxy S and I am wondering how many more there are. Which led me to post this thread.
If any of you can find more hidden menus post them and i'll add them to this OP.
So far I know about:
Hidden Menus:
Service Menu: *#*#197328640#*#*
GPS Hidden Menu: *#*#1472365#*#*
Battery and General Info: *#*#4636#*#*
GTalk Service Monitor: *#*#8255#*#*
LCD / Speaker Test: *#0*#
Factory Data Reset: *#*#7780#*#*
Camera Information: *#*#34971539#*#* (Do Not Use The First Option "update camera firmware" you will break your camera)
Change Power Button Action: *#*#7594#*#*
Show IMEI Number: *#06#
Be careful in Service Mode that you know what it is your changing. If you hork up your phone you can reset it by doing a Factory data reset in Settings / Privacy / Factory data reset.
I would do a nandroid backup before making changes if your just experimenting.
I will add reference material below as I can:

Service Menu:
The following popular data communication technology is associated with each cell carrier type:
GSM = GPRS (2g), EDGE(2g), UMTS(3g), WCDMA(3g), HSDPA(3g) {Cell Carrier examples: AT&T and T-Mobile}
CDMA = CDMA*(2/3g) EV-DO(3g) WiMax(3/4g) {Cell Carrier examples: Verizon and Sprint}
Preferred Network types:
WCDMA preferred - The GSM phone is capable of using both 2G and 3G data communication and when signal strength is low 3G is favored more.
GSM only - The GSM phone is capable of using only 2G data communication. When the 2G signal is too low you get nothing at all.
WCDMA only - The GSM phone is capable of using only 3G data communication. When the 3G signal is too low you get nothing at all.
GSM auto (PRL) - The GSM phone is capable of using both 2G and 3G data communication and when signal strength is low 2G is favored more. This one is a bit confusing to me since PRL is associated mostly with CDMA technology and not GSM technology.
CDMA auto (PRL) - The CDMA phone is capable of using both 2G and 3G data communication and when signal strength is low 2G is favored more.
CDMA only - The CDMA phone is capable of using only 2G data communication. When the 2G signal is too low you get nothing at all.
EvDo only - The CDMA phone is capable of using only 3G data communication. When the 3G signal is too low you get nothing at all.
GSM/CDMA auto (PRL) - Some phones are equipped with both GSM and CDMA capabilities. This setting appears to just have the phone attempt to stay connected to the data communication type that works the best. (Maybe the Samsung Galaxy S will take advantage of this???)
Unknown - If none of the above fit or the phone is acting weird as far as connecting to the carrier, you will see your preferred network type is set to this.

Dude where you getting all these code. Nice find. You have any more? LOL
I don't which is which. I don't want to mess up anything on it.
Do you know how to work these setup menus?

I know how to get to the volume service menus in the phone, but does anyone know how to make the earpiece volume louder? My phone is too quiet when up to my ear (rocker volume maxed out) and I don't know what exactly to change in the service menus. I did it on my eternity but this one is a little different. any help is appreciated.

I found a code on nother forum but can't remember where.. When entered it asked for a password and an IME number and one other number.. I found it by accident one day when searching for 'unlock captivate' and I think it brings up the same menu that is brought up when you use a foreign sim... Would allow unlock without requiring the insertion of a foreign sim..
Anyone know this code?
I tried searching however could not find anything. Perhaps I may be using the wrong wording.
What I am trying to accomplish is to disable the GSM mode. What I find is the phone likes to jump to the GSM network and with that the internet connection just doesn't move at all. If I force the phone to WCDMA mode it work just fine standing in the same spot, so the phone is still picking GSM over WCDMA even when there is a good signal for WCDMA.
Current modes:
LTE/WCDMA/GSM (auto connect)
WCDMA/GSM (auto connect)
WCDMA Only
GMS only
Is it possible to have a LTE/WCDMA option?

I miss this option. The Xperia Z had this mode, I loved it. It was reachable via the common code *#*#4636#*#*. But this code doesn't work on the GT-I9505 with stock Samsung ROMs. But even with custom ROM, and working code. This special mode is missing. There are 2 switches for "LTE only" and "WCDMA only" but not both

You have to use "prefered network type" as seen here

This should work
Here is my screenshot. It only has "LTE/CDMA", which only allows me to use LTE. There is no "LTE/WCDMA" option.
Perhaps, this might be an idea for rom creators?
also interested in this.
yes, please add this function LTE/WCDMA only into ROM CYANOGENMOD.
because LTE/GSM auto (PRL) connect to 2G/3G/4G, and i'm not interested for 2G.
Did anyone ever find a solution to this?

