I've had problems with random reboots since I got my Moto X Pure last November. I kept hoping that a software update would solve the problem, but so far nothing has helped. In fact is seems to be getting worse with updates, not any better. Since I have an unlocked bootloader I can't send it back for repair, so I'm kind of stuck, but it is really frustrating.
It only happens when I'm at work, and it doesn't matter if I'm using my phone, its just sitting on my desk or if it's in my pocket. It will just randomly reboot. And sometimes when it gets in this state it will just keep rebooting over and over and I have to force it to shut down. If I leave it for a while and then restart it will be fine for a little while.
I was very excited about the Moto X as I've always had good luck with Motorola phones in the past. It has a lot of upsides, but this constand rebooting has made me question going with Motorola.
If I could sovle this, I'd be happy to keep the phone, but at this point its not really usable.
Sorr that this is a bit of a rant, but I'm just really frustrated.
Could it be related to very weak wifi signal? In my case, at work, wifi was so weak that it killed the battery because it was always searching for a network and will always gets disconnected. I solved it by disabling the wifi when at work and only using LTE.
In your case, it's worse than killing the battery as it reboots, but maybe you could try to disable wifi to see if it helps?
Thanks for the idea.
I don't use WiFi at the office. We have pico cells in the office that give really good coverage and I don't use much data while working. But I'll try disabling WiFi and see if I see any difference.
Its so random that I've had a really hard time pinpointing the issue. So any ideas on how to find out the root cause would be much appreciated.
I am sorry to hear you are having trouble. My device also has an unlocked bootloader and has began to suffer random reboots. I get them at least once a day. It usually happens when I am pulling the device out of my pocket and the ambient [Moto] display is triggered. I am running the stock Motorola firmware (May), my device is encrypted, rooted with SuperSU, and running Xposed. Any similarities? I haven't had a chance to look at the logs.
Thanks for the idea to check my WiFi.
I've been experimenting for a while and it seems that it was related to WiFi. We have a certificate based authentication on a hidden SSID wireless network. I had set this up on an older phone and it was imported as part of my Google backup. But because I didn't have a valid certificate it kept failing and retrying and eventually it would cause a reboot. I "forgot" the network so that my phone would stop trying to connect and it's been a couple of weeks since I had a reboot. So at this point I think it has been resolved.
I've had problems with random reboots
I've also had problems with random reboots. I've thought it could be SD card related or to some interplay between the SD card and Sim card.
I have had this as well... although I replaced my SIM card (for an entirely different reason) and it has not recurred... Maybe coincidence, maybe not, but for most people it is a simple thing to do.
Yeah, random reboots here too. It is not ROM or Kernel related.
I thinking it is a hardware failure. I have 6 months to go until my contract is up, so I just have to put up with it for now.
Just started rebooting as soon as I connect to my WiFi hotspot.. Within a second of connecting, reboot. It was fine yesterday!
Never had so many issues with my phone!

Even with auto-sync turned off, you have probably noticed that google contacts
keeps syncing on an irregular basis. It's not supposed to do this and for some reason when it does it slows down the phone BIG time.
In my experience, the only time I lose the audio (phone slows, audio goes, have to reboot) is when the google contacts are trying to sync.
If you aren't on a call when the contacts sync, the phone slows and recovers fine on its own. If you are on a call...curtains.
If the google sync issue is corrected...the problem may go away. I have no idea how to attempt to do this but I really think these issues could be tied together.

Just one problem with that statement...when on a call, EVDO (all data) drops out, meaning sync isnt possible. However, could it be possible that those experiencing issues have a problem with data continuing while on a call wrecking havoc? Just an idea. Have yet to experience this yet and hopefully wont.
hmmmm interesting
ive too also have been dealing with the audio issues, my thing is it doesnt do it all the time, my phone sometimes does have a google sync issue at times, where it kind of hangs, i too have noticed that when i loose audio my sync is connected, but when its completely off theres no probs, meaning i never have to retart phone. idk im beat once my sync is done when i flash a rom i completely turn it off and i un check always on mobile in settings, and my audio issues went away................
im not sure if this is what you guys are talking about, but ive been having an issue that is driving me insane. I can make and receive calls fine, however no sound is transmitted to either party (my mic and speaker don't work). The only thing that fixes it is a restart, then its usually only the first one or two calls after the restart that work fine, after that its lights out again. always on mobile is unchecked, contacts/mail/calendar are set to manual sync and nothing else really pulls data without me initiating it.
Ive been on with Sprint all week about it and they are sending me a replacement and credited me back the past month, so we'll see if its a ROM or a hardware thing cause the second the replacement comes in its getting rooted and flashed
I have flashed Fipz' 2.0d on my phone, my co-worker's, and my wife's. The first two phones have worked just fine, from the first boot, however, after flashing it several times, my wife's hero continues to lose audio. I have even tried the update.zip that was supposed to help it.
The only differences that I can account for is that I rooted and flashed the two working ones on a Windows computer at work, and my wife's I rooted and flashed at home in Ubuntu.
It doesn't seem likely to me that I did anything different, (other than the required differences in the code when rooting) on my wife's phone than I did on the other two.
After 3 wipes, SD Format and re-partitions, and reconfiguring her phone, it still gets that audio issue. The longest it has lasted without doing it is about 6 hours.
I have absolutely no clue what could be causing this lol

