I just find that the ringer is often not loud enough for me. Maybe it's my ripe old age of 32 that has brought me to this point of degraded ability but if I leave my phone downstairs or vice versa, I usually won't hear it ring. Worse is the one time sound notification, that's rather short in my opinion, for SMS's. Both of these are even worse if I forgot to remove my phone from the protective sleeve.
I searched and only found people having issue with the volume in relation to calls but no mention if I could increase ringer volume above what is currently selectable. Is there any way to increase this volume and/or extend the ring time for the text notifications?
http://www.wirelessinfo.com/content/T-Mobile-G1-Cell-Phone-Review/MakingReceiving-Calls.htm
According to that website, they tested the G1 ringer volume and found it to have the lowest dB of all the phones they tested.
Is it that speaker is underpowered? Is it possible that we may be able to re-encode the ring tones with a higher volume to help compensate?
I don't think it has a low volume... I think it has to do with what you are using because it is just as loud as my Wing when playing music.
What I'm using? As in which ring tone? I've tested several different ones and they all seemed the same to me. Do you have any suggestions?
I have the same problem frequently, it isnt that you dont hear the rings or notifications, they actually dont play at all. I have had this happen with my phone on in front of mewith a great signal, and I call it from another line. It "rings"(but never does), finally ending in a voicemail. When I hang up and check the G1 it shows a missed call and voicemail.
Unfortunately there is no fix, just a reminder that you bought a phone that shouldnt be expected to work until the system is given time to mature. Until then, you either return the phone, sell it, or live with its limitations. (or so I have been told)
No, I have that happen too, but I do frequently have it ring just not loud enough for me to hear it. I know because my girlfriend often has to tell me when it's ringing if I've left it in another part of the house.
I have also noticed that the ring volume isnt great with the standard wring tones. Using mp3 ringtones is better.
Notifications do sometimes seem buggy. I have had no notifactions with messages when i have had the message application open. Not even vibrate.
I have missed calls installed now for notifications and it seems to not happen anymore.
Theres also a program out in the market that allows you to create your own ringtones from full songs. You could just cut a song into a small section and use that for messaging.
Its called ringdroid

The down-side to this feature of the program is, the notification light will stop. If you check your missed calls, texts, so on from the bar on top.
You have to actually open the "programs" manually to keep the notification light working.
Ex. if you get a missed call, instead of pulling down the notification bar to check. Press the call button once.
if you get a text, open the messeging inbox using the messeging button or SMSChomp button.
Try to limit how often you have to pull the notification bar down.
Pulling the notification bar DISABLES ALL notifications of all kind.
Hi,
I just got my jade about a month ago. Im very happy with it except the vibrate feature. there are two option for 3 vibration features.
Vibrate only
Vibrate then ring - vibrate first then stop. later the ringtone start to play
vibrate and ring - vibrate constantly until the ringtone stop to play
Is there any way to configure this vibrate setting so that it can vibrate like nokia phone rather than vibrate constantly?
One more thing i realise that my jade ring quite slow at the beginning although i already set the loudest volume. How to fix this?
thanks
check the valert thread
Too bad the current version of Valert disables the volume hardware buttons.... Would've loved to use it on my Jade...
I posted some links in the valert thread. Its possible to edit the registry to customize the vibration pattern.
^^But that won't let you make a vibration pattern while the ringtone is playing.. This is a problem if you're using long mp3 tracks as your ringtone...
I like how Nokia phones vibrate while ringing or like how Valert works... It doesn't vibrate continually while the ringtone is playing...
For me too-disable my hardware volume buttons when making the phonecall.I remove application.
Simple as that. Why i can't switch off vibration without switching ring volume?
How can i achieve that? Any app or hint to do this?
Why?
When i'm in office i don't want vibration to be on coz of annoying sound, but i want to hear when someone calls me.
Thanks.
I seem to be having an issue with the notifications and ringtones on my new Moto X Pure. Ringtones are 'ascending' and start out very quiet. and some notifications seem to be the same way but the tones are so short that all that ends up happening is that you don't hear them at all. It also doesn't seem to affect every app - I don't hear anything when I get a Facebook message, but emails and texts seem fine. Is there a setting somewhere that I'm missing?
Most apps have their own sound settings. Check the apps that are giving you trouble and see if there is a setting for sending ringtones.

