Heya,
I decided to nuke my beloved OP2 and start anew, this time including encryption. As I read in the encryption Q&A, the device should not be rooted when doing the encryption, as this can cause havoc.
If you want, you can skip the Italic part. Lets just say, all went well until I rebooted into recovery after setting my encryption password.
- I wiped everything, installed Oxygen OS 3.0.1, flashed the TWRP recovery image (which was recommended in the "how to install oxy 3 on OP2" guide. So it should be a compatible version).
- I boot up my phone and go to the android security settings. I put my phone on the charger and let it encrypt my system with the on-board encryption function. Everything goes well, device reboots fine, now encrypted.
- I went to the security settings again to set my password. I check "ask this password before booting". Now that the encryption is dealt with, I want to have my device rooted. I boot up into TWRP and, as expected, TWRP asks for the password that I just configured.
BUT TWRP won't accept my password, telling me it was wrong. I tried several times, checked that I didn't mess it up because of a foreign language (english) keyboard. When I rebooted the device, it accepted my password on the first try, booting normally afterwards.
I went into the security settings and chose a pattern instead of a password, to make sure the keyboard wasn't the cause of the failure. When booting into TWRP, it asks about my pattern now. But it doesn't accept it.
So I went back into the security settings and unchecked the "ask pattern before boot" part, hoping that TWRP might not need the pattern anymore. When I boot into TWRP now, it asks for a password again, although I have enabled a pattern only.
I rooted my devices several times already, without any problems. This is the first time that I use encryption, so I have no Idea what could be the cause of this problem. It just seems that TWRP has problems decrypting the OxyOs. Please keep in mind that I used the TWRP image that was recommended for OxyOS 3.0.1 in the official Oneplus Forum install guide, so it should be compatible with all the Software and Hardware.
Now that I can't access anything with my TWRP, I haven't installed my SuperSU yet. I can't see how I can gain root access without using TWRP. If I rooted the device first and then encrypted it, the TWRP problem would not matter, but that's exactly the thing that causes HAVOC.
Looking forward to ideas
Fennec
Edit: My progress:
- tried adb sideload the supersu.zip over the stock recovery (update from usb). Protocol error. Installation failed.
- tried all kinds of TWRP versions, starting at the newest 3.0.2. TWRP 3.0.2 claims to have solved the encryption issue, but when flashed I get a bootloop whenever I try to enter the recovery.
- I realized that my adb sideload failed because I used an old version of adb which I found on my laptop. The newest version managed to sideload the supersu and the xposed framework, giving me root rights. TWRP still does not work but at least I got root now :/
same: TWRP can not decrypt system partition on One Plus One, CM-13 and TWRP 3.0.2-0
I remember TWRP said: installation was not successful although it can boot into recovery...
Try fastboot official twrp-3.0.2-2 for me is working fine.
Remember to boot in recovery after flash

Hi,
sorry if that question has been already answered, but I cannot find an clear answer
I need to encrypt my cell phone, however each time I try I get an error telling that the encryption
did not finished correctly, and my cell phone is corrupteur and need to Factory reset
Is there a 7.1.2 Rom that exists with encryption working ?
if not do you know if a 6.x Rom exist that's support encryption.
Many thanks for your help.
I finely found a way to have ZUK Z1 encrypted under 7.1.2.
Below steps used:
Factory restore using All in One tool
Flash TWRP Official 3.0.2
Using TWRP installation of a 6.0 ROM
After boot and setup, enter Preference/Security/Encrypt
At this point ZUK Z1 appears encrypted
The issues are that under TWRP unable to mount or see files
I flashed lineage and open_gapps using the “adb sideload” option.
After a reboot, ZUK Z1 appears as encrypted
For the time being all is working fine, except the fact that TWRP cannot mount the device, because it’s encrypted. I guess that’s an issue with TWRP itself. I don’t know if a version exists to fix this ….
I tried to do it same way with several 6.0 ROMs still available here (a lot of dead links...) but each try using device encryption ends with an
automatic reboot and back to welcome screen without encryption.
At the moment I am using TWRP 3.1.0 (comming fomr 3.0.2) with 7.1.2 Nuclear ROM.
Any ideas? Device Encryption is important for me.

