Nexus 6P shows up as "unauthorized" in ADB - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have tried multiple troubleshooting tips such as revoking permissions, rebooting the phone and computer and still it shows up as unauthorized. I was on MM and then entered the beta program thinking it would mess with some system files but still adb shows up as unauthorized and no dialog popup shows up on my phone to authorize it. Does anyone know a fix to this situation?

It means it's RSA locked - you need to boot the device and activate USB Debugging, then when prompted on the device, allow the RSA Fingerprint/Key.
Try again afterwards.

[Q] Cant access bootloader

Hi,
I ran into a problem with my Nexus 4, the plan was to unlock the bootloader using my mac and fastboot. (used this as information but didn't follow it step by step, youtube.com/watch?v=fHZJ2f6JLw0)
I turned off the phone and went into the bootloader with volume down + power button. From here i used "fastboot devices" to secure that i was able to communicate with the phone. My device showed up together with an error message saying "ERROR: could not get pipe properties nexus 4".
Before doing any more i wanted to understand what this message meant so I searched the web without any success. I booted up my android, turned on usb debugging and used "adb devices". This time only my devices showed up and no error messages. I used the "adb reboot boatloader" to access the bootloader once again.
I still had the same error message with "flashboot devices" as before.
From here i didn't do anything more, I may have disconnected the usb from the computer while the terminal window was open and the phone in bootloader but without running any command from fastboot.
So I didn't run "fastboot oem unlock" or anything else.
I turned off the phone and tried to access the bootloader one more time with the volume down + power button. It didn't respond to this any more and nothing happened, the device just stayed turn off.
I turned on the phone and tried to use adb to access the bootloader but now when running the "adb devices" it just responds "-bash: adb: command not found".
I have tried to restore the phone thru the android setting meny without any success. The phone is working fine without any problem except i cant access the bootloader or use adb.
So I desperately need help from you guys. :crying:
Have any of you heard of this problem before?
Regards Rasmus
I have to change my statement.
Actually I succeeded rooting and installing CWM recovery using a win7 computer together with Nexus4 toolkit.
The issue i have right now is that i can't start the device into bootloader using volume and power buttons.
To access bootloader i have to go thru the toolkit and this can be an issue in case i flash a bad rom or kernel and can access android usb debugging.
Is it possible to restore the bootloader?

Are you holding the down volume and pressing the power button?
What OS is the computer that you are using? If you have reset the device, make sure that USB debugging is checked again. I know it sounds dumb, but a lot of times it's the simplest things we forget. Once you factory reset your device, it resets everything.
If you are on Windows 7, make sure you are starting the command prompt from the same location your adb is installed. If you are on Ubuntu or another Linux distro, please let me know which one. This seems like it should be an easy fix for you, but a little more info is needed. Thanks!

[Q] Nexus 4 mid root status "Offline"

I was running through the root video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=g88PPZyvfDI) when I occurred an error at 16:40ish
it appears that I have unlocked my bootloader, then when it was beginning to root the device it installs a insecure boot rom, This appeared to go ok until I tried to enable debugging mode again.
so I enabled it and I got the message about the secure code and ticked the box and accepted that but I was unable to progress. I tried to switch the modes from PTP and MTP but still no success.
ive been running "adb devices" in a command prompt but I still cant get anything other than my serial code and "Offline". I tried installing several drivers but im unsuccessful with anything so far.
I had a HTC Desire Z before the nexus 4 and i rooted that ok but because that was a long time ago I redowloaded the android sdk and re-set up the environmental variables "path" but it hasnt changed anything as of yet...
does anyone have any suggestions as to what else I can try?
EDIT:
just got "device" to show up.. but my device was non responsive to the adb in fastboot? i received this error:
http://pastebin.com/JMvNpb7q
EDIT2:
maybe I dont have a insecure boot image... but the error above may be a reason?
Update your adb.exe tool its out of date that's way it says offline
From my BLACKED OUT N4
i solved the issue and it was a weird one but maybe it will help someone else in the future...
if you are pretty sure you have everything fine, try a different USB slot.
try not to use a USB slot from a USB card but instead directly on the motherboard.
for some reason my TOP USB allowed my device to be found in FASTBOOT
and my BOTTOM USB allowed my device to be found in USB DEBUGGING MODE
so all I had to do was time it right and quickly swap between the top and bottom USB devices in the "waiting" phases.
It was quite a struggle but I managed to get there in the end!
final question... what rom is now on my device? what is the rom that ends up on your device at the end? is it a stock rom or a insecure rom or something else?
Thanks again for everyone who helped =)

Manually allow ADB or bypass?

