Moto X Play PC Issue on Marshmellow 6.0.1 - X Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Apologies if this is the wrong forum, just updated my Moto X play to marshmellow 6.0.1. When I plug the phone into my pc, I can see my phone as XT1562 but when I click on it, its empty. I have looked around on the internet and I have tried the solution whereby you go into apps, , click on the 3 dots (overflow apps) and locate external storage and clear data and cashe, then media storage and do the same again. Reboot your phone, then the files then that is supposed to fix the issue, it doesnt work for me, my phone is blank. Ive got an 32gb micro sd card in it too. Nothing shows up on my pc. How can I fix it? I had no problems on 5.1..1, its just since this update. Noticed one or two other issues like no email app, this I can live with. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance guys

I'm assuming your phone's Android version is the same (meaning, almost stock) as the X2. If so, try the following: after plugging your phone to your PC, unlock your phone and tap on the notification that says "Charging". It should give you the option to change to MTP or PTP.

HD Mini looses Storage Card during tomtom

Hello, since a few months, my Tomtom 7.916 crashes regularly. It has 3 appearences:
1) complete freeze, need to remove battery
2) distorted screen
3) crashing program: gives message that files from storage card cannot be read.
In case of 2) and 3), my HD mini seems not able to find the Storage Card anymore: both in settings and in explorer. After a soft reset, the card is back again. During sommer Holiday, I did not have any issue at all. The only thing I remember from that time is that at some stage, the storage card was known as storage card2, which was also quite annoying though, but that happened only once or twice: my issue now happens everytime I use Tomtom, sometimes once every hour, sometimes once every minute.
Any ideas are welcome.
i have faced the same issue i lost all my data and apps that was stored on my memory card , it happened after i was using the the phone while being plugged to the pc and i restated my phone cuz it was stuck (still plugged ) after i switched on back the phone to my surprise i cudnt read my installed apps it says either the app is removed or relocated but then when i went to the explorer file to take a look at my storage card i found it empty !!!!!! i lost all the data there
i have a 8 GB memory card so im guessing maybe the issue is from the card itself or that its from china!! i have no clue yet, up to now its working fine .
ok, I must say in my case, I never lost any data from the storage card. But indeed, it cold still be the cause of the problems. Are there any ways to reformat the SD card in order to obtain more reliabile performance? What did you do with it when you lost all the data?
Did another check:
when Tomtom is running, and I plug in the USB cable and choose the diskdrive option, I get exactly the same failure signature 1) 2) or 3) as listed above. So maybe, my HD mini sometimes "thinks" a data cable is connected iso just the charger. I know there has been an issue in the beginning with the HD mini not recognising when a charging cable was connected.
Any thought on this? Do I talk nonsense?
Try TTN7.917.9186_vga_black_cuckoo_NOBT instead of 916, had the same issues with 916 before!

Sorry, made a mistake in my first post: this 7.917.9186 is exactly the one I am already running.
Had the same issue with my storage card. Solved by reinstalling the same software again (7.916)
Does it only happen with tom tom? I haven't used tom tom today, but my SD card suddenly is gone ! This is the second time in a few months...and it really annoys me, it really looks like a bug in WM. Thankfully this time, after a reboot it works again....
I had similar effects also without Tomtom, but then the storage card became "storage card 2". And after a reboot it became "storage card" again. But with Tomtom I completely loose the card, and it comes back after reboot. So a bit different, but your case could have the same reason. I will try a reinstall.

Notifications reset after USB Mass Storage?

I could just have a defective unit but it seems to be after I use USB Mass Storage mode all my notifications reset to factory and the Atrix doesn't always rescan my card to pull the notifications to reset them. It's irksome and happens with Internal Storage and External Storage.....anyone else experiencing this?
I didn't notice any changes after using USB Mass Storage. I mounted my phone, copied some photos, and then dismounted. This is on a Linux system.
What sort of notifications changed for you?
All of them, I have custom notifications stored in a folder on my card called "Media" then in a subfolder called "Notifications" when I mount my phone in USB Mass Storage mode and eject the SD card, I notice that all my Notifications reset to "Unknown Ringtone" I just did a factory reset to see if that will resolve the issue, but I have to wait for all my applications to download. Should be interesting to see what happens.
Yea, on 3 separate Windows 7 Systems once I mount my Device in USB Mass Storage mode, the moment I go back to The Standard Motorola Portal (or even directly unplug the device) My notifications are reset to "Unknown Ringtone" in all the apps that I use. I did a factory reset last night so the only thing I am left with is the possibility that this phone may be defective if I'm the only one with this issue.
i'm having the same exact issue. Even after restarting my phone and reformatting my SD card my phone still doesn't recognize my SD card in the gallery or music, but if i use the files application it shows everything is still there

Not identical issue, but quite similar, it's as if once the Mass Storage is enabled the phone forgets 100% about the cards and any settings that were maintained on said cards. Clearly this is a bug that shouldn't have existed in a Product that is released and Moto needs to get on this to fix it.
I believe I have the same problem - The notification tones reset. Custom ringtones switch to just random mp3s(not ringtone mp3s) and the main ringer switches to the generic default. On mine I also notice that the default actions(which browser to use, what app to use with a specific file) are open after being connected via USB mass storage. I get prompted to select a default action every time after mass storage mode.
This is an issue on both my Captivate and Atrix. I just copy the files into the system's media folders and don't have an issue. It's not only with Motorola but Samsung as well. It may be an Android thing, not the manufacturer....

