I have my data connection (3G, EDGE) ON 24 x 7 and I noticed that when I turned on Bluetooth on the device, it kills my data connection. The "U" or "G" icon disappear and the regular "Y" (antennae) icon is shown. All pending connection (i.e. file download) stopped.
This cause an issue with me because if I am downloading some data (I.e. Windows Live) and I need to connect to my Bluetooth headset, the download will fail because the data connection stopped.
Any one experienced this?
Anyone? Hello?
..........
i have always had this issue whether hermes or wizard.. i think its just a common thing.. i dont believe there is a fix, but i could be wrong

Try a hard reset. If you've installed a lot of stuff, use SBP Backup first. If that doesn't fix then return it.

I have tried that, believe me. I also have 2 Cingular 8525 with different S/N and both exhibit the same problem. I am trying to avoid or at least delay returning the device until I confirmed that this is a known issue that won't be fixed until the next firmware.
In any case, I posted the question hoping that someone can help me just by turning on BT WHILE they're connected. Simple.
Throwing back the same suggestion you have given, would you return your device at the slightest hang or issue without posting on the forum, this one or anywhere else?

Thanks for confirming that. That's 4 Hermes (2 of mine, 1 belonging to my friend and yours) with the same problem.
Hi All,
Since I got my DEFY I have WiFi problems. This issue only exists when WiFI has WPA/WPA2 PSK authorisation.
It is going like this: I connect over the wifi. Then connection works fine, I am able to browse www, check the emails etc, and after few seconds, minutes the connection stops working but still exist. I try to reconnect several times. Defy shows that is connected but nothing works fine. Internet apps or Market gives a message like the time is up, connection lost. I have to forget the conection in settings or reset device to get it working properly, but not for long.
And the thing is that there is only ONE ROM that works fine with WiFi on my DEFY. This is Cyanogenmod-7.1.0-RC1. Other ROMs have same issues. Doesn't mater if it is Cyanogen mod 7.1 stable or any MIUI or MS2Ginger. I tried almost all roms but nothing helped. So I had to go back to CM7.1.0-RC1.
Do you know what should I do to make WiFi working fine on other roms?
greetings,
Gregory
p.s.
Please, just don't tell me that I should change authorisation on WiFi router. This is not a solution for me, because I use WiFi in a lot different places.
Same problem
Hi,
I have the same problem with my Defy since a few months, no solutions!
I have the *EXACT* same issue. Was about to roll back to stock and send it in for repair, glad I found your post! I'll install the ROM you suggested and keep hoping this gets fixed
just fixed my wifi issue for the second time. If there are to many remembered networks no more wifi. You can turn it on but it cant find any. delete all remembered networks and back on line. that is the only conectivity problem I have ever had after months of cm7

I think that's a different problem than we're having. It is finding the network just fine (and connecting) in our case. It's just that internet connectivity refuses to work after a few minutes, forcing us to disconnect-reconnect to get it working again
@OP: Thanks a lot! The ROM you mentioned does indeed not have this problem. It's not as stable as some of the more recent roms though, think I'll still be forced to revert to stock
i had exactly that problem with my first defy, no solution man, i send it to warranty and they give me other
maybe changing the regulatory domain channels from 11 to 14 could help. this option is hidden by default, you have to enable it: change the value of 'ro.debuggable' from 0 to 1 in /system/bootmenu/config/default.prop, save and reboot. after that, the regulatory domain setting will be shown in settings/wireless/wifi/advanced. simply change it to 14 channels.

@OP: Apparently the issue still occurs on the version you mentioned as well...just happens less often.

Thank you for the suggestion! Just tried this, didn't resolve the issue sadly
I'm looking into rolling back to a stock Froyo rom but the information is scattered all over the place, I'm having a hard time figuring out if it's possible, and if so, how ;/
Anyone have any more ideas? ;/

OK, maybe I just passed the signpost but... do you still have the problem if you set your "select network" setting to 3G only?
I ask because (and it may be different on my phone as I am USA, stock ROM with wifi calling) if you go into the INFO menu > phone information > set preferred network type, mine toggles between three radio preferences: "GSM only" (when wifi is active), "GSM auto (prl)" and -- if I set for 3G Only, "WCDMA only".
I have noticed that when "select network" setting is at automatic (or 2G only) it often has trouble transitioning from cell to wifi. And, when wifi is an issue, I find that "GSM auto (prl)" has been selected (which on my USA phone prevents wifi connection). However, it seems to have no issue whatsoever transitioning from "WCDMA only" (3G only) to "GSM only", which on my phone then allows wifi connection. Again, this is a wifi calling phone so may be different.
Yep, same here BUT ! I get root browser, found my build.prop and change wifi chanells first time for 14 and it didnt help so i try other and my wifi works in 100% with 13 chanells. Try it
This is a widely know problem, many people are affected more or less. I'm also having nerve-blowing times with wifi sucking all over... Stock Froyo (and now Cyanogen 7.2) seems to be a bit more stable, sometimes everything is fine for a few hours, all downloads go lightning fast - and then suddenly things are screwed up. I tried a lot of MIUI releases as I like it most. MIUI seemed the most problematic so far. I don't know what is the cause, new stock Motorola Gingerbread ROM versions also have this issue (except one I think - look it up in the forum).
Agree, bothering with the router is not a solution. My Nokia E51, my EeePC, my girlfriend's Omnia and Lifebook - all work perfectly with all the four routers we use frequently. Not a single glitch - everything is stable and nice, except Defy.
I don't think is a hardware problem with certain devices, it seems more to do with the way Defy handles wireless connections.
Anyway, it's frustrating but CM7.2 and CEE Froyo gives a bit better experience than others.

