I haven't had an AT&T branded phone in a very long time. So I don't really have much experience with all the crap they do to our phones.
I noticed that when I open chrome, for a split second i see an AT&T URL and then it opens the Google search page. I checked the Google site certificate and they aren't intercepting the SSL connection. Other than tracking the page, I'm not sure what they would be doing. Anyone else notice this on their phone?

Chrome has a default home page of home.att.com which just forwards to google.com. Just change the home page to google.com or whatever else you want.

I don't really get why they do that. Fortunately it's an easy fix.
I didn't even notice the behavior until you pointed it out here.

Shame the XDA app forces closed on Xoom... does anyone have a workaround?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA Premium App
this is a known issue and hopefully someone is working on it.
Tapatalk is basically the same app and works fine
i have the same and I paid for the app.......is anybody actively fixing this?
I have been using the XDA app since day 1. The only thing I have found I have to do is exit fully when done. I.e. I hit the back button till the app closes. If I leave it open for any significant time in the background it either gets stuck on the splash or whatever page I was on last. At that stage I force close and reopen it.

for some unknown reason the app works fine on the verizon xoom, but FCs for wifi-only; someone reported the same problem on the wifi-only transformer, so its got something to do with honeycomb without mobile data (some kind of id# or something?)

Wow. Really? So THAT'S why it crashes on tablets? I had always assumed it had something to do with the resolution being much higher than on a phone, but since you say the Verizon XOOM works, that blows that theory out of the water... I am going to see if my superiors have any idea why this is happening or if they can contact Tapatalk to fix the problem.
Fyi this problem does not exist on tapatalk.. has to do with something xda does differently
Sent from my Xoom using Tapatalk
I have the Verizon xoom as well and I never had a force close. It does act weird sometimes, but it does on my nexus one as well.

Also goes along with what I've heard in the past... From what I've read, Tapatalk's standard client used to have this issue, but then it was fixed. Perhaps the XDA app can be rebased to the newer Tapatalk.
I have had no FC's on my WiFi only Canadian MZ604.
What I do have, though, is a weird scrolling issue on certain threads where the text will copy itself onto every pixel it crosses until I stop scrolling and the screen refreshes.
I did note that it seems to happen mostly with hyperlinked text. Another possibility is text that has had it's color changed. Will have to play around with it some more to confirm this.
i just use the browser now. Its no big deal with the bigger screen.
It would FC on my Nook Color as well, which is wifi only. I was hoping for a better experience once I got my Xoom wifi (I also got the paid app) but it behaves exactly the same: as soon as I log in it FCs.

This happens to me on both xda and tapatalk, I think its a combo of hyperlinks and long texts... weird thing is, it happens in quoted text too, but not in the post that quotes the text

I would agree with you, but vBulletin forums (like XDA) are unacceptably laggy in typing posts on the Xoom.
That, and it's good to have options.

LOL Funny, I found under Privacy in Settings, on the top there is Clear Browsing Data. Maybe with some more exploration, there might be a list?
On the Stock Browser for ICS, if you hold the back button it takes you to history and bookmarks... Nothing similar in Chrome it seems....
I really like Dolphin and UC browser but both of them leave stuff running even after you've closed the app. If you look in settings, apps, running apps, you'll find that there are services and processes that are still running long after you've finished using the app. UC browser actually runs even after you've chosen 'quit' from the menu!
Boat browser is far better behaved and so is Chrome but Chrome has no full screen mode and Boat a little clunky to use.
Am I right in thinking that these running processes are using my battery?
I've emailed support for both UC and Dolphin about this and while they're quick to reply about other issues, they are both strangely silent about these running processes..
Can anyone suggest a browser that runs full screen and doesn't pound the battery?

AOSP browser?
Try Naked Browser. It doesnt leave anything running and is very lightweight, with flash support and all. Try the free version first from the description of the play store app.

So i guess your device have tue stock android browser installed, that wont ruj in yhe background, and therefore no battery impacts(i think).
In the menu, you can choose full screen to maximize the space
Hope it helps you

Hmm...
That's strange. For some reason it says "your device is not compatible with this version" when I try and install it!
Is it not supposed to work with the N10?

Maybe you can try “lightning browser”, its fast. However, in my own experience, i dont like the little options for me to choose and the full screen mode of it, coz in full screen mode I must scroll to the top and overscroll to bring-out the tabs which is not so convience in my view, but i think you might give a try.
P.S. The free version of this browser supports only 5 tabs and 5 bookmarks, plus version dont have the restriction
pay or g00gle it (seqrch for #APP_NAME apk) to get the plus version

Hmmm, it ran for me at once, but I guess that was cos I was using a custom ROM. Try one with Hybrid settings and compatibility view - Rootbox, PA or PACRom. Or maybe install it on your smartphone, and then try porting it through titanium backup, might work.

You can always get the current version of Naked Browser from the web site here: http://nakedbrowser.com/android/
Dolphin had been phoning home all visited URLs to their server, even unencrypted https URLs which is a serious blunder. They're not the only ones pulling crap like this. Most Android browsers are spying on users in some way.
In response to this situation, I made Naked Browser. It will never spy or monitor in any way. There aren't even ads. It does not run on boot, does not phone home data, etc. It is just a web browser. If you use the exit button, it actually exits. If you return to your home screen, it goes to sleep and does not wake up unless you go back to it. Here's the XDA thread for it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1929663

Here's an analysis of the current Ocean Browser APK: http://mobilesandbox.org/xml_report_static/?q=356301
Some interesting items:
android.permission.READ_CONTACTS
android.permission.GET_ACCOUNTS
android.permission.USE_CREDENTIALS
android.permission.READ_LOGS
Execution of external commands
Cipher(AES/CBC/PKCS5Padding)

android.permission.READ_CONTACTS
It is not widely known but apps can query contact data without requiring the READ_CONTACTS permission in the manifest. Why would a web browser need to read your contact data?
android.permission.GET_ACCOUNTS
android.permission.USE_CREDENTIALS
These could potentially be used by the browser to auto-login to Google but they could also be used for really evil purposes.
android.permission.READ_LOGS
Basically no app should have this privilege. All kinds of data can be gathered this way.
Execution of external commands
This is scary because it means the app may be extending its tentacles almost anywhere, especially if you are rooted.
Cipher(AES/CBC/PKCS5Padding)
They're encrypting data, presumably to phone it home. WebView-based browsers do not need to do this as the WebView component handles all encrypted traffic. This is something extra added by this app which may have a legitimate use but may also be phoning home data about users.

Some of the time it's the CSS displayed on the screen. If it's older CSS standards, I believe that's what is happening.

In the Google Now app, I went to Settings -> Accounts & privacy, and I disabled the SafeSearch option, however whenever I search for anything that is NSFW, I get the following result in the All, Videos, & Images tabs: "Your search - lesbian porn - did not match any documents/video/image results" (see attached).
I get this only on my new GS7 Edge (Android Marshmallow, non root) & it doesn't matter if I'm on my home WiFi or 4G LTE w/ Verizon. I only have this issue on my phone. My other devices using the same Google account do not have this issue, including my Surface Pro 3, Toshiba Laptop, my GS6 Edge (Android 5.0.1), or anyone else's device in my house for that matter.
I can still search for NSFW stuff using Google in my Chrome app or Firefox. So what gives?? I need the quick access using the Google Now app!! Lol
