Note 7 Features Discussion - Sprint Note 7 Guides, News, & Discussion

As you know, the note 7 is loaded with new features, many of which are not documented or know. For example, I found a video that showed me that holding the menu button enables spilt screen and tapping three times on the home button changes screen to one hand.
I would like to use this thread to share tricks and techniques that you've found while playing with the note 7. Thanks!
Sent from my SM-N930P using XDA-Developers mobile app

I could not get it to change to one hand by clicking three times, but the split method works...Also Smart View in the quick settingd is the miracast or allshare button...i shared with my computer...wonder what other hidden gems there are.

Thanks. I realize that most new note 7 users are busy trying to figure out all the new features. I just discovered a new feature that in my opinion is incredible. Go to s settings, secure lock settings, and then to smart lock. Here you can program your security so it will not promp you with the iris, finger print or any other security feature as long as one of the conditions you specify exists. For example, I set up so that the phone knows when I'm home and as long as I'm home, it will not promp me with a security feature. That really rocks. Check out this feature and let me know what you think.

Awesome

You have to turn on one handed operation in the settings before the three home button clicks will work. It's under advanced features.

[Q] customize the home double tap

as a user of power strip, i was extremely frustrated when i realized that the native double-tap function overrides whatever you set power strip to. coming from a droid 1 and cyanogenmod, i knew that there must be a way to take this function over.
after doing a lot of searching i came across this:
http://forum.androidcentral.com/motorola-droid-x/33482-disabling-customizing-double-tap-home.html#post349645
in that post zlandau mentions to edit a line in a database table in /data/data/com.motorola.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db
line 352 has a value of 'double_tap'.
zlandau mentions to change that value to "<program>/<activity>"
assuming that this method will work for what i want to do [restore double tap to power strip], i'm not sure how to call the app properly.
if someone's able to help me out with this i'm pretty sure it will benefit everyone, as it will finally provide a means to disable/customize the function.
[btw i posted this over at droidforums, but figured i'd throw it up here for a quicker response]
also, once this is figured out, maybe someone could make an app to modify this and throw it on the market. i'm sure it would help a lot of people out. droid 2 and X users alike
after messing around i figured it out, with the help of launcher pro activities.
i didn't realize that the table extended to the right and when i saw the action that was set through the system i realized what i was missing.
i was looking for this
'mobi.intuitit.android.p.powerstrip/mobi.intuitit.android.p.powerstrip.PowerStrip'
however, if i set launcher pro as my default launcher and change the doubletap action to power strip, when i double tap it goes home then launches power strip.
i'm going to try just removing the value all together.
I like where this is headed!

That was a good find. I am thinking of what I want my home double tap to be
The problem is that it still takes you home before launching power strip, when it would be best to have it just launch power strip in the current program you are in... I ran into the same problem with quick desk. I settled on using smart taskbar instead because it can be launched by a swipe action, floating icon, or the notification area. And it launches over your current app window. The developer is very responsive to suggestions as well.

activity name?
I would like the double tap to launch google voice
how do I figure out what the name of the startup activity is?
I know the app is com.google.android.apps.googlevoice and I've guessed some generic activity names like com.google.android.apps.googlevoice.GoogleVoice but no luck so far
you can change the double tap home key by going into settings then applications then it will be the last option. not sure on the camera button

Share A Really Good Tip with Note 3 Users

Hi guys,
Now that you've spent some time with your Note 3, how about sharing your top recommended tip with the community.
This tip should be more like your personal experience with the device. I'll go first...
Switching to Nova Launcher Prime with system animations set to fast took my user experience to an all new level...be sure to use "zoom fade" effect on nova settings...
Great thread, I used to use card stack, but changed to zoom fade, thanks for the tip, the tip I would share would be invisible lock screen widget, place it on your home screen, and turn your phone on stand by without any icons showing.
Sent from my SM-N9005 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Will try this out soon thanks!
Here's another tip: After trying a lot of hd wallpaper apps, I found "ZEDGE" to be the best in terms of wallpaper clarity and variety. I now use this app and filter out newest wallpapers with stunning picture quality.
Quick Torch access
There is a setting to allow the flash to be used a s a torch quickly while the screen is off. You long-press the Volume-Up key to start it, and press the Volume-Down key to stop it. It also has an optional timeout setting.
To get this setting, called 'Torch Light' I use the 'Activity' shortcut in SSLaucher, as it is not in the normal settings. You can also use the 'Activity Launcher' app. Once set, you do not have to set anything again.
Here's a good one....want Developer options? This is bizarre, but go to 'About device' in settings, then to your build number which appears greyed out. Click it about three, four times, it'll say 'you're almost a developer' and then bam it'll say you are, go back to settings and wala, you'll see a new 'Developer Options' tab! Kinda strange way to get it to show, but it works.

