Hi XDA,
This is my second post now and since you diamonds here helped me out last time so well perhaps you could solve this one for me.
So after my noob post about rooting, unlocking the bootloader and flashing roms on a uk Atrix 4g i was guided through the process and ended up flashing the Aura Blurred rom...
Love the rom, could do with and OC Kernel but so far works flawlessly.
Anyway I have a few questions...
Firstly my phone thinks its an ATT phone now when its actually a UK Retail unit. is this Right?
Secondly today i receievd notice that an OTA update is available from ATT???
I cant stop this notification popping up every hour or so by pressing later. Can anyone tell me how to stop it coming up?
And lastly I have also bought the xoom2 media edition which I want to bridge to the atrix as you can with bb and playbook. There is a an app called Wireless Tether you are probably aware of which should allow me to tether the tab to the phone via Bluetooth then keep the Wifi connection that the Atrix has when conected to my home network..
As below
Router OR Network <---Wifi OR 3G---> Atrix <---Bluetooth (or Wifi if poss)---> Xoom 2me
Not
Network ONLY <---3G ONLY---> Atrix OR Router <---Wifi ONLY---> Xoom 2me
Lots of aps will allow the 2nd kind of connection fine but i want to use my phones wifi OR 3g conection whilst using my xoom2me not the Atrixs 3g or the tablets wif.
(Hope I'm making sense in my explanation here folks)
It seems the Wireless Tether app will do this, (please correct me if anyone knows different, i dont know just assuming) but here is the catch...
My kernel doesnt have netfilter capabilities and access controll...
Anyone know if i can flash a custom kernel over the Aura rom which will allow this and which one i should use?
Once this is done, will it allow me to use my tablet as extention of my phone ie calls texts etc?
To help with the answerind below are my phone details before I flashed Aura
•Motorola Atrix 4g (UK version) Second phone as busted the last one. Bought outright as a retail sale.
•Orange UK
•System Version: 45.31.0.MB860.Retail.en.GB
•Android Version: 2.3.4 (After UK released update)
•Baseband Version: N_01.100.00R
•Webtop Version: WT-1.2.0.133_38
•Kernel Version: 2.66.32.9 [email protected]#2
And now after Aura the above reads as below.
Motorola Atrix 4g (UK version) Second phone as busted the last one. Bought outright as a retail sale.
Orange UK
System Version: 4.5.91.MB860.ATT.en.US
Android Version: 2.3.4
Baseband Version: N_01.100.00R
Webtop Version: WT-1.2.0.133_38
Kernel Version: 2.6.32.9-MB860-GB-Faux123-v0.2.1
Build Number: Aura 1.2.2.2
Thanks once again XDA for any help and advice in advance...

Well first of all, whatever you wrote up there makes no sense at all. With that said, I'm going to try and have you walk me through this.
a.) Whatever ROM you flashed reports the device as an Atrix 4G and not an international Atrix:
It doesn't really matter.
b.) You want to use your phone's data plan to tether wirelessly with your tablet.
You need to find how to enable Ad-hoc networks on your tablet, not your phone. For some tablets support is built in (Asus Transformer), for others it's as simple as switching out the wpa_supplicant file, and the rest it's much more convoluted.
c.) You want your tablet to act as if it was your phone.
No, as far as I know, this is not possible. The closest you can get is using Google Voice and Titanium Backup to use texting apps like Whatsapp on your tablet.