Solution please ! I have the same problem also
True. I am able to use the following:
LTE/GSM (prl)
WCDMA (prl)
GSM Only (prl)
I am unable to use LTE/WCDMA/GSM
I am using XXUGNG8 modem, and I am unable to use 2G (network won't connect).
3G works in most cases, but it is still dropping. Only technology which works correctly is LTE...stable and fast.
I am unable to switch the network band to any other one. I tried it with service menu tool, but it does not work either (allows me to change to defined items above, and reverts back to LTE/GSM if I'll select anything else).
Is there a way to add support for more network modes? I am confident that my issues are not related to HW, as both bootloader, GSM modem and LTE modem are all of the same version - XXUGNG8, and I do have very good reception for whole band. I am just unable to switch over to 2G, and 3G is still dropping.
I live in Prague, Czech Republic, and I own GT-9505i variant
Any solutions guys?
any solution to this date? im interested in the same thing.
I finally found a solution that works on my Samsung Galaxy S5. Enter code *#2263# into your dialer. An option menu will open with "LTE/WCDMA Mode" only as an option. Works like a charm!
Wrong posted.
Hi,
Sorry to bump this but I have the same issue. I have a Galaxy S4 and it is very weird with its network selection.
The default setting is LTE/GSM auto, which I believe is LTE combined with the GSM Auto mode that everyone knows about - this being, prefer 2G instead of 3G in weak signal areas.
I have the following options:
LTE Only
LTE/GSM Auto
GSM Auto
WCDMA Only
GSM Only
WCDMA Preferred
Plus a load of other stuff about CDMA and EvDo (I'm sure that the GT-I9505 doesn't support CDMA or EvDo?).
The problem I am having is as follows:
Immediately when I got the S4, I realized that it was preferring GSM over WCDMA/HSPA. This was confirmed when compared with a Samsung Galaxy Ace Plus, on the same network, in the same location, and the Ace Plus (S7500) was choosing 3G, whilst the S4 chose 2G. Doing a bit of Googling led me to find the WCDMA setting, and after choosing that, the S4 chose 3G.
So all was good for the last 2 years, using WCDMA Only mode on my S4, as my mobile operator (Virgin Mobile) didn't have 4G access. Losing LTE wasn't a problem.
However, now I have switched to the EE network, I now face a problem. As mentioned above, there is the WCDMA Only mode, and the LTE Only mode - meaning that I am unable to have both 3G (WCDMA) and 4G (LTE) without also having GSM, and there is no way that I want to ever use GSM again, especially since that EDGE/GPRS are barely usable as data connections, GSM has sub-standard voice quality, and the S4 is choosing GSM over WCDMA.
A couple of examples, once on my way home, the S4 dropped from 4G to 2G and completely ignored 3G - despite being right next to a 3G mast operated by EE (albeit on the old Orange code). On WCDMA mode, the phone always connects to the Orange 3G mast. Thankfully, a bit later on, it did pick up 4G again, but if I was streaming Tunein Radio, that would have been a disaster (it would have dropped the stream).
A bit later on, on the same journey, the phone also went to 2G, from 4G - despite being in a reasonable signal area for 3G. Why didn't the phone choose 3G? I'd had enough by then and switched to WCDMA Only mode; result? 28% 3G signal (3 bars)!
It's also happened on my local mast, until a few weeks ago. The S4 was choosing 4G from a more distant mast (strength 50%), instead of 3G from the local mast (strength 60%). When I went downstairs, to the kitchen, the signal strength dropped and the phone went straight to GPRS! GPRS is likely to give about 30kbps max, so I don't know why the phone was doing this - although about 20-30 seconds later, it did then go to the 3G from the local mast.
I can't use LTE Only mode as (a) the 4G rollout isn't complete, and (b) the S4 does not support Voice Over LTE (VOLTE), meaning that in 4G only mode, I have no way of accepting or receiving calls.
I need a 3G/4G mode (LTE/WCDMA) on my S4, that doesn't use 2G at all, because 3G/4G signals are present virtually everywhere on the EE network, and it would stop the S4's crazy behavior.
Any suggestions to remedy this would be appreciated. I am not rooted, though if someone knew how to root the phone for me, it could be a possibility, as it is out of warranty.
I have a SGS5 (SM-G900F) downgraded to Kitkat. (4.4.2)
I can use LTE with one operator A (4G shows in statusbar, speedtest measures above 50Mbits).
I bought a sim for operator B but I cannot switch to LTE mode in Mobile Data Settings -> Mobile Networks -> Network Mode. Any option with LTE is simply not available.
I tested the sim for operator B on an iPhone 6 plus, it works just fine.
I have found some guide for secret codes and walked through it to force LTE. It works, but it does not switch to 3G automatically when I receive a call (it does this with the card of operator A)
So I know that my phone does support both operators frequency bands, I can force it to work, but I want to have the convenience of automatic switching on a phone call.
Is there a list somewhere in the software that has flags for networks to enable and disable LTE options in the menu ? Can I edit this ? Where is it ?
Will updating my Android version fix this ? ( I would really prefer to avoid this, since I use SnoopSnitch )
Operator A is: Vodafone (DE), A1 (AT)
Operator B is: HoT (AT)->MVNO for T-Mobile (AT)
How to speed up jio connection?
I am posting pre configuration also as well as in case pre configuration not work you can try at your own hit and trial method.
Pre config -
I am not providing any downloadable files or content. This process needs root and volte supported roms. Custom lineage and its based roms still can have issue. It will work best on eui roms ( stock and customs) .
App need -
Net guru (free) - download
1. Download net guru app. And give root access . It will take some time for configuration.
2. Wait untill it shows LTE testing.
3. Now go to menu and select lock bands.
4. Now select LTE and select "B3 1800+" band.
5. Restart and. Enjoy new speed.
Reason to lock only this band -
Coverage + speed too.
Check speed by trai app.
If above method don't work then follow till 3rd step and now select 3 individual bands at which jio works and check your speed at individual bands and lock them at your most preferable band.
Details about bands:
Jio is using 3 LTE bands for 4G:
Band 3 (1800Mhz),
Band 5 (850Mhz)
and Band 40 (2300Mhz)
If LTE Bands are arranged according to services then
Best 4G coverage*: Band 5 > Band 3 > Band 40
Best 4G Speed*: Band 40 > Band 3 > Band 5
Average 4G speed*: Band 40 : 30mbps+Band 3 : 14mbps+Band 5 : 5mbps+
Extra -
1. After Deleting app band locking still works.
2. Restarting doesn't affect band locking.
3. Updating roms or changing also not affect band locking.
4. It's not necessary band 3 will give you more speed or coverage try according to your area. Mine is most suitable at B3.
Working - Sim - up. Working in Delhi, haryana and up.
Post your results.
Thank you bro
If you will use this trick then you both incoming and outgoing call will not work at the time of data connection ,you have to switch to flight mode to enable again