To complicate things, I'm on a mac and have flashed MatrixROM. So, it looks like nobody is safe...Ubuntu, Windows and Mac. I noticed someone had posted a possible fix a little bit ago. I may give that a shot as it's incredibly frustrating. I wish there was a way to send all calls to voicemail, cause its pointless to have them connect through right now.
hopefully anyone who wants to test the new fix has. if not please do. its on the thread i started and it uses a variation of "fixes". as stated before, we know what causes it but not really sure how to fix it. im working with a very good dev to create a kernel and ramdisk to fix it with everything working.
wifi doesnt work with the fix as of right now. but anyways hope it helps.
My Omnia 7 keeps loosing it's 3G connection. To restore it I have to restart the phone. T-Mobile say that this happens from time to time, but it's happening every day now. It's annoying as it stops my push email from being up to date, and of course prevents the use of any internet based services until the phone is restarted.
Has anyone else noticed their phone has switching to GSM?
Had mine for 6 days.Been fine up until today, then I had the same problem.Only the once so far.
Confirm loosing 3G
Confirm loosing 3G connection, and also have phone call failures.
Factory reset did not solve the problem.
Bring it back to shop
Blackstone is back now!
At first this was occasional with my phone, then more frequent, and it's all the time. If I want to use the Internet I have to restart the phone. My house is covered by full HSPA, but the only way to get it is to take the battery out while the phone is switched on. I can sometimes get 3G by a simple restart, which I lasts about 40 minutes.
I like the phone, so I'm going to hold out for a software update. All it needs to do is check available networks and I think that, if this is a wide spread issue, Samsung/Microsoft will fix it. Hope so.
Please post here if you have this issue too.
I have also been having this issue... sometimes it doesnt come back straight away when i restart it but after about 10mins its back.
When I activated it with orange I was told to expect a few txt msg's that would need deleting and the phone restarting... I only got 1 msg, maybe this has something to do with it, maybe the phone hasnt been sent enough updates.
I also have this issue and have done for weeks. Orange couldn't solve it either.
It only happens overnight at home. I either need to reset the phone / rescan available networks or turn flight mode off and on again for the connection to restore.
I was thinking it may be an issue with t-mobile since it only happens at my home where orange signal is poor and i roam over to t-mobile.
If i stay in an area with good Orange signal i don't get the problem.
Good to know i'm not the only one with this problem. It's very annoying!
Hi y'all.
I had the same problem: 3G was lost every time. I was fed up restarting the phone every time, so I looked for another way to get 3G back. I found out that disabling and enabling SIM security (phone > setttings) got me 3G again... for a short while.
But: after disabling SIM security permanently, 3G kept on going (in fact for over a week now).
I think that changing the PIN to some other number, might cause this. I haven't yet tried changing it to the default PIN again, to see if using that for SIM security solves it. For the moment I'm too happy it works again.
I have suffered from poor reception issues ever since I got my Omnia 7.
It seems like the reception comes and goes. I will receive e-mails, which proves that the phone has been connected, but as soon as I try to use data myself, by visiting a web page or refreshing an app like facebook, the reception disappears and the "no reception" symbol drops down from the status bar.
Also, often when I try to send an SMS, it will appear to have been sent, yet 10 minutes later I will receive a "Can't send...try again" message. Once I have received this, the SMS will never successfully send. However, in the meantime I can receive SMS messages, which shows that the phone has been getting a signal.
This is SO frustrating and is ruining my experience with the phone.
I have posted requests on the Microsoft Answers forum and the only suggestions have been to reset the phone or turn WiFi off. Neither of these have had any effect. I have never enabled SIM lock.
I have heard that there is a firmware update due soon which includes a new radio stack. I am desperately hoping that this will improve the situation, as at the moment I cannot rely on my Omnia 7 as my only phone.
Alex.
Hi Loco,
You are right in saying that social answers doesn't really help much .
Luckily there IS a new firmware from a couple of days ago! Check out the Omnia 7 Dev section. There are only a few posts.
And here is also a good link for you. You are right to assume that it comes with a new radio stack which improves on performance.

