Phone is not recognized by the pc when connecting USB - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i have a problem with my galaxy S4 i9500
for a long time now when ever i connect the phone to the pc, it just charges the phone and doesnt detect the sd of the phone so i cant transfer stuff from pc to the phone
in my previous rom (5.0) i could dial up *#0808* and an option popped up to change it to MTP and it would work.
but i changed my rom 2 days ago(to a 6.0) and i cant evel dial up that number anymore.
i downloaded drivers, keis, everything and still it only charges my phone.
what can i do to fix it ?

You tried different USB cables and USB ports?

im using the same cable as i used before i changed the rom, and it worked fine before
so i dont think its a cable/port problem

I find some versions of the s4 to be very picky about cables. Even the wrong kernel or rom can cause problems with charging.

so is there any way i could fix this ?

I would try other USB cables and ports first. It's also possible that the USB port is damaged.

already tried that, and as i said before, this cable worked just fine before i switched a rom (with the dial *#0808* thing)

help please

I use optimised cm13 and using the same cable/drivers that worked on stock 5.01 i cant get it to work after many hours of switching to MTP in the USB pulldown or Developer Settings, reg edits and every other crazy theory out there
I gave up and use a Wifi FTP app
Your other choice, and what i sometimes use if im not around wifi, is booting to recovery and using the cable, i can access the internal and external sdcard via TWRP just fine...
CM13 seems to be the issue
Changing cables etc is malarkey

I find transferring files via cables burdensome. Perhaps try installing ShareViaHTTP or an FTP client (lots of free ones on F-droid) to transfer files.
If you've tried multiple cables and ports, maybe revert to the old ROM version, or report the issue to the devs and wait for an update.

Wifi and Bluetooth Dont Work

I picked up a Galaxy S4 Gt-i9505 from a friend to fix but I can not solve the problem. The problem is in Wifi and Bluetooth that stopped working .... I tried applying various custom ROMs and still did not work ... I've tried with Stock ROM with Odin and still did not work. Really do not know what to do, you're missing me swap the motherboard S4 now. But dont want to spend that much money. Some may say if there is any solution to solve this problem of Wifi and Bluetooh without replacing the motherboard
I think that there has to be a hardware problem when you've flashed that many ROM's and always went to factory reset.
I'd give it in for service (after having stock rom on it)

Hi mate ,
Not sure about the bluetooth but did you check this :
Open the built.prop
search for ro.securestorage.support
If it says true , change to false
Save and reboot
or
Turn off Wi-Fi power save mode on your S4
Type *#0011# on the phone dialer, then Menu Wi-Fi and turn Wi-Fi power save mode to Off.
In I9500 we had a similar problem and the only solution was to flash the param.bin file. BT did not work and WIFI direct did not work ( my case) after flashing it my problem was solve....

hi
Did you also re configure ( pair) the bt devices?
if so you could
Check the hardware ( antenna ) maybe is a connection lose or is defective
Or you could try to reflash (odin) stock rom again and see if it helps ...backup first included the efs
how i check hardware antena connection..???

extract the NON-HLOS.bin file from the ROM and use Odin to flash it separately by placing it in Phone or CP(newer version of Odin)
Untick auto reboot before flashing
wait for it to finish, then unplug your device and reboot manually.
that should work for you

[Q] Stuck. No signal and no access to phone on PC

Hi there. I have an issue. Rooted and upgraded the phone to lollypop. Before I put lolly pop on I had an issue getting to the internal and external sd on a pc. I have tried various pcs and none of them allow me to connect even though I've put the latest drivers on my pc's . So I believe the issue is with the phone. Since then I downloaded a lollypop running rom and installed that using twrp. Now I've found my signal is problematic. I have no 3g or call signal. I don't know what I can do now to get signal and I can't link the phone to a computer to install a new modem as I can't put md5/tar files in twrp to flash on the phone. Little lost as what I could do. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Can't switch on WiFi

Hi guys!
I had problems with my wifi and I found a solution online saying that I should delete these three folders:
/data/misc/wifi
/data/misc/dhcp
/etc/wifi
I done that and now the phone's WiFi cannot be switched on anymore (WiFi switch stays gray and cannot be turned on).
Is there anything I can do other than a factory reset or flashing phone?
Can anyone zip up those 3 folders and post them here?
Thanks !
Phone info:
Model: Note 4 N910C
Android version: 5.1.1
Phone is rooted.
Can someone please post these folders?

