[BATTERY JUMPS] While charging - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys!
Somebody can help me??
I noticed that my S4 jumps from 94 to 100% while charging. And then, after remove the charger, the battery decrease to 97% instantly. My phone has 1 year of moderate use, 30 min for gaming. I bought a new battery and the problem continues.
What can this be?? I'm desperated, please..somebody...help!
As if not enough.....the battery drains 1% every 2 minutes on WiFi, and 1% every 1 minute on 4G. :crying:

Is the new battery really new? And is it genuine?

yes, it's new. Genuine I don't know, but it's ok in many tests. In another device, is 100% functional too.

Yes it can. A guy was struck by lightning over 10 times over the course of his life.
Anyway, I would do a full wipe and re-flash the software.

done. I reflashed an old ROM, the last Kitkat version, for tests. Running now. Let's wait. If the problem persists, I don't know what to do.

So what's the longest uptime you've had?

I just crossed the 350 hour mark and shooting for 1000 hours of uptime. This started as an experiment to see how long it would take without a reboot for the phone to slow down. So far, it's still running as fast as it typically does after a reboot.
How about you guys? I think I'm going to try and see if I can hit a month without rebooting.
I'm at the 250 hour mark now and the only reason it's not higher is because I've run it completely dry of battery a couple of times
edit:
Getting my 1600mAh and 2800mAh batteries from Seidio today though, so the counter is gonna reset again ;(
Iam on 380 hours of uptime in writing moment

With those new batteries how much longer can you expect to be able to use it say with standard use?
Mine lasts a full day mostly so far. Just curious.
Cheers,
M
I didn't look at mine. I normally don't have uptime of more than 24 hours since I frequently have to reboot to check the function of my morphs.
I've had about 280 before. Since I've rooted though, there's a bug in the superboot that I've done that wrecks the phone every other day or so. Something with memory card access. I'm trying to find a rock-solid ROM with himem and root. Speaking of that, suggestions?

This is the wrong thread for that, but I'd suggest trying all of them and testing yourself. That's part of the fun.
305 hours, had to reboot due to sms/signal issues.
Once and a while I will have service but will be unable to send sms. Weird.

No fair, you're on stock!
(I'm not speaking of stability here, but for those of trying new things we're always flashing )
I'm currently at 117 hours on Modaco's Desire Alpha10
Personally I'd say anything over 1 week (168 hours) is just awesome for me.

A little off-topic but ok. It's just simple math really, the standard battery is 1400mAh. The 1600mAh would therefore last 14% longer and the 2800mAh battery would last twice as long as the 1400mAh battery.
I'm at 630 hours right now. Probably the most I have seen it at but yeah, I don't really check that much. Do I win a prize?

btw, I Just posted a new DroidUptime version. Now it supports Android 1.5 devices.
270 hrs, then it rebooted by itself.

Can't you plug it into the wall jack so that you don't loose power while changing the battery? I can do this with my tilt. My previous phone had a switch on the battery door that shut it off. I'm not sure about the N1.
Mine is at 1171 beat me?

Battery performance after ROM Upgrade

I just flashed SyNthetic_aospX 1.0.0-BR7 on my HTC Glacier and started observing a little weird behavior with it. It died of battery, but when I restarted it, the phone showed 10% battery remaining.
I switched off and put it on charging, after 1.5 Hr, the charging indicator was still yellow but I switched on the phone and boom, it showed 100% charging and the led turned green. To double check I switched off the phone and plugged in, it was still showing yellow led. After around 45 mins, the battery was fully charged in off mode.
Is this some behavior known to anyone? Or it is time for my battery (my phone is still with original battery and it's almost 2 years).
Any help is highly appreciated ...
Well, first off, did you flash at 100% battery?
Second, is your battery swollen at all? It probably is after 2 years. I had to replace mine after a little over a year.
I can tell you that, even on CM7, I leave my charger off while in recovery because it might say 50%, but as soon as I reboot it might say 70%. A magical 20% increase in 45 seconds. Still, your battery behavior is off. If you decide to replace it, check out Anker.
Don't forget to flash another ROM to compare battery behavior.

