Could someone recommend a good pair of bluetooth headphones and firestick game pad?

Make sure to get headphones with built-in volume control. There is no way to control volume on firetv.

Well apparently it's possible to do it via adb but it's well out of my league.

Bluetooth audio can lag for up to one second behind the actual content.
It seems to vary with different devices, but it definitely is an issue.
Sadly its one thats hard to rule out before you buy a headset - because people like what they bought. I just googled sennheiser's momentum 2 and latency - and you get mixed reports. Some people say aptx (which the firetv doesnt support) is causing the issue - some say it is solving it... Some say there is no issue at all...
So worst case scenario is, that you move through five different headphones and find, that the audio lag is still unbearable.
Thats why people usualy go for RF Headphones in that szenario. That said - RF hadphones need an audio jack and the Amazon Fire TV (/Stick) devices don't have any in their current iterations. So you would plug them into the Audio jack of your TV instead - if the TV has one.
Wirecutter has a new article on them - but I dont agree with the verdict.
h**p://thewirecutter.c*m/reviews/best-wireless-home-theater-headphones/
I like open headphones better than closed ones for pretty much any purpose - so I like the RS 120 II's better than the RS 160 or the RS 165. I havent tried the RS185s. I measured both the RS 120s and RS 160s (which I own) and can tell you that they show the same spike at 4Khz - so when the reviewers complained about some hiss on s sounds, they suddenly liked that on the RS160, I guess - I've never found it to be an issue at all for TV listening. In fact I like it that both of those headphones tend to heighten the mids a little. The RS120 has much less bass - but I actually prefer that as well in most situations, because your ears dont get tired listening to the headphons as soon. Long story short - I very much like the RS 120 IIs (not for music listening, but for watching TV).
If you go the bluetooth route - please report back - id be interested in some additional findings about the usual latencay. When I paired BT speakers with my Fire TV, sound always lagged considerably.
---------- Post added at 07:43 AM ---------- Previous post was at 07:21 AM ----------
Found a bit more usable information. Curiously on a manufacturers website.
h**ps://sennheiserusa.happyfox.c*m/kb/article/108-why-is-there-an-audio-delay-when-using-a-bluetooth-dongle
The A2DP protocol adds a latency of 120ms - which is too much for watching TV. Certain BT devices and headphones thereby switch protocols for phone calls (they then use HFP which is a very low quality audio transmission protocol). I'd guess, that the Fire TV (Stick) will not do that.
So analog to those findings I am willing to believe that aptX would solve those issues, but none of the Fire TV devices supports it.
Hence - there will be lag if you don't go the RF route. The Fire TV (/Stick) will be using the A2DP codec.
---------- Post added at 07:57 AM ---------- Previous post was at 07:43 AM ----------
edit 2: Turns out the issue also has an android specific angle:
h**p://www.androidpolice.c*m/2015/11/13/android-audio-latency-in-depth-its-getting-better-especially-with-the-nexus-5x-and-6p/
You might be able to live with a 50ms+ delay - or you might not... But 50ms+120ms (A2DP) will be a a bit much in the end... You can easily gage how much of a delay there is (or how it would sound like if there was ) by using the audio delay compensation settings in Kodi. But in the long term always using Kodi to compensate for it isn't ideal and very bothersome.

With my FTVS I use 66 Audio BTS+, Rocketfish RF-MAB2, and Motorola S305 headphones. None introduce any noticeable lag for me, but at least the first set has a quirk where if you get a weak connection and they stutter, they do begin to lag until I pause and resume the stream. Not a problem for me, it's usually fine.
The FTVS is finicky about pairing multiple devices. I often have to unpair my headphones and re-pair them if they've connected to another device in the meantime, or if another set of headphones has been connected to the FTVS.
I'd also recommend using a 5GHz wireless connection if possible so the 2.4GHz band is less congested for the BT stream.

