I just wonder is it possible to disable USb charging in Nexus One
until now i have fond nothing about this
i rely need this because i plug my phone for tethering at work
and the battery is 100% already there should be an option for this
Not sure why you need this, when the phone is 100% it will stop charging and draw power from USB while plugged in, surely this is preferable to rapidly draining the battery while being tethered?
the problem that i am using the phone for 8H for tethering (all the work time)

From what I've seen from other threads on the subject of charging, doing what's practically a full drain and then charging again will not only create more heat but may also shorten the life of the Li-On battery.

It's not that making it 0% before charging it kills the battery life. The Lithium Ion battery's life cycle is poor and that's what it's infamous for. What makes it's life shorter is the amount of times you charge it. When you charge it all the time you're reducing the life of the battery greatly. This should help with that subject.
As far as disabling USB charging, I've never heard of it and I don't think it would be possible. If it is, that's great. My question is; why don't you use WIFI Tethering? You get the same results and you don't have to charge to use it.
If your phone gets hot while tethering, just use SetCPU to slow it down a bit... or maybe use a task killer to get rid of some of the background tasks. If your phone's already charged to 100% then it shouldn't get hot just from being plugged in.

SetCPU wont have any effect on this because the battery is what is getting hot from charging.
I still don't understand why people even use SetCPU anyways.
Couldn't you modify a USB cable and clip the power wires? I know it might be a hassle but it would be a sure fire way to keep it from charging and I believe the data connection would still work. That way you could have a true data only cable.

I've found that it almost doubles my battery lifetime by reducing the CPU speed when the phoneis on standby to almost minimum... Otherwise my phone doesnt last all day (from 8am to 1am)... It is actually one of the most useful apps on the nexus for me at the moment...

Why not? Throttling my max clock while in standby and setting a max clock on under 40% battery, has helped me increase my battery life about 2-4 hours every day...

Most people misunderstand how a processor works. Your phone automatically idles at 386mhz. Setting a MAX does nothing but limit the availability. A 1ghz processor doesn't run at 1ghz consistently. A 1ghz processor just means that 1ghz is available. If your phone is sleeping then it's not using very much at all. The only reasonable change would be to change your MAX to something lower for Screen On or setting the MAX to like 100mhz for screen off. Other than that, you make no changes.

actually, that's a good thing to do. It's called battery calibration, and you should do it once monthly. Look at the links to get detailed info:

Yes, but not more often than that (I've heard numbers like every 50 cycles (~2 months)). Unlike other types of batteries, LiIon batteries do not like the full discharge / full recharge cycle.
Take the battery out. The phone will run off of USB power only. It works with my old G1. I haven't tried with my nexus though.

I just tried 'snipping' the power wire (Red) on a USB cable, now nothing happens when connecting the cable, it's as if the devices (Samsung Galaxy S and Nokia E72) need the power line to connect for data transfer.

in fact that's not a good a thing to do, the worst ennemies for liion batteries are heat and voltage stress.
voltage stress results from either full charge or full discharge , the optimal charging pattern is 10% - 90% (but partial charges in between are of no harm at all)
by all means try to avoid full battery drain and/or keeping charger plugged after full charge.
following these guidelines you should more than double you battery life span
I noticed that after unplugging my phone when it said it was fully charged the battery immediatley dropped to 97%. I found a thread in the Vibrant forum with people talking about their Vibrants doing the exact same thing. No one seemed to know what was causing it. Is anyone else seeing this with their phone? Should I be concerned?
it's normal on a Samsung phone. There is no fix. Sorry for the bad news.

Yep. From my experience I've discovered the following:
1. Keep it on charger for a extra 1 or 2 hour.
2. Charge it while off.
And you won't see that drop again. If you do one of those things.
It's normal on every mobile phone.

It is normal, it was designed to do that to prevent your battery from burning out sooner thus giving you shorter battery life in the long run.
If you want to truly charge to 100 percent, you bump it. Meaning when it says fully charged(its lying to you), pull out the usb charger, then plug it back in. When it says 100 percent again, pull out the charger, put it right back in, let it charge a few mins more. Keep doing this till you get bored. Doing this bumping technique will truly charge it to 100 percent, and it won't fall so quickly, but it burns your battery supposedly in the long run.
There was an article about it. Google bump charging battery, or something like that.

Yup -- once the battery reaches full capacity the charger stops (to avoid undue wear on the battery). The battery will discharge down to ~90% before the charger kicks in again.
On Nexus One we were able to run off of wall power once the battery was charged, significantly reducing the speed at which the battery discharged once full, and improving the chances of it being 99-100% when you took it off the charger. Nexus S has a different charge circuit configuration which does not allow it to operate in this mode.