Do you have any custom recovery (CWM,TWRP,etc) ?
Don`t you have any backup (Nandroid) ?
If so , then restore the back up through the recovery.
If , not , then I think you`ve to flash stock firmware through Odin (at your own risk).
I have the same problem but i didnt deleted any folder. Just stopped working and i cant switch on wifi. Weird is that today when i was browsing google play from 4g data plan the window with wireless networks appeared and i was able to connect a wireless network. After 10 second was off again and the switch button is grey again. I am on stock 6.0.1 and not rooted. I think is a hardware problem probably the wifi+bt chip has some unsoldered pad to motherboard.

I don't think it is hardware problem. Restart and fully charge your phone and try to turn on wifi. Maybe you have some application (battery saver and similar) that prevent you to turn on wifi.

I'd take it into a Samsung Service Center and let them have a look at it. As there is obviously nothing you can do to repair the problem yourself.

I will try to repair it tonight by myself because i dont have guarantee anymore. I will post here the result maybe we can repair this error.
i tried last night . I heated the wifi chip until i was able to move it slowly and the let it cool. Surprise after reasembly wifi was working ok all night and today at work i saw the same problem .
I think we must change the wifi chip but i cannot find it to buy... Any help ? Anyone knows an app or something similar to see if the chip is detected by motherboard? I think it must be detected if the mac adress of the wifi board is displayed...

[HELP] Network signal is not working, Sprint SHG-720

Installed this http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-sprint/development/rom-team-octos-oct-l-t3031836 exactly this: OCT-M-R3-6.0.1-20161026-jfltespr.zip had no problem to install but when the phone started network signal not working I was trying with others sim cards and the same, network not working.... too tried install another ROM and restore backup... but problem still there... and the next problem is, pc not recognized usb. i cant connect the phone with odin to install stock rom... installed the last version of Kies, the phone just start to charge battery...
(Im not using sprint, Im using Movistar from central america.)
I'm pretty new to this phone, so I doubt I'll be able to help much. You've definitely got the Samsung USB drivers installed?
They're found here. http://developer.samsung.com/technical-doc/view.do?v=T000000117 Uninstalling and then re-installing could possibly help, if you've already got them. I've never used KIES, so I'm no help there. Have you tried switching between all available USB ports on your computer, when trying to get Odin to connect?
I've also been having some weird, serious data connectivity issues the past few days, but they only seem to effect Lollipop and Marshmallow ROMs. I'd get my normal signal bars displaying, but with an exclamation mark just past the end of the bars, and no 3G/LTE icon visible. Oddly enough, KitKat ROMs have been working fine for me. It might be worth trying CM11 or SlimKat, just for kicks. From my understanding, APNs only effect data connections, but won't alter your ability to make/receive calls, so that seems unlikely to be your issue.

Assuming you can get the firmware files onto your phone, you may want to consider something like FlashFire https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.flash
It seems to be basically what Mobile ODIN has morphed into. If all else fails, it may be worth a try.

Wi-Fi is using similar memory controller as SD card. I had an issue where my SD got corrupted and Wi-Fi did not turn on because of it aswell. So try removing/replugging the SD card (and restart afterwards).
Ty for your answer blefish, i try what u do and try with another SD card, and i put my SD to another device. and i can´t turn on wifi, but my friend phone´s works well.
UPDATE: i made a downgrade to 2.2.2 froyo and WiFi Works Well.. any hint to upgrade my phone? whitout lose WiFi?¡
]when you're on ICS do you have an IMEI number? If not your phone is screwed on any ROM higher than GingerBread. Mine is the same. It just cycles through the connecting cycle on and off. I've even tried forcing an IMEI number through a program but it didn't change anything.
EDIT: nevermind finally after hours and hours of trying to revive this phone I got my IMEI back and wifi working. Damn it took ages to figure out.
Flashed to Official Gingerbread, then done the steps of retoring my IMEI number which is listed behind my battery. I used DFS tools for this and a post that tells you how to access the project setting menu to enable the settings. Then I wrote my IMEI number back on my phone, then rooted it and installed a custom recovery. Then from there installed Aurora ICS and used another post here to write my Mac address found behind my battery using Terminal Emulator. And bam! my wifi isnt stuck in a loop trying to connect anymore.
I got an IMEI number but the wifi dosent work, do I need to simply use TWRP to get official? then go back?
