You need to modify android.policy.jar
Don't know what is this or how to modify? Don't ask.

How i modify android.policy.jar and where i found this text reboot options in the file
android.policy.jar

@Madii Mahdy: When @RubbaBand tells you if you don't know what the file is or how to modify it not to ask, there's a reason for it. Editing a system file, even something as trivial as a .jar file, requires a specific knowledge set that you simply do not have. Without that knowledge, you will likely brick your phone, and that's no fun at all.
Now, if you want to learn, there are tutorials on the Internet that can help you, but I hope you will understand that what you're trying to do is advanced stuff that cannot simply be provided in an itemized list. I've personally edited .jar files for an old tablet of mine to enable network location service, but it was a major pain in the backside, and that was only a slightly more complicated edit than what you want to do.

'Push' Wallpaper Into Device

Hey guys,
I'm looking for the proper directory to push wallpapers into my device, so I won't have to load it off the SD Card. Especially interested to inject the default Desire wallpapers.
Thanks,
Evan
The wallpapers are usually part of an apk. Usually it is Launcher.apk
If you know how to edit the files within an apk, that is one way, if not, its pretty simple, just find the wallpaper you want. Find the one you want to replace. Rename the wanted wallpaper to the same as the wallpaper you will be replacing. Copy it over and do the same for the wallpaper_small.png file that corresponds. Then either adb push or use an adb GUI to get the launcher.apk back over to the phone.
This is in no way, a detailed description, just the jist of how to do things.
launcher2.apk if you're running Android 2.0 or higher.
But otherwise, above is correct.
Cheers guys,
Can I just keep adding files? Or do I have to rename files?

No, you can't just add... there are a pre-defined and finite number of "slots" - you can't include more than the application currently supports. Files need to be exactly the correct names.
Also, if the files are different sizes, or you change too many, you'll upset the digital signature on the launcher2.apk you'll need to resign the launcher2.apk file before pushing it back.
If that all sound too hard let me know...

That does sound a bit 'hard'. But nothing I can't tackle with a bit of reading.
So, how do re-sign the launcher2.apk file?

Let me know how you get on.
That doesn't sound overly complicated, but it's too much work for a single wallpaper from the HTC Desire. As of right now, it resides in the SDCard. And I do use HelixLauncher2. I wish there's a simpler way… let's say, like an app that can inject files directly into HelixLauncher2.
Thanks for your help, though!
Fair enough.
You may be interested in keeping an eye on Kang-o-rama, that uses HelixLauncher2 and I'll be adding some static wallpapers back in in version 0.6.
If you are interested, let me know which wallpaper you want and I'll put it in there for you...

The attached zip file has 2 exe files in it. Just unzip it and copy both files to your device. It's pretty obvious from the name what each of the files does, but you need to restart your device for the changes to take effect. (Please note - this will only turn off the default windows lockscreen. If you've got a different one installed this will not affect it.)
Basically, run lockscreen_disable and restart your device. You can run lockscreen_enable at a later date if you ever need to turn the lockscreen back on.
Hope it helps mate

You can either unzip the 2 files (both exe files) and copy them to your phone, or copy the zip file to the phone and unzip it there. Either way doesn't matter.
Once unzipped, you click the exe file of your choice and it runs, but you won't see anything change till you restart your phone.
I really threw them together quickly, which is why they're so basic, but they should do the trick though
Thanks John. I've been looking for ways to disable my Exchange email policy lockscreen.
Nothing I've seen and tried works so far.
Will your exe files work to disable/enable this Lockscreen?
Cheers

question about cht fix

first of all much thanks for all the awesome work.im a super nube,i didnt even anything like this forum existed until a couple of weeks ago.im trying to install the fix for changing the color of ALL the text in cookies home tab.the fix said to extract the manilla file to \windows(overwrite existing file) and restart sence.i get to the part where i have extracted the manila file but i dont know what to do next.i cant find a \windows option.i appreciate any input and sorry if my nubeness is causing me to miss something obvious.i have a new tmobile hd2.
use a file explorer to copy the file into the \Windows folder.
thanks for the input mastajest but i still cant figure it out.the extracted file is in my documents i long click it and my options are-send via bluetooth, cut, copy ,rename, delete, and send-i choose copy and it goes back to my documents.i back out of my documents and long click windows folder and i get the same options when i long click the extracted file.im not sure what to do next.

When you're looking in the folder you want it to end up in, hit the menu button in the bottom right, then "edit", then "paste"

joe, can you point me to the thread you're talking about? I'll go check it out and see if I can get you through the steps.
its in the 1st post of the cookies home tab thread you scroll down and there is a part that says known issues and its the fix correcting the text color issue(when you change the text color but not all the text color on the home screen changes to the color you want).i wish i knew how to post a link so you dont have to waste your time searching.im pretty new to all this but learning.i think if i knew the specific file in the windows folder that im suposed to replace with the fix file it would work but there is like a kabillion files in the folder.much thanks for all your help.