If it's a Samsung phone, it's the norm to blame Samsung. Not Google and Samsung, just Samsung. I know, it doesn't make any sense to me either.

battery wont charge to 100%
I was wondering if anyone else was having a problem charging their Nexus S to 100%. I have recalibrated it by draining it then charging it while its off for about 8 hours.
Ever since I first got it would only go to 97%. I also tried to delete the batterystats.bin file and that's not working either.
If I bring it back to Best Buy should I relock the bootloader and get a new one or will they replace just the battery for me?

If your battery is low and you start charging it but using it at the same time, it doesn't get worse, but it doesn't get better either i.e. actually charge the thing, it just holds its own.
I have got to say I am not impressed with this!
I am not facing such problems. Charging takes pretty long yes but not as bad as you said. A larger battery will of course need a longer time to charge. But I wonder sometimes too if it's the battery problem or the charger output problem and if there's a way to speed up the process.

I think it is more to do with the actual charger, seems like a trickle charge or something.
Yes if charging and using at the same time you would not expect it to charge as quick, but mine doesnt really charge at all, just stays the same.
My acer iconia will charge like lightning even when i am using it, smaller battery or not it still charges!
This was one of the things i was looking forward to with the note, but this slow charge seems to make it more or less the same as what I am used to.
I have the usb plug which comes with the kindle, might it do a better job?
If anyone manages to find a proprietary charger which can produce better charging I will like to know too
That is common the charging is very slow and if you are playing HD games then the charging is almost in negative. May be its because of the voltage of the charger inputs and it is to low. Samsung must have done it for a reason may be its because of the proprietry port or the battery itself we do not know but we need to live it
Agreed, charging this thing takes a long time. Keep in mind that the battery is 7000 mAh and the charger is most likely a 2 amp charger, pegging the charge time at around 4 hours with no other losses. So if you're using it, it should take even longer.

No such issue here. I charge to full capacity while using all the time.
I get what he's saying. Because it draws so much power when you're using it; having it charging at the same time doesn't move the needle much. For example, if you're watching a movie while it's charging you'll probably be at the same point battery wise when the movies over. People complain about this all the time when their using their devices as a GPS. In some cases not only doesn't it charge but it actually continues to drain so you're worse off from where you started. We're using 21st century toys powered by 20th century battery technology.

This is a better way of saying what I mean, thank you.
I also have to say one thing I do not like doing is turning the screen brightness down. After all we all get these things as they look so good, so I am not going to make it look worse when I am using it, what would be the point in that? Its a bit like saying yeah my battery life is 14 days but actually it is on standby for that time lol...
Anyway, I still believe it should be better and the primary cause is the weak charger for what ever reason sammy decided to make it that way, but its not a good thing.
It seems like I remember someone recommending a charger that was more powerful so the note would charge faster. Can anyone confirm this?

The zslower charge rate protects the batteries life ,reduces the possibilty of heat and battery damage trickling insures a full charge

For all those facing the slight unresponsive screen please change the source of power, I had mine connected to UPS power supply as soon as I changed and connected it direclty the problem was gone.
Even if you read the user manual of Samsung Note its says thats one of the reasons
How Manhattan hours per day do you use the note? With a 10hrs battery life I find an overnight charge is sufficient

Anyway moving on.. so i just got my note 10.1 about a week ago, loving it but saw that while plugged in it was not charging at all while i was using the tablet and never quite getting to 100% overnight. By not charging while using, i mean to say that it was actually discharging. Yes of course i am using the stock charger and cable.. and even stock note.
so just tried something silly. Unplugged and plugged the usb from the block repeatedly about 5 times. Now its not only recognizing and charging, but charging relatively quickly even while using. To test, i unplugged for about 20 min and plugged back in. Same great results.
Just thought i would share instead of hoarding my new found knowledge like others..

Backstory: I've had my Nexus 4 since December 2012. I lived in San Francisco using T-Mobile through August 2013, and I've just moved to Sydney. I got a new sim through Vodafone here, and everything went well. Though my battery did drain a bit faster than usual, I employed Greenify and pretty much solved my problems. Fast forward to this weekend, I used my phone heavily all day and turned it off once it hit 2%. After getting back home for the night, I used it heavily while charging and everything battery/power wise and otherwise was behaving as expected. I went to bed with my phone draining and at roughly ~40% (making a guess) and not on the charger. I woke up at ~3AM, put the phone on the charger, and when i woke up at 6AM, it had only charged to 67%. This was my first sign something was wrong as I usually get a full charge in less than 3hrs. Over the course of the day, I monitored my phone and notice that whether on or off it charges extremely slowly as in 6+ hours still doesn't get to 100%. Additionally, using the phone while it's on the charger is net negative on the battery's charge as in it decreases albeit very slowly while using it on the charger.
I had my phone plugged in last night, and took it off the charger at 2AM at 100%. When I woke up at 6:15AM, I took the following screenshots (attached).
You can see that over 4h 15m off the charger and with no use the phone drained 44% with 37% coming from phone idle, 23% from cell standby, and 15% from wi-fi. This seems ridiculous to me. Can anyone help? What kind of troubleshooting can I do? It feels to me like this is hardware related as I get the problems whether the phone is on or off, but I'm not sure. I'm currently rooted and using AOKP Milestone 2. Here's a screenshot from about phone (attached).
Thanks for any help in advance! I'm really hoping to be able to fix this with software changes as I'd hate to have to buy a new phone with the Nexus 5 right around the corner.

