[No Root or Sideloading] Stream Kodi From Computer to Fire TV - Fire TV General

I love XBMC/Kodi, but I have always had small issues/bugs with the android version, not to mention I have all of my media on an internal drive in my computer, so getting it from my computer to my Fire TV is a hassle (making a server, using SQL, etc.) I've had to settle on Plex, which is great, but I just like the XBMC interface a lot more. Now I have come up with a pretty clever idea to solve my problems. What if I stream Kodi on my computer to my Fire TV? And it works perfectly. It's not for everyone, and you're going to need a decent enough computer to do this, but for me it is perfect.
REQUIREMENTS:
PC:Nvidia Graphics CardNvidia GeForce ExperienceKodi, any version should workFire TV:Moonlight
Open up GeForce Experience on your PC.
Go to the "Preferences" tab.
Click on "SHIELD."
Make sure "Allow this PC to stream to SHIELD devices" is checked.
Click the plus sign on the right hand side.
Navigate to where you have Kodi installed ("C:\Program Files (x86)\Kodi\Kodi.exe" or similar).

Now head over to your Fire TV, launch moonlight, connect to your PC. You will need to enter a PIN number that displays on your PC on your first launch.
Click on Kodi and boom you're in. It's fully navigable with the Xbox controller, and probably most other controllers you've got.

So you're essentially steaming what's on your computer screen, not the video file itself, yes? This could be useful for content only available on your computer or where there's no android app.

Yessir, nothing is transcoded, just streamed straight from your computer to TV. You could have your HTPC down in some corner of your basement, and stream it to the much more aesthetically pleasing Fire TV upstairs. Also you're very right you could also use this to stream something DRM-protected and not available on Android (read: iTunes) to your Fire TV as well!

Thats pretty cool! But I've never had any real problems with kodi on fire tv and been using 3 of them for nearly 2 years now. No issues with MySQL, all boxes sync up fine from the server running on a macbook. I mainly stream local from a pretty affordable 4 tb WDMyCloud. I guess if I owned a high end HTPC I might be more interested.

Or just use Plex? ?

Questions for the existing owners of the Tab (Slingplayer/output connections)

Hi guys,
I'm considering moving from the iPad to the Tab, but first I would like to get some extra info:
Any of you have the slingplayer app installed on the Tab? If so, how does it behave? Is the image quality good?
Also, have any of you connected the Tab to an external display? Again, if so, how good is the quality of the image on the external display?
Anyone know whats the max output resolution on external displays?
What kind of connections can we use? 3.5mm like the galaxy.s, HDMI dock?
Thanks in advance for the feedback.
Dont know about slingplayer. We dont have it here.
There is no official HDMI dock out at the moment, but there is a samsung cable ending in composite, which has a max resolution of 480i or 576i on most tvs.
The ad i saw suggested the cable was indeed sound-only. Google galaxy tab tv out.
It has. Look at the original line up.

I'm just wondering how the HDMI dock will work. If it's a mirror image from the screen, or if it will be only active for some apps (like the output connect on the iPad)
Well, it says on the side of the box that it is certified for FullHD 1080p video playback. As this is impossible on a 1024x600 screen, I'd have to assume that's through the HDMI dock. The Tab doesn't even break a sweat playing HD movies fullscreen on the internal screen, so I'm guessing there's plenty of processing ooomph to do it externally.
Slingplayer-app works perfectly. Absolute killer-app, 7" is the perfect size to watch TV. It is landscape only, though.

IS the playback smooth and with good resolution like if you use slingplayer on the computer?
Yes, no lag, totally comparable quality as with a laptop.

Does XBMC need a plugin loaded to do that?
Update:
Figured it out... was the UPnP service, Got it running right now on my Nexus 7 using a Raspberry Pi with XBMC hooked up to my 60" HDTV....
While it is limited (not quite mirroring), it is pretty close. I am playing some Youtube stuff on it now. I also played a ripped version of Avatar I had on the Tablet.

Huh? There is no USB cable involved.
This is a Wireless (over WiFi) connection from the Tablet to a device (or TV) that has a WiFi signal to accept the connection to then display it on the Screen.
There is no USB involved. I have it working right now.