Hi so heres the problem. My phone got cracked and the touch does not work at all. I am trying to use screencast to control the phone from my computer which requires ADB. The problem is the phone was never used that way before. USB debugging is enabled and when I plug the phone in I get the pop asking to allow usb debugging and says RSA key fingerprint etc.
The problem is I cannot click Ok or always allow! Is there anyway to manually add my rsa key fingerprint (through recovery adb or something) so this popup will not come up and it will just allow it? Or somehow disable/bypass this?

Moto G4 seen by Windows but not by adb in fastboot mode

I'm trying to unlock the bootloader on my XT1622.
I can transfer files etc and backup when connected to PC and in Windows
I have installed the drivers and fastboot and adb and opened a cmd window in Admin mode in the directory where fastboot.exe and adb.exe are installed.
I have restarted the phone in fastboot mode (power up plus Vol Down) and connected by USB cable to my PC but when I type adb devices I get no information coming back.
Does anyone have any idea, please, where I may be going wrong?
Anyone able to help, please?
My post above is getting a number of views but sadly no replies.
Since posting I have tried different cables, different USB ports and even installed the drivers on my wife's laptop, but to the same effect - the device is seen in File Explorer but after booting into bootloader both fastboot devices and adb devices return blanks.
I think I'll just give up on the idea, which is a shame as accomplished it easily on my old Nexus tablet and on previous Moto G iterations.

adb mode doesn't work when you are in the bootloader. But fastboot should. Boot into your phone and go to settings/Developer options and make sure you have OEM unlocking and Android debugging both enabled. Then on your PC connect your cable and open a command window. type the command "adb devices" and see if your phone shows up now. If so you can then boot into the bootloader via the command "adb reboot bootloader" While in the bootloader type the command "fastboot devices" and see if your phone shows up. If so you are good to go.
Oh, and I am assuming you have a non-Amazon model?
Still no show
Thanks Palmyra. I have followed those instructions to the letter.
In Developer options both OEM unlocking and USB debugging are switched on.
When I connect to the PC and run adb devices in a CMD window it first responds that daemon has been successfully started then that the list of devices is attached but it then returns me to the command prompt.
I did then try 'adb reboot bootloader' but it returned 'error: device not found' - not unexpected given the first command result.
In File Explorer however under this PC it does list Moto G(4) and I am able to explore the phone contents there.
It is not an Amazon model.
I really am at a loss to understand why this is happening.

Have you installed Motorola Device Manager? I had your same issue until I had installed the Motorola drivers.
Still no joy

Thanks. Yes, I have installed Motorola Device Manager. In Windows Device Manager the MotoG4 shows under Portable Devices only when USB set to Charging or File Transfer and as an Android device with Motorola Device Manager when connected as PTP. The situation has persisted since updating to Nougat and 'adb devices' draws a blank no matter which USB connection mode I use.

Did an RSA key dialogue ever pop up when you plugged it into your PC?
If fastboot shows no devices when your phone is in fastboot mode (voldown+power hold), then something is seriously off. Have you tried multiple USB cables?
On your wife's PC did you make sure to install adb/fastboot and drivers: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2588979
And make sure to run the cmd shell as administrator/root? (right click cmd, click run as admin)
Will double check everything
Will double check all of those pointers over the weekend and report back. Thanks
Success at last
Went onto my wife's computer and deleted all that I could find relating to SDK and Motorola. Re-installed adb tools and the Motorola drivers and now adb devices return the details of the connected phone. Onto the next stage of unlocking the bootloader and then rooting. Thanks for the help.

Device not recognized in Bootloader

I know I am probably the millionth person to say this, but I can't for the life of me get my device recognized in ADB when it's in Bootloader.
What I have tried so far:
- Activated OEM Unlock, USB debugging and set my computer to always be allowed for usb debugging
- Manually installed latest google usb drivers through device manager
- started up adb in cmd, made sure the device was recognized, rebooted in bootloader to check device list again
- Same thing, but with the drivers from the Mi A1 Tool)
The results:
- in Bootloader: Not recognized in ADB, but windows device manager shows "Android Bootloader Interface" as properly installed with google's driver 11.0.0.0.
- booted up: Recognized in ADB as " d59.... device" and in device manager as "ADB Interface"
This is not my first android rooting experience, but I have never had such problems installing drivers before. Is there anything special about the MI A1 I don't know? Anything I am forgetting maybe? All other Threads I found weren't helpful.
Thank you in advance for just taking the time to read until this point Any pointers even just links will be much appreciated!
Did you type 'su' after opening ADB/command prompt?
No I did not. Will try it out at home, but isn't that just for superuser meaning root access? The command to list devices should be "adb devices" not matter what mode the device is in, no?
Thank you for the tip!
Use "fastboot devices" "fastboot oem unlock".