The 6.0 ROM that's worked for me was " Temasek-20160217-NIGHTLY-ham "
Make sure you fully factor restore using the All In One tool
boot your phone on V5 and setup your cell phone account
Then using TWRP install V6 ROM with the Temasek one.
then Encrypt your phone .... that's should work ok
then us "adb sideload" to inject the V7 Lineage ROM
Let me know at which step you are stuck !
Hey, sorry for long delay ...
It will work up to "Temasek-20160217-NIGHTLY-ham", flashing AOSP 4.6 (Android 7) by sideload will cause "Password wrong" problems while booting
decrypting data partition. Still hope to get a way working zu install AOSP 5.1 (Android 8.1) with full encryption. Tried TWRP 3.02 and newer 3..2.1.
no worry about "password", I already installed nightly build of Lineage without issues using sideload.
Of course I got the message about password, I just ignore it
the only point is that I had to install TWRP V2.8.7 and not 3.x. because with 3.x sometimes I was not able
to boot recovery mode.
Before each install I fully backup my cell phone in case of .... SMS, Pictures etc...
Good luck,
The problem is not the password while starting to recovery 3.x.x, its the password while booting...
1. Factory restore using All in One tool (okay, works)
2. Setup Phone and encrypt (works, okay - Password will be accepted)
3. Flash TWRP (3.02 / 3.2.1.0) - tried both (okay, works - Password for encryption Recovery will not be accepted
4. I skip that and sideload flash (clearing cache etc.) "Temasek-20160217-NIGHTLY-ham.zip" (okay, Recovery = not, While Booting = Password accepted) (I choosed PIN and something like : OfferMe#1963ZU several times)
5. I skip Password in Recovery and sideload flash (clearing cache) "lineage-14.1-20180124-nightly-ham-signed.zip" (okay, Recovery still not, While Booting = Password NOT accepted)
Seems no matter if Lineage ROM 14.1 or higher...
Still confused
I am not using password at boot. I only set a password to unlock the phone after boot.
Hi all,
Since a couple of days I was able to unlock the bootloader on my Mi 9T Pro device. I managed to install TWRP recovery via fastboot and then the vendor, Lineage, other kernel, Magisk as zip via TWRP recovery.
It worked fine, until at one moment I rebooted and suddenly it started only the fastboot. No OS anymore, but also no recovery. Flashing TWRP again via fastboot worked, but recovery was not loading and it kept booting into fastmode.
I repaired it via the Xiaomi Flashtool, by flashing the Global rom again. System flashed, MIUI booted. After I could unlock bootloader again, flash recovery, and TWRP was also loading again.
Suddenly, I still don't know exactly why, it again started booting only to fastboot. Flashing the official ROM via the Xiaomi tool repaired the device again. Then I continued again with TWRP + vendor/LineageOS/Magisk/kernel. Works!
Now my device runs LineageOS 17.1, still has TWRP working, is rooted, has updated kernel and all seems fine. However I am scared that this strange "only booting to fastboot and needs complete wipe/reinstall by installing official Rom via Xiaomi tool" again. (It means, at any moment you will lose your whole device, setup, configuration, applications and data...)
Now I was wondering: can anyone explain me what is the rootcause for this "only booting to fastboot" bug?
Am I doing something wrong?
Is it perhaps caused by a kernel or magisk bug in the version I use?
Did I flash the wrong TWRP? (I tried official and some version for Mi 9T Pro found in this forums).
I don't see it yet, I hope someone knows what causes this issue. Then I know what to be careful for.
What causes this bug?
Thanks in advance!
***EDIT: Oops! I accidentally posted this in the Mi 9T forum instead of the Mi 9T Pro. Perhaps the issue and answer is the same, however perhaps a mod can move this to the Q&A subforum of the Mi 9T Pro? Sorry***
This usually happens if you wipe system and/or vendor partitions and then reboot (at least that's how I got this issue). For some reason if those are empty or invalid, the device gets stuck to fastboot and can't even boot to TWRP (neither directly or using fastboot boot).
To avoid that just never reboot (even reboot to recovery) right after wiping system/vendor, always make sure a ROM is installed first (or just don't wipe them since usually the ROMs take care of it before the install anyways).
Thank you!
Indeed, even TWRP did not load, exactly as you describe.
So that means for some reason the system or vendor partition got wiped or corrupted. Thanks, I will think why that might happened and where to be extra careful for.
Hi Guys,
i lately got on old Samsung Tab 9.7 with an official Android 7 Nougar running on it.
I decided to flash twrp_3.1.0-1_sm-t550_13317 with Odin3_v3.10.7. I followed the steps ashyx described in his thread. So far so good..
Afterwards I installed SR5-SuperSU-v2.82-SR5-20171001224502 from SDCard and it prompted to reboot... now there is the problem.. It won't reboot. It says "Check failed" and I have to factory reset it. When pressing the button it boots into twrp and I can only spot red lines until it reboots with kernel binary and I'm back at the same point.
Any ideas what to do?
btw. are there any new version of twrp , SuperSu or Magisk I can use? Couldn't find any newer versions. I also search for any ROM which has the most up-to-date status (if there are any xD)
Thanks guys
Not my type of tablet but when the SM-T585 had those issues it was a wrong version of TWRP, so maybe look into that.
And SuperSU, really? That's been dead for years, use Magisk instead. It has a whole subforum here on XDA.
/edit: I managed somehow to install latest twrp and lineageOS.. but on first boot it brings up an encryption error.
"encryption was interrupted and can't complete..."
I need to factory reset the tablet... but with that i run again into a bootloop. I can't wipe "data" via twrp Error 8 was it, i think at least ^^
/edit2: I'd go with magisk... but I only find the .apk .. what do I have to flash in twrp?
/edit3:
Managed to reinstall twrp with latest verion twrp-3.5.2_9-0-gt510wifi.img. wiped all data ... Installed Magisk-v23.0 afterwards lineage-18.1-20211108-UNOFFICIAL-gt510wifi . But again.. encryption error on Lineage boot.
Problem solved.
reverted to complete stock, afterwards flashed twrp, installed magisk + lineage 18.1 + OGapps 11.0.
Now it's running.
Hello everybody.
Twice I tried to install LineageOS 18 on my 6T, equipped with latest OxygenOS/Android 11 version, without any success despite having followed several tutorials on Youtube and on websites.
Two days ago I unlocked the bootloader, I restarted the phone from the PC in Fastboot mode and I tried to install the TWRP recovery, always getting an error and when it seemed that I had succeeded the phone restarted showing the message "Qualcomm Crashdump" and the phone was dead.
Fortunately, a Wipe Data from the Recovery allowed me to get the 6T working again.
Last night I tried again by installing the LineageOS recovery first, I restarted the phone and I realized that it was in bootloop.
At this point I could only restart it in Recovery or Fastboot mode, without being able to start the 6T correctly; not even a wipe data helped me.
At that point I used the MSM download Tool, with which I was able to reinstall OxygenOS v9.xx and restart the 6T, then updating it to OxygenOS 11.
The drawback now is that when I turn on the phone it takes over a minute to boot (the two dots around the OnePlus symbol make a good 37 laps, after which the phone starts up and works perfectly).
How can I fix this slow boot problem?
And why has it become so difficult to install a custom ROM on the 6T? It occurs to me that OnePlus has deliberately complicated things to hinder modding.