Finally found a thread on this... I have been having a similar problem since I got my phone from Optus here in Australia. I took it back and they replaced it for me but the new phone is exactly the same. I don't lose the 3G icon but anything data related just ceases from loading. Right now I'm trying to refresh the Facebook app and it just comes up with 'Unable to connect', even though I have full 3G reception.
I flashed it to the newer leaked firmware and it hasn't changed anything, problem still persists unfortunately. This is a major problem that isn't getting enough attention! It seems quite widespread and Omnia 7 specific.
Had similar problems, but after I changed my provider ( O2-Germany), 3G is stable.
For the people having this problem, have you tried setting the phone to prefer 3g? Details of how to do this are here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=915813

Same here man. On Optus and my reception sucks with this device. What the hell is samsung doing? FIX IT!
I have been having this problem with my Omnia 7. The frustrating thing is this is a replacement phone I had for an LG which I had replaced THREE TIMES due to random resets. So now I have a phone that I have to turn off and on EVERY MORNING in order for the data connection to start working again. Needless to say I am very frustrated. I am on Orange in the UK. I suspect it could be related to when being an a poor reception area and it tries to switch to tmobile. I am going to try turning roaming off. Please, if anyone finds a solution to this let me know.
Thanks

My problem got worse with the Mango update. I'm now on my 2nd handset after having a replacement from Orange warranty. This one still loses it's connection but much less frequently.
TBH i don't think it will ever get fixed. I started an MS Answers thread months ago and lots of people had the same problem but we never got a response from MS.
Conisdering the age of the model now I doubt Samsung care, well they didn't seem to care a year ago so they won't now... For this reason I will not buy another Samsung phone. It's infuriating.
Looks like I am stuck with it until December then when I can upgrade to a Nokia lumia. A long wait :-(
i have this issue, too.. but for me i only have to set airplane mode on and off. sometimes i deactivate data connection, go to a random website, get the 'no connection' error, then activate data connection back and it works.
however, after installing the latest drivers & firmware, i get this issue A LOT less frequent. like once in 2-3 days.
i hope ms or samsung will fix this because it can get really annoying. especially when you need eg. a quick google-search..
Just flicking the flight mode wouldn't be so bad but that doesn't work for me, I have to restart the phone each time. I love WP7 but this and the other problems with the LG is driving me nuts. Almost wondering whether I should have just followed the crowd and gone for an iPhone.

Same as me - Flicking flight mode on-off doesn't solve it, needs a soft-reset.
Like I say, there are quite a few with Omnias on Orange with this problem.
I'm in the same boat, I've had this for months now so I guess I'll just deal with it until I can upgrade the start of April and get a Lumia (hopefully the EU 900/910 will be here by then!). There is no way on this earth Samsung are getting any more of my money. Nokia seem fully commited so they can take my cash next time!
I have the same problem with the data stopping working on o2 in the UK. But I also sometimes cant receive calls even though the phone has service, then there are the times where it site there going GPRS/3G/3G+/No Service and you cant do anything with it apart from pull the battery.
Hi, i have problems with random reboots its really annoying.
Some roboots arent random - when i recieve/send sms phone reboots almost everytime or when someone calls me its the same - reboot.
Any fix for this?
Thx
I have Defy+ (MB526), 2.3.6 android, 2.6.32.9-gbdd614e kernel, stock ROM
try wipe or flash other sbf that you can flash
Don't flash anything, if it persists after a wipe, send it back
Sent from my MB525 using Tapatalk
Someone on this forum reported rebooting issues caused by a slightly shorter than spec battery (actually a few people as I recall). When the phone was moved it often rebooted and the fix was to add a single piece of electrical tape to the end opposite contacts. May be worth a try.
Switch to 2g and mobile data off then see if it reboots.
Might be this-
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21237004#post21237004
Ok, thanks for the answers, flashing doesnt work Ive tried it many times..
Ive just tried 2G and electrical tape, hope it will work
A few causes might possibly be the answer.
1) firstly confirmed the rom by playing the overclock settings. Some rom having too low on voltage or frequency setting. Or the rom itself is not stable. Flashing another rom is only way to confimed this.
2) Battery might have factory defect, use battery monitor widget to monitor the voltages/current of the battery consumption. change battery(borrow from friend) to see if the reboot still happen.
3) Check battery connection on the phone. Make sure no loose around it.
4) If all the above still causes the random reboots. you can return it back to the shop to repair the handset.
seems switching to 2G helped, no reboot since switch, thanks
This is the same problem I had with my Defy+
It used to reboot randomly for no reason even when siting on a desk doing nothing
all of a sudden i would hear a notification to say the sd card was loaded informing me it was rebooted.
When it does decide to reboot it can do up to 4 or 5 reboots continuously
I sent it back and got a new one.
The new one does the same thing but very rarely
maybe once every month or 2 months
I have posted about this on the Motorola Forums and There are other people with the exact same problem as us.
One of them mentioned they had to send their phone bak to Motorola and they replaced the main board and will get back to say how it went.
But since then no answer and Motorola changed their forums