Is anything wrong with your battery? If it is in very bad shape, you should probably get a new battery.
I don't know that even excessive wake-locks would cause a phone to charge that slowly, especially a Nexus 4.
Was it on the dedicated wall charger? Have you tried multiple chargers? Multiple wall sockets?

What's the battery replacement like for the N4? Can't be an easy job that's for sure.

I've used multiple chargers, usb cords, from computer, dedicated wall charger, etc. and it behaves no differently. How can I test to see if my battery is in bad shape or not? Also, how would you suggest replacing the battery?

Even though the battery stats isn;t showing the phone as awake, I wonder if there is an errant app causing a wakelock. I would definitely check with better battery stats to see if anything is preventing your phone form sleeping when not in use.

The problem is that it's not only discharging quickly while on but charging slowly while off.

Attached is what I see. Everything looks normal to me? Not sure what I should be expecting though.
When in doubt, frag out.. I mean BBS out..
Use betterbattery stats and it gives a lot more info and may help you pinpoint the issue..

94.64 degree fahrenheit for the battery. Is that high?

It seemed that google play services was sucking most of the juice, but this isn't always the case. I decided I was just going to go with flashing a new ROM, but even with USB debugging on and Connect as Media Device checked off in USB Computer Connection, I can't get my computer to recognize my phone via USB. I've tried this with two different cords, multiple ports on my computer, and even with a friend's computer. I'm starting to think my phone has just completely **** itself. Any advice?

your body temperature averages 98.6F. keeping your phone off and in a tight pocket on a warm day could raise the temperature to 95F. so, is 95F high?
Got exactly the same problem, already replaced the battery, but that wasn't the problem. Can t RMA because I'm not on the country Where it has been bought, so I'm really with my hands tied in here.
I already thought it could be the Qualcomm Power manager (IIRC) that is damaged, but that chip is soldered onto the mainboard..

Hi guys, I've got this phone passed down by my mum. It's an old Samsung Note 4 but it's still working fine except the battery readings are totally out.
When I mean totally out, it's like switching off when it hits 30%. Sometimes it keeps going on after it hits 0%. I tried keeping a battery pack on it but it'll just do the same thing.
Just like to know if it helps getting a new battery or is there anything I can do to 'reset' the battery?

When a Note 4 shuts off at 30% that usually means that the battery is toast. Get yourself a new Anker battery for $16.99.

Just like to know if it helps getting a new battery or is there anything I can do to 'reset' the battery?

Like previous stated, battery is most likely going bad. But I figured I give you an alternative to try first. It won't hurt.
Power off your phone and charge it to 100%
Turn it on.
In play store search for "Nema battery". The first result should be it. It's called "Battery Calibrater" and is by Nema.
Install it. And follow directions.
Most all battery apps are crap. But a few people told me this really does calibrate the phone.
Also take note of what amps capacity it says your battery has.
It maybe worth the try.

Just fired up the app and it says 4300mV max .
The specs of Note 4 states that the battery is Li-Ion 3220 mAh; Is that 4300mV?

That's the voltage. When it's plugged in, it'll be close to 5v. Unplugged it'll be lower.
That app might not have the reading I'm thinking of. No matter, you can try it.
Just for comparative proposes, I just installed it. And yes mine also shows 4300mv max.
But unplugged it's showing 3995mv, I'm at 75%.

I see.
I think a different figure shows up when I charge it turned on or off. If I hit 100% charge, it'll show up with less than that when I try charging it turned off.
I'll try the app once I get to 100%. Is that 100% referring to the phone being turned on or off while charging?

They mean with it on.
I only suggested charging it off. Cause it's suppose to charge fully better that way I guess. You'll be able to tell when it's fully charged that way. Either way probably won't matter for your case. Cause it's either gonna help or nothing much, then you'll know if you should move on and try new battery.

Yeah, you're right, last ditch effort to see if the battery works.
Another strange behavior is the speed of charging. I use the same charger with the same cable for this test. Funny thing is sometimes the battery takes ages to get to 50% from 0% but on good days, it gets from 0% to 50% in a snap.
Is this behavior of a faulty battery? Or am I dealing with a faulty circuit board? I'm on stock ROM so it's easier to troubleshoot.

I couldn't say. But it sounds like fast charge is working on and off. Probably bad aging battery.

How is the Anker battery?