Ok, it's simpler than you think lol. That file (5DED22E8_manila) inside the zip you downloaded just needs to be copied to the windows folder...if you do that correctly, you should get a prompt asking if you want to overwrite an existing file, click yes, and then soft-reset.
awesome!that did it.it didnt work at first but that was because i renamed the file to something more recognizable.i deleted it and copy the original file without renaming it and it worked just like you said.thanks for all the help.

No problem, glad it worked!
I should (have) give you fair warning too...be very careful when tinkering with your manila files like this, they're the crucial elements of your Sense interface. I would strongly recommend you make a backup copy of every "manila_" file in your \windows directory, it could save you a hard reset someday if any of them get corrupted along the way

[Q] Help-a-newbie: installing apps...

Hello,
As mentioned in the subject I am trying to install an application without success, and need some help understanding how to carry out some of the necessary steps...
The app in question is the S5 accuweather application (with the transparency option for the widget), which I have downloaded from these forums (link below)... in the same post as the link to download, the following is stated:
Delete ChnUnifiedDaemon and CMAWeatherPhone2013 from System/app
Click to collapse
...this might as well be written in Chinese... I did give it a shot though, but didn't get very far - I found the relevant directory with the current weather app installed (i.e. in the system/app directory), but if I try to delete the app which is there it tells me I don't have the permission... ditto for copying in the downloaded app into that directory - I don't have the necessary write permission in the directory...
also, there is an option for activating Full Screen Settings... for this I have to do the change the following value:
SEC_FLOATING_FEATURE_SETTINGS_SUPPORT_FULL_SCREEN --> To TRUE
...where do I find this string, and how can I edit it??? do I need a specific app for it?
Thanks in advance for your help

I am rooted, and have flashed a custom ROM (imperium )... and thats about the limit of my capabilities. ...
You need to mount r/w. Any decent file browser can do that.

Mounting r/w gives you the permission to write or modify the system files.
You will have to enable the Root Explorer feature of ES.
Press the menu key to bring up the left panel and then scroll down. You should find the option "Root Explorer". It's off by default. Turn it on. It will ask you for root permission. Grant it and you should be good to go.
Now you should be able to delete and copy the specified files.
But you will have to set the right permission for the copied files.
To change the permission, long press on the apk, press "More" and select "Properties"
There should be a line called "Permission" and next to it something like "rw- r-- r--". This varies, depending on what you selected. "r" means read, "w" is write and some have "x" which means execute.
Those vary depending on the app.
Change the permission of the S5 weather app to the same as the other apps have on the /system/app folder. Most of them have "rwx r-x r-x". So that's probably what you want to change them to.
Then you have to reboot. If everything is set correctly you should have the app installed on your phone. Good luck
As for that string, I don't know where it is. Maybe ask in the thread.
Thanks Reaper.. that was just the answer I was looking for!
...can anyone help me find the string? or at least give me an idea as to where I should be looking and what app I can use to edit whatever file it is I will need to edit?

Missing setting.db G928T

Hello fellows XDA, after updating my G928T to marshmallow, I can't seem to find setting.db under sqlite or even searching the file doesn't come up in /data/data/com.android.providers.setting/databases. Does anyone know where I could find this file or what may happen to it? Thanks all!
Sent from my SM-G928T using XDA-Developers mobile app
I found some details here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/...e-settings-how-to-toggle-ringtone-vibration-i
from that page:
"move system settings from db to xml
/data/data/com.android.providers.settings/../settings.db --> /data/system/users/userid/settings_[system|global|secure].xml"
For me it was "/data/system/users/0/settings_system.xml" and I was able to use Root Browser to find and edit it. The file is very long and hard to navigate (i was just using root browsers editor which has no search function) but I was able to add hotspot toggle on my S5 by editing it, just like I used to with the old settings.db

I was able to find it, but after editing and given the right permission also restarted, the setting reset to default and the new changes didn't stick in the new file.

I mean the setting used to be stored in a .db file, but (because samsung changed it i guess) it is now stored in a .xml file. no need to rename anything, just edit the xml.
I was able to find it, but after editing and given the right permission also restarted, the setting reset to default and the new changes didn't stick in the new file.

If i recall correctly there are 2 entries pertaining to the toggles and one seems to overwrite the other on boot. Make sure to change both if anyone is still trying to do this. If that doesn't work then I don't know what I did to make it stick.

Could you pls tell me how did you manage to add mobbile data toggle using this method? I'm on Sprint N920P. Thanks in advance