Car speakers over bluetooth flat

The equalizer built in works very well over a wired connection, but over bluetooth sound is flat with a lot of quality loss. Any ideas if it is resolvable? I already enabled the enhanced stereo option in bluetooth options.
Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk
by flat do you mean there is not a lot of hi and low?
Bluetooth at this stage (2.0) as far as i know won't sound close to even an analog wired connection. but for me it's "good nuff" considering i like the feature of just getting in my car and hitting play and not have to wire anything up to the phone.
Which application are you using, I could try doing a sound test between both.
I do understand what your saying my old windows mobile phone sounded about as fair as an FM radio over bluetooth, when i looked into it seemed to just be limitation of the protocol
Right now my sound system is lacking (no sub, the mains can only reach down to 90hz) so at this time I can't get good est of the differences with the sound to compare my phone to yours.
But when i had my windows mobile it wasn't so much "flat" it just sounded like a 96kb mp3, like it be re-encoded kinda, it still had good range.
You may also want to look into your receiving bluetooth device and how good the reviews are on that.
hope i've helped a bit

Music won't stream over Bluetooth in car

To set this up, I'm using my Nexus 4 with stock software and connecting in my car to a JVC KD-X50BT (link below). It has worked flawlessly with my Droid RAZR and Galaxy Nexus, but I can't get it to work correctly with my Nexus 4.
I can connect without a problem, both phone and media on my Nexus 4. It has no problems making and receiving phone calls, but when I try to stream Google Music the sound comes out of the phone's speaker instead of the car speakers. If I go into the Bluetooth settings on the Nexus it says I'm connected to phone and media.
Is anyone else having these issues? Any ideas on how to fix?
Thanks!!

I had a similar issue where I could not even pair my phone. I cleared all devices from my receiver and was able to pair my phone. I know your situation is a little different but it is worth a shot resetting the receiver.

Good tip...I'll try that.
Thanks!
Have had no issues connecting just audio quality is ... blah over Bluetooth it seems here.
Anyone else?
On my GNex BT was always having problems connecting audio with my car - taking several attempts sometimes (real ballache if I stalled!). On the N4 connect first time, every time. The quality sounds better too (higher data rate possibly).

How exactly do you do Music over bluetooth? My car will only pair as an "Audio Device", and will connect to my Nexus 4 for phone calls, contacts, and recent call history. Is there an option to enable the device as a "Media Device" hidden somewhere in the Nexus 4 settings?
Another quick, related question... Has anybody gotten Audio through the USB port? Over MTP? (Besides you people with Ford Sync)

Most cars, other than the latest model year or two, for whatever reason don't support BT music streaming. Even high end cars. My buddy just picked up a 2010 Mercedes S550, and the BT won't support music streaming. A complete joke for a $105k car in my opinion.
Do yourself a favor and get a decent aftermarket solution.

If I purchase this device (http://www.amazon.com/GOgroove-BlueGate-Wireless-Bluetooth-Headphones/dp/B00727FE5U/), will the Nexus 4 stream its Bluetooth to that? Or is the Nexus 4 non-compatible? I've seen in other places that the Nexus 4 will not transmit audio over bluetooth. Is this true? :'(
Attached, a screenshot from Bluetooth Settings. Under "Profiles", Phone audio has been selected for a Bluetooth Headset. Will this device show as a "Media device" Profile?
Thanks for your help guys. Let's figure this out together.

I don't see why that wouldn't work. But honestly...instead of spending $26 on an adapter...why not spend $75 more and put in a new head unit? It will make your stereo sound better, provide much more flexibility for different types of media, and its not all that expensive or hard to install.
Below is the screen shots from mine. I did get it working by deleting my phone out of the head unit and reconnecting.

Thanks dude, this is the exact confirmation I was looking for. I have some experience replacing head units from my Grand Cherokee, but it's a liiiiittle more complex in a BMW, haha. Classic car, stereo system is good enough not to tamper with it. That adaptor should work wonders for me. Thanks for your advice tho!
OP. When using Google music if you want to play via Bluetooth you have to press the "beam" icon on the top action bar.