I checked everywhere to see if you can turn this off and failed. It's something that's very annoying to me
This is a serious issue ....I am considering returning the phone because I cannot even hear my notifications ...spoke to motorola and of course they said they are not aware of any issue
.....if they would acknowledge the problem and address it in a software update I wouldn't care but since they don't even acknowledge the issue ....

That app seems to work for everything but Facebook which is fine for me. Give it a try. Hopefully once some custom roms start dropping this issue is fixed
Someone else and I are having similar issues with low volume: http://www.reddit.com/r/motox/comments/3maaw1/_/
Edit: Others experiencing the same issue on Moto's forum: https://forums.motorola.com/posts/36193b0f11

I have had ring tone volume going down to zero and not being able to adjust it 3 times now. I think I just figured out that this happens when moto assist puts it into "driving" mode and I'm wearing my bluetooth headset. Only way to fix it is to reboot the phone. So annoying!

I don't mind the ringtone volume as much as the low notification volume. It sucks. I constantly miss messages and email. The buzz sound you get from vibrate is louder than the darn notification.

This seems to be a good workaround. To get it to work check "New normalization method." I was also getting an annoying notification in the status bar that the app was waiting for a call. I was able to get rid of this by going into settings-apps-disable increasing ring and then deselecting "show notification." App still works.
Now onto trying to reduce the vibration intensity or pattern of this phone. If anyone knows how to do that, please advise. Also wish this phone had separate volume control for the ringtones and notifications.

I don't know how well this will be in the long run. But I disabled moto voice and restarted. The ascending issue is gone all around. . I will keep you posted and see if this isn't just a fluke

Im not sure if this is related but Ive noticed the ringtones are coming out on both top and bottom speakers but notification tones are onlu coming out from the bottom speaker are you having the same issue?

The workaround I'm using is to add ~2 seconds silence to the initial portion of the MP3 file for my notification MP3s. This means that during this initial 2 seconds of an MP3, while the XT1575 volume ramps up, there is nothing playing, then the actual sound plays at full volume. Works like a charm.
I use my own MP3s for notifications and ringtones. Used an old version of Goldwave to do this (and other useful things) to the MP3s, then loaded them on to phone.
If you're rooted this is the fix I through together thanks to the help of the moto x play thread. Check it out and make sure to thank the guy who created the original file

I had the same issue with every nexus 6 I had (3 of them, all returned). Motorola has something very wrong going on with the speaker hardware/config file.
For anyone who happened to install a custom ROM or the OTA Marshmallow update, do you still have this ascending ringtone issue? I cannot hear my notification sounds, but after installing the "Disable Increasing Ringtone" app, it seems to have helped for most notifications except for FB Chat Heads.
If your rooted, AICP http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=63842724 has the setting built in.

Found a fix for this if you are rooted. Worked great for me to fix this bug http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-style/general/mod-disable-ascending-ringtone-t3218683
Still not fixed? Motorola you useless twats.
Not even fixed after the 6.0.1 update (Moto X Style, reteu version). Why is it so hard to give us a toggle for this... As much as I like this phone, there are a few quirks that will make me never buy anything non-Nexus ever again, starting this fall.
Hi @ all.
I have problems with ringtone on off in 5.1.1 roms.
When I use vibration mode or mute for a time I can't switch
Back to ringtone on.
I can't move the fader to regulate the loudness.
It stucks on the left side and nothing happen.
I must reboot my phone to fix it.
Someone has an idea why?
I use ringtones from zedge app. Maybe there is the problem?
