The File Manager (built in by ASUS) shows me lots of duplicate files. These are not created by me but some system files?! I wonder if it is safe to remove the duplicates. Also, how do I know which file from each pair of duplicates can be deleted and which one should be kept?

How can i remove the junk files installed in my /windows directory? i saw many but i dont know if it is important. is there any programs that deletes any unusefull files or junk files? Thanks
your windows dir is filled with the files that windows contain
most are located in rom and can never be deleted
Some files like when i install a software and uninstall it some files will not be deleted. (ie. Help files, images, .txt etc)
got some exampes ?
i know that sometimes shortcuts are not removed from programs
and it's temp dir is also likely to get some temp files once in awhile
but i havent had issues with alot of space being lost to files not being removed
suppose you could always make a backup using activesync and then try
to remove stuff and softreset if it cause issues with programs or windows stuff then do a hardreset and restore your backup
maybe i was wrong. maybe the files that i saw is important and not a junk files. Thank You anyway.
There are utility programs like SpaceMaker and MemMaid which will do housekeeping for you. They delete the "junk" files from your device.

I'm guessing .unload files are used when un-installing ..... If I don't intend to uninstall a particular program, would it do any harm to delete the associated .unload file to free up some RAM ??
Hi,
Can I unlock files from Windows directory , for example: camera.exe and delete them. When I try to delete this file I receive an error. There are any programs for unlocking or I must edit ROM? And last question, if i delete this file, it will be more memory available?
I have HTC Charmer with WM5.
files located in the rom cant be deleted and if they could it would not add memory for applications or storage
On the new Shadow, there's a system file in the Windows/Startup folder called SignatureReplace.lnk, that links to an app in the Windows Folder of the same name. Apparently TMo screwed up with this file, and it deletes the Outlook signature after every restart. It's a protected system file so I can't replace it. anyone have any idea how to delete this file? It's driving me crazy that I need to re-input the sig after every restart.
Hi,
I have add a picture in a folder -of my Sdcard but when I tried to assign this picture to a contact, the picture was not appearing. I had the same problem
with Mp3 files. New ones are not appearing except after a full reboot.
Of course the new files were really in the folders.
How can I refresh my HD without having to reboot it?
Thanks
Daniel
I have found the problem:
When I am handling files with the file manager "Root Explorer", it doesn't refresh the files and folders until remounting the SDcard. With Astro File manager, it works perfectly.