My N4 pairs up but it has crappy sound quality for music and no meta-data for songs that usually show up on the head unit (Toyota Tacoma). My old Samsung Infuse with CM10 PA 4.1.2 streamed music with meta data flawlessly so I know it's possible!
My next step is to see if I can roll back my Nexus 4 to Android 4.1.2 until hopefully a newer version has less Bluetooth issues...
I haven't done a search yet, does anyone know if this is possible since it shipped with 4.2?

Note 3 Bluetooth Sound Quality

I'm loving my Galaxy Note 3, with the exception of the sound quality for bluetooth. The mid and lower frequencies are fine, but the high frequencies crackle, pop, and otherwise sound muddled. I've seen that this is a problem with other Android phones. Anyone encountered this? Anyone come up with a fix?
(Incidentally, my wife's GS4 does the same thing in both my car and her car.)

Same here for regular a2dp.
I've noticed that if I lower the phones Bluetooth output volume down a notch or 2 from max, it clears up the highs a bit compared to max output.
Still, I had to upgrade my devices to AptX compatible receivers to get crystal clear sound.

Might want to try installing Viper audio mod too, it gives you a lot of options for tuning sound quality.

Upgrading to AptX sounds like a good option. I drive a 2012 Toyota Sequoia; but I doubt there is really any way to upgrade the firmware. I'd probably be stuck with an aftermarket solution.
Had the same problem I noticed that when I uncheck phone audio I get perfect sound. The only thing you won't get to talk through bluetooth until a patch comes out.

Try unchecking the phone audio from bluetooth settings it work for me. The only problem is that I can't use bluetooth to talk untill a patch fixes the issue. I reported this issue to Samsung.
Running Beans which I think implemented Viper mod,..
Just picked up a Plantronics BackBeat Go, and I am pretty happy with the sound quality. I'm no audiophile by any means, but I'm pretty happy with the A2DP so far.
Hi Bombstyle,
I have a simular issue with my Phillips M1BT's The odd thing is that the interference (pop, crackles) seem to happen more when I'm walking around Brighton. When I'm working at my desk there is little if no interference.
Some further basic tests suggests that the interference increases when the screen is off and the phone is in my pocket, Not sure if there is some form of power-saving issue I'm not aware of. Or if there is generally a lot of potential interference within a busy city
I tried with Call Audio disabled as str077 suggested as well as WiFi disabled.......... so far no golden solution.
str077 - Any further information from Samsung about a patch for your issue?
Check this article out. Could help. I still need to test myself.

roku-like audiocast to phone / headphones

Hey all.
I found a rather dirty hack that seems to work better than Bluetooth audio for listening to private audio from the firetv.
Installing bubbleupnp works good on my phone for audio casting to xbmc, so I tried the same on the firetv in reverse.
I had the xposed installer already on the firetv for llama support, so all I needed was to install the bubbleupnp app and bubbleupnp module in xposed.
Experimenting, I played from xbmc to my bubbleupnp app on my phone and it worked. There was a little delay, but it was more constant than the delay that BT headphones have with the firetv. Adjusting the delay on the xbmc app, and I had my private audio. I hadn't tried with any of the other video apps on the firetv, but I'm thinking the delay will be there. At least I can use it for xbmc.
Just wanted to put that out there. Hopefully a better option for sending and listening to audio will come out soon.

so with what you did is, you basically had the audio stream of a video playing on your phone? I have already installed bubbleupnp on both my note 3 and the fire tv (xposed module on both devices too)but im clueless as to how to make this work. all i have managed is to cast audio(but only music and not video) from my phone to the fire tv, or initiate a video from the fire tv to start playing on my phone, making the fire tv a large remote and my phone the video player lol.
thing is I've never used bubbleupnp before so this whole casting thing is new to me. Maybe you are able to give more details as to what you did? what you set the renderer and library to on both your phone and the tv? Would gladly appreciate it as this is the last piece of the puzzle for me as to configuring the fire tv. would really like xbmc to play the video while my phone plays the audio!! thx!!
Exactly as you said it.
Set bubbleupnp to audiocast to my phone.
Listen on my phone.
Get frustrated because bubbleupnp won't ever change their design to be able to sync. Apparently, the delay is inevitable. Not sure why, as allshare seems to have it figured out.
I'm going to give up on this, as I've had no luck from this method. Will wait to see if a BT ad2p(?) Receiver Profile can be used with phones.

