How to Unroot S5 - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I recently rooted my Samsung Galaxy S5, and I thought it would be nice and all. And it was without a doubt nice. However, I want to revert back to how things were before the device was rooted. I've tried using Super SU's "Unroot" feature, Kingo's Unroot feature, and several others. However, when I go to software update in the settings, it still says that my device has unauthorised software changes and it will not update. I know that are no updates available for it right now. I only checked, hoping to have it say that I have the latest version installed to reassure me that the root is removed, but it still shows up. Anyone help? Please?

[Q] Firmware update, now what!?

Hi,
Recently I hooked up my S4 (originally from Germany) to the prog KIES, and a pop up occured telling me there was a firmware upgrade available.
After upgrading I all over sudden can't root my phone any more.
I tried to, but the security prog inside the S4 stopped it.
Q: Is there any chance I can get rid of my firmware upgrade, does anybody here has any experience with that?
Pls advice,
Ed

Go to http://sammobile.com and download the stock official Samsung 4.2.2
Jelllybean firmware for your phone and flash it using the ODIN utility
Once that's done your phone will be in the same unrooted condition as it was
when you purchased the phone.
Just make sure that you select the correct firmware/rom baseband/model for
your specific phone's model number before downloading from sammobile.
Good luck!
Sounds good Misterjunky!
I'll find the right 4.2.2 and try from there on.
Thanks and I'll keep you posted!
Ed
Hi Misterjunky,
According to different Samsung 'experts' it seems to be impossible to downgrade on your firmware.
To be sure I veriefied this in a quick chat with the boys from Samsung customer support, who confirmed this rumour.
CS also advised me to continue installing Knox, that is already planted on my S4.
According to the terms of conditions of Knox I won't be able to root it afterwards and in case it detects a rooted phone, it will lock down it's container (separate folder containing needfull data).
Do you have any experience with Knox and, if so, how is your opinion on that?
Best regards,
Ed

[Q] Curious?

i have the Verizon Note 3 on Android 4.4.4 Model Number SM-N900V with Baseband Version N900VVRUDNJ6 i took the update yesterday to 4.4.4 via the Verizon Software Utility App on my computer and was wondering if there is a verifiable and working method for a Root process for this? ive done some light research and have yet to come across anything that would help. Also awhile back i had done a towelroot and when i would restart my phone it would have a Unlocked lock icon with the word "custom" under the Galaxy Note 3 icon on the boot and now that i have taken the update it no longer has the Unlocked Lock with custom underneath it. Any suggestions on how to Root or Get Lollipop on this device? Not the familiar with all the rooting process and whatnot so anything helps!!!
There is no root method yet for 4.4.4 unfortunately

[Q] S5 Bought In China Help...

Hello
So firstly look at the image i attached....
Now i want to know if it is possible to root this phone and install CM12 or another custom rom or even an official lollipop rom that i will receive updates on ?
Thanks in advance
It looks to me like you have a Verizon S5, although the model number states otherwise and the DONGCHAO.617 build number seems custom. You do have a Verizon S5 though, so you can root on NCG, which you are running, through towelroot. However, ROMs like CM12 can't be installed without an unlocked bootloader, which is impossible currently on the VZ S5. You can get a Lollipop ROM with root by following these instructions.

What you're currently running is not official. The build number isn't official, anyway, so it won't get the lollipop update. The firmware that I'm telling you about can be updated, but I'm not 100% sure about the ROM.
Ok Thank you I will give it a try either today or tomorrow cheers for the info

AT&T S5 Active (870A) OF3 lollipop root method?

I've found root methods for previous versions of lollipop for the AT&T variant S5 Active but it seems to me that there may not be a method for the most up to date firmware. Has anyone successfully rooted the S5 Active on OF3 firmware? If so please enlighten me!
I've been searching for a few weeks now. While out of town, I found a tweet for srsroot that said OF3 IS now supported. However, I have not tried it yet.
The tweet went a little something like this: #SRSRoot: samsung SAMSUNG-SM-G870A (Build: LRX21T.G870AUCU2BOF3) #Android 5.0 Now Supported...
I hope it's real; I'm going to try it tonight. Good luck
Tell me how that goes, and send me a link to it after! Thanks clubfalco
I tried it out and it said the root was successful, but I still don't have root privileges. I'm going to try it again to make sure there isn't something I'm missing. If I can get it to work I'll send the link.
I tried srsroot as well to no avail. Tried two separate times and it said root successful, but after installing SuperSU and superuser (separately) no root... I'll keep trying I suppose. Happy with the phone regardless
I'm bookmarking this to keep abreast. I've been impatiently waiting for somebody to fix this problem. I love my AT&T S5 Active, but it is in need of warranty replacement. Nothing that hinders the phone function too much, but I want it fixed eventually. However if I send it in they will give me a Lollipop build (OF3). Mine currently runs 4.4.4. I don't care about 5.0. I just need my root. If I could get a KitKat replacement I would.
I can't send it in for replacement until somebody figures this out.
You could contact Samsung and see if there is any way for them to make sure you're sent a replacement without the latest update. Also, as you may already know, make sure you unroot and make it so you will be able to get the replacement. Warranties are typically voided with root... Good luck! I will keep this thread updated if I find a fix.
New to rooting - last phone was done successfully and golden - this new phone, not so much - any luck
I've been looking for a few weeks and haven't found a way to root my S5 Active. I'm running OF3 and nothing seems to work. KingRoot KingoRoot SRSRoot all the ones that come up with S5 and S5 active. Has anyone figured this out get? Using Odin to downgrade to AFE 5.0 gives a fused binary error for SW check so I'm stuck on 5.0 >
Is there still no method to root a S5 active on Android 5.0 at&t stuff drive me mad, I'm not on a contract just want the phone without junk on it.
Many thanks

How do I get my Samsung S7 Edge Ready for Samsung Trade-in?

Last year I followed the thread below to install a custom rom on my Verizon S7 Edge:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-s7-edge/development/rom-t3569416
I do not believe this was supposed to root the phone.
Yesterday, I found an original Verizon rom and flashed it on the S7 Edge using Odin. I am updating to 8.0 Oreo right now through the automatic updates on the phone.
I found the stock rom at the thread below:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-s7-edge/how-to/sm-g935v-stock-odin-firmware-t3581727
Can I check to make sure the phone will pass all software related trade-in criteria? I do not want to lose $275?
Thanks.
Just a note - before trading-in, and performing the factory reset, remove any Google accounts from the phone. Otherwise the phone won't be able to be reused due to Factory Reset Protection.

If you are worried about root still on the phone you can get a root checker app. Also, check download mode to make sure nothing is tripped in there or says custom.