Thanks estallings15, I initially flashed at < 100% but then realized my mistake so did a full wipe and then charged it to 100% (when powered off). And then flashed it again.
Seems my battery is little swollen, can't say though, I would give it a shot to replace it.
I tried another ROM but did not use it for full battery cycle, as I just love this ICS
If you decide to replace it, check out Anker.

I don't think doing any SW related stuff will do anything so you just have to wait and judge till you get current sot your new battery giving irrespective of full charge.
Also, how much time you waited to see if your old battery actually has a life before you changed it? I mean you obviously judge atleast 10 days before changing to see if its actually happening everytime after using any custom kernels or so,right?
I hace been testing diferent roms and kernels since dicember. Because I wanted to improve battery life. However I am not getting, the same SOT as other people says. In fact I get much less SOT thar everybody. So i decided to change muy battery

Yes 2-2:30 hrs of SOT is too low to accept.Till then test your new battery.

I had the same issue. To solve this issue
Drain your phone to 0% by playing games or music or anything you wish to
Now after the phone turns off itself, plug in your charger and let it charge over night(dont turn on your phone after connecting to charger)
Wake up in the morning and turn on the phone and use again till it becomes 0% again and after that charge it as you do normally and check if 100% shows up!

Weird Battery Problem

Hi.
So, I have a S4-i9505 running "Optimized LineageOS 14.1-Stable3" rom.
It has been a while since my battery is overheating a lot when I'm doing something that requires more performance from my phone, like playing a game.
And the weirdest problem is that my battery is dying with 45%~40%.
At first, the phone was dying at 15%, but day after day things got worse and it increased the percentage of battery to die. Like 15%, then 20% and goes on until 45% now.
I don't even have to say that's awful and veeeeeery annoying.
And usually the phone just dies when I'm using it. Whenever it's idle it doesn't die.
Does someone knows what should I do?
Change the battery. Most probably this one has reached the end of its life and it will only get worse, until the point where it won't even turn on anymore with your current battery.

Getting less than an hour of SOT with a new phone and battery

I am in desperate need of help, I've only had this phone for like a week and I really like it but the battery life is abysmal. I'm getting less than an hour of screen on time, the phone is using about 10% per hour when in my pocket.
I've done the factory reset, deleting everything, downloaded greenify and absolutely no progress has been made.
Phone Idle and Android OS is sucking up about 20% of my battery. For the first couple of days I was getting about 2 hours of SOT and that's the best I've gotten so far. I just bought this thing and I really want to keep it but I can't afford to have this thing dying on me when it's just in my pocket don't nothing. Please ANY help would be appreciated, thank you!

Seems to me you may have a flawed device? 2 hours sot at best with a new device and new battery is horrendous, I have the T-Mobile variant as well, was refurbished and I'm getting a solid 15 hours with anywhere from 3.5-5 hours sot! Depending on usage so I believe you may have a defective V20 friend. I'm going to keep an eye on this thread see if anything comes up

You could try getting an extended battery for it. It worked for mine. I recommend the Zerolemon 10,000mah extended battery. You can find it on Amazon.

That would mask the problem, not fix it. He would then probably get 2 hours of screen on time when he should be getting 6-7 with an extended battery.

Yeah every once in a while I get "Invalid Battery" and it shuts down and I have to leave the battery out for 10 minutes or else it will do the same thing. It's happened 3 times in the past week. Did you have the same problems and it was fixed with a new battery? I don't get it tho the battery is OEM...

Is the battery new, is your phone refurbished, water damaged battery? Old battery in New phone? Something is up with your battery it sounds like. Would be the easiest thing to replace and test. It could be the phone itself having a hard time receiving the charge (faulty pins)

The phone was new for sure, but the battery was already installed in the phone when I opened the box. Is that normal? I watched a couple unboxing videos and they had the battery separate.
