[Q] Going back to 4.4.4 - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Currently running the latest/last Euphoria rom on my n4, prior to that it was factory OTA'd up to 5.1 so the radio is bang up to date I would imagine.
For nostalgic reasons, I want to flash Mahdi rom. Is it as simple as flashing the rom on twrp, or will I need to flash via adb the the newest 4,4.4 radio too? I don't want to run into wifi/signal issues down the road.
Thanks.

I recommend flashing TWRP and then the ROM. If you run into an issue, then start changing bootloadesr and modems.

[Q] Upgrading to 4.4 from 4.2, Questions

XDA,
I am currently running PA 3.69 (Android 4.2.2) with stock PA kernel and a .48 modem, and I am looking to flash the new CM11 M3 snapshot (4.4) with franco.Kernel and put on MultiROM with Ubuntu Touch. I have been out of the custom ROM scene for a while and I would like to make sure I get this right the first time.
Do I need to flash a 4.4 modem before I update the OS? Then, do I just flash the .ZIP from CM's website from within CWM? Or should I grab a factory image from Google and start from there?
Also, should I flash the franco.Kernel immediately after rebooting into the ROM, or does it not matter? I had problems with flashing kernels on my old phone after the OS had already been running for a long time.
Thanks in advance to all of you guys, you're an awesome community to be a part of.

Both kk modem and bootloader aren't mandatory but they are recommended
While you're in recovery flash the desired kernel after the rom but also you can do it after reboot
And... There are help threads here where you can start rather than opening another topic

[Q] Upgrading from 4.3 Custom ROM to 4.4 KitKat

Hi!
It has been a long time since I used my old Nexus 7 which is running a Custom ROM (PurityROM) which is version 4.3 Android. Do I need to do something else to flash a 4.4 KitKat Custom ROM (Dirty Unicorn 4.4.4) or can I flash it without doing anything (new bootloader, etc)? it has been a while for me.
Thanks.

That's an easy one! Just factory reset in recovery a d flash the new ROM and gapps afterwards, then you're on your way.

Does updating Custom ROM require a factory reset ?

Hi I currently use the custom ROM Renovate 2.1, and want to update to 3.0, which was just released on 22nd July.
So if I just want to update a custom ROM, do I still have to backup all apps with Titanium Backup, and do a factory reset with TWRP before flashing the updated custom ROM? Or can I skip these steps?

So I just did a dirty flash anyway, and it seems I didn't lose anything, but I just noticed that Xposed Framework is now gone.
Do I lose anything besides Xposed Framework after dirty flashing a new version of a ROM?
By the way, do people usually dirty flash when updating a custom ROM? Is it safe to dirty flash when installing a new version of a ROM?
Usually its specific to the ROM that you're trying to flash. However, as a reference, if there aren't any major features added, it's probably safe to dirty flash it. They'll hopefully indicate if you should wipe in the instructions, though.

Help needed for upgrade

Hi there,
I'm using 4.4.2 wanamlite 2.9 rom on a i9505 with twrp 2.8.
Recently I encountered lot of problems like modem not working properly, rebooting, videos playing in slowmo, no sound etc... weird stuff...
I'm convinced to upgrade to (lets say) marshmallow (any custom rom) but I dunno how to do it properly. So here my questions:
- should I flash the stock rom and start again with root / custom rom etc? Or...
- should I upgrade with odin to stock modem and bootloader first, and after that install a custom rom via twrp? Which way is the correct one?
Btw. Should I upgrade to lolli, marsh or 7.x? Dunno whats better. I'm using touchwiz with xposed framework. I dont need tw but i find xposed very helpful. Any advice or link to guides?
Thanx
Upgrade the individual components. In your case, that means recovery, bootloader, and modem via Odin. Your copy of TWRP is ancient and the newer versions of Android need a newer version of TWRP to properly flash them. Once you've upgraded the components, download any Android 6.x ROM for your device - since you want Xposed - and flash it via TWRP. Android 7.x ROMs are available for your device, but Xposed does not work on them, and I don't expect it to work any time soon.

Thanx Stephron.
Yesterday I updated via .img the recovery (TWRP 3.2).
Now I'll look for bootloader and modem. Should I use the stock ones or are on xda some threads with better modems and bootloaders?
I think I'm going for resurrection remix or for some aosp. Any experience?
Best and happy new year .

installing Rom with different base?

I'm finally rooted and running stock 10j based rom. My question is, if I install a rom with another base, say weta Rom which is think is running 10k, will I run into problems? I tried upgrading my base with a 10k twrp flashable zip but ended up losing root and twrp.