Man this has to be the best tip that I've seen so far hands down...I literally installed spare parts plus to get the dev options and make animations faster!
Off to unistall spare parts and see the shiny developer options in settings! Thanks a ton mate!
TIP to Reduce Number of Button Press on Note 3:
So this is a tip to substantially reduce the number of times one has to press the power on and home button.
Install "lock screen widget" from the play store (free) and place on ure home screen...it automatically switches off screen on touch...
For those of you who long press the home button to get the multi tasker up...configure the swipe up action in your non touchwiz launcher to open the "recent apps" list...
*Bump*
- Under Settings--> controls --> SPen you can set S pen Keeper, to alert you if you ever walk away without attaching the Spen. In case you forget it. Which has happened to me twice so far. :silly:
In settings/device/accessibility and under the section of mobility you can select the assistant menu and a little pop-up menu will give you some nifty shortcuts if you are using the s pen and don't want to press the home button of s shame with the pen hahaha it's just terrible to do it.

Thanks for the s pen tips guys...though I've really not come around to using it often on a daily basis.

[Q] Smart Lock enabled but temperamental in Lollipop / N910FXXU1BOC3

So after a bit of digging around and research, I managed to find and enable Smart Lock. For those of you who didn't know, it's hidden under Security > Trust Agents. After you've enabled, a new 'Smart Lock' menu appears at the bottom of the Security settings menu where you can manage your Smartlock features. Interestingly, it also features the new 'on-body detection'.
So I set it up about 3 days ago but it doesn't always work for me and I'm questioning if it works at all. My lock screen is set to re-enable after 10 minutes of inactivity so it may just be that I logged in during this time and thought that it may be working. I have 3 differen't ways of using smart lock, all of which are enabled: 1= Bluetooth devices including my Moto 360 which is always connected 2=Location, my home address and 3=On-body detection.
But yeah, as I say, it doesn't seem to be working as 90% of the time, I still have to enter my pin to access my phone. Anyone else tried this or willing to test it out? I'm running the first N910FXXU1BOC3 release from Netherlands/Samsung Experience stock.
bumpy - Anyone!?
Went out of the country and decided to try it out, was working great, but here and there I noticed that the phone gets unlocked in the pocket on second day of using this feature, my pictures and music folder has been deleted, I suspect that it happened accidentally in the pocket... Don't have any other explanation. I would avoid this feature while traveling or if you have to pull out phone quite often.
I'm also having the same issue, mine doesn't work when using Smart lock with my Moto 360, it keeps asking for my finger print to unlock...
I have used On-Body Detection and I can say that it worked great from my point of view. One thing to mention, i don't keep my phone in the pocket of my pants, always pocket of my jacket so did not have any issues with unlocking by itself and performing random operations.
But on BOC3 i did notice that the phone was constantly awake and one of the things i tried was disabling on-body detection i can see now that the wakelock issue was resolved and i'm getting a estimated 3 Days left on 80% battery. From my point of view this is more important that unlocking the phone easier
And regarding the trusted devices part and pairing with a smartwatch, i don't see the security benefit of that as the Bluetooth range is quite big. From a security point of view, trusted devices based on a Bluetooth link is not a good idea.
Its not working at all for me with 'Trusted Devices' - I use my Motorola 360 as a trusted device and it all confirms its set up. The only change it actually makes though is that when I wake up my phone, I have to swipe up to access my pin entry screen. Whereas if I disable smart lock, I get straight to the pin entry screen! This was a completely clean flash of BOC5 (Lux) all data, system, cache, etc was wiped and formatted before install through ODIN.

Are you guys sure that you're using the feature correctly?
Swiping from the little lock icon on the bottom of the screen, brings back your specified secure lockscreen. It is a way to secure your phone again, even if a trusted device or other set conditions for Smart Lock are met.
Swiping from anywhere else on the screen should unlock the phone without any security checks.
Works 100% of the times for me.
Check out this video I made to explain it better:
Smart Lock works awesome on my phone. I have my truck's bluetooth as a trusted device and I set up my home as a trusted location. Both work flawlessly but one thing I had to do was add an additional location for my home along with the preset "Home" location I had set up in Maps a long time ago. It wouldn't work until I manually added the 2nd home location.
It's a great feature.