You can follow this. If you want to install lineage os and want Google service make sure follow the "non gapp version" under installation method.

Thanks for replies.
I must add this point: my 6T has OxygenOS v11.1.1.1; maybe this the reason of the problem? Maybe OnePlus did something that screws any modding attempt?
I simply followed the instructions found on YouTube, in the LineageOS' Fajita page and installed TWRP, but my 6T went in "Qualcomm Crashdump" and TWRP was not working → phone bricked.
Then I've tried installing, in the same way via ADB and Fastoot commands the Lineage Recovery, that has worked but when I tried to boot system, keeping OxygenOS, the phone went in bootloop.
So where is the error/fault?
Please, help me with a step-by-step tutorial that lead me to successfully install TWRP and LineageOS on my 6T.

OnePlus definitely didn't do anything to make it harder. You need to fastboot boot twrp.img then flash the twrp installer zip. I'll attach both In next post. Reboot to recovery. Then install OOS, twrp installer, reboot to recovery. Install oos again, twrp installer again, reboot to recovery. Now install lineage, twrp installer, reboot to recovery. Install lineage again, twrp installer again, reboot to recovery. Factory reset and wipe data by typing yes. Boot to system
The img is for fastboot boot
The zip is for installing in twrp
Thanks for your reply.
I'm still wondering how to speed up the boot.

There is clearly something wrong, as my 6T's boot is slow.
Furthermore, the Recovery of the previous message is the one I downloaded three days ago and that made me go to the 6T in Qualcomm Crashdump.
I repeat my request: where can I find a safe and updated guide that explains how to install LineageOS without risk?
If you can't fastboot boot into that twrp on a11 without crash dumping there is something really wrong

You sure you didn't try 3.6.0_9?
Clearing your cache might help with current boot. But once you install a new os everything will run smooth like it should
Thank you for the advice.
1) I've downloaded "twrp-3.6.0_9-0-fajita.img" and tried to install it several times, getting errors and then bricking my phone.
2) I have already cleared the cache several times from Recovery, without anything having changed; the two white dots on the boot screen continue to rotate 37 times around the red dot before the phone starts up and then works perfectly.
It occurred to me that the MSM Download Tool program uses a decrypted image of the original firmware; could this possibly be the cause of the long boot?

That twrp version always will crash dump on a11. Use the one I sent
I followed these steps:
after having managed to make MSM Download Tool detect the phone in EDL mode, I proceeded by reinstalling OOS v9.0.13, after which I reconfigured the phone and restored the apps backup stored in my Google account.
Later, I don't remember the details well, I received the update notification for OOS v10 and later for OOs v11.1.2.2.
I don't remember exactly where the boot started to stretch, however this is more or less the process I followed to bring my 6T back to life.

Or you could use USB OTG. Or a PC and use adb sideload
