Google already started work on the first Nougat maintenance release, that will bring continued refinements and polish, and Google planning to bring that to you this fall as a developer preview. Stay tuned!
You have to be on Android Beta Program to get these updates.

Android Open Source Project lead Jean-Baptiste Queru announced on the official Android Building Group that Android 4.1.1, Jelly Bean has been released to AOSP. The release will be tagged as*android-4.1.1_r1 in AOSP, a slight bump in version number from the Google I/O 2012 developer preview*release. The “.1″ most likely represents a few last minute bug fixes or changes. The Android 4.1.1 binaries (JRO03C) have also been released for the*GSM Galaxy*Nexus*(maguro),*Verizon Galaxy Nexus (toro), *and new*Nexus 7*(grouper). The Nexus S and the Motorola Xoom will soon follow.*The full Jelly Bean source code can be download once it’s done uploading and replicating. JBQ estimates this will be around 9PM EST. Once complete, developers can begin downloading*here. What’s this mean for those that love to flash custom ROMs? First, be patient. It takes a long time to download and build Android. Second, amazing development teams such as CyanogenMod are*already on the job. Later tonight, they’ll begin doing what they do best, coding Android. We won’t see any official CM10 nightly builds just yet, so hold your horses. With that said, just because the CM is working on merging their changes into the Jelly Bean source, doesn’t mean that we won’t seen official, stock AOSP builds for the listed devices soon. The Android community never ceases to amaze us, we might just see a few ROMs pop up late tonight or early tomorrow morning. Keep your fingers crossed.

you were a little late on making the thread. one already exists.
I'm developing game for google daydream(their new vr platform) and zte axon 7 seems to be the cheapest android phone that is daydream ready. The problem is that in order to work daydream needs android N. Do you know what are their plans for releasing update on their phones/how fast they did it before?
At a rough guess I'd say that it will be some time after Google eventually release it. I also vaguely remember something somewhere about Daydream not being part of the initial release of Nougat but coming shortly after although a quick search has thrown up nothing.
I'm betting first quarter of 2017. I'd be shocked if it was before the new year.
Everything I've read is pointing to this year for the update they are selling it as "the first daydream phone" and I've read multiple places that they want to get it updated asap.

Every manufacturer says they want to update ASAP but all of them take longer than they claim.
Imagine if they "rushed" it out full of bugs and things breaking. As much as we depend on these things for life itself, I am happy if they take their time, do it right the first time, then release it! I work in IT and I know from first hand experience over 22 years that you're much better off doing it right the first time then to have to go back and hopefully fix the errors!
Apparently ZTE is part of the group of oems that have early access to the source of this new Android release. As they actively market this phone as "daydream" ready I'd assume they want it to work.
heck until today we had no idea when android would be released (supposedly mid to late August).
I think it will be before November when Daydream will come.
It's really close to daydream release date, are there any news about the android 7.0/7.1 update now?

I wonder what it means for the current 7.0 beta that is due to end in mid-December.
Many people claimed we will get an official 7.0 release in the next 2 weeks (still in 2016) but If Samsung is going directly to 7.1.1, it's more likely to postpone the release.
Sony, who wants to be the first vendor with a 7.1.1 release said they don't have a firm deadline yet because "the Xperia Concept developer team currently has the source code and is waiting for the application suite (GMS apps) and the Compatibility Test Suite (CTS) from Google." (Xperia Blog)
If that's the case, then Samsung is probably waiting on the same thing and with Samsung history of extremely-late releases of new software, I wouldn't be surprised if we stay with 6.0.1 for at least another 3-4 months..
Take it with a grain of salt (or ten), that all came from one reply to a member of the beta programme, and knowing Samsung, doesn't sound like something they would reveal like that, it's hard enough getting an answer about monthly security updates from them let alone an entire new OS version
7.1.1 is relatively small update to 7.0 so it shouldn't be a big problem for Samsung.

I read an article where nougat will release Feb/ Mar time frame for US carriers ...What's your input on this? I believe spring time but end of Jan wld be perfect!

I think its f***** stupid that we have to wait so long for a update, all updates should be beta tested on all android platforms and released at the same time just like Apple !
The parts of the world that are getting Nougat right now are just being beta testers by no choice. Millions of more phone users will help find any overlooked bugs. I'll be glad to be one of the last to get Nougat. At least I'll be getting the most stable release.
It would be nice if everyone got it at the same time but each carrier has to make the changes they want in and then they have to work out the bugs they have created and then they release to us. So I am waiting patiently for a stable release.
F*** the carriers and updates they pick and choose. I hate apple but damn. At least they roll out the ios updates WW for the most part and don't let a carrier dictate what will be used and what wont. Really don't understand why android and google do this.
Its not their fault it is the carriers who have to test it and add their bloatware. Nougat been finished
The android 10 official update yet to rollout.
Other non android one phones have rolled out android 10 for their devices . It feels so bad Mi a2 being android one phone still have no any official announcement regarding that. Even they do not have any roadmap for the release.
The December 2019 security patch has rolled out leading with a major Chrome bug inside that.
Since October Google had pushed the update from their side, but xiaomi is taking a lot of time in rolling out the update.
Also their is no beta version rolled out for the same for android 10.
Kindly the senior devs please spread this post to xiaomi, so that they will look into this.
Thankyou.
That surely is the last Xiaomi device I'm going to ever buy. Completely disappointed. The main reason I picked this "Apple boldness" device is the Android one project, second the price. Now I know it was kind of a waste of money for what I wanted and needed from a smartphone. Even Samsung are rolling out Android 10 with a lot more of useful resources sooner, when not, they offer roadmaps and news about it. Putting aside its stable security patches releases even for A5 2017, month after month, my previous daily driver.