Can you confirm if it's 2G or tape?
I purchased Defy+ 20 days ago with exactly same configuration as the one described in the beginning of this thread. Phone reboots at random when I am in the middle of conversation, or while accessing data through mobile network or while present in areas with extremely low single. I tried using a new SIM, checked loose ends (if any) of the battery i.e. stuck a 1 layer of tape on one end, also switched to 2G. The phone continues to reboot especially when I access internet on mobile network, and also booted once while I am in a call.
Unfortunately the customer service in India (any company) would be pathetic so I'm not hopeful in having Motorola fix the problem if I take the piece to their support centers...
Narasimha
Narashima,
I have heard of Defy going crazy when trying to access data in an area where the data signal is weak and goes in and out. Can you confirm you are getting reboots if you turn data OFF? Not sure how your phone is configured, but I mean even cut off 2G.
My 6P's WiFi suddenly died on me. I've had this phone since 2016 and I've taken really good care of it. Things were working perfectly last Sunday when I was in some other city, but as soon as I returned home WiFi was dead. At first I thought it was a router problem so I reset it to no avail, since my phone wasn't finding any connections even though everyone else's could, then I tried turning it off but the problem persisted. Later I tried a factory reset, but that didn't work either.
Whilst my phone is rooted, I'm on stock ROM and I've pretty much used root solely for V4A/ARISE. I also haven't installed any apps that may overheat it, or that could cause some damage.
I've never dropped my phone and it's fairly well protected.
So, what the hell is going on? Do any of you guys have any idea?
So i've bought my one plus 6t about 2 months ago and i've had this problem with the internet connection from the beginning. Basically after a period of using it (like 1 hour/1 hour and a half) the connection would stop working, completely... Wifi, data everything would stop working until i rebooted the phone and it got back to normal. After the upgrade to android 10.3.0 the problem seemed to be gone but i discovered later that it just "changed". Now sometimes the connection goes really bad (like doesn't even load a song from spotify) for like 1-5 minutes and than returns normal again; this loop can go on for a lot and it is really annoying.
I don't know what casued this problem in the beginning and why it's happening now. I think there might be a stock problem with the network card but i don't know for sure and i don't know how to check. I already reset the phone once (the partial one that keeps all the photos and data in the phone) after the 10.3.0 upgrade but the problem remains.
If someone knows how to fix this/why this is happening please help me, i really don't know what to do at this point.
I would do backup and factory reset if not you can send to oneplus centre but they will do that before any repairs anyway.
I have had a similar problem on 10.3.1 and at least 1 if not 2 updates prior to the this one.
What happens go for me though, is when at home, (haven't had it happen anywhere else), connected to wifi or not, the phone randomly loses all connection to my sim. It comes back almost instantly but still quite annoying and until this post I haven't heard of it happening to anyone else, not that I have come across, at least.
And I know it's not because of where I'm at in the house or anything cause I've had the phone a year now and the problem just started within the last month or so.
Insight on this would be awesome.
I have also noticed weird connectivity drops to no service and back. that only happens rarely and will restore i seconds. havent annoyed me that much that i needed to do something about it. I travel lots with train, and when this happens on train it seems to have more difficult to connect back. it does eventually but might be enough to drop streaming music from playing.
There is definitely something going on with Oneplus and APNs. (OP7 sms and mms issues etc)
I Recommend doing a full backup with Oneplus Switch and restoring factory defaults. Then you can restore backup. Most likely fixes issue that bad to same condition as ours. if it doesnt, take it to warranty.
