Hi,
I have the phone pre-ordered andone of the reason i intended to change my Find7 is 10 bits video playback support from the SD820. In particular, i'm wondering about H.265 10 bits support.
Could anyone download this video sample to try and play the file attached in the default player or even better in MX Player to see if it is supported by the hardware decoder as it should be ?
Thank you !
I downloaded it, tried it with the stock player and it said it couldn't open the file but then *just* the music played......I tried it with VLC and it just went black. I don't have MX Player, but those two didn't work.

MX Player does it nicely , default player only play sound. (Error message can't play video)
P.S. MX is my personal favorite there's no other player better than MX

That's true, MX Player (even the free version) is the best player available for android !
EDIT : Altough, i see MX is using SW decoder here, it's probably smooth because of the lower bitrate (1500kbps). Does the video play when you switch to HW or HW+ (needed for higher bitrates)?

Ok, thanks. So ZTE didn't implement the HW decoder for 10 bits HEVC .
I'm going to go ask about it on the official forum see if they can put it in a future update . If not, let's hope we get the unlocked bootloader and a good custom rom !

Do you have a higher bitrates sample to tested?
HW decoder probably is not needed with MX?
I'm not a expert in the subject but who know lol

I'm pretty sure that at a higher bitrate, we'll get some lags and stutter in the video... Let me quickly encode a sample

Thanks ! I'm a bit surprised that there isn't any stutter by hey, that's a good thing !
I just tried watching Civil War HEVC on A7 and it's not watchable during the action scenes on VLC and MX player so far. My $50 android TV box has no issue with the file.
I thought 820 has HEVC HW decode.
I just pulled this from the decode section in media_codec.xml from system/etc
It does have hevc decode.....
<MediaCodec name="OMX.qcom.video.decoder.hevc" type="video/hevc" >
<Quirk name="requires-allocate-on-input-ports" />
<Quirk name="requires-allocate-on-output-ports" />
<Limit name="size" min="64x64" max="4096x2160" />
<Limit name="alignment" value="2x2" />
<Limit name="block-size" value="16x16" />
<Limit name="blocks-per-second" min="1" max="1958400" />
<Limit name="bitrate" range="1-100000000" />
<Limit name="frame-rate" range="1-240" />
<Feature name="adaptive-playback" />
<Limit name="concurrent-instances" max="16" />
</MediaCodec>

Did you choose hw decoder in mx player ? H.265 is definitely supported.
But unfortunately, it seems that 10 bits support isn't activated out of the box even tough it is available with the sd820.
with the latest updates on this phone has anyone tried to playback hevc main 10 files to see if zte enable hw decode support?

I am running the latest HyperDroid-CM7. Which video players (are there any) support hardware decode? If there are any, which codecs are supported for hardware decode?
I've been encoding in H.264 via Handbrake but I'm getting lots of stuttering in the players I've tried. If I need to try a different format, I just need to know which one(s).
Stock video player, RockPlayer, MoboPlayer etc.
Practically any player can play in HW mode. Just make sure to enable Hardware Decoder in settings
I am using MoboPlayer and there is an option in settings called "Default Using Soft Decoding". It was _not_ checked. I checked it an now I'm getting much smoother playback.
Did I just _enable_ software decode? If so, why is it playing better?
I think I'm not understanding something here.
As far as I know, HD2 doesn't have hw support for H.264 but for H.263. So when converting your movies in Handbrake, use H.263 as output.
I swapped ROMs to NexusHD2-Gingerbread and now MoboPlayer is working much better than it did under HyperDroid. I think it might have been a HyperDroid issue.
Try diceplayer.
Mobo/Rock/VPlayer can't play MKV(+DTS) in hw decoder mode.
diceplayer can play MKV/M2TS/AVI using hw decoder.

For anyone else interested in this:
diceplayer is indeed good, play flawless video with hardware decoding
I have tried the default video player but it cannot play .mkv movies with DTS sound track.
I can see the video part of the movie but so sound can be heard.
Is there a solution to this or do I have to convert my .mkv movies?
Edit: Actually DicePlayer and MX Player can play .mkv movies with DTS sound track.

Shouldn't this be in the Q&A section?
use mx video player , it worked perfect when I played 1080p mkv /w dts video.
Dice Player does this too (and is a better player for the Tab 7.7 overall with better hardware decoding, not much in it though so pick whichever).

Just wondering what makes you think dice has better hardware decoding. I have not tried Dice yet but i have not run into a single problem with mx video player

On my Note and Galaxy Nexus some files don't play smoothly with mx player (they are very watchable, just not perfect like with Dice Player).
Glad to see you here NZ... Haven't try the video part thoroughly... Anyway, MX is still good for me as of now... Thanks for the input about Dice...
You can also try BSPlayer.
I found this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1vDN-RilC1k
It can also play my AVCHD camera files. (.mts)
One BIG problem is that the player can't play from my ntfs formatted sdxc card.
(Dice+ Mx works)
I have all three installed, but I usually use Dice.
I am having mixed results on my 7.7 - vids with DTS stored on the SD card play nicely when using MX player when the audio stream is set to SW.
However, when the same videos are accessed over the network they are choppy if they play at all. Anyone else experiencing this? I've done some network analysis and the wifi isn't being maxed out or anything.
Maybe I'll start a new thread on this.