Thanks!
It's just not intuitive. I didn't think to swipe outside the lock ring.
Is it possible ty by-pass unlock screen completely, when in "trusted zone"? Without root.
I'm currently using KNOX and have lockscreen disabled.
If I enable lockscreen (to check its features etc), to disable it again I would have to delete my KNOX container.

I suppose it's a matter of personal preference, I like the idea of being able to quickly secure my screen without, for example, disconnecting my BT earphones. Plus, it's more difficult to aim for the little lock icon than to actually swipe in the middle of the screen.
I am not sure about your question as I don't use the KNOX container, sorry! It sounds though as a security measure that is not possible to bypass. But I could be wrong.

Disabling double tap home button of several Lollipop ROMs?

As many of you know the double tap home button is a special feature to launch the camera of many roms.
I don't use this feature. I only use the home button to get to the home screen. The problem here is that the phones has to wait for the second click every time. I think the lag is ~200ms.
How can i disable this? It's so annoying for me, the phone feels sluggish because of this feature.
Go to camera and then go to settings and disable quick launch
Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
Thank you but there is no option for that in the Note 3/4 camera. But i already installed the s6 camera and even that didn't fix the lag. I just want to get rid of the stupid waitstait. =(

Any app to turn s10+ screen off?

I know guys, there are a ton. But so far I found only two kinds:
- Some completely block your phone, not allowing you to unlock with face or fingerprint.
- Some -idk why- turn off the screen and randomly turn it on inmediatly after. This doesn't happen evertime, but it's a problem cos if you have smartlock activated then the screen is on and phone in unlocked...
I just want a way to imitate the power button single tap function. I don't like pressing physical buttons, I use a gesture to turn the screen off before putting it inside my pocket. And yesterday I pocket-dialed two people...
Nova has a double tap to sleep function, and greenify used to have a short-cut to the same thing.

I use Gravity Screen Pro. It has a pocket sensor setting, turn screen off/on by proximity, screen on/off by motion, fingerprint unlock, etc.
Either Gravity Screen or KinScreen. I have premium for both but have been using KinScreen for the past few years as it was stable than Gravity Screen, but I haven't used Gravity Screen's latest version either.

So i initially tried using Nova double tap gesture. It would turn the screen off but a second later it would go to the lock screen. Now i use Good Lock by Samsung and i actually like it a lot. In Good Lock go to the the "Family" tab - (no idea why it's called this) and then select One Hand Operation +.... I created a Small Right handle that turns the screen off when i slide it. Works great and i have yet to activate it by accident.

What region are you in? Weird, because it's an official Samsung App... let me know if you can't find it and i can post the apk for you... Also, make sure it's the 1.0.00.46 version, as they just updated it to work with Pie.
I also am desperate for this feature. Tried all of the apps and all of them go to the lock screen for some reason. I contacted a couple of developers but idk if they can do anything. Tried the one hand gestures and it does work but the thing is I still prefer double tap to lock instead of those swipe gestures. I think this feature should be natively supported like on almost every other android phone.

I use Nova for that: ||>>>Gestures & Inputs>Home button>Screen lock(uncheck "only on main home...")
then go to 'Gestures' below, click "Swipe up" and also check "Screen lock" Now, I use 'Full screen gestures" for nav bar already, so that Nova gesture setup is not messing up the nav bar gestures but rather compliments it. Example: I have some app open on the screen and swiping it up(w/o Nova) in the center would bring me to the Home screen(and that is being mimic w/Nova too) then the second 'swipe up' locks the screen. Simple, quick double 'swipe up' from any app does the trick, if you are on the home screen already then you just swipe it up only once.
I also use full screen gestures. The problem is not the gesture. The problem is that I need an app to turn off the screen. There are like a hundred apps that do that. But they all have one of the two problems I said before.
I'll look for the good lock in a bit. I have to find the apk.
"there was a network or server error. Try again later. The mapper function returned a null value"
I'm getting this error when I open good lock. Apparently it's not supposed to be use in Argentina. I'll try Nova launcher now.