Hi,
Thank you for responding... I wondered if i was making sense lol ill try to explain..
Firstly I flashed Aura rom for international phones and now my uk retail unit thinks its an ATT one. Im assuming this is just down to the programming of the rom I have installed but what has confused me is that I have received notice of an OTA Update asking me to down load or tap later to be reminded in 1 hour. not wanting to hard / soft brick or loose the rom and any data i have so far i can only get rid of this notice by tapping later... it then reapears every hour or so.
Is there a way of getting this to stop?
Also it states it has been sent to me by ATT. I'm in uk ATT does not exist in the uk and my updates are usually from orange or motorola??? Is the UK even due this update?
My second point was that i wish to have my atrix connected to my wifi router when in range and then have my Xoom 2 me bridged / tethered to it (like a playbook to Black berry phone) ie it would connect to my wif network but through my existing connection via the atrix, would allow me to use files from one or other device on each view messages, make calls etc etc etc (I hear the answer at c in your reply)
.... obviously when out of range the apps i have already alow me to tether to my phone via wifi for use of my 3g data plan.
My third point was that the app wirless thether which will allow me to tether the xoom to the atrix via bluetooth but will aloow the atrix to remain connected to my wif network at the same time tells me that my kernel doesnt have access control. In the apps help page it says that my kernel needs to have netfilter capabilities enabled for the app to work on my phone....
I cant work out which kernels will have this facility...
Hopefully this has explained it a bit better and I have made sense this time...
Thanks again for your help, Im always very gratefull to all those that share their knowledge...
if you want to stop the notification,
go to titanium back up and freeze FOTA
that will stop the notification.
---------- Post added at 06:18 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:17 PM ----------
download latest faux kernel and its 024 version for blur/gb version .
Do you want to make a local network between the tablet and the attic and have the atrix share the internet to? Hm maybe enable tethering and get an app that supports local file sharing over bluetooth or on Thea dame network

Hi, I know there are many Tablet SMS applications, but I want to know is there a way to make calls from your N7?
Preferably using my normal contract phone number, so people know its me.
Im sure I've seen it somewhere on the web on a video I saw, but havent a clue what it was called.
Im from the UK so no US only apps please.
Much appreciated.
You mean by Sim or by Wifi? If sim, impossible.

No I mean a little bit like TabletTalk, where it connects to your phone for example.
I don't mind whether its VoIP or whatever, I just want to be able to make a call from my Nexus7, that uses my phones number.
IVE SEEN IT on a Video which makes it even more annoying.

Tablet talk will allow you to answer calls as well you just need a bluetooth headset connected to your actual phone, it works in the same sense as the sms you phone is still the one connecting you are just controlling your phone with the N7

Thanks for your reply mate,
On the Video I saw it was using some sort of VoIP and used the N7's mic, no bluetooth mic needed.
I know that the connection goes through the phone which is fine, as how else would it get the number etc, but I don't want to buy a bluetooth headset.
It may have been GrooveIP but I think thats US only any UK alternatives?
THANKS !
EDIT - It was GrooveIP, what is the difference between GrooveIP and tablet talk?
As tablet talk is made by an XDA user and would love to support them rather than a company.
I've used groove IP on my phone and it does work in Canada but the sound can be glitchy. You have to sign in through Google to set it up, haven't tried it on nexus though.

Can any1 provide a UK alternate to Groove?
Why is it US only?

It is possible to call from SIM if you have a N7 with 3G.
Some Internet providers have also an Internet+Voice option that you can enable. With a specific rom or application that can pop dialer I am pretty sure that you can make calls with your Internet/Voice SIM. I didn't activate the option but I did activate an Internet + Messages option and sending / receiving them work like a charm. I'm pretty sure with a Voice subscription you can do that too, but do keep in mind, if you have a SIM slot.

It is US only because of the laws that GrooveIP must follow. It is the same reason Google Voice is so hard to deal with, because Google provides it for free but has to dodge some laws here and there. Google may require payment after 2013 (they have secure 2013 as free, though).
Hey y'all,
On Republic Wireless's website, they state you need to use the Moto X because of the way their software works to automatically switch you over to VOIP whenever possible. They said it is an issue with having the correct ROM on the device.
Has anyone gotten a hold of the ROM and tried to run it on a different device? I'd like to keep my SGS4 and if it's just an issue with a ROM then I don't see why it wouldn't work.
Here's my specific back story: I have an international SGS4 i9500. I've been using Airvoice Wireless for the last 6 months combined with a google voice VOIP phone number and have been loving my cell phone bill of $10/month. Up until this point I've been using the talkatone app as my VOIP whenever I have a wifi connection. Unfortunately, talkatone is going to start making its users pay for a membership to the app. As a result, I'm looking for other options and considering using Republic Wireless.
Someone on AC has the us unlocked version that you can buy from Amazon and BH and is using tmobile on it. They said wifi calling is hidden on it but if you go searching using an app like quick shortcut app you can find wifi calling and enable it that way.
If anyone has the unlocked model have you tried this? If this is the case I might just order the unlocked one.
So has anyone tried this? thinking about ordering it this weekend so would like to know.
It IS there. in Quick Shortcut maker.
I'm on AT&T and it appears enabled by default.
Not sure if it's actually doing anything - but it's there.
I got it turned on.