In the above, the Raspberry Pi has XBMC running in it.
The limits are the application Shot Beam. It can...
o Display what Photos images you have on your Device
o Play music files you have ON your Device
o Display what Videos you have on your Device
o Use your device's Network to Display YouTube
o Use your device's Network to Display Reddit Videos
See screen shot of App
Screen shot of app playing video
What it doesn't do, is display anything on your device which some people call mirroring.
The app appears to work okay, though it does fail a lot while playing videos. I'm not sure if it is the app wacking out, or the WiFi signal but based on other things I've done, the WiFi doesn't appear to be the issue.

How to mirror your Android screen with nexus player?

I tried the cast function on the phone (Nexus 5) but somehow it can not find any device.
But using the Youtube app casting is working.
Can it work like the chromecast?

With my stock nexus 7 (KK 4.4.4) and wireless display enabled in display settings the screen mirroring works just fine. You have to be on the same wifi network as the nexus player of course then an option will show up in the right corner pull down menu to cast the screen to the player. If it still cant detect it then I am not sure what the problem is, you can try restarting both devices.
I can mirror my nvidia shield tablet on the nexus player with no problem. There is a sec delay but it works quite well, even the sound works. I'm running 5.0 on both devices.
I finally get it working with using the Nexus 5 as AP and let Nexus Player to connect the WIFI hotspot.
So far I can't figure this out, and I'm on the understanding that this can do everything the chromecast can. I use the screen mirror quite a bit!
Mirror, Mirror

Guys, I just want to share a tool app, that you need to enhance the mirror feature, that you are trying to establish with your Nexus TV Player.
Follow the link below and scroll down to two post with the above black Android icon on the folder photo, there you will find the tool app and instructions for mirroring and Google casting. Also check out the post with the above top photo, enjoy.

N7 casts from settings and notification menus. For my G2 I had to use the standard Play Store Chromecast app instead
I just got a Nexus Player today and when I tried casting my phone's screen to it, my phone kept saying "no devices found. I turned the Player off, then on, and then my phone found out right away. Just thought I'd mention what worked for me

Cannot Cast from phone to TV

I can CAST directly to my TV from apps, for example by tapping a photo in Google Photos, but I cannot cast the screen. It does not identify my TV as being available, though it does detect my PC. The TV is on the same WiFi network, and my phone must be able to communicate with it or I would not be able to cast successfully from apps.
In the Shade when I click the CAST BUTTON it does not respond in any way, eg. change colour, as other buttons do. Should it? However, I do get the notification which has the 'not found' report.

Hi, if you been able cast screen previously, and now it isn't work anymore, your problem probably will be in your network configuration. Firstly you should start with restarting -router and tv, unplug power cord, after cca 1 min reconnect -> test -> let us know..

It would be helpful to know what TV (Brand) or TV OS you point at. But it very much sounds like you are sharing via Chromecast (as you mention Google Photos works). But casting the Screen requires a Miracasts capable TV.... You can still cast the screen from within the Google Home App...

Advices about remote

I have FireStick 4K, and it works great.
I have this remote:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
And it works great, now i am interested in this remote:
But i am a couple of questions:
1. Will all buttons works great?
2. Can i change some buttons, for example netflix button to kodi or youtube
3. Can tv button just change imput to tv and that simply it?
If your 4k stick is on a recent firmware all the buttons will work.
Only buttons '1'+'2' can be reprogrammed. The channel buttons can't be officially reprogrammed. A couple can be reprogrammed unofficially.
The TV button takes you to the LiveTV app in FireOS.
Personally I don't think the cost of that remote is worth it. At this point it's more expensive that the 4k Stick itself.
If you root the 4k Stick and use the Exposed Edge app, you can can remap all the buttons on your current remote. Including double taps and long button presses, on screen shortcuts, recent apps.
But you won't get the remote finder, BT listening and backlit buttons, if that's what you are primarily after.
Thank you for your answer.
What is most annoying for me is when i want to chance imput from firestick to tv, i must get tv remote to press this, i wanted this on firestick remote. Thats most annoying from me.

If mainly want to change the HDMI / input port you should already be able to do that with your current remote.
Go through the FireOS settings / equipment control setup. This will teach the FireTV how to switch HDMI ports. Then you can press the Alexa/voice button and say 'switch to HDMI2' or 'switch to TV' etc
How to switch TV inputs with the Fire TV or Firestick remote
Among the discussions of the new Fire TV remote that was just released, several people said they wished that Amazon added an input button for changing their TV's input.

thank you but i dont want to say anything, i just want to type button.