@sladey,
There is another thread "wifi connections" that documents some slow streaming prob.
I had to experiment with wifi-g to wifi-n (both 2.4 & 5.0 ghz) to get a steady stream.
No fixed answer at moment as all above settings still hv some intermittent stutter.
Try wifi-g and slowly move up speed.
Cheers

What version Exactly?
MX Video Player v1.6f. You'll have to google for the apk as it's an old version that supported DTS software decoding prior to it being pulled.
yeah I tried them and they aren't supported on jellybean so I got diceplayer and used the special codec file and I can playback my 15GB .mkv's with DTS with no problem even running the cpu at 300mhz on my note 2 it plays back flawlessly on my 64gb ntfs microsd card. So it's DicePlayer that does it for JellyBean.
I appreciate your help though.
Hi,
anyone else having trouble with mkv files with AC3 audio?
Tried MX player, BSplayer and vlc.
MX player has no sound and smoth in HW and sound in SW (audio only) but really choppy.
BSplayer won't play in hw at all and vlc has horrible quality (artifacts).
Is that working for anyone or is that a general problem? (codec?)
Anything that i can try?
thanks
Try sending the MX Player dev a message mentioning the problem, it's likely something to do with the cutting edge hardware in there not being 100% supported just yet. MX Player is a great app, and I'm sure the N10 will be supported in no time at all.

I am using MX for MKV with AC3 - in the Decoder tab in settings, set the decoder to HW+ and in the Software decoder section, tick the box 'S/W audio' to force software decoding for Audio - then you should get smooth HW accelerated video playback with soft-decoded audio.
I also use MX with EZ Usenet to stream these types of files directly from Easynews, and it works perfectly with HW+ setting, software for audio
tried using a vlc nightly? What version did you use?
VLC: used the armv7-android-neon nightly from 2 or 3 days ago
MX: with hw+ its stutters even worse than with hw when i have software audio
i stream directly from files on my computer, can that be the cause?
VLC works intermittently for me and MX Player works pretty good, the only issue I've had is what seems like missing frames or slow playing video but then the audio is ok. To me VLC seems smoother but it's very tempremental.

is that a general assessment or specifically to AC3?

Remove AC3, MLP audio codec
Changelog for MX player says the following:
1.7.33
Remove AC3, MLP audio codec due to license issue.
Added RTL subtitle disposition option under Settings > Subtitle for Android 4.2 and later.
Added http user-agent overriding option under Settings > General.

No problem use a custom code:
"Custom Codec v1.7.32 is fully compatible with MXPlayer 1.7.33
As Usual supports all codecs incl DTS & DOLBY (AC3)
(Old Custom Codecs are not compatible with the latest MXPlayer v1.7.33...!!)"
P.S. the version of MX Player that has AC3 support removed is v1.7.33 so you need to at least refresh the codec you have installed or install the latest ones.
Here is the post with all the various devices compatible custom codecs and installation instructions. I just did a successful before and after test. After installing this AC3 audio is a non-issue.
Too bad both the owners of DTS and AC3 need to such dicks about their decoding software. I have no issue when they charge for encoding.

Hi
is the phone capable of hardware decoding h265 videos?
please try http://www.libde265.org/hevc-bitstreams/bbb-1920x1080-cfg06.mkv ( dowload it first)
with mxplayer in hw or hw+ mode ( not sw mode)
does it stutter ?
you can also try http://www.libde265.org/hevc-bitstreams/bbb-3840x2160-cfg02.mkv , but it is a 4k maybe too heavy for the phone
thanks
I'm unable to play the first file with either mx player or bsplayer.
HW mode black screen, HW+ extreme lag. SW similar (maybe 0.1x speed).
Thanks
It is Strange.. look at this http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=2mETT1RlX38

We probably need to download that codec in the description and point MX player to use it.
The first video works in VLC - better than on my Core 2 Windows even - but still get slow down in many scenes.
H265 hardware support will be hit or miss for a while, and sadly may never catch on due to the patent holders starting licencing shenanigans. See the article in the link

Please ,
import this codec to mx player and try.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/mx-player/mx-player-custom-codec-dts-support-t2156254

Hi,
I have a OP5 (5.1.7) and when I play a .mkv video HEVC/10bit using HW+ with MX Player the audio works fine but the video keeps black all the time, just works with software decoding.
OP5 does not support HEVC/10bit decoding?

Yes, I installed the codec for MX Player, but didn't work.
And I tried others players like VLC, KM, BS, Kodi.....
but didn't work too.
Writing this for all the people finding this thread in Google
I got 10bit 4K H265 working on my Oneplus 5 in Kodi (no stutters) by doing this:
(I'm using the Estouchy skin, you can swap to it in settings > interface)
Go to settings > player
Click on the settings cog in the bottom right
Click on the Standard option until it says expert
Scroll down to the processing section (this is in the videos tab btw)
Turn off "Allow hardware acceleration - MediaCodec (surface) and keep the other hardware acceleration one on.
Enjoy your 10bit content!