On the LG website for the unlocked version it list Wi-Fi calling as a feature.
On my phone I switched it to Wi-Fi calling only and it let me make calls with it
http://www.lg.com/us/cell-phones/lg-US996-Unlocked-v20-titan
how do we enable it though? nobody has given any instructions lol. there's no clear spot for it on mine, and I'm running it on Verizon. I searched everything related to wifi as a shortcut from Nova launcher and found nothing.

I downloaded the app quick shortcut maker and used it and search Wi-Fi calling and you will find it that way, then make a shortcut icon to it.
crazy. mine was already enabled by default and set to use wifi as priority even when mobile network available lol. weird. I switched it to use wifi as the backup instead.

H910 here.
I have the option in settings however when clicking on "Get Started" I get a dialogue saying I must confirm my address. Eventually this times out and gives a "network unavailable" error. Probably because its trying to contact an AT&T server but I have T-Mobile.

Wi-Fi calling on AT&T working
I was searching for this using the QuickShortcut app everyone was talking about and thought it didn't exist on my phone. For anyone who was searching for "WiFi Calling" and not "Wi-Fi Calling", you do need the hyphen and then I was able to change the setting. I'm hoping this saves somebody else some frustration.
hold on why is it confirmed it doesn't work? mines still on and i get HD voice often at home, and my lte usually sucks.. so im on wifi.

Will this work with Verizon too? I would assume so but I know Verizon is pretty stingy.

I would also like to try this as well.. i'm using a VS996 on Tmobile right now.. and 4G at home is spotty... so would LOVE wifi calling.
Anyone experiencing the title issue? It works after reboot for a while and eventually stops. I'm on .417 firmware but the issue started with previous version itself.

Which app do you use?
I use CSIPsimple. Works fine depending on latency of the network. Throughput is low (<100kBit/s) for best quality codec.
It sometimes has issues with the network configuration (WLAN). Then I use a TCP-VPN to circumvent the restrictions.

Why not? You asked if it works and I told you.
Besides: CSIPsimple
Calling via SIP saves me tons of money when traveling abroad and I am not depending on the mercy of my carrier LTE or Hotspot-wise.

I didn't ask whether VoIP solution works or not. Please read my question again, if you are not sure what they are, it's fine not to answer.
But anyway thanks for your suggestion.

You are welcome.
I know what I am talking about - maybe my answer suites you not.
What you want to hear about (I learned from your tone and replies) is another VOIP solution. Ingrained in the operating system and depending on your phone company.
I do not use this because it is a drain on battery (esp. on permanent reception) and I it does not work in many places with my operator.
We are splitting hairs here...
I don't have this issue. Are you using the phone purchased in your own country or an imported version?
They may have some carrier-specific tuning in the local version.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voice_over_IP
and there: Protocols (SIP is only a minor aspect)
I use
https://www.sipgate.de/
There are other offers in Germany but they work very well and I use their service for over ten years now.
The best known VOIP service is Skype but I would not touch it (unless my customers demand it) because of privacy concerns.
Going with your chosen VOIP provider can give you great rates and with some or no effort works with every decent (low latency) IP-connection.
CSIPsimple has some operators preconfigured so you just have to type in your login credentials.

I would not recommend this. You might end up with no calling at all or even a soft brick.
These phones are one generation behind and the software is for marshmallow.

1. Wi-Fi calling is the option in "Wireless & networks" in settings that when you enable it, you can make phone call with the stock phone app through wi-fi just as you are using the 4G/3G network as long as your network provider supported. It is not the same with SIP because wi-fi calling is still associated with your SIM card and you can still use your mobile number to receive calls.
2. I understand that I refrain to provide a risky way because not everyone knows how to restore their phone, but without change to the kernel, there is very little chance that the phone cannot boot back to recovery.