No, problem still persists. Sometimes it works flawlessly for hours. Then... suddenly screwed :S In some cases a "switch wifi on/off" workout can help but not always.

Same. Thanks for your response.
I've rolled back to 2.2 and no Wifi issues so far. I'll just stay on this stock ROM.

Which Froyo version do you use? A few times this wifi-bug occured also under Froyo. I'm thinking about going back myself, as Froyo is the only acceptable release to record hiccups-free videos
I notice that a lot of users have problems with "death sleep of wifi" on the new ics rom.
So i remember that when Samsung Italia roll out an update to 2.3.6 (KK1) a lot of users experiencing same issue as ics or even worse.
Then samsung italia sudden release the xila firmware to resolve these issue.
The issue coming from the fact that several models of I9100 have the wifi chip from
Murata Manufactoring
So everyone that have this issue should go on http://hwaddress.com/ and paste his mac address found on Settings -> Info -> Status
I try but i have one from Samsung Electro Mechanics
Mine is from Murata and I am experiencing some problems with Wifi
The only solution is to wait for a new firmware?

The objective of this thread is to establish if the issue is hardware related.
For now is only +1 to Murata
Well I have a Murata chip but I do not experience Wifi issues.
I have Murata and didnt recognized any issues with Wifi?
What exactly is the issue about?
Well i'd like to know chip version of People that HAVE THE ISSUE.
Not those that have not it
In anycase issue is that wife toggle stay forever with connecting...and the only solution is restart.

Exactly what happens to me. It does not happen very often. I would say it happens once a week, but it is still annoying.
I suspect that it could be something related to when you enable or disable WiFi with the 3G connection enabled. The WiFi icon freezes and the only solution is to restart the phone.
Another thing is that I used to connect to my MacBook through WiFi using GingerBread without problems, but now with ICS the WiFi disconnects from time to time.
Mine is Samsung Electro Mechanics and have the wifi problem since upgrading to ICS. Basically, sometimes I will turn wifi off but when I turn it on again it won't do anything until I reboot and only then will it connect. I think this is the same issue being experinced by many. I think its just an ICS bug with SAmsung's releases. Hopefully future releases will fix it

So it is not a privilege of Murata's
So it seems not hardware related :banghead:

Are you guys having this problem all the time? Mine is random. I could go most the day turning wifi on and off and not have the problem and then all of a sudden it will not be able to turn on. I am on LP4 build
I had this issue while on ICS, now back to GB. I have Samsung Electro Mechanics btw...
The problem was random and sometimes I was able to get over it by turning WiFi Direct on and off for a few times.
Hey there, i have Murata, i had the issue.. untill i switched to the latest siyah kernel (later then 3.0.1) since then the issue is gone, give it a try!
i have the murata chip, i am using lps and i was forced to move the router to wap only, in security settings of the router, in order to connect to the wireless network
i have murata, and i had that problem when I installed the second beta of ICS
and so far, no serious problems with wifi, nothing that a change of modem does not solve
The only thing i did with the Hydrogenics ROM, i disabled the 'Network notification' in Advanced (wifi)

unfortunately the modem is not related at all to the wifi functionality...
Wifi is handled by the kernel (library) and the rom (Drivers)...
Hi guys,
I've been looking around this forum for solutions but i didn't find out something corresponding to my situation.
I'm using last Epinter CM10 Rom, and when I unlock my screen, Wifi doesn't work. Wifi icon is gray. Same thing happens often for datas.
Besides the issue is getting worse with time : it happens any time 1 or 2 weeks after I flashed a rom.
I thought it was related to kernel but i'm doubting of it.
One solution is to turn Wifi Off and then turn it on. But it doesn't work all the time.
I hope you will be able to help me.
And apologize if my english is bad.
do you gave correct IP address?

I do. Thing is sometimes wifi works. So IP adress must be corect. Besides this issue also happen with data.
By looking on other forum I saw this issue happens frequently on other phones running ICS/JB.

I've made a app "WiFi Connection Manager" with fix Wi-Fi problem feature. Available on Google play.
If your phone is rooted, an enhanced fix mode can fix most of the Wi-Fi problem.
Im having the same problem with my Lenovo p770. I stopped Lenovo's battery app and so far seems to be ok. Sigh, didnt expect such petty problems.
Turning off the battery app made no difference. Any solutions?