You know what im doing now? I play the movie using xbmc, but also start the movie playback on my phone using mx player. But mx player has the capability to only play the audio with the screen off, so thats what im doing now. Its easy enough to get the audio synced, and the batt drain isnt too bad, 16% for 130 minutes movie (DTS downmixing). a 40 minutes itunes web dl would consume about 4% if its on AC3, but i presume it would be very similar even if it was just AAC.
Until a more seamless method comes out, this is what im gonna be doing, as its easy enough, and no extra purchase required

I've played around like that in the past. It does put more load on your network and hard drives though. Tolerable but unfortunate.
I'm giving BT another try. Picked up a car mp3 3.5mm out unit from amazon for $8.50 or so that I'll be able to sync up easily enough. i can plug my own headphones up and plug it into the USB chargers at my bed. I'll see how that works. Hopefully this will be an option.
How nice would it have been if they just gave the headphone out thru remote capability like the roku 3....sigh
Do update on how well your new plan goes. Thanks!

Any update or progress on development of using bluetooth headphones without sync issues?
When you guys described the worsening audio offset which cannot be corrected because it keeps getting worse over time, how long does it take to see it noticeably worsened?
The reason i am asking is I finally was able to install Settings.apk and paired my bluetooth headphones (Noontec Zoro wireless BT headphones).
When I played a movie in XBMC, I didn't think the audio offset was that bad. Better yet, I didn't notice that it worsened over time. I watched it for over 20 minutes and didn't notice any change. I did a manual offset of .4 sec to compensate and it seemed fine after 20 minutes or so. Will I notice it after more time?
The only thing on my config that might be different than others is that in XBMC 13.1 Gotham stable release, is that I have Hardware acceleration enabled but I unchecked both Mediacodec and libstagefright (it is the only way that I can watch xvid without stutter and doesn't seem to affect mp4 h264 movies). Maybe someone else can try this?
Also, movies I played on Plex shows the same...small lag but somewhat tolerable and it didn't seem to get worse over time, but I only did this for about 5 minutes.

Have had pretty good luck with xbmc 13.2 beta rc1.
Am using this BT adapter but only have a few issues now. This syncs up to the fire TV and the audio stays in sync with xbmc.
As I stated in my review, the channels are reversed. Not a real big deal as I can switch my headphones manually to the other ear. After checking my son's BT headphones too, I'm beginning to think all the Chinese imports have their audio connections backwards.
As I watch the show tonight, I can say that the BT alternative is working pretty good. I've had it set forward about 0.2sec ahead and it was quite tolerable. Seems to be getting better. Maybe next update will fix it.
Anybody else had any better luck?

Its a simple little BT receiver that allows a 1/8” headphone jack or jumper to plug into your car aux. It has a battery which lasts three or so hours with headphones plugged in.
To sync, turn on the switch and search with your phone, firetv or whatever you have with BT audio. It automatically connects. Simple. Cheap.
I actually use a pair cheapo 2.4ghz headphones I got as a gift. None audio sync issues I had using a bluetooth transmitter. I just plug it into either the headphone port on the bedroom tv or on the av receiver when I watch in the living room when I can't sleep.

My bedroom TV has a headphone port the side and no av receiver. That tv is technically a computer monitor with hdmi and a tuner. So that may explain why it still has a headphone port. However, many larger TV's still have an audio out (line level, red and white RCA) that can be used with wireless headphones. There are also toslink to analog convertors or HDMI audio extractors that you can get for about $25. You could use one to achieve line level audio.
I have been researching TV's since the living room tv is old. My living room TV is ridiculous it is HD but it is a 50" plasma from 2004 and it was built before ASTC HD tuners were put in TV sets. The last owners left it because it was a pita to move, I can't imagine how much it would have cost in 2004.
The headphone I mentioned appears not to be a good choice in the line level audio output scenario.