No issue here. Receiving calls and everything working fine.
This is a guide for those who want to force 'LTE only' on LG V20 Global dual sim version.
As anyone knows, *#*#4636#*#* WILL NOT work with LG V20 and all LG phones starting with Lollipop and later Android versions except for the LG-Nexus releases. LG has locked this menu. Samsung and Huawei are also notorious for locking this menu. These phones will show 'access denied' when you try to force 'LTE only' using the *#*#4636#*#* service menu.
There are however phone manufacturers who do not lock this menu. These include Sony, Asus, Oppo, Vivo, Xiaomi, Google Pixel, and Nexus phones (various manufacturers). I don't know why manufacturers lock this menu when it is very helpful to users in areas with weak but consistently available LTE signal. By being able to force 'LTE only', you get dramatically better speeds as compared to 3G only.
Anyway, the good news for LG V20 H990 (dual sim version) users is there's a way to force 'LTE only' despite LG locking out the *#*#4636#*#* service menu:
I've outlined here the steps for the workaround:
Note: For LG V20 (H990 dual sim model) only
How to set ‘LTE only’ data mode for SIM1 slot on
LG V20 H990 dual sim version:
Important:
1. When on ‘LTE only’ – you cannot receive calls but you can receive texts. If you go out of an LTE area, your SIM1 (on ‘LTE only’) will be off or will not have any network signal; it will not do automatic switching to 3G or 2G under ‘LTE only’ so you lose the ability to send/receive text messages as there is no LTE signal.
2. This setting only applies to SIM1 slot of the dual SIM model of LG V20 H990. This will not work on SIM2 slot so be sure to place your ‘data-only’ sim to SIM1 tray while placing your ‘call and text’ sim to SIM2 tray (so it won’t be affected by the ‘LTE only’ setting).
Here’s the code to input on your dialer:
*#546368#*990#
Field Test
Modem Settings
RAT Selection
Choose LTE only
If you want to revert back to auto network settings, you can follow the same procedure but choose 'GSM/WCDMA/LTE auto' or other settings instead.
It works, but sometimes it makes the signal to no signal.
Great
I trie many things to changing roms...None of them worked. I'm very thankfull to this simple solution. I chose LTE/GSM and now network problems completetely finished.
APK
The app LTESwitch will work. I uncheck all options in the program, and just use the dropdown setting from the status bar to select (L)TE or (A)uto.
A side benefit for me is that if I set it to LTE Only, the phone rejects all incoming calls. That way, if I'm downloading something, a phone call won't interrupt the download.
The unfortunate issue is that it breaks my ability to make/receive calls if I select "(G)SM Only". I'm sure that is because my market is almost exclusively HSPA/HSPA+ for calls.
However, if I need to force LTE, it does it immediately.
I then set to "Auto" for normal operation.
HTH
Looking for a solution for my new used H800K that is now rooted. Sadly *#546368#*990# does work on my old Hong kong model that I am leaving yet *#546368#*800# menu does not show Field Test, although my H990N can do it in the menu so I always had it on 3G only because radiation is very low compared to 4G, and even 2G is higher then 3G as testing. 4G is nearly always in the RED!!! Whereas 3G is in the GREEN nearly always.
Also helps not downloading to fast to burn up the mobile and make it slow.
So... Looking for a way to get only 3G on my H800K... Sad with all the nonsense they do to phones and waste so much time of ours. Tyrants is what they are, coding Tyrants!