I believe laskint is correct, and I am having the same issue when the notifications or ringtones are stored on the SD card. I was thinking about placing all my tones in the system folder right before my Google search led me to your thread here at XDA, so... Without further adieu... I'm transferring my files now, and I'll report tomorrow if that fixes the issue. I'm two hours shy of being awake 24 hours. x_x

After root, computer not recognizing phone when plugged up to transfer files? Please

So after I rooted my phone, everything is ok with the expect bugs that have already been reported by others. One new bug is that my phone is not being recognized by my computer, and is not showing the the drop down notification bar on my phone to tap for more options. Anybody else having this problem or know a fix? Thanks

You need to enable developer options by tapping the build number under about device in settings about 10 times. Then under developer options scroll down to USB configuration and pick whatever you want the phone to do when plugged in.
I don't care what they say about you, you're freaking awesome! lol it worked thanks!
Problems after root SM-G935P
I was not sure where to post this.
I rooted my S7 edge. Everything went fine and I was able to use the phone for about a week. Then I got an error about Google play. I reset the phone and it got locked on the loading screen. I tried to connect to my computer but it would not recognize the phone. I tried another computer and a few different cables and I still could not get the phone to show up. I figured the only option was the factory reset which I did and the phone booted up fine. I am still not able to connect with the S7 edge. I have a couple other Samsung phones and I can connect with those. I'll list everything I've tried below.
different computer
at least 10 different cables ( I even purchased new ones)
re downloaded the drivers x2
usb debugging is unlocked
it is set to mtp. I also tried the other options with no luck.
As a side note, I thought you do not lose root on a factory reset but I tried a root checker and it said I was not rooted. just trying to add all I know to help figure it out.
I'd really like to just get root back. Thanks for any help or advice.

Nougat 7.0 Problem - Gallery

I updated to Nougat last night. Everything is working perfectly except for my gallery. None of my photos will show up, not even new ones. If i take one with the camera they show up for a few seconds then disappear. I have searched all morning and cannot find a fix for this. Has anyone else had this issue? I have tried wiping cache, deleting .nomedia files and re scanning, i have even tried a factory reset and still nothing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
The only time I have ever experienced something like that was when my SD card was failing. If you have an SD card in take the SD card out and see if that helps. I have heard that sometimes reformatting the SD card helps also. I seem to be having a different minor problem, my power button doesn't always wake up my phone. Sometimes when I push it you can hear the restart sound but the screen doesn't turn on, wait a little bit and it does. I have cleared the cache, and also reset the phone.. still seems to have that problem.

Try this....
It's from APK Mirror, @Venom0642 posted the link https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=71105438&postcount=263
Had the same issue a couple days ago. Still not resolved. Any luck with a fix? The suggestion above not working for me.
Thanks.

Problems with Adopted Storage (a.k.a Flex Storage)

Hello all,
I have a Moto Z Force Droid (XT1650-02). It's running on Android version 8.0.0, and build number OCLS27.76-69-6. It was acquired from Verizon. It is not rooted (sadly), and the bootloader is locked. It has 32GB of internal storage, however, I added an SDCard(64GB) to increase that storage space.
I'm having some problem(s) with my SDCard, or more so its usage as adopted storage. I've had the phone with the storage for quite a while and everything has been fine. However, 3-4 days ago was when the issues started. One night, my phone was acting really laggy. Which I just chalked up to tech being tech. I let it sit for a bit, tried rebooting it, etc. Well, as time progresses it seems to me that Facebook Messenger is what's slowing it down. So, I try uninstalling it. Of course, this isn't working and android just keeps giving me a helpful little notification that the app is uninstalling (for much longer than it *should* take). I figured I'd reboot into safe mode and try uninstalling it from there. The phone powers off and reboots fine. However, when I tried to unlock the screen, the entire phone froze and crashed after a minute or two. Once it reboots, it gets stuck in the bootloader (or, more specifically, where it says "DROID" and there are little shiny spots moving around the letters). So I used the power button to force the device off and try rebooting again. Again, boots up fine but it freezes at unlock and the cycle starts again.
Around 2 days ago I took it to a Verizon store. Originally I was just told I was going to have to factory reset (which I didn't want to because all the pictures I have and such would be lost. Apps are backed up by Google though). They told me to take out the SDCard, to help save what I could. Then, I got the bright idea to try booting without the card. This time the phone booted fine and unlocked like it should (the only problem now is that I had no internal storage and all the apps that were on the SDCard aren't loading since no SDCard).
When I leave the phone on and install the SDCard, I can browse the internal storage again. However, I can't see any of the files when I try transferring them to PC over USB. As well, after a while of using the phone, or even letting it idle, it will eventually crash and go back to the above botting and not-unlocking scenarios.
Based on how/when the problem started, and the logcats I've grabbed as the phone was crashing, I have reason to believe it has something to do with Facebook Messenger not being removed correctly. [Logcats in the comment below.]
Any help would be greatly appreciated. As well, please tell me if there's anything that needs clarification. (Sorry for the wall of text. I just don't know what else to do at the moment.)