Then I am not sure how this approach would be different than using bluetooth headphones other than you getting lucky with this particular unit compared to others. It is bascially a bluetooth headphone without the headphones.
It's great that it works for you though.

You're right. They are no different. What I did notice is the audio did not seem too out of sync if at all with the newer version of xbmc.
Of course, it could just be a coincidence with a movie that had it audio set out of sync already...I don't know. I may have been more tolerant of the prep work in order to get it to work, pause the video, adjust delay forward, unpause and verify.
The point for me was that it was easy. The BT receiver could have been a more expensive one or cheaper. I don't think it matters too much right now as the BT audio is just an unintended positive side effect.
Amazon may enable a better fix soon or someone may mod a custom image with support if the bootloader opens. Its possible. Either way, I'm happy with the amazon TV. There a bunch more options and capabilities available on this xbmc box than any of the others I've had.

Samsung Level Link Wireless BT Adapter

Does anyone use the Samsung Level Link Wireless Adapter?
http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones-accessories/EO-RG920BBEGUS
When connected to your Note 4 via jack lead and set to "Send", are you able to play/pause on your BT earbuds/headphones or play/pause, Rew/FF, Vol up/Down on the adapter?
I can't.
If I connect the adapter (Receive mode) to wired earbuds and connect via BT to the phone, I can use all the controls on the adapter. But, nothing on the wired earbuds.
Does anyone else have the same "problem" as me or do you have full controls on the adapter/earbuds in Send/Receive modes?
I'm more interested in using the adapter wired to the phone and in Send mode.
Thank you.
Any bods out there?
as far as I know these Bluetooth audio receivers/transmitters never support "external" microphones or controls.
and the link is no exception.
this makes sense because the layout and signals of 3.5mm headset connectors(4 "rings") varies between different brands/models.
3.5mm stereo connectors(3 "rings") are standardized, and can be easily exchanged between devices made in the last few decades.
samsung uses a headset connector on their wired headset because they make those only for their phones, but the level link is made for devices from all brands and therefore needs to be built for compatibility and consistency.
compare the plug on the wired headset included with your phone with the plugs on the headphone and connector cable included with the link, and you'll notice the headset has an extra ring.

compare the plug on the wired headset included with your phone with the plugs on the headphone and connector cable included with the link, and you'll notice the headset has an extra ring.

Thank you for replying and the information
I haven't noticed the number of rings before. Would it be worth buying a double ended 3.5mm jack cable with 3 rings at each end?
it's not worth it.
if they didn't bother with a 4th line in a tiny cable, they wouldn't bother adding a 4th contact in the link's port or the software to make use of that contact.

Awesome, thank you very much
the link is still a neat device.
I did a little test, and if you have a 2nd aptx capable headset you can almost completely cut out the delay caused by the transcoding.
I tested with a level link wired to my phone and later my 3DS and paired with my LG Tone infinim, and I was definitely getting the "30 ms or less" delay that's promised with aptx low latency.
using the level link with a headset like the tone infinim is really the best way to get wireless audio when playing games on a handheld device like a smartphone or 3DS.

Cool, thanks for the tip.
I'm just using it with my Note 4, Jaybird X2 and this molle style case https://www.amazon.co.uk/Urvoix-Case-Cover-Samsung-Galaxy/dp/B00S6DQ37W/
The case cuts out a lot of the BT signal (some days everything plays fine and others constant break ups). Either that, or the BT strength signal fro my Note 4 isn't that strong.
The Level Link cured the break ups, but I loose playback control.
perhaps a smartwatch could take care of the controls.
smartwatches are a lot less demanding with their signal strength.
I use a pebble time steel, but all pebbles are great for music controls.

I've been looking at smartwatches, but I either can't justify the cost for the usage I'd get from it or there's always a better one coming soon.
Ideally, I'd want a metal bracelet and Google Wear 2 compatible.
I'll look again, nearer to the release of Google Wear 2 and see what's available... or rumoured to be coming soon.
